Candace Dyar started photographing as a way to manage anxiety and depression, taking her Canon SLR out on hikes as a therapeutic outlet. That early connection to nature, combined with an art history background, gradually shaped a practice with a much bigger purpose. Based in Washington State, Candace now works at the intersection of wildlife photography and conservation advocacy, partnering with organisations like the World Wildlife Fund and Defenders of Wildlife to draw attention to threatened species and the ecological importance of apex predators. A wolf encounter in Yellowstone in October 2021 was a turning point that shifted her focus decisively toward wildlife. In this episode Candace talks about using images and captions to challenge misinformation about wolves, educating people on coexistence and the reality of living alongside predators, running workshops in wild places, and balancing the admin side of a photography business with actually getting out and shooting. Martin Helseth has always been drawn to the water. As a kid in Norway, he spent as much time beneath the surface as he did on it—free diving from a boat his father built, discovering a sense of calm and freedom below. Not long after, he found that same feeling in a rowing shell, first picking up the sport at age 10. Through persistence and a deep connection to the water, he rose through the Norwegian system to become a two-time Olympian, competing in both Tokyo and Paris. All the while, free diving remained a constant. In Norway's fjords and lakes, it became more than just an escape—it became a lens. What he saw below the surface was changing. Pollution and marine debris were becoming impossible to ignore. What started as solo cleanups in his spare time grew into something much bigger. Martin began mobilizing his local community, then the rowing world, turning his personal mission into a collective effort. In 2024, he was named a World Rowing Healthy Waters Alliance Ambassador. Now, in partnership with organizations like World Rowing, and the World Wildlife Fund, along with rowing clubs around the globe, Martin is helping lead a movement—one that connects athletes, waterways, and stewardship, and pushes the sport toward a more active role in protecting the environments it depends on. A podcast to answer all your questions about productivity, time management, self-development, and goal planning. My name is Carl Pullein, and I am your host of this show.  Throughout our lives, there is usually some goal or purpose we are attempting to achieve.  When at school, it's to pass our exams so we can go on to university or to get a job in a specific field. When we begin our careers, we are often driven to work hard to get promoted. Or at least that's how the theory goes.  The trouble is, if you step back from these “goals”, they seem to be pushed onto us by our parents, society and our peers.  It's rare for anyone to step away from this blueprinted path and set their own course. In the past, people who did not follow the well-worn path would have been politely described as “eccentric”, or impolitely “weird”.  I remember back in 2002, when I quit law and flew to Korea to teach English, my friends and colleagues could not understand why I would give up a career in law to teach English.  Yet, my heart was not in law. It always felt wrong. If I am being honest, I believe my motivation for studying law and working in a law firm was purely about status and about living a life that other people wanted me to live. Coming to Korea turned out to be the best thing I've ever done. I discovered my purpose: to help other people, and I found the medium through which I could do that: teaching.  It's what I still do today. I help people through teaching.  In our working lives, it's easy to have a purpose. It might not be our true purpose, but climbing the promotion ladder does seem to give us a purpose. How high up the ladder can we climb?  Yet, chasing the next promotion is never going to be a life's purpose. It might be a career goal, but ultimately, it will end at some point, and that ending point will unlikely be within your control.  I'm reminded of one of England's top lawyers, Lord Jonathan Sumption.  Lord Sumption was a celebrated barrister, rising to the top of the legal profession when he became a judge at the Supreme Court.  The mandatory retirement age for Supreme Court judges in England is 70, so when Lord Sumption turned 70, he retired from the legal profession.  However, his real passion was never for law. That was his career, and he was very good at it. His real passion was for medieval history, and today Lord Sumption is regarded as one of the leading historians of that era. He continues to write books and talk on the subject.  Tony Robbins talks about the six human needs in his brilliant Unleash the Power Within seminar. These human needs are:  The need for: Certainty - the certainty that you can avoid pain and gain pleasure, and the need for uncertainty and variety - the need for the unknown and new stimuli.  The need for significance - the feeling of being unique, important, special or needed and then the need for connection and love - a strong feeling of closeness to someone or something  And then there are the two areas that when we are young, we often dismiss, largely because we are so caught up in our own lives. They are the need to contribute and the need to grow.  When I first did the associated exercise related to these needs, I did just that. My top two were the need for certainty and the need for significance. (Typical for someone who creates content, funnily enough) I dismissed the needs to contribute and grow. Yet now, I see that these two needs are the source of our purpose.  All living beings need to grow. When we stop growing, we start dying. Just look at what happens to muscles when we stop using them. They weaken and whither. That's your body doing its job. It wants to conserve energy, and if you're not using an energy-expensive muscle, it will weaken the muscle.  That is just another reason it's important to make sure you do your resistance training every day. (Or at least three to four times a week). Yet growth is not just about the physical; it's also about the mental. The need to be continuously learning.  This is where our hobbies come in. Hobbies such as learning languages, geology, car mechanics, medieval history, and problem-solving keep our brains active. Our brains continue to grow as we learn.  A good reason not to try to figure everything out by using customer service or Chat GPT. Use your problem-solving skills to figure it out.  And the contribution is where we get our sense of fulfilment. Passing on our knowledge and what we have learned from our life experiences by teaching others.  When I worked in law, it always felt like it was just about billable time. How much could we charge the client? I tried to convince myself that I was helping people, but my bosses were not interested in that part. They just wanted to know how much I had billed that week.  When I began teaching English to adults in Korea, that changed. It did not matter how many students I had in my classes. I got paid the same. Now I felt I was contributing to someone's success.  Something changed in me, too. I felt excited to go to work every morning. I'd never felt that before, and it took me a while to figure out what that was. It was because each day I got the chance to help people improve their lives and career prospects, and it was a joy to see their progress.  If you were to build a retirement around growth and contribution, you would soon find that your purpose becomes clear.  For most of us, our purpose is unlikely to be as grand as bringing world peace or finding a solution to global warming. For some, maybe, but for most of us, not likely.  Purpose is often much smaller than that. It could be to raise and support your children so they can navigate through their worlds with positivity and pragmatism. For others, it could be, like me, to teach as many people as I can to be better organised and less stressed.  The late Prince Philip, who died five years ago, told his daughter, Princess Anne, that to find your purpose, you should find something that you feel you can make an impact on.  For Prince Philip, that meant conserving and protecting the planet, as well as helping young people be active through his Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.  He was talking about conservation and climate change in the 1950s, well before it became fashionable to do so. He was a founding member of the World Wildlife Fund, wrote multiple books on the subject, and was active in climate science. For Princess Anne, it has been, and remains so today, saving children in war-torn environments, animal welfare and hearing dogs for the deaf.  Which then leads us to the second problem here.  When we retire, it can be very tempting to fill our calendars with all sorts of work in the name of good causes. Don't do that.  You are not going to be able to have an impact on everything. Instead, you want to look at what you are genuinely interested in.  Prince Philip gave a 19-year-old Princess Anne some sage advice when she asked him what she should get involved in. He told her that she would be inundated with offers to be a patron of this or that. He advised her that she could never be a patron of everything, so she should choose those in which she had a genuine interest.  Ron Dennis, the former owner of the McLaren Formula 1 team, retired from Formula 1 in 2017 and dedicated his retirement to helping young people achieve their aspirations and to become role models for future generations.  His experience of working with people like Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost and Kimi Räikkönen gave him the knowledge and experience to help young sportsmen and women achieve their dreams.  There's likely to be something that you have an interest in. If that can be coupled with your knowledge and experience, then you have something you can contribute, and that, in turn, will give you a sense of purpose.  In many ways, the challenge is not about finding purpose; it is narrowing it down to the one or two things that we feel we can have an impact on.  The same challenge we faced when in the corporate world is still there in retirement: overcommitting. This is why it's important not to rush into things when you transition. Explore, think, test, and experience by all means, but set a deadline for refining your activities into something more manageable.  One of the wonderful things about the world we live in today is that we can share our ideas and experiences by writing a blog, recording a podcast, or even starting a YouTube channel.  The great thing about these avenues is that they need consistency to grow. A weekly podcast does far better than a podcast that rarely adds episodes. This helps you to bring structure into your weeks. You can set aside a day or two each week for your content production.  As your blog, podcast, or YouTube channel grows, that in itself gives you a sense of purpose, particularly if it is contributing to making an impact on something you have an interest in.  So, if you are struggling to find your purpose, first, don't overthink it. It's rarely about solving the world's problems; it's more about helping people to better themselves, and as someone with the experience you have, you are in a very strong position to be able to help.  Make sure it is something you are interested in, something you enjoy reading about and something you like talking to other people about. If you wake up excited about doing something related to this, then you've found your purpose.  One of the most inspiring stories I heard about was about two Canadian gentlemen who loved skiing. Each year, they would go skiing together with their families.  When they retired, they both decided to take their ski instructor certification and become ski instructors. And that is what they do today. They are both qualified ski instructors, and each winter they spend their days teaching people to ski.  This keeps them fit and strong and brings an incredible social experience.  I hope this has helped. If you have any questions around your retirement or impending retirement, let me know. I'm happy to answer your questions in this podcast.  And don't forget, I have recently launched a brand new programme called Designing the Perfect Retirement. This programme sets out a blueprint for you to create a retirement you find fulfilling and inspiring, and that keeps you fit, healthy and active.  In addition, this programme gives you access to a community where you can share experiences and advice. I will put the details for this programme in the show notes.  It just remains for me now to wish all a very, very productive week.

This special crossover episode between "After the Fact" and the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF's) "Nature Breaking" podcast dives into the topic of nature finance. And with an estimated $1.2 trillion needed annually by 2030 to halt biodiversity loss, this funding needs to be secured quickly and on a large scale. Experts from Pew and WWF share how this funding is raised to support innovative, local conservation projects around the world, from not only traditional philanthropic sources but private sector and investor funding as well.

Every wildfire starts small. The problem is that by the time most are detected, minutes have already passed and, under increasingly common conditions driven by a warming climate, a fire can grow beyond any tanker truck's capacity to contain. The gap between ignition and coordinated response currently averages around 40 minutes. Firefighters have long understood the math: a spoonful of water in the first second, a bucket in the first minute, a truckload in the first hour. The XPRIZE Wildfire competition is an $11 million global effort to prove that autonomous systems, including AI-enabled drones, ground-based sensor networks, and space-based detection platforms, can collapse that window to 10 minutes. Our guest is Andrea Santy, who leads the program. She came to XPRIZE after nearly two decades at the World Wildlife Fund, where she watched conservation projects fall to wildfire. That experience sharpened her understanding of the stakes: wildfires are now the leading driver of deforestation globally, having surpassed agriculture. In places like the Amazon, the Congo Basin, and parts of tropical East Asia, a single fire can eliminate species found nowhere else on Earth. In cities, it can destroy entire neighborhoods in hours. On January 7, 2025, Santa Ana winds drove flames through Pacific Palisades and Altadena, destroying more than 16,000 structures, killing 30 people, displacing 180,000 residents, and generating between $76 billion and $130 billion in total economic losses from a single event. Annual U.S. wildfire costs, when healthcare, lost productivity, ecosystem damage, and rebuilding are included, are estimated between $394 billion and $893 billion. XPRIZE announced the five autonomous wildfire response finalists just over a year after the LA fires: Anduril, deploying its Lattice AI platform with autonomous fire sentry towers and Ghost X drones; Dryad, running solar-powered mesh sensor networks that detect fires at the smoldering stage; Fire Swarm Solutions, coordinating heavy-lift drone swarms that can deliver 100 gallons of water autonomously; Data Blanket, building rapidly deployable drone swarms for real-time perimeter mapping and suppression; and Wildfire Quest, a team of high school students from Valley Christian High School in San Jose who used multi-sensor triangulation to locate fires that can't be seen from monitoring positions, solving the literal over-the-hill problem that any fire detection system faces. The conversation covers what the finalists demonstrated during semi-final trials at 40-mile-per-hour winds, why the decoy fire requirement — distinguishing a wildfire from a barbecue, a pile burn, or a flapping tarp — is one of the hardest AI classification problems in the competition, and how autonomous systems would integrate with existing incident command structures. Santy is direct about where progress is lagging: the testing is ahead of the regulations. Autonomous drones operating beyond visual line of sight and coordinating with manned aircraft in active fire emergencies require FAA frameworks that don't yet exist at the necessary scale. There's also the deeper ecological tension — the growing scientific consensus that many fire-adapted landscapes need more fire, not less, and that indigenous fire stewardship practices developed over millennia have a place alongside autonomous suppression technology. One XPRIZE finalist is already working with an indigenous community in Canada to pilot their heavy-lift drone system in a remote area where that community is exploring how the technology fits their land management approach. Meanwhile, the Trump administration's FY 2026 budget proposes eliminating Forest Service state fire capacity grants, cutting vegetation and watershed management programs by 30%, and zeroing out $300 million in forest research funding — maintaining suppression spending while gutting the prevention and detection infrastructure that could reduce what there is to suppress. The engineering, Santy says, has arrived. Whether the institutions can move at the speed the crisis demands is the harder question. You can learn more about XPRIZE Wildfire and follow the finalists at xprize.org/competitions/wildfire.

Jim shares the rigorous, year-long journey of community engagement and democratic voting that led to the company's launch, highlighting how the venture isn't just about electricity and natural gas—it's about creating "own-source revenue" to fund local housing and accessible jobs for an aging membership. Whether you are interested in the mechanics of the Alberta energy market or the inspiring path toward community self-sufficiency, this conversation illuminates how local leadership and cultural pride can fuel a thriving, competitive business. Thank you for listening to the Leaders, Innovators and Big Ideas podcast where we showcase fascinating people who are Leaders, Innovators, and have Big Ideas! Host: Peter Beaudoin manages strategy and partnerships for an innovative alliance of energy companies committed to reducing environmental impacts through collaborative R&D efforts. Peter worked for more than 20 years in Asia building and investing in a variety of businesses. His most recent role outside of Canada was with the World Wildlife Fund, where he was the Chief Executive Officer of WWF China, based in Beijing. Prior to that, Peter lived in Hong Kong for 15 years working in the technology industry. Guest: Jim Flett is the Managing Director of Sturgeon River Utilities, bringing over 15 years of experience in banking and finance to his leadership role. He has years of experience reflecting expertise in financial strategy and governance. In addition to his executive responsibilities, Jim serves on various boards, contributing strategic insight and strong oversight across multiple organizations. Instead of endless tariffs, bailouts, and hedge funds swallowing family farms, most U.S. farmland is locked into soybeans for animal feed, corn for ethanol, and rice for export—while fruits and vegetables are shipped in from across the country or overseas. Even the World Wildlife Fund points to the obvious solution: shift just a small share of land into food crops for domestic consumption and farm revenue could surge by billions. But entrenched interests, commodity speculation, government policy, and Big Ag's grip on the system keep things frozen in place. The result? Farmers struggle, food prices soar, and one of the most fertile countries on Earth imports what it should be growing locally.

Corvus Belli, the Spanish miniature wargame publisher, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026, marking a significant milestone in the industry. Founded in 2001 by three friends, the company began with 15mm scale historical miniatures before launching the 28mm scale ‘Warcrow’ fantasy models in 2002. Their breakthrough came with the 2005 release of the sci-fi skirmish wargame Infinity, which evolved from a modified Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Infinity is notable for its unique rules, including an “active” and “reactive” turn system that keeps both players engaged, a flexible order system, and the use of D20s instead of D6s. The game has since grown through several editions, expansions, and community support like the official Infinity Army web application. Corvus Belli also launched the Infinity Tournament System in 2010 to support competitive play and has continuously pushed the metaplot forward, including the recent Endsong expansion and the new Next Wave faction released in 2025. The company’s expansion has included collaborations like the Infinity tabletop RPG with Modiphius in 2015 and major board games such as Aristeia (2017), Infinity Defiance (2019), and TAG Raid (2021). Atlas Games co-owner John Nephew announced he is removing all of their products from Amazon’s Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) program due to what he describes as “lousy business partner” practices, including bait and switch promotions and inexplicable storage/shipping fees. To minimize waste and ensure the inventory goes to gamers instead of being destroyed, he is offering to send individual FBA items—including board games, card games like Gloom, the Over the Edge RPG, and accessories—for free to any gamer in the USA. Interested parties can email him their mailing address by the end of January 2026. The Dungeons & Dragons crossover with Fortnite, which has resulted in a new series of five fan-made, D&D-themed islands created by community creators Chartis and Teravision Games. These islands range from a PvP arena and co-op boss fight to the largest co-op roguelike in Fortnite history, featuring D&D locations like the Yawning Portal and legendary characters like Klauth the dragon. The article writer expresses skepticism about the marketing value of the crossover, questioning its appeal to non-D&D fans and suggesting the focus should be on this year’s actual D&D rulebook release schedule instead of guest appearances in video games. Lex Ecclesiastica, a free, unofficial Warhammer 40k narrative TTRPG that centers on the all-female Adepta Sororitas, or Sisters of Battle. The game uses the Resistance Toolbox system, which is “built around struggle,” with players juggling core stats like Body, Faith, Authority, Fortune, and Corruption. The game is praised for giving depth to the Sisters of Battle faction, blending the over-the-top violence of the 40k setting with the somber storytelling required for these dogmatic warriors, and it is available for free download on itch.io. There is also a pipeline of talent for NGOs and spook agencies that runs through the Peace Corps, making it hidden in plain sight. The other fake do-gooder organization with questionable partnerships and sketchy financing is Greenpeace, with its ties to John Podesta, George Soros, Bill Gates, and Planned Parenthood. It appears that they intend to preserve the planet through depopulation, which would explain their financial support from known eugenics operations and anti-humanity NGOs, such as the Tides Foundation, Open Philanthropy, and the World Wildlife Fund.—Watch the video version on one of the Macroaggressions Channels:Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/Macroaggressions YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@MacroaggressionsPodcast—MACRO & Charlie Robinson LinksHypocrazy Audiobook: https://amzn.to/4aogwmsThe Octopus of Global Control Audiobook: https://amzn.to/3xu0rMmWebsite: www.Macroaggressions.io Merch Store: https://macroaggressions.dashery.com/ Link Tree: https://linktr.ee/macroaggressionspodcast—Activist Post FamilyActivist Post: www.ActivistPost.com Natural Blaze: www.NaturalBlaze.com —Support Our SponsorsAnarchapulco: https://anarchapulco.com/ | Promo Code: MACROC60 Power: https://go.shopc60.com/PBGRT/KMKS9/ | Promo Code: MACROChemical Free Body: https://chemicalfreebody.com/macro/ | Promo Code: MACROWise Wolf Gold & Silver: https://macroaggressions.gold/ | (800) 426-1836LegalShield: www.DontGetPushedAround.com EMP Shield: www.EMPShield.com | Promo Code: MACROGround Luxe Grounding Mats: https://groundluxe.com/MACRO Christian Yordanov's Health Program: www.LiveLongerFormula.com/macro Above Phone: https://abovephone.com/macro/Van Man: https://vanman.shop/?ref=MACRO | Promo Code: MACROThe Dollar Vigilante: https://dollarvigilante.spiffy.co/a/O3wCWenlXN/4471 Nesa's Hemp: www.NesasHemp.com | Promo Code: MACROAugason Farms: https://augasonfarms.com/MACRO —

A changing climate with hotter and drier weather is a challenge for people, but also for lakes, reservoirs and rivers. The Rio Grande river, which runs from Colorado into Mexico, crossing several U.S. states, continues to shrink and to run dry in places where it used to flow. Most of the water from the river is used to grow crops like alfalfa and hay to feed livestock, Other crops are cotton and pecans; some water is used for power generation and some for municipal water use. But the river can no longer provide enough water for all those uses. The World Wildlife Fund has made it their mission to revitalize the river. It's a daunting task, one faced by my guest, Enrique Prunes, Rio Grande Manager and Freshwater Lead Specialist at World Wildlife Fund US.

But that also means they've fallen victim to pop culture narratives.Since the release of "Jaws" in 1975, sharks – especially great white sharks – have endured a reputation as aggressive and violent. But however we're thinking about them on land, they're struggling to survive at sea.According to the World Wildlife Fund, nearly a third of all shark and ray species are threatened with extinction – with overfishing and harmful fishing practices at the top of the list of hazards. We get into all things sharks, from the so-called "Jaws-effect," to all the things we get wrong about this fascinating fish.Want to support 1A? Ashley Blaker's Hyperfixations

"Americans have a long history of taking British things and ballsing them up. They took football and added helmets and cheerleaders; they took ice lollies and called them popsicles; and they took James Corden and then sent him back here."Among Ashley's more unusual hyperfixations is a life-long love of professional wrestling. This special interest was first developed on Saturday afternoons at his grandparents' house watching Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks and Kendo Nagasaki. It continued through the 1980s when Britain was invaded by Hulk Hogan and his colleagues from the then WWF (before they lost a court case to the World Wildlife Fund), and Ashley was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the legendary Summerslam show at Wembley Stadium in 1992, which so many British wrestlers have cited as the day that cemented their love of the grunt and grapple business. This undeniably extraordinary spectacle is sometimes called ‘sports entertainment' - for many people it is neither! When Ashley Blaker was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, one of the most significant aspects of his diagnosis is his propensity for hyperfixation in special interests, which he now realises has entirely shaped his past and which he uses to mine comedy for this new series. It's no exaggeration to say Ashley's life has been driven by obsessions. He has variously been a schoolboy with a love of Star Wars and Doctor Who, a wannabe comedian who performed on the London comedy circuit at 16, a trivia nerd who appeared on University Challenge, a history PhD candidate at Cambridge, a BBC producer of hit comedy shows including Little Britain, a fanatical football fan who saw Liverpool play across England and Europe, a strictly Orthodox Jew who went to synagogue three times a day for over ten years, a father of six, and latterly, a heavily tattooed renegade in hiding from his former community. In this series, Ashley takes a comedic look at each of his obsessions in turn, merging personal memoir with a delve into subjects which have yet to be covered in stand-up comedy shows. The result is a series which, while based on the broader topic of neurodiversity, covers it with the lightest of touches and is focused more on Ashley's individual hyperfixations, lifting the lid on many of the different worlds he's inhabited.Written and performed by Ashley Blaker co-starring Rosie Holt and Kieran HodgsonScript Editor: Steve Hall Recording engineers: Jerry Peal and Jon Calver Producer: Steve Doherty A Giddy Goat production for BBC Radio 4

Healthy rivers are essential for thriving communities, and smart, nature-based solutions are proving crucial to turning things around in a changing climate. In this episode, Derek Vollmer, Director of Waterscapes for the World Wildlife Fund, shares how their program uses innovative, place-based strategies to restore rivers and build resilience worldwide. From the US-Mexico border, solutions for the Rio Grande include removing invasive trees and optimizing dam operations to restore flow and support wildlife. In Pakistan, the groundbreaking "Recharge Pakistan" project uses ecosystem restoration, like forests and wetlands, to reduce both flood and drought risks. Further, lessons from the Netherlands' "Room for the River" program show how giving rivers space to ebb and flow can protect communities from climate impacts, providing powerful insights for the U.S.This is a conversation from the Reservoir Center in Washington, D.C.waterloop is a nonprofit news outlet.

As we approach the tenth anniversary of the date that Cecil the lion was lured out of the protected area and wounded with an arrow, so that an American recreational big-game trophy hunter could then track the wounded majestic 13-year-old African lion (who lived in Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe) and murder him on July 1st, 2015. Animal activist and best selling author, Eduardo Goncalves, continues his fight to ban trophy hunting with appearances, interviews and three new books. There is just to much disturbing information collected by best selling author, Eduardo Goncalves, to cover in just one book. So, the publisher decided to create a trophy hunters trilogy of books.  So, the publisher repackaged the material into a trilogy - “Twenty Elephants in Seventy-Five Minutes," “Shoot One Lion – Get One Free” & “Mainlining on Heroin.” Eduardo Gonçalves has been a speech-writer for British politicians, run a government department in the Middle East, and helped save the world's most endangered big cat – the Iberian Lynx – from extinction. A former journalist with the BBC, he exposed a major nuclear accident cover-up and secret human radiation experiments. He's a conservationist who has advised the World Wildlife Fund, and has worked with homelessness charities on both sides of the Atlantic. He recently led a major undercover operation to break up Europe's largest dogfighting crime syndicate, and rescued a tiger cub that was about to be shot by a trophy hunter in an enclosure. Despite a serious illness which has led him to become disabled, he has set up an international campaign to stop trophy hunting of wildlife. His work is supported by some of the world's biggest stars as well as leading conservationists and African politicians.     Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

7Sees is a researcher and host of “This Week on the Web” on Ickonic. He lays out the technocratic plan for enslavement that was gaining popularity during the early 1930s, in part due to the influence of Elon Musk's grandfather. The Technocracy movement was a century ahead of its time, as Aldous Huxley described in the 1932 classic Brave New World. His brother Julian headed the British Eugenics Society and founded the World Wildlife Fund and UNESCO. This new batch of technocrats were incubated at Stanford, Harvard, and In-Q-Tel, financed on Sand Hill Road, then groomed at Bilderberg, Aspen Institute, and the CFR. Their coordinated pivot to AI, and the companies involved in artificial intelligence, is terrifying. On this Live Greatly podcast episode, in honor of Earth Day, Kristel Bauer sits down with Erin Simon, Vice President and Head of Plastic Waste and Business of the World Wildlife Fund.  Kristel and Erin discuss actionable ways that you can make an impact around conservation, how to navigate overwhelm in the conservation space and lots more!  Tune in now! Key Takeaways From This Episode: WWF's Give an Hour for Earth campaign WWF's No plastic in nature initiative How individuals can reduce plastic use in their homes and everyday life to improve their health and the health of the planet General information about plastic pollution – how big is the problem, what are some of the solutions How to handle overwhelm when it comes to conservation  About Erin Simon: Erin's mandate is to drive positive change across industries in packaging and material sustainability—an area of action that is critical to conserving the world's natural resources, and one that is key to WWF's mission of protecting people and the planet. Since joining WWF in 2011, Erin has played an integral role in growing the partnerships, programs, and science that have made WWF a leader in solving one of most pressing environmental issues of our time: plastic pollution. In addition to helping spearhead WWF's No Plastic in Nature initiative, Erin has led the development of programs to transform the way the world—and specifically business—fights the plastic waste crisis. In 2019, her team launched ReSource: Plastic, the corporate action hub to tackle the plastic pollution crisis, and since then has built out a robust portfolio of efforts and partnerships to help companies take meaningful, ambitious steps towards circularity. Erin is one of WWF's leading experts on plastics and packaging and a key member of the WWF delegation advocating for a global plastics treaty, a first-ever international binding agreement on plastic pollution. Before WWF, Erin was a packaging engineer at HP for 10 years, responsible for the design and implementation of laser jet printer and media packaging. Erin lives in Richmond, Virginia, with her husband, daughter, and dog. When she's not working, you can find her kayaking with her family. Lee Zeldin, the new administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, says he's eliminating environmental justice jobs that were largely focused on addressing pollution in low-income and minority communities. Grist's Lylla Younes explains the impact of these cuts. Then, more than 400 Fish and Wildlife Service workers — or about 5% of the agency's workforce — were let go last month. And more cuts to the agency could be on the horizon. Writer and photographer Mark Seth Lender shares concerns wildlife enthusiasts are feeling. And, the number of monarch butterflies overwintering this year in Mexico has nearly doubled, according to the annual census data from the World Wildlife Fund. Biologist Emma Pelton talks about this encouraging sign for the monarch population, as it continues to rebound from dangerously low levels this century.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

What can we do about land power? It's the most important question and my guest today is Mike Albertus. Mike is a professor of political science at the University of Chicago. He's the author of the new book, Land Power. Who has it? Who doesn't? And how that determines the fate of societies. In the book, Mike examines how land became power, how it shapes power today still, and how who holds that power determines the fundamental social problems that societies grapple with. Mike studies how countries allocate opportunity and well-being among their citizens and the consequences this has for society, why some countries are democratic and others are not, and why some societies fall into civil conflict.-----------Have feedback or questions? "That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run." - Forrest Gump I'm extremely excited to welcome Rob Pope, the real life Forrest Gump, to this week's show! Over the last few years, Rob has taken on the EPIC challenge of recreating Forrest Gump's famous run. Over 15,000 miles across the United States 5 times, he tested the limits of his own endurance and experienced the U.S. to the absolute fullest. Over his year and a half adventure he experienced highs and lows, received major support from strangers along the way, and ran through some of the most iconic places in the country. The human connections he made, along with the places he explored were life changing. Completing the challenge was absolutely unprecedented. Today's episode is all about this INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE. Rob shares how one of his last conversations with his mother about "Doing one thing that makes a difference in this world" inspired this challenge. He also chats about the adventures he had along the way, along with the obstacles he had to overcome (including a torn quadricep..yikes!). We also talk a lot about one of my favorite subjects....Tom Hanks! Please check out Rob's website. He would love your help supporting two excellent charities- Peace Direct and World Wildlife Fund.
