While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been phenomenal, a gimpy Jerome Robinson has also shown flashes of his microwave-type potential. Hello, friends. Tonight we celebrate a tradition like no other: Gamecock sports teams letting us down. It's as old as time itself, heck, it might be older than time, but that's what makes us who we are. This past week, the South Carolina Gamecocks suffered gut-wrenching setbacks in both men's and women's basketball while the baseball team endured a strange (but okay?) loss to a sattelite school for the University of North Carolina. Handwringing aside, this was a strange weekend to be a Carolina fan. So, what better way to cope with loss than to talk about it? Lets do that. This week, we go hard in the paint (like our basketball teams should've) and stop being nice guys and start getting real. We dive deep on the basketball program, and answer questions like, 'can PJ Dozier and Sindarius Thornwell co-exist on the court?' and 'why the Lady Gamecocks leading ladies might be holding them back'. Of course, we go wildly off-course and discuss some random things like we always do, but we bring it home with the largest collection of your social media questions we've ever done. Hope you enjoy!
The GABA Cast celebrates (not really) the return of the OG's Sam and DC3, and we discuss a wide variety of topics that mostly revolve around Gamecock hoops, including: The case for Sindarius Thornwell as the SEC Player of the Year. How the Gamecocks Men's team can make, or miss, the NCAA Tournament.ESPN's obsession with Kentucky basketball. How the Lady Gamecocks can take down the UConn Death Star. We delve into other topics, including the return of Gamecock Baseball (YAY BUNTS) and the implications of DC3's role in the GABA Cast curse. Let's just say we have fun and we hope y'all do the same. Enjoy!
Rantin Rhonda and Sam are here to bring you the 62nd episode of the GABACast. With both basketball programs doing big things, even Rhonda can't abstain from some great roundball discussion. In this episode, Rhonda and I talk about: Our feelings about the Georiga Dome closing down. Can Vince Wilfork eat an entire chicken thigh in one bite? The huge victory for the Lady Gamecocks tonight over Mississippi State. What to make of last week in Gamecock basketball.Rhonda gets Sam's thoughts on the progress we've made under Frank Martin.Sindarius Thornwell is really, really important. Why we won't be surprised if we crap the bed against Auburn and Missouri this week. Some pretty awesome Twitter questions. Thanks for listening?
The long-awaited return of Sindarius Thornwell saw the South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball team do something it hasn’t done since, like, before Crying Jordan: beat the University of Georgia in a basketball game. The team showcased their powerhouse defense, and held the Bulldogs’ to just 3 baskets from beyond the arc; it was exactly the way a Frank Martin team is designed to play. They followed that up with a come-from-behind victory in College Station against a very solid Texas A&M Aggies side that shot an eye-popping 67 percent from the floor in the first half. It’s safe to say that the Gamecocks are playing much better with the return of their stalwart guard, but just what does Thornwell’s presence mean for the team besides just being arguably the best player on the team? How does his return affect the Gamecocks still-alive NCAA Tournament hopes? What does the team need to do to realize those dreams? Have no fear, your favorite podcast is back to tackle all of the issues with takes just hot enough to avoid a bench clearing brawl. This week, besides our look into the men’s basketball team and their path through the SEC and into March, we take a look at the rumored-to-be newest member of the football coaching staff: Eric Wolford. You may remember him from his previous stint in Columbia, where he was the OLine coach and running game coordinator before leaving to be the head coach at Youngstown State. We speculate on his ability to recruit, develop, and manage talent, and pray that things cannot possibly get any worse and, therefore, can only get better from here. We also discuss how to prepare for a Clemson National Championship win over Alabama, define what’s needed for football to continue it’s return to success, and much much more. Sidenote: GET WELL SOON, A’JA WILSON. We hope to find out more about her ankle injury today.
