Show #106 honors Celtics great Bill Russell and we segue into a tribute to Bill Walton 2:54 ... World B says Bill was probably the most gifted big man to ever play the game. 4:31 ... Bill was an unbelievably good passer and was one of the four best passing bigs of all time along woth Nikola Jokic, Arvydas Sabonis, and Domantas Sabonis. 6:12 ... Bruce reflects on his friendship with Bill and his memory of having lunch one day with Bill and running into the late Manute Bol in West Hartford, Connecticut. 8:21 ... The Celtics finished off the Pacers on Monday night to complete the four game sweep and advance to the NBA Finals. 9:46 ... Bruce was very happy to see Jaylen Brown win the Larry Bird Award as Eastern Conference Finals MVP.  Brown's all around game was on full display in the series. 11:55 .... World B had kind words for Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, but feels Mazzulla is unfairly criticized and has done a great job. 13:29 ... Bruce points out that the Celtics' combined record is 76-20 (64-18 regular season and 12-2 in the playoffs).  And Bruce points out how silly the critics can be when they bash the Celtics for their so called easy path to the Finals. 17:45 ... Bruce points out how our show had a major influence on the trade that Milwaukee made for Damian Lillard and how it freed up Jrue Holiday to join the Celtics. 21:45 ... The guys preview Tuesday's game #4 between Dallas and Minnesota to see who will meet Boston in the Finals.  World B is exasperated at Minnesota's poor defense in the series against the Mavs.  He also takes the Wolves to task saying "it's not so much what Dallas did to take a 3-0 series lead, it's what Minnesota didn't do." 24:36 ... Anthony Edwards has put up decent numbers against the Mavs, but Karl-Anthony  Towns has been abysmal.  Towns has shot just 3-22 from three point range against the Mavericks. 28:00 ... Bruce cites Towns' numbers in previous rounds as evidence of his decline against Dallas. 28:54 ... Bruce leads a discussion of the Dallas backcourt and has praise for Luka Doncic's improved defense.  World B said Luka in the 4th quarter has been cold blooded. 35:16 .... World B feels that Boston's perimeter defense will be a huge factor against Luka and Kyrie Irving 45:55 ... Game #4 Predictions for Minnesota/Dallas 47:24 .... The guys react to the Cavaliers firing head coach JB Bickerstaff who appeared to get a raw deal after winning 99 games over the past two seasons. 50:33 ... Bruce feels that Cavs management made the Bickerstaff move in order to impress Donovan Mitchell. 51:26 ... Bruce jokes that Since ESPN announcer Doc Rivers took the Bucks job and ESPN announcer JJ Redick looks like the favorite to get the Lakers job, maybe ESPN's Doris Burke will be offered the Cavaliers job. 53:53 ... Pardon that Brent Musburger stinks forever, but he's necessary here for the clip of Greg Kite, 57 seconds in.The important part, really, is that the NBA on CBS theme from the 1980s slaps, and if not for John Tesh and Roundball Rock, it would be remembered a lot more fondly by a lot more people. This is, in fact, one of the things that Bill Simmons said in the early 2000s that actually holds up.Kite got rings with the 1984 and 1986 Celtics, and after 1987 only ever played in the playoffs again with the 1995 Pacers, and then only a few minutes against a Knicks team that had waived him earlier that season.By win shares, Kite was the 27th-most valuable player in the 1983 draft, which was headlined by Clyde Drexler (14-Portland) and four guys who were among some of the top guards in the business for years: Derek Harper (11-Dallas), Dale Ellis (9-Dallas), Byron Scott (4-San Diego), and Doc Rivers (31-Atlanta). Cool late-round picks that wouldn't get made today included Sedale Threatt (139-Philadelphia) and Manute Bol (97-San Diego). The top pick, Ralph Sampson, wound up 18th in win shares for his draft class, actually behind Steve Stipanovich, the No. 2 overall pick out of Missouri, whom I'd never heard of before right now. Stitpanovich was all-rookie in 1983-84 and his career comparables through five years are Joakim Noah, Tree Rollins, and Mychal Thompson. But he was forced to retire after those first five seasons with a degenerative knee condition.Wonder what those Pacers teams earlier in Reggie Miller's career might have been like had Stipanovich been able to stay healhty. Oh well, we'll never know, and Miller once went 3-for-18 in an elimination game at Madison Square Garden. This is a public episode.

Manute Bol was born on October 16th, 1962 in Turalei, Sudan, to Madute and Okwok Bol. The name Manute means “special blessing”, and he was part of the ethnic group, the Dinka, of the Nilotic people, who are among the tallest populations in the world. Bol's mother was 6'10”, and his father and sister were both 6'8”, but his grandfather stood at 7'10”! As a youth Manute played soccer, but abandoned it at age 10 because he was already too tall. Manute was born in a village where he couldn't measure himself, but learned in 1979 that he was 7'7”.In his later adolescence, Manute started playing basketball with teams in Wau and Khartoum, where he experienced racism from the northern Sudanese.

Big thank you to NBA legend and author Muggsy Bogues for coming on my show for an interview! Muggsy talked about his new book Muggsy: My Life from a Kid in the Projects to The Godfather Of Small Ball, getting his first basketball at the age of 3, and the rec center in Baltimore being the beginning of his basketball career. He discussed being shot at 5 years old and how that changed his mindset for when he was bullied for being short. He got into being apart of the greatest high school basketball team of all time with The Dunbar Poets from 1981 to 1983, setting ACC records at Wake Forest University, and winning a gold medal for the USA national team in the 1986 FIBA World Championship. Muggsy spoke about being drafted 12th overall in the 1987 draft to the Washington Bullets, his friendship with the late great Manute Bol, and his time with the Charlotte Hornets. He also talked about guarding Michael Jordan, being traded to the Warriors as well as seeing Latrell Sprewell choke coach P.J. Carlesimo, and being a leader for both Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady when he went to the Toronto Raptors. Muggsy gave his thoughts on the current state of the Hornets, LaMelo Ball, and if he would accept a head coaching job in the NBA. If you are a huge NBA fan, I highly recommend you go and read Muggsy's new book. You will not put it down once you start reading it. He is a true inspiration. Oregon Football has several elements of Spring practices that Duck fans are monitoring closely. One of those is the quarterback position, with a room that consists of Auburn transfer Bo Nix along with blue-chip prospects Ty Thompson and Jay Butterfield. At a recent Oregon Football practice, Ty Thompson took snaps with the first-team and Bo Nix was with the second-team offense. Ever since Nix transferred from Auburn up to Eugene back in December, the presumption has been he would be Oregon's starter come this Fall. Could there be a legitimate QB battle brewing leading up to the Oregon Football Spring Game on April 23rd? Much is still to be decided with a lot of time before a starter is likely to be named, but this recent development likely came as news to Duck fans everywhere. Especially to those who wanted to see Thompson play last season in favor of Anthony Brown. Oregon Basketball recently got a commitment from 2023 SF Marquise "Mookie" Cook, a 5-star recruit who ranks as one of the five best players in the Class of 2023. He is Dana Altman's first top-5 recruit since former 5-star center Bol Bol in the Class of 2018. Bol did not have the career Duck fans hoped for when Oregon landed the son of former NBA center Manute Bol, largely due to injury. Mookie Cook has the chance to pan out as a highly sought after recruit, and his commitment is a good sign for the state of Oregon Basketball off of a disappointing season in which they missed the NCAA Tournament. Men kriget i Bosnien tycks aldrig ta slut. Perfekt. Varje unpluggedspelning dokumenterades.

Perfekt. Varje unpluggedspelning dokumenterades. Sanjin Pejkovic, filmvetare

after this past weekend's rather anticlimactic exhibition bout between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., I convened this show's production staff to attempt to determine which was the most memorable celebrity boxing encounter of all-time. ?As you would expect, there were nominations for Joey Buttafucco vs. the late Joanie “Chyna” Lauer, Manute Bol vs. William “Refrigerator” Perry, and most controversially, S-Club 7's Hannah Spearrit vs. The Saturdays' Vanessa White, but after several recounts, the (narrow) winner was the 1996 clash betwixt skateboarding's Simon Woodstock and Suicidal Tendencies' Mike Muir. Though the fight itself is not considered a wonderful advertisement for the sport, it was commemorated with the custom skateboard shown above, recently auctioned by Southeby's for $17milllion US??DThis week's show does not feature interviews with Woodstock or Mike Muir because I would like to respect their privacy. There is however, some music.
