What happens when a lavish dinner party refuses to end? Mike is joined by filmmaker Miguel Llansó and critic Rob St. Mary to unpack the surreal social satire of Luis Buñuel's The Exterminating Angel (1962). In this sharp and strange masterwork, a group of upper-crust guests find themselves mysteriously unable to leave a post-opera gathering—days pass, civility erodes, and Buñuel's absurdist lens skewers class, ritual, and the thin veneer of order. From sheep in the parlor to the creeping dread of inaction, we discuss the film's dream logic, religious and political interpretations, and its place in Buñuel's legendary career. Whether you're trapped by tradition, status, or just polite company, The Exterminating Angel remains one of cinema's most biting allegories—and we're not letting you leave until we've talked it through.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.

The Spirit Blossom AU is unique in that it's actually a part of canon lore! Not totally, of course. Ashe isn't actually in Ionia or anything. Just in spirit! I mean, not really, but imagine her vibe?

As yoga teachers, we understand the profound impact trauma can have on the nervous system and how yoga can serve as a pathway to recovery. In this episode, I explore the powerful practice of trauma-sensitive yoga with the yoga instructor and author, Lara Land. Lara guides us through the differences between trauma-sensitive yoga and traditional yoga classes. We explore how this specialized approach creates a sanctuary for students who have experienced trauma by emphasizing safety, choice, and non-judgmental exploration. Our discussion covers the spectrum of trauma responses, acknowledging that each student's healing journey is unique. Lara illuminates how trauma-sensitive practices, such as gentle asana, breath work, and Tristana's non-physical limbs, can facilitate reconnection with the body and a sense of empowerment. Lara's insights remind us that healing is not merely about restoring balance but also about rediscovering one's inner strength. We celebrate transformative stories, like that of a veteran whose life was reshaped through this approach, exemplifying yoga's vast potential for growth. Lara's vision of making trauma-sensitive yoga accessible to communities affected by trauma is a powerful reminder of our role in creating inclusive and safe spaces for all students to begin their journey toward renewal and wholeness.Connect with Lara: www.laraland.uswww.landyoga.comFacebook . A deceptively simple domestic melodrama from Luis Buñuel
As we delve deeper into this yogic path, we appreciate the practice not just for physical prowess, but for emotional and spiritual resilience too. Whether we're striving to show up daily despite life's demands or digging deep to overcome generational trauma, commitment is key to our growth. But what about once we're on the mat? How easily do our thoughts wander with our curious senses? By exploring the foundational principles of Ashtanga yoga, such as Tristana—the integration of breath, movement, and focus—we learn to navigate our practice with greater awareness and intention, no matter how painful it is to resist temptations. Soon enough, our awareness blooms and yoga begins to encourage our truth to unfurl. By understanding these deeper layers, we transform past discomforts into present strengths. Discipline is no longer just about the practice; it becomes a dedication to ascend in all areas of our lives. Let's explore how to move beyond the discomfort of the mind, body, and senses, together. Reporter Ángela Vidal and her cameraman Pablo are covering the night shift in one of Barcelona's local fire stations for the television series While You're Sleeping. The firehouse receives a call about an old woman, Mrs. Izquierdo, who is trapped in her apartment. Ángela and Pablo accompany two of the firefighters, Álex and Manu, to the apartment building on Rambla de Catalunya. The old woman becomes aggressive and attacks one of the police officers, biting his neck. The crew find that the police and military have sealed off the building and trapped them inside. As the residents begin to panic, Álex, who remained upstairs with the old woman, is thrown over the staircase and critically injured. Mrs. Izquierdo kills a girl, and the remaining officer, Sergio, is forced to shoot her. Ángela and Pablo begin interviewing the residents. One of them is a sick little girl named Jennifer. Her mother Mari Carmen claims she has tonsillitis, and says her dog, Max, is at the vet. A health inspector in a hazmat suit arrives to help but the injured become extremely aggressive. The health inspector explains that they are infected with a virus similar to rabies; the disease was traced back to a dog in the building, and Ángela realizes it must be Max. Jennifer, now infected, bites her mother's face and flees. Sergio handcuffs Mari to the stairs. They find Jennifer but she bites Sergio. The infected break down the warehouse door that they were locked in and more of the residents are bitten and infected. Ángela, Pablo, and Manu, the remaining three survivors, set out to find a key that will allow them to escape the building via a large drain in the basement. Manu is bitten, forcing Ángela and Pablo to take refuge in the penthouse. They discover a tape recorder that explains that the penthouse owner, an agent of the Vatican, was charged with the task of isolating an enzyme carried by a young Portuguese girl named Tristana Medeiros, whose symptoms suggest a demonic possession. The enzyme mutated and became contagious. The agent sealed Tristana in the house to die. An infected boy damages Pablo's camera and he activates the night vision. A now-ghoulish Tristana emerges and searches the penthouse for food. Pablo is killed by Tristana. Seeing Tristana eating him, Ángela panics and drops the camera. She is then dragged into the darkness screaming.

His first contact with yoga was back in 1993 while exploring ways to find alternative forms of healing when Western medicine and physical therapy failed to heal a foot injury. As a spiritual seeker from his teens, he tried Hatha yoga. Right away, David felt the deep benefits of asana and meditation practice. Miraculously, yoga healed him physically, however, what blew David away the most, was the deep, sustaining well-being, that in turn, wasn't fleeting, like other sensory pursuits. Yoga gave a greater sense of clarity, calmness, and internal focus more than anything he had previously experienced. Here David's yoga journey began. His asana practice has been on and off through the years, but David always kept his seated meditation practice going the entire time. In early 2006, David took his first Ashtanga Yoga class. From that point on, he has not stopped. When David embarked on his first trip to Mysore, India, in February 2008, practicing with R. Sharath Jois, he delved deeper into the practice and fully committed himself to the method. Ever since then, David has been back to India every year to continue his studies and deepen his practice. In January 2011 he had the honour of receiving his Level 1 Authorization to teach from his teacher, R. Sharath Jois. In Sweden, David teaches and assists alongside his teacher, Laruga Glaser (Certified – Advanced B). When Laruga travels around the world to teach workshops and retreats. David is the one who runs and oversees the Mysore program at Yogayama Östermalm, in Stockholm. David regularly gets invitations to teach internationally and in other Swedish cities. He also teams up and teaches together with Laruga during her workshops and retreats all over the world. For David, it's a great honour to help hold a space for students from all walks of life, where they can explore who they are, and grow as human beings with the help of this dynamic practice. He invites all of you who feel inspired by this practice to walk this path with him.

At the heart of our yoga practice, we engage mindfully with asanas to awaken the whispers of our subconscious and dive into layers unseen. Yet what is central to the symphony of ashtanga is the tristana method – a trilogy of asana, breath, and gaze. While it may be a simple structure for the mind to understand, truly how many years does mastery take? Along with Tim, in this episode we explore how the interplay between conscious and subconscious worlds through tristana isn't a mere detail; it's the essence that anchors us in the rich traditions of yoga. We also meditate on the truth that with enough daily dedication, we can cultivate an inner sanctuary to welcome the merging of these worlds. To feel real peace. To bring ourselves home. How is your journey of anchoring in tristana going? Let's delve into the weaving together of the body, breath, and consciousness. Luis Bunuel began his career working with Salvador Dali on the film “Un Chien Andalou,” a masterpiece of the Surrealist movement. After working on another film with Dali, “L'Age d'Or,” and creating a documentary known today as “Las Hurdes” (Land Without Bread), he spent nearly two decades in the Mexican film industry before coming to Hollywood first, and then working with European producers to create masterwork after masterwork, from Viridiana to Belle du Jour to Tristana, The Exterminating Angel, TheDiscreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie through to The Phantom of Liberty and That Obscure Object of Desire. The retrospective contains all the later films plus several rarely seen films from his Mexican period. All photos courtesy Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive.
