5 stars! No notes! On this spooky episode, Stephanie and Sara explore the history, legends, and lore behind the Aux Sable Cemetery of Minooka, IL. Electronic phenomena, a little girl ghost, and a portal to hell are just some of the tales of this very haunted resting place, with grave stones dating back to the 1830s. We explore stories of hauntings and then read some Reddit "reviews" from cemetery visitors-- and they have some things to say! If you're into good, old-fashioned ghost stories, you'll love these. Forests are spooky. That is just a straight up fact. Here are three stories from those spooky places: North Carolina's Devil's Tramping Ground where nothing grows but fear; the Scottish highlands where you stop into a haunted bothy at your own risk; and the infamous tale of a frighteningly tenacious forest stalker who just wanted to know how to get to Bells Canyon.
Join us as we revisit, (and I re-produce) some of our earlier guest's episodes about hauntings and ghostly visits in the middle of the night! It's been fun going back over earlier episodes and polishing them for the season, as well as jumping into Fall, and October, and all things that go bump in the night! So please, enjoy this second offering in my Halloween extravaganza! (and don't forget to check under the bed and in the closet before you go to sleep at night!) BOO!
Welcome to Episode 244! In years past, the cooler temps and changing leaves were indicators that the year was winding down. This year, we also have THE PENGUIN BOOK OF GHOST STORIES: From Elizabeth Gaskell to Ambrose Bierce as a gauge. After this episode, we have only three more stories left to read – can you believe it? (We can guess the mixed responses to this question! haha.) We both enjoyed “The Moonlit Road” by Ambrose Bierce, which we discuss in this episode. Other books we've read and talk about include A HOUSE WITH GOOD BONES by T. Kingfisher, 107 DAYS by Kamala Harris, SUNNY SIDE UP by Katie Sturino, MARGARET FULLER: Collected Writings edited by Brigitte Bailey, Leslie Eckel, and Megan Marshall, and DEATH AT THE WHITE HART by Chris Chibnall. In Biblio Adventures, Emily recaps some of the bookish highlights from her vacation on Cape Cod, including BOOKSTORES (Provincetown Bookshop, Tim's Used Books, and Titcomb's Bookshop), LIBRARIES (Provincetown Public Library, the Sturgis Library, Eldridge Public Library and the South Chatham Library), and a bunch of LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES, including a charming mosaic #LFL. Chris spent a day working in the Barnard College Archives and then met a friend for a delicious dinner at Osteria Accademia, a book-lined restaurant on the Upper West Side. Afterwards, she headed to Grand Central to catch a train home to Connecticut and experienced the building's power outage, which made her worry about Dementors and rats. Last but not least, we are thrilled to welcome back OUR MYSTERY MAN, John Valeri for his 14th guest appearance. John joined us to discuss two ghost stories that are on our Ghost Stories Bingo card: “The Mask of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe and “The Canterville Ghost” by Oscar Wilde. He also drops a few reading recommendations because it wouldn't be a proper visit from Our Mystery Man without them. Happy Listening and Happy Reading! https://www.bookcougars.com/blog-1/2025/episode244

Ghost Investigation - The Seven Oaks House Museum Part 1 - Episode 217Welcome back! On this week's episode we start our tour of The Seven Oak House Museum, while we tag along with The Winnipeg Paranormal Group. Joined by our friend 'T' filling for Sher, we ventured into the store, which was the first building to house the family of Mary and John Inkster. Here is the History part - It is the oldest house in Winnipeg. The Seven Oaks House Museum is a civic museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The two-storey log dwelling is designated a Provincial Heritage Site, and a Winnipeg Landmark Heritage Structure. The store at Seven Oaks House Museum built in the early 1830's is one of the oldest surviving building in Manitoba along with the main house built from 1851 to 1853 and one of a handful of log buildings remaining that give a picture of life at Red River during the 1800s. The historic site is unusual in Winnipeg as the building still sits on its original foundations, and much of the surrounding homestead remains undeveloped. Our group leader was Jess, a Mortician by trade, is a physchic intuitive in training and one of the members of The Winnipeg Paranormal Group. She was kind enough to guide the group on the differences between Spirits and Entities and gave us a very interesting explanation on what she sensed was in the gardens. She as well explains the interesting connection between the Franscescan Monks, their parish, and squirels!Cool fact - the previous week, the store building was used during the filiming of the Little House on the Prairie reboot in Winnipeg.!Don't forget the mark your calendars for 'Spirits of Seven Oaks House' which is a candle lit theatrical Ghost tour of the oldest house in Winnipeg, presented with Special guest Matthew Komus! In this episode, you dive into volume one of Morgan's witchy storytelling series. She shares two deeply personal stories that highlight the power of trusting your intuition and navigating mystical experiences that challenge your understanding of magick. Both stories center around psychic encounters that left her shaken, reflective, and ultimately more grounded in her practice. The second describes a visceral experience involving three physical scratches and the intense spiritual aftermath she believes was caused by this psychic attachment. Through both stories, you're invited to reflect on your own discernment, boundaries, and the role of storytelling in processing your spiritual growth. For this week's Patreon bonus content, Morgan shares a photo of the three mysterious scratches she discusses in the episode, offering a deeper glimpse into this haunting story from her past. From there Jim shares some of the stories from the latest volume of the Campfire books, which leads us into to a wide-ranging conversation about the nature of paranormal experience, how that might relate to consciousness and the importance of storytelling in human cultures, and much more. This week on Tell Me A Ghost Story, we're opening the door just a little wider into the unknown.Host Michelle Newman invites you to sit back, turn down the lights, and listen closely—because these true ghost stories from real people might just follow you into your dreams. First, we travel to the infamous Whispers Estate in Indiana, where Cindy Ketron felt the presence of spirits, especially one named Rachel, a little girl she believes didn't stay behind. When the ghost stories follow you home… what then? Then, David from Kansas City shares a chilling brush with sleep paralysis—a terrifying liminal space where shadows gather and you're too scared to blink. The spirits that visited him didn't just lurk in the corner—they watched.Brittany from Utah tells us about her great-grandmother Ruth, a feisty spirit who wasn't quite ready to let go of her things. This spooky story unfolds across generations, proving that sometimes family ties bind even beyond the veil.Sydney in Nebraska grew up in a house that seemed to breathe on its own. Her haunting begins quietly, but you'll want to keep the lights on for this one.And Yamari from Pennsylvania brings us another paranormal encounter—shadow figures, spirit visitations, and that cold grip of sleep paralysis many know, but few talk about. Finally, Erica from San Diego shares a moment so strange, so vivid—it's hard to explain. A childhood memory of floating above a pit of fire, caught between worlds, and surrounded by something not quite of this one.Every tale in this episode is stitched with the eerie details that only those who've lived through it can offer. These are not just ghost stories—they're lived experiences, shared in whispers and late-night voicemails. If you've ever felt that chill crawl up your spine or wondered if the spirits can reach us through dreams, this one's for you.
