Ever wanted to see Worf's feet? Good news, shrimpers, because they are on display in “Ethics”! That's right! It's an all-new episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast, and it's coming at you right about . . . NOW!We've seen Worf battle all manner of Galaxy-class opponents--from Romulans to Ferengi to Borg--but in this episode, he meets his greatest enemy! BARRELS! Giant ass barrels filled with space stuff that fall off a shelf and crush his spine! Ouch! Good thing it's the 24th century, so they can wave a glow wand at him and fix him right up. Except they can't because no one has ever bothered to heal a sick Klingon. Seems those ridge-headed nuts prefer to commit ritual suicide rather than live with any limited mobility. Worf requests Riker's assistance in the ritual, putting their friendship to the ultimate test along with Riker's cultural sensitivity. The tension gets tenser when Dr. Toby Russel comes aboard eager to test her unproven treatments regardless of the risk to her patients, even if they're named Worf, and Bev ain't having it. All this and Alexander, the most adorable Klingon, just wants to see his dad! Will Worf ever walk again? Will Riker get over himself and honor his friend's request? Will Troi ever get paid for all these hours babysitting? Find out in this all-new episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast!Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

The term “Heimat,” referring to a local sense of home and belonging, has been the subject of much scholarly and popular debate following the fall of the Third Reich. Countering the persistent myth that Heimat was a taboo and unusable term immediately after 1945, Geographies of Renewal uncovers overlooked efforts in the aftermath of the Second World War to conceive of Heimat in more democratic, inclusive, and pro-European modes. It revises persistent misconceptions of Heimat as either tainted or as a largely reactionary idea, revealing some surprisingly early identifications between home and democracy. Jeremy DeWaal further traces the history of efforts to eliminate the concept, which first emerged during the Cold War crisis of the early 1960s, and reassesses why so many on the political left sought to re-engage with Heimat in the 1970s and 1980s. This revisionist history intervenes in larger contemporary debates, asking compelling questions surrounding the role of the local in democracy, the value of community, and the politics of place attachments. Guest: Jeremy DeWaal (he/him), is Lecturer in European History at the University of Exeter. His research focuses on German cultural history, spatial history, memory, and the history of emotions. DeWaal's work on Heimat and democracy has been supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Central European History Society, and the Berlin Programme at the Free University of Berlin. During this episode I discovered a new genre: 'domestic friendship bi- thriller'. This is literally one of my favorite genres. In a film starring Rob Lowe giving Lifetime movie villain and (my baby) James Spader acting for his life it's bound to have some heat.
Larry is joined by New York Times journalist and author Jonathan Mahler to discuss his newest book ‘The Gods of New York: Egotists, Idealists, Opportunists, and the Birth of the Modern City: 1986-1990', publishing on August 12th. They begin their conversation by detailing why Jonathan decided to write the book and shining a light on the rich history of New York city that precedes the period it covers. Here, they focus on the infamous Howard Beach, Queens incident with local police that led to the rise of Al Sharpton and a new age of public protesting (18:46). After the break, Larry and Jonathan take a look at the Wall St. crash of 87-88 and break down how the AIDS epidemic affected both the gay and art communities in New York at that time (31:52). They end the pod by talking about Rudy Guiliani's war against the mob, how the tabloids created Donald Trump, and filmmaker Spike Lee's love letter to the city, ‘Do The Right Thing' (38:43). On the 131st episode of Fear and Loathing in Cinema, a podcast that has spent more time in the ‘90s than the Clinton administration. Bryan, Dan, and Preston revisit a movie that asks the big, important questions: Can an Austrian killing machine convincingly teach preschool? Is it okay to introduce children to heroin dealers before phonics? And why, exactly, was Kindergarten Cop shown at every elementary school movie day like it was Charlotte's Web? Yes, they're talking about Kindergarten Cop (1990), the high-concept action comedy where Arnold Schwarzenegger, fresh from body-slamming aliens and blowing up jungles, trades his Uzi for juice boxes and circle time. The trio dive headfirst into the genre whiplash of Ivan Reitman's wildly successful, weirdly traumatic family action-comedy. This is a film, after all, that made over $200 million by pitching itself as “Daddy Day Care meets Scarface,” except with more feral children and less Eddie Murphy in makeup. The post Episode #131 – Kindergarten Cop (1990) first appeared on Boomstick Comics.

In this episode, we unpack the cult classic Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael (1990), a quirky, melancholic tale of identity, abandonment, and small-town myth-making. We follow the story of Dinky Bossetti, played by a young Winona Ryder, as she navigates her outsider status in anticipation of the return of the town's elusive hometown hero, Roxy Carmichael. Is Roxy a savior, a symbol, or just a ghost of what never was? We'll explore how the film blends teenage alienation with adult disillusionment, examine its portrayal of 90s-era femininity and longing, and ask whether Roxy Carmichael ever really needed to come home at all.Intro/Outro Music: "Phantom Fun" by Jonathan Boyle----Show E-Mail: cultcinemacircle@gmail.comFollow Cult Cinema Circle on Instagram, Bluesky, and Letterboxd Hosted on Acast. From Sam Raimi, the acclaimed directer of the Evil Dead Trilogy AND Spider-Man Trilogy comes this action thriller which FEELS as if it was based upon a comic book though was actually an original concept developed by Raimi when he was unable to land the rights for The Shadow back in the late '80's. Oscar-nominee Liam Neeson (Schindler's List, Taken) stars as Payton, a mild-mannered scientist trying to develop synthetic skin. Oscar-winner Frances McDormand (Fargo, Nomadland) plays his attorney girlfriend Julie who uncovers a real estate scam, and Emmy-winner Larry Drake (LA Law, Dr. Giggles) plays Durant, the mob enforcer who comes along with his goons to rough up Peyton for the evidence, brutalize him, and leave him for dead after dipping much of his body in acid leaving him burned all over....only Peyton isn't dead. And what results is a wild, crazy, and quotable revenge thriller which came out 35 years ago this summer and developed into a cult hit.WARNING: GRAPHIC VIOLENCE PORTRAYED VIA MOVIE CLIPSHost & Editor: Geoff GershonEditor: Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

In this episode of Drive-In Double Feature, Nathan and Ryan descend deep into the subterranean horrors of Shadowzone (1990), a lesser-known Full Moon sci-fi chiller with big ideas and gooey monsters. When a government experiment in sleep research goes terribly wrong, a gateway to another dimension opens—and what comes through is hungry. The hosts dig into the film's grimy production design, body horror vibes, and surprisingly thoughtful themes lurking beneath the slime. Is this Full Moon's answer to The Thing? Or just another creature feature with a killer practical effects budget? Tune in and find out.Tags:

Sean and Amanda start the show by briefly reacting to the box office performance of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps' and wondering whether or not superhero movies will ever return to the levels of the MCU golden days (1:39). Then, they bring in Andy Greenwald to discuss Netflix's newest animated success, ‘KPop Demon Hunters,' which they were initially skeptical of but eventually became charmed by, and they hypothesize what makes a big cultural hit in 2025 (4:46). Next, Sean and Amanda unpack the new slasher legacy sequel ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,' starring Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders, which they found incredibly condescending. They talk through why they found the script, performances, and kill sequences to be deeply unsuccessful (38:28). Finally, they reflect on what many consider to be the weakest decade of the horror genre and create their 1990s Horror Movie Canon (1:04:59).
