Nathan and Ryan descend into the underworld of Nightbreed (1990), Clive Barker's cult fantasy-horror epic about a hidden city of monsters and the humans who fear them. As the hosts unpack Barker's unique vision of good, evil, and everything monstrous in between, they dive into the film's troubled production, its striking creature designs, and how it found redemption through its devoted cult following and the fabled “Director's Cut.” Expect talk of ‘90s horror weirdness, misunderstood monsters, and why Nightbreed remains one of the most ambitious dark fantasies of its time.
On this edition of GFA Live, Peter and Keithie talk about WWF Saturday Night's Main Event from April 28, 1990! (and some other stuff, of course!)

This week we're exploring the often forgotten genre that is “Horror Movies for Children”. It was a short lived genre, and almost entirely killed by the advent of the PG-13 rating, but this week we dive into Gremlins (1984) and its wacky sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990). Gremlins is certainly responsible for traumatizing a generation of 80's children whose parents thought it was a silly movie about a little furry animal. Enjoy our review of the Gremlins franchise! It's October again, and you know what that means: spooky movies! Or at least, movies we think are going to be spooky until we actually watch them. This month, we checked out Roger Corman's "Frankenstein Unbound" from 1990, starring friends of the show William Hurt and Raul Julia. A bizarre mashup of Frankenstein, Back to the Future, Knight Rider, and Army of Darkness, and starring some of our favorite actors, we were shocked that we hadn't heard of this movie before. Until we saw it. Then it kinda made sense.Float along with the manatees as they discuss paradoxes, an embarrassingly outdated understanding of neurology, and what is and isn't an acceptable way to treat a car, and whether or not this should have been an episode of Star Trek. Don't worry, it's not actually all that scary (although definitely watch the movie in question first if you plan on showing it to any kids).
In this milestone episode we welcome William Bruce West as the NEW co-host of WIZARDS! Victoria Beckham’s new docu-series has landed, and while it teases bombshells, it mostly confirms what we thought we already knew. Amelia, Jessie and Holly dive into the nostalgia, the PR spin, and what we really learnt that made watching so uncomfortable.. Plus, Princess Kate Middleton has published an essay underlining our worst fears, that mobile phones are bad for us. But this isn't exactly new information, so why has it ruffled our feathers so much? Plus, comedian Julia Morris is calling for women-only seating on flights. Is it about safety, comfort—or something bigger? We open up the debate. And in the ‘things we didn’t expect to care about’ category: why not making your bed might actually be good for you, Jessie learns dust mites are not, in fact, akin to butterflies plus, the pelvic floor tip that’s weirdly simple—and weirdly effective. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's October, so that means it's time for our “Shocktober” series, where we cover movies that go bump in the night! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest Tony Sedani discuss Tom Savini's overlooked 1990 remake of the George Romero classic, Night of the Living Dead!A quick pace! Mild undead nudity! Shocking neck violence! A door you can punch through! A female lead who transitions from damsel in distress to legitimate action hero! Fantastic makeup effects and memorable zombie designs, including one that's twisted up like a pretzel! A great "one awful night in a single location" movie! No real explanation for the horrors that ensue! Social commentary on division and class war! Good ol' boys toying with zombies! Feelings of hopelessness! An impossible Candyman reference! A cast that includes the legendary Tony Todd, Laura Dern's stunt double from Jurassic Park, Patricia Tallman, the writer of The Gingerdead Man, William Butler, an unrecognizable Bill Moseley, and Tom Towles as the worst dude ever! While it may live in the shadow of the 1968 original, it's one of the better remakes and some people's preferred version of Night of the Living Dead! In addition, Alex talks about his favorite movies from Fantastic Fest 2025, including the Iko Uwais-produced martial arts extravaganza Ikatan Darah, Johannes Roberts' monkey-gone-mad creature feature Primate, Justin Long's unique take on corrupt cops in Los Angeles, Night Patrol, Steve Kostanki's Deathstalker, V/H/S/Halloween, the shark thriller Beast of War, and Curry Barker's oddly funny cautionary horror tale, Obsession! Finally, Tony shares his spoiler-free thoughts on The Long Walk, One Battle After Another, Good Boy, and The Smashing Machine, while Alex does the same for the Shudder original Night of the Reaper, and the realization of a plumber's worst nightmare, Scared Shitless! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris and Tim Gardiner, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from two filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. This week Ron and Peter fire in a bonus episode with a Craig R. Baxley double feature: 1990's Dolph Lundgren-staring I COME IN PEACE and 1991's badass action opus STONE COLD, which tried to turn former football wunderkind Brian Bosworth into a 1990's action hero; but quintessential '80s/'90s bad guys Lance Henriksen and William Forsythe - and Baxley's action, which does for the 1990's what COMMANDO did for the '80s - easily steal the film from "The Boz". Episode 216: The Sound of Protest in Morocco: Nass el Ghiwane and the Years of Lead (1970s-1990s) In her current project, Alessandra Ciucci is Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology at Columbia University in New York, posits that in order to understand the effectiveness of the songs of Nass el Ghiwane it is critical to examine their musicopoetic assemblage with its rich web of citations and intertextual references, and to acknowledge the force of the band's sound that Moroccans heard as “revolutionary” (thәuri) and with a “protest tone” (nәbra ḥtjajiya). She considers their songs as historical and emotional repositories of an era of profound transformation, as songs bearing witness to an era so marked by political violence and oppression that it came to be referred to as the “years of lead” and, at the same time, giving voice to collective hopes, dreams and aspirations. Ciucci is interested in the possibility that these songs offered in envisioning a different future in an oppressive reality and, just as importantly, the reasons for the musicians to choose the tools they used to capture the ears of a young generation. Alessandra Ciucci's research interests include: the music of Morocco, the Maghreb, the Mediterranean, sung poetry, popular music of the Arab World, music and migration and music and protest. Her first book, The Voice of the Rural: Music, Poetry and Masculinity among Migrant Moroccan Men in Umbria (Chicago University Press 2022), explores the significance and the endurance of a specific notion of the rural ('arubiya) among migrant Moroccan men in Italy. The Arabic translation of her writing on Moroccan professional female singer-dancers (shikhat) and on the musicopoetic genre ‘aiṭa, was published as a collection by the Edition La Croisée des Chemins in partnership with the Académie du Royaume du Maroc. She is currently at work on a new project tentatively titled Nass el Ghiwane: Popular Music and the Sound of Protest in Morocco (1970s-1990s), in which she delves into Nass el Ghiwane, the most influential group to forge a new musicopoetic language utilizing traditional Moroccan culture as a method of decolonization that also provided a sense of contemporary authenticity. Ciucci is the recipient of a number of grants and prizes, among which the Rome Prize in Modern Italian Studies (2018-19). This episode was recorded on July 14, 2023, at the Tangier American Legation Institute for Moroccan Studies (TALIM). Recorded and edited by: Abdelbaar Mounadi Idrissi, Outreach Director at the Tangier American Legation Institute for Moroccan Studies (TALIM).
Donate to the Go-Fund-Me for Gabe Bartalos here.---Just cause I've wrapped up the Universal Monsters series doesn't mean I'm quite yet done with the classics! Frank Henenlotter takes his goofy and gaudy turn with the FRANKENSTEIN story in his 1990 opus FRANKENHOOKER.This movie sees Jeffrey Franken (James Lorinz) as certifiably cuckoo-for-Cocoa-Puffs after the accidental death of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Shelley (Patty Mullen). Obsessed with using his self-taught medical and surgical knowledge to revive her, Jeffrey decides to harvest body parts from the sex workers of New York City, reinventing his girlfriend in his own sexually fantasized image.Henenlotter is a master of exploitation, crafting disturbed yet humorous stages from which I can't look away nor stifle the naughtiest giggle. However, unlike Elizabeth (and Jeffrey, post a few drill sessions into the back of his skull), this movie is not brainless. Slipped in-between some nasty bouts with explosive super-crack and a tunnel of lady legs lie some sharp commentaries about the exploitation of women's bodies in a patriarchal image and an advocacy for legalizing sex work in this country. All this while a re-animated Elizabeth goes on a hooking spree, accidentally coursing hundreds of thousands of watts of lightning through each trick she finds. God, it's rarely felt this fun to engage in such bad taste.---Follow, rate and review THE MOVIES wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow THE MOVIES on Instagram, Bluesky & Letterboxd

In it, Nico, a disillusioned private investigator, makes his living by photographing municipal employees suspected of insurance fraud. He's approaching thirty, wondering where his career is going, and realizing he has to grow up and start making active choices about his life. During one of his PI jobs, Nico witnesses a murder involving a corrupt police officer. While he has no desire to entangle himself in anything involving police corruption, he's left with no choice but to investigate and solve the case before more people end up dead, including himself.

For this week's ep of my podcast Apt. 5B we're chopping it up about the years of 1990-1993 and are they the "dead years" of the 90's? A lot of people say the 90's are the "golden era" of hip hop but it seems like they're always talking about 1994 and on. Also what about the groups that debuted from 90-93? A lot of them didn't survive past '93...why? And a lot of the dopest groups from the 80's couldn't survive past these years...why?Just another DOOOOOOOOOOOPE ep y'all and don't forget to subscribe to our Youtube channel and check us out wherever you listen to your fave podcasts at!@Kil889 www.willmakebeatsforfood.com
It's rare to have two 80s movies back to back that encapsulate the entirety of the 80s, but boy does this get there. Take the best of the Brat Pack, throw them in a shockingly historically accurate western, sprinkle with some truly wild accents, and you get a rootin' tootin' good time. They're not good movies, but they are enjoyable to watch. Round up, Regulators, as we watch Young Guns and Young Guns II on Have a Good Movie! This episode Brian and Nez take a trip out to Pennsylvania to hold up in a isolated farm house from a horde of ghouls in the 1990 Tom Savini film NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. For reasons unknown, the recently deceased are rising from the grave as flesh-hungry zombies. Fleeing from the undead horde, a small group of survivors, including Barbara (Patricia Tallman), Ben (Tony Todd) and Harry (Tom Towles), sequester themselves in a remote farmhouse. With the zombies outside the house multiplying, tensions flare, as the group argues over the best way to escape their increasingly dire situation before they are overrun completely.
