This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head into the post-apocalypse (?) of 1979's Max Max to celebrate the 45th anniversary of George Miller's classic. Miller's debut film, Mad Max is set in a dystopian Australia on the brink of societal collapse. Mel Gibson stars as Max Rockatansky, one of the few remaining police officers trying to maintain law and order. A sadistic motorcycle gang led by Toecutter (Hugh Keays-Byrne) becomes a thorn in Max's side when they first target his partner Goose (Steve Bisley) and then Max and his family. The guys talk about how things seem OK for a world on the brink of collapse, how Goose becomes the main character for a large section of the movie, if Max and his wife Jessie (Joanne Samuel) are bad parents, the memorable climax where Max finally gets Mad and more. You can watch Mad Max on Prime Video, Tubi, and PlutoTV. Next week we're talking about the 90s spin on Most Dangerous Game, Surviving the Game for its 30th anniversary. We want to hear your comments and feedback. Send them all to contact@everythingaction.com. Also, let us know your suggestions for movies for us to discuss. Also, be sure to subscribe, rate, and review us on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts & SpotifyCheck us out on Twitter (@evaction) Facebook (www.facebook.com/everything.action), and Instagram (@everything.action).
This week the boys draw flies as we take on the original ‘Mad Max' in our featured segment 'Films of 1979'. The boys start by griping about natural flavors and tell a great story that involves the boys filming with a drone that ends with a Gorilla Glue catastrophe and a ruined microwave. Then, we set the scene of what happened in 1979 by discussing other films released that year and calling out some world events before discussing Max! We've known Steve Bisley from TV and movies and even he had a battle with depression. Here he discusses something he's doing about helping other blokes.
One of his earliest roles and one of the most enduring, Jim Goose from Mad Max, and here Steve Bisley talks about why it might be so.
So, we come to the end of another calendar year, wow, thank you for all the support and listening to us each week as we look at topics we feel deserve more attention. Now this episode we are doing a year in review and discuss what some of our favourites were, what we felt were some of the highlights and what was just downright funny. So strap in as we look back on a year full of robots, space travel, recycling, and the energetic joy of Katie Bouman, and that is just the start. We also go for a ride looking at the movies and tv series that have made us laugh, cry, scream, and sit in awe throughout the year. We discuss the controversy of crazy violence and insanity in movies such as Rambo – Last Blood. Yep some one has claimed it is… Nope you will need to listen in to know what is happening. Also we look at the year in games and take stock of what has happened. We laugh at some of it, get annoyed at some, and shake our heads in bewilderment at others. We recap what has been some of the most exciting and stand out moments for us this year in terms of topics. We also include some special shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events for the end of the year. So as the year draws to a close and the dawn of a new one creeps over the horizon we once more ask you to take care of yourselves, look out for each other, and stay hydrated. 2019 in Science - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_in_science2019 in Movies, TV & Anime - https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/biggest-movie-news-2019/- https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/best-movies-2019/- https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/best-tv-2019/2019 in Gaming - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_in_video_gamingOther topics discussed Kirigami Robots- https://www.inverse.com/article/61662-self-folding-kirigami-robotsBoston Dynamics- https://www.bostondynamics.com/New Horizons (interplanetary space probe that was launched as a part of NASA's New Frontiers program.)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_HorizonsSpaceX Dragon (reusable cargo spacecraft developed by SpaceX, an American private space transportation company.)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceX_DragonMaking breathable Oxygen using comets- https://www.caltech.edu/about/news/comet-inspires-chemistry-making-breathable-oxygen-marsE-Scooters are not green enough- https://phys.org/news/2019-08-e-scooters-green-options.htmlTextile Recycling - https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2019-06-15/textile-recycling-fashion-old-clothes-waste/11197904Black Hole image makes history- https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/chandra/news/black-hole-image-makes-history- https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-47873592Katie Bouman: American computer scientist working in the field of computer imagery. Iconic Aussie actor Steve Bisley played Jim Goose in the original Mad Max and is preparing to direct his debut feature. Hollywood correspondent David Del Valle talks about the art of the DVD commentary, Orson Welles, Luana Anders, Curtis Harrington and more!
Strap yourself in and prepare yourself for a thrilling ride as the boys sit down for the first time after their vacation to discuss MAD MAX! Directed by George Miller and written by George Miller and James McCausland, MAD MAX is set “a few years from now” and shows society as we known it on the down swing. Main Force Police, or MFP, is patrolling the roads from rougians, ragamuffins and crazed motorcycle gangs. Max Rockatansky is the MFP’s top officer. MFP finds themselves going after a violent, sadistic motorcycle gang lead by a charismatic psycho known only as the Toecutter. He leads his group from town to town and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. They’re put on Max’s radar after his partner Jim Goose is burned alive by one of their underlings but it becomes a tale of revenge after Max’s wife and son are killed. With the law no longer on his side, rage in his heart and a super-charged V8 Interceptor on his side, Max vows to chase down and kill the Toecutter and his gang. MAD MAX, upon release, wasn’t well received at first. A lot of critics didn’t get the film and panned it for it’s violence, incoherentness and the killing of children, but that’s not to say the film did bad. Variety praised George Miller’s directorial debut, it grossed $100 million worldwide, awarded three Australian Film Institute Awards and spawned three sequels (The Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Fury Road) Mad Max was the first major leading role for Australian actor Mel Gibson and also stars Joanne Samuel, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Geoff Parry and Steve Bisley.
