Today, we're headed deep off the beaten path to a forgotten island in Indonesia called Sumba. While it's twice as large as Bali and has only 700,000 inhabitants - Sumba has barely any tourism to the island. If it's starting to sound TOO remote, don't worry because we uncovered a luxury gem, or as our guest, James McBride, would call it - geographically opulent. James is the CEO of NIHI Sumba, a gorgeous property on a beautiful swath of beach. But the big draw here is the experiences - from world class surfing, to free diving, to spending special moments with the property's famous horses. James and I talk about the culture of the island which has persisted for thousands of years, the stunning landscape, and how NIHI's philosophy of organic growth has led to this one of a kind experience. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this interesting episode of Luxury Travel Insider. Learn more at www.luxtravelinsider.com Connect with me on Social: Instagram LinkedIn

Tänase saate külaline Margus Kalam jutustab erinevatest Aasia festivalidest, kuhu on sattunud.

Inge De Lathauwer is the founder of Sumba Hospitality Foundation but everyone calls her "Ibu Inge" on the remote Indonesian island of Sumba. As a lifelong charity worker, she had previously witnessed the disastrous consequences of poorly planned charities. To better understand the dreams and aspirations of the Sumbanese people, Inge decided to spend more time listening. Not only to their stories of hardship and struggle but also to their hopes and ideas for the future. The idea was born of building a hotel school that would teach young Sumbanese people the hospitality skills they needed to contribute to the tourism development on the island. Sumba is one of the poorest regions in Indonesia. While tourism is gradually developing, Sumba Hospitality Foundation believes responsible tourism is the only way to protect this fragile island in a way local communities can benefit. To end the circle of poverty, young adults are encouraged to dream big and empower themselves through education, training, and work experience. Last but not least, Sumba Hospitality Foundation aims to raise environmental awareness with students, tourists, and local communities. Nantikan obrolan bagian berikutnya! - Follow Podluck Podcast di Instagram | Subscribe channel Youtube Podluck Podcast Collective
Sumba is an island rich in wilderness and ethnographic treasures… making it a key trading ground for Chinese, Arab and Dutch merchants for its sandalwood and slave trades in centuries past. A tribal community steeped in shamans and ancestral worship and an only recently passed headhunting culture, the island still faces the ravages of malaria, malnutrition, and poor education. One man has made it his life's work to save this wild island he loves. Bringing up his young family on its remote isolated shores since 1988. Drawing in friends from all over the world to support his efforts and building the original Nihiwatu hotel in an effort to walk the fine line conservation capital in tourism can bring to primitive communities in need.Listen to the conversation with Sumba Foundation co-founder, Claude Graves, as we discuss the impact and needs facing this last Eden. An island fighting to preserve its incredible history whilst desperately needing to define its future. To view while you listen, click here.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/genycult/message

La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Reading delivered by Serafina Koordi (from the Church Santo Yohanes Bosco Jakarta, Indonesia) and meditation delivered by Father Victor Koten, SDB (from the Salesian Comunity of Sumba, NTT, Indonesia). Hebrews 10: 19-25; Rs Psalm 24: 1-2.3-4ab.5-6; Mark 4: 21-25. THE LIGHT OF THE LAMP Our meditation today has the theme: The Light of the Lamp. In the field of philosophical and theological studies, and particularly in the Catholic Church, Saint Thomas Aquinas is known as the lamp that illuminates our minds in the growth of our faith in Christ through the faculty of sound reason. Summa Theologiae is his major work on the Catholic theology. He stopped writing it after experiencing a vision of the Lord Jesus Christ. In that vision, Jesus Christ asked him in this way: "What do you want in return for your truly wonderful work?" Saint Thomas felt that everything he had written was nothing more than a haystack in comparison to what he was seeing in that vision, and with all humility he replied: "All I want is none other than You, my Lord." Saint Thomas teaches us that what we want from now on is the light or illumination of God's truth and goodness. The Lord Jesus used the symbol of the lamplight to teach us about the role of every believer as a lamp that has flameto enlighten the surroundings. The Holy Spirit keeps us always on fire to make our minds always open to the words spoken to us and to be always relevant to all the realities of life that we experience. The fire of the Holy Spirit also burns and encourages our hearts, especially when we meet troubles along our way of life. Everyone has a lamp and fire in him or her, because God intends to make everyone His partner. The followers of Christ take their responsibilities to participate in the mission of Jesus Christ. In this way, they are God's co-workers in this world. Generally, there are two functions of the lamp or fire in every person sent by God, namely to be the light on the way to God and to the light for life in the world. The path to God is not always smooth and easy. Jesus himself even says that the road to God is very narrow. However, the letter to the Hebrews keeps us in our faith about the hope that we all depend on. This hope is seen in the lamp in everyone of us and it is useful to enlighten and guide us in our way to God which is the way of Jesus Christ. The world with all its conditions often becomes dark because of all the weaknesses such as ignorance, discrimination, lies, violence and death. Our mission as followers of Christ requires us to be the lamps always burning that illuminates, guides, and enlightens this world. May our lamps are always burning to the end of our lives on earth. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus, fill us always with the light of Your Spirit so that we can become Your witnesses for our goodness and salvation in this world. Hail Mary full of grace ... In the name of the Father ... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/media-la-porta/message

Bali kennt wohl jeder Indonesien-Tourist. Sumba kennt kaum jemand.
Un.mute session about life at correctional facilities and second chances, real-time Kupang stories during the Covid-19 pandemic, and heartwarming stories about children in Kupang, Indonesia. I'm working with YAPPIKA-ActionAid, an Indonesia non-profit organization that supports #SekolahAman and Education in Indonesia particularly in the suburbs of Indonesia like Kupang and Sumba. Today, I invited Sri Indiyastutik, Head of ….. at YAPPIKA to talk about the campaign that we're working on to assist children in Kupang from having a proper hygiene kit and emergency health care program to buying grade 1-3 textbooks for their daily learning. This two issues become an urge especially during the pandemic, since online schooling is particularly difficult for the students in Kupang, most of whom do not have the necessary electronic devices and internet connection. This is why they must continue to do face-to-face teaching and learning instead of online schooling. We hope you will join us for this Friday (December, 11th) dinner virtual meet-up to learn more about YAPPIKA and #LoveForKupang campaign. To register: bit.ly/loveforkupang.
This week on TIFF Long Take, Rob sits down with Indonesian filmmaker Mouly Surya whose latest film, ‘Marlina: The Murderer in Four Acts’, was released earlier this year to great acclaim. The movie, which follows a Sumba woman taking revenge against the the men who have wronged her, is the director’s Indonesian spin on the Spaghetti Western genre. Surya discusses why Indonesia, the fourth largest country in the world, has such a small national cinema, her earliest inspirations as a filmmaker, and why her apathy towards the Western genre actually worked in her favour when making her latest film. She also discusses the film’s imaginative score, how getting international financing has changed her approach to filmmaking, and how growing up in an especially patriarchal society has impacted her career.
