Le but du Festival Marmite est de valoriser le patrimoine culinaire de l'Afrique togolais et subsaharien, la diversité et la richesse de produits locaux (prisés au Nord, souvent snobés au Sud... ), d'aider à la redécouverte des plats ancestraux reflets de l'histoire et des cultures des plus de 40 ethnies du Togo. Indian Boxer Gagan ‘The Pitbull' Sharma has already made his mark in the boxing circuit. Currently holding a professional record to 9-2 to his name, Gagan has been in the ring with both Indian and international opponents and is ranked second in the Middleweight rankings for India as per BoxRec. Over the course of his career, Gagan has fought in India, Thailand, Dubai, and United States among others, and is now on track to make his return to the ring. Hailing from Chandigarh, he started his boxing journey at the young age of five after being inspired by the legendary Mike Tyson. And when the young Gagan's father decided to take the internet in their home so that Gagan can watch Mike Tyson, his life changed forever. Boxing has been part of Gagan's life ever since. Now, he has made his acting debut as well as he played a role in the new boxing-based movie from Bollywood, Toofan which stars Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. We managed to catch up with Gagan for an exclusive interview to talk about his boxing journey, the troubles he had gone through early in his career, and how the role in Toofan came for him, his future plans, memories of his fight in the United States and much more. Alex is a fellow coach, a business owner, and an Ironman. He lives and breathes around Tulsa Oklahoma and has been in the fitness game for a few years, having started as a personal trainer, before taking over his current business and expanding to group fitness. He's also recently completed an Ironman Triathlon after a period of fasting from all food and water for about 30 days (only eating and drinking before sunrise and after sunset) Alex has a FUN demeanor about him at all times and genuinely cares for the people he works with, he's a solid coach and has a strong mindset which we dive into on this episode!
“I believe whatever's written in your destiny, that will happen… you can't do anything about it. You just have to keep going. Never give up.” My latest guest, Toofan Baz, was a chance encounter; I met him at his phone repair shop, in Putney West London when I popped by to get a new phone cover. We hit it off as soon as we began chatting, realising we are both Manchester United football fans. And talking further, I soon learned Toofan is not your average young man. He is one of the few, possibly only, Afghanistan to have signed an apprentice with English Premier League football (soccer) club - West Bromwich Albion, in Birmingham. More remarkable though, he was a refugee who undertook a perilous two year journey with his father to reach England's shores. However, close to turning pro, Toofan experienced a life-threatening head injury, which cut his career short. After several unsuccessful attempts to return to the game and trying to work for others, he decided to set up his own business - his phone repair shop, Elite Phone Store. We met at the shop on a Saturday afternoon in late March and Toofan shared with me his extraordinary story of survival and self-determination. The biggest news this week was that one of India’s leading director’s Rajkumar Hirani was accused of sexual harassment. Priya Prakash Varrier, whom you might recognize as the wink girl, is making her Hindi film debut with a suspense thriller called Sridevi Bungalow. Taapsee Pannu took to the media to express her displeasure at being unceremoniously dropped from the remake of the 1978 Sanjeev Kumar hit Pati Patni aur Woh. Uri is a hit. The film notched up impressive numbers at the box office but the makers also found a clever way of dissuading would be pirates. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar – the duo that gave us Bhaag Milkha Bhaag – are back together for Toofan, which Farhan described as the ‘heartfelt journey of a boxer.’ The teaser for Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly’s film Moothon dropped this week. The film has been written and directed by Geetu Mohandas while Anurag Kashyap has penned the Hindi dialogue. I can’t wait to see this.
