Happy Monday folks!!!! This week I'm joined by best pal and housemate Holly K to discuss watching the new Tracey Beaker on BBC, which is a far cry from the beloved OG series. We also discuss MEXIT aka the big news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially stepping back from the royal family. We discuss the absolute TRAVESTY that was the Golden Globe nominations which had a severe lack of diversity and a felt absence of Michaela's Coel's masterpiece 'I May Destroy You' which further highlights the institutional and covert racism within the industry. Ian was live and was joined by a wide variety of actors on this week's show. First up was Richard Wisker, a cast member of Tracy Beaker, who was in the studio to chat all about his career, from acting to music, and he was followed by George Blagden & Sebastian Roche, who are both cast members in Moliere's Tartuffe, which is currently mid-run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket until the end of July. Ian also ran a Twitter poll about Producer Nat's height, and Barry was on the receiving of a joke.
Jacqueline Wilson talks about her new book, Wave Me Goodbye, which is set at the beginning of WWII. Jacqueline will also talk about her life, how she has become one of the best-selling authors of recent years and about a host of her well known characters such as Hetty Feather and Tracy Beaker. In aid of Refugee Week, Battersea Cats & Dogs Home and Conway Hall Ethical Society
Sue Lawley's castaway this week is the Children's Laureate Jacqueline Wilson. She's won just about every award going for children's fiction and, in a career spanning more than 30 years, has written more than 80 books. Even as a child she knew she wanted to write but, after an inauspicious time at school, she reluctantly trained to be a secretary instead. Then she began to pitch ideas for a new teen magazine, Jackie, her stories were bought and she quickly became a staff writer. But she was 50 before she devised her most famous creation, Tracy Beaker. Tracy is a streetwise, feisty girl growing up in the competitive world of a children's home, who never loses the hope that one day her mum will come back for her. The book was a breakthrough for Jacqueline and its subsequent television adaptation introduced her to a mass audience. In 2002 she was awarded an OBE for services to literacy.
