Between Jan 2007-2015, he was an extension agent responsible for the 4-H youth development. In 2015 he took an agriculture teaching position in a county school in Murfreesboro. In 2018 he came to work full-time as the veterinary practice manager at Family Pet Health, a Fear Free Certified small animal veterinary hospital for dogs, cats, and exotics. He manages the business and focuses on practice culture, HR, finances, and strategic planning. In 2022 they started a podcast for pet parents for education. Right after vet school at Ross, Dr. Liao helped build thriving start-up Banfield hospitals and recently opened his own clinic in his hometown called, Sunshine Veterinary Care. During the pandemic, he started over-the-counter health solutions (Wellnergy Pet) to support pet parents who couldn't get in to see the veterinarian. This is a story of community, a circle of giving and finding ikigai in veterinary medicine. Ikigai is a Japanese term that means "a reason for being" or "a meaning for life". Send us a textDr. Jason Balara graduated from Tufts Vet School in 2004. Afterwards, he completed an internship and residency in surgery. Since 2008, while working in multiple large specialty hospitals, Jason has focused solely on surgery with a passion for complex orthopedic cases and teaching the veterinary community. He mentors interns and residents, trains technicians interested in specializing, and also helps increase surgical understanding in the practices he visits through his mobile surgery services, JMB Mobile Veterinary Surgery. He grew up working in construction and quickly started using real estate as an investment. He wanted to begin building generational wealth and started investing in single-family homes and while it was lucrative, it required a lot of work. So, he started leveraging a syndication model for investment. Sarah Boston is a board-certified veterinary surgeon specializing in surgical oncology. She has spent much of her veterinary career in academic settings as she loves teaching but also in private practice hospitals. She also co-founded a veterinary satirical news website called The Cageliner and is a podcaster of the Comedicine podcast where she interviews other medical professionals who have entered into comedy in some way. About our guest:Brian grew up with animals and later graduated from vet school at Cornell University in 2001. After 13 years as a Boston Veterinarian, he founded Boston Veterinary Clinic in 2012, placing an emphasis on trust, compassion, and top-level patient care. Boston Veterinary Clinic began as a concierge practice and grew to also include five veterinary clinics. Today, clinical practice is a small part of his job, but continues to own and help run all five clinics. Brian emphasizes mentorship and has joined multiple veterinary organizations and projects. Inspired by a t.v. show from America, he decided to move his family, life, and career to North America to enhance the quality of care of his patients. He later started his own practice as a solo doctor building it from the ground up. A couple of years ago, he sold that practice and is now preparing to sit for the AVBP (feline) board exam.
