For years, we've been taught that growing a business means creating more content, being more visible, and showing up on every platform imaginable. But what if the real opportunity for growth isn't more marketing at all? What if it's becoming more intentional about sales? In this episode, I'm diving deeper into the concept of Sales Maxxing and why I believe it's one of the most powerful shifts a service provider can make. The good news is that sales maxxing isn't about becoming pushy, sending awkward DMs, or turning into someone you don't recognise. It's about paying attention to the opportunities that already exist around you. Following up properly. Managing conversations with confidence. Understanding objections. Building relationships. Creating emotional safety. In short, it's about treating sales as a skill rather than something that happens by accident. We also talk about why so many business owners avoid sales in the first place. Marketing feels safer, more creative, more comfortable. Sales, on the other hand, can feel vulnerable. But when you learn how to hold the energy of a sales conversation, ask better questions, and guide people through decisions, everything starts to change. You stop waiting for sales to happen and start creating opportunities for them.If you've been pouring hours into content creation but still feel frustrated by your results, this episode will help you shift your focus. Not away from marketing entirely, but towards the activities that help people move from interest to commitment. Because growth rarely comes from doing more. Often, it comes from paying attention to the things that matter most. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeWhat sales maxxing looks like in practiceWhy marketing alone won't grow your businessHow to follow up without feeling awkward or pushyThe role emotional safety plays in sales conversationsHow to handle objections more confidentlyWhy active selling creates more opportunities than passive visibilityThe habits that help you build a consistent sales rhythmSalient Quote"People will buy from you when you create emotional safety."If today's episode has sparked something for you and you're curious about building a business that's easier to sell, easier to buy from, and a lot more enjoyable to run, come and join the guest list Parade On Tour, my new 90-day sales club, to get early access and special pricing before doors open to everyone.
Yup… we're doing it. In 2021 I sat across the table From Lewis Howes and his beautiful now-wife, Maria, listening to them gush over their then-new relationship… and how from Day One, therapy was a non-negotiable. Both individually and as a couple, they committed to working on themselves to give such a special union the best chance possible.I've never forgotten that.Fast forward to one year ago when I met Ryan, I immediately knew he was special. Our connection was special. And more than anything… it is a thing worth protecting and growing. Patterns are a real thing. And to be honest, I have more than a bag of destructive patterns…individually and relationally. I'm aware enough to know these days that if I don't continue to peel back the layers of healing, I will continue to repeat those patterns which have destroyed precious things historically. This podcast is about that. And it's about how over the last year Ryan and I have both committed to diving in head first.Relationships are mirrors… and sometimes those damn mirrors are hard to look into. But only by allowing the mirrors to be held up, can we become aware of our blind spots and ultimately (hopefully) evolve into two people who can hold a healthy relationship. :)This conversation touches on communication, self-awareness, people-pleasing, vulnerability, and the courage it takes to be fully seen by another person. We explore how our past experiences still shape the way we show up today and why healthy relationships often reveal the parts of ourselves that still need attention. In this episode, we discuss:Why personal growth doesn't stop when you find the right relationshipThe relationship patterns we never want to repeatHow unspoken expectations can create distance and resentmentThe challenge of balancing ambition, family, friendships, and connectionWhat vulnerability actually looks like in a healthy relationshipThe fears and insecurities that still show up for both of usChoosing curiosity over defensiveness during difficult conversationsHow growth often begins where comfort endsMore than anything, this episode is a reminder that the strongest relationships aren't built by two perfect people. They're built by two people willing to keep learning, keep communicating, and keep choosing each other through every season of growth. Here are the key moments from the episode:00:00 What Happens When Old Patterns Return04:03 Why We're Finally Talking About Long Distance07:07 Redefining What “Failed” Relationships Really Mean10:23 Can the Honeymoon Phase Actually Last Forever?13:19 When Your Partner Notices Every Tiny Shift16:11 The Fear of Being Fully Seen18:06 When People-Pleasing Starts Stealing Your Peace21:56 The Pattern Heidi Refuses to Repeat26:16 Why We Chose Therapy Before Things Broke29:21 The Truth About High Expectations in Love33:36 When Independence Makes Partnership Harder36:52 Becoming the Average of the Right People37:43 Losing Yourself to Be Loved40:10 What Comes Next After the Therapy Intensive41:47 Why Therapy Is a Tool, Not a Last Resort43:31 Awareness Is Where Real Change BeginsConnect with Heidi:Website: https://heidipowell.net/Email: podcast@heidipowell.netInstagram: @realheidipowellFacebook: Heidi PowellYouTube: @RealHeidiPowellTrain with Heidi on her Show Up App: https://www.showupfit.app/

Is your messaging making you memorable, or just visible? You could have the best content engine in your industry, be publishing consistently across multiple channels, and focusing on quality. But if it isn't memorable, none of it sticks.Core messaging and positioning is one of those things that sounds simple until you try to do it well. If you asked ten people in your organization what you are all about and why customers should choose to work with you, would they all broadly answer in the same way?In most organizations, the answer is no.That inconsistency shows up everywhere. In your content, on your website, in sales conversations, and in ways that are hard to trace back to the source. In part four of our seven-part B2B content strategy series, Amy Woods digs into what messaging is, what goes into a messaging framework, and how to know whether yours is working for you.Find out:What messaging is and why consistency is what makes it stickWhether you can have a B2B content strategy without clear messagingThe five components every B2B messaging framework needsHow to define your messaging and positioning through internal conversationsHow to use your messaging framework on a daily basis, including how to embed it into your AI toolsThe signals that tell you your messaging is workingWhen to review your messaging and how to update it without doing a hard pivotImportant links & mentions:Blog post about this episode: https://www.content10x.com/357Part one of the B2B content strategy series - What Is a B2B Content Strategy (And Why Does It Matter)?: https://www.content10x.com/354Part two of the B2B content strategy series — How Do You Align a B2B Content Strategy to Business Goals?: https://www.content10x.com/355Part three of the B2B content strategy series — How Does Competitor Analysis Fit Into Your B2B Content Strategy?: https://www.content10x.com/356B2B content strategy series on YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVwaHzx-z4d4Rcnrh2VsUN9d47rrdMypp&si=NjYvp1Ilo26KnIF3Amy on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/amywoods2/Content 10x website: https://www.content10x.com/Amy's book: www.content10x.com/book (Content 10x: More Content, Less Time, Maximum Results)Timestamps:01:57 Free B2B Content Operations Benchmark Assessment02:35 What is messaging?03:44 Why a great content strategy can't exist without clear messaging04:33 Who owns messaging?05:10 Core components of a messaging framework06:55 How to define messaging through internal conversations08:35 Where messaging shows up in real-world execution09:16 Opinionated content and category positioning10:38 Embedding messaging into AI tools and workflows11:09 How to know your messaging is working (or not working)13:08 Quantitative vs qualitative signals from customers and sales13:47 Revisiting and adjusting your messaging framework16:07 Recap and what's next17:55 Wrap upAbout the host:Amy Woods is the CEO and founder of Content 10x, a creative agency that provides specialist content strategy, creation and repurposing support to B2B organizations. She's also a best-selling author, hosts two content marketing podcasts (The Content 10x Podcast and B2B Content Strategist), and speaks on stages all over the world about the power of content marketing.Join thousands of business owners, content creators and marketers and get the latest content marketing tips and advice delivered straight to your inbox every week https://www.content10x.com/newsletter
Why do some business owners struggle to close conversations even when they have a strong offer?Glenn Milliet, communication and sales coach at Business Communication Expert, believes the problem often starts before the pitch even begins. Instead of leading with products or services, Glenn focuses on emotional connection, communication psychology, and asking better questions to understand what people actually want to change.Glenn shares communication techniques he uses to help business owners connect with prospects naturally without sounding pushy or overly sales-focused. He explains why “selling is the transfer of emotion,” asking “What would you change?” creates better conversations, and why people buy based on emotion instead of price alone. Glenn also breaks down subtle communication techniques, including tone of voice, body language, visual messaging, and the importance of creating a connection before consultation. This conversation explores how communication affects sales, leadership, networking, and client relationships. Glenn also explains why many businesses lose opportunities by focusing too heavily on pitching instead of understanding the emotional problem behind the purchase decision. What You'll LearnSwelling is the transfer of emotionThe question to avoid sales resistanceWhy do people buy based on emotion instead of priceThe communication mistakes that weaken client conversationsHow to build a connection before a consultationWhy writing things down increases trust with prospectsThe role tone of voice plays in authority and confidenceRight shoulder and left eye communication techniquesIf sales conversations feel forced or prospects seem disengaged before decisions are made, this episode breaks down communication techniques designed to improve trust, connection, and client conversations naturally.Learn more about Glenn Milliet and Business Communication Expert:https://businesscommunicationexpert.com/Book a free 30-minute strategy session with Glenn Milliet:https://businesscommunicationexpert.com/Call or text Glenn directly:(504) 250-3969Subscribe for more conversations on communication psychology, sales strategy, business growth, and marketing systems:https://www.youtube.com/@GarlicMarketingShow Resources:● Connect with Ian● Download a Tackle Box!● Supercharge your marketing and grow your business with video case stories today!● Subscribe to the YouTube Channel Hosted on Acast. A donor asked one of my clients, “How much do I have to give for you to stop asking?” Oof. That question hit me right in the chest. And honestly, I think a lot of fundraisers have either been asked something like this or secretly fear hearing it.In this episode, I break down exactly how I would respond and why I believe obligation has no place in major gifts fundraising. None. I'm not interested in convincing, pressuring, manipulating, or cornering someone into giving. That's not partnership. That's coercion with a tax receipt. We talk about the difference between fundraising from desperation versus fundraising from grounded leadership. Because donors can feel your energy. They can feel when you're white knuckling a goal, trying to force a gift, or needing their validation. And they can also feel when you genuinely mean it when you say: “You do not have to give.”The best donor relationships are built with people who are all in. People who want to be there. The people who don't just write checks, but become real partners in the mission. That kind of fundraising starts with you releasing pressure from yourself first. What you'll learn in this episodeHow Julie would respond when a donor says, “How much do I have to give for you to stop asking?”Why obligation-based fundraising damages donor relationshipsThe psychological reason donors are more likely to give when they feel fully free to chooseHow desperation and pressure show up in donor conversations, even when you think you're hiding itWhy emotional regulation matters in major gifts fundraisingThe difference between inviting someone into a mission versus convincing them to fund itHow to stop white knuckling individual donor relationshipsWhy real donor partnerships require alignment, not pressureWhat “walk away power” actually looks like in fundraising conversationsHow releasing donors from obligation helps attract more passionate, committed supportersAt the end of the day, major gifts fundraising is not about getting people to do things they do not want to do. It's about leading well enough, listening deeply enough, and believing strongly enough in your mission that the right people naturally lean in. The more grounded and pressure-free you become, the more authentic and sustainable your donor relationships will be.Want 15 leads in 5 minutes? The real estate market isn't just shaped by interest rates, inventory, and headlines. It's shaped by conversations. In this episode of The MindShare Podcast, David Greenspan breaks down how real estate agents influence buyer and seller behavior far more than they realize — through their content, messaging, tone, and everyday conversations.Because when agents constantly lead with:“Things are slow.”“People are waiting.”“Rates are high.”…that narrative spreads. And perception drives behavior. This episode explores the responsibility real estate professionals have when discussing the market, the danger of repeating negative headlines without context, and how agents can position themselves as trusted advisors instead of fear amplifiers.David also dives into:how narratives influence marketsthe “sheeple mentality” that drove past market cycleswhy trust and clarity matter more than hypehow to answer “How's the market?” without shutting down opportunitythe importance of guiding clients instead of pushing themIf you're a real estate agent, broker, mortgage professional, or anyone involved in helping people make major financial decisions — this episode is a must-listen.Because what you say matters.More than you think. What You'll LearnHow real estate agents influence market perceptionWhy negative market messaging can hurt your businessThe impact of fear-based narratives in real estateHow to answer “How's the market?” the right wayWhy perception drives buyer and seller behaviorThe role of trust in real estate conversationsHow to guide clients without hype or pressureThe importance of asking better questions before giving adviceHow your content strategy impacts lead generation and sales volumeWhy clarity creates confidence in uncertain markets[00:00] Introduction — the influence of narrative[03:00] How the news shapes public perception[06:00] Why real estate agents have the same powerThe Problem with Market Conversations[09:00] “Things are slow” and the damage it causes[12:00] How negative messaging impacts buyer behavior[15:00] Why perception drives actionThe “Sheeple” Effect[18:00] What happened during the market boom years[21:00] Fear of missing out and bad decision-making[24:00] How narratives spread through the industryYour Role as an Advisor[27:00] Why your job is to guide, not push[30:00] Building trust through clarity and understanding[33:00] Helping clients make informed decisionsHow to Answer “How's the Market?”[36:00] The wrong way agents respond[39:00] Questions every agent should ask first[42:00] Turning conversations into opportunitiesYour Messaging & Content Strategy[45:00] How your content reinforces hesitation[48:00] The connection between messaging and business growth[51:00] Why your influence matters more than statsClosing Thoughts[54:00] One conversation at a time[57:00] The responsibility that comes with influenceSponsorsThis episode is brought to you by:KiTS — Keep-in-Touch SystemsThe CRM and marketing platform designed for real estate professionals who want to stay top of mind and build consistent mindshare!REM — Real Estate MagazineCanada's premier publication for real estate professionals, industry news, and market insights.

New Atheism promised to dismantle Christianity, but many found its arguments lacking. Why are some skeptics now reconsidering faith? When the New Atheism movement exploded in the mid‑2000s, many believed it marked the beginning of a fully secular future. Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion and Christopher Hitchens' God Is Not Great dominated headlines, shaping cultural conversations and convincing many young adults that Christianity was intellectually bankrupt. But something unexpected happened. In this highlight from our conversation with Alister McGrath https://youtu.be/iZYPe5eUFCQ?si=X5JwWQIGDlIy7Nvn, host Jason Daye explores how the rise of New Atheism sparked curiosity rather than closure for many skeptics. As influential voices like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens shaped cultural conversations, their arguments also led some readers to take a deeper, more honest look at Christianity.Drawing from a collection of real stories, Alister shares how individuals who began by embracing New Atheism ultimately found its claims lacking depth and consistency. For many, that disappointment became the starting point for a deeper search that led them toward faith in Jesus. In this conversation, they discuss:Why New Atheism often overreached the evidence in its critiques of ChristianityHow tone and intellectual arrogance pushed some skeptics to reconsider faithWhy its worldview was not always examined with the same level of scrutinyHow disillusionment created space for genuine spiritual curiosityWhy personal stories of doubt and belief are powerful in ministry conversationsHow pastors can engage skeptics with empathy, clarity, and hopeThis episode is especially helpful for pastors, ministry leaders, and Christians who want to understand cultural skepticism, not simply to defend against it, but to recognize the surprising opportunities it creates for meaningful conversations about Jesus.Looking to dig more deeply into this topic and conversation? Send us Fan MailIt's 11:30 at night. The fight ended an hour ago. Your partner is asleep, or pretending to be, and you're lying there replaying everything. What they said. What you said. What you wish you hadn't said. What you wish they would've said. And then the thought shows up:“Maybe I'm the problem.”In this episode of Love Shack Live, Staci, Tom, and Brooke unpack one of the most painful emotional loops in relationships: guilt and shame. Most of us were never taught the difference between the two, so we collapse them into one heavy feeling that keeps us stuck, defensive, avoidant, or constantly beating ourselves up.But guilt is not the enemy. Guilt can be a messenger. It can show us where our behavior is out of alignment, where repair is needed, and where we have an opportunity to grow. Shame, on the other hand, turns the mistake into an identity. Instead of “I did something I don't feel good about,” it becomes “I am the problem.”This conversation explores how guilt shows up after conflict, why shame keeps couples trapped in emotional prisons, how guilt gets weaponized in relationships, and what to do when you can't stop replaying what happened. You'll walk away with a simple three-step framework to turn guilt into growth instead of self-punishment.In This Episode, We ExploreThe difference between guilt and shameWhy guilt often shows up after the emotional storm has passedHow guilt can become a tool for repair instead of self-punishmentWhy shame turns mistakes into identityWhat happens when couples never revisit conflict after the fightWhy “never go to bed angry” can sometimes make things worseHow emotional prisons form around topics couples can no longer discussWhy defensiveness blocks repairHow guilt can be weaponized through phrases like “if you really loved me…”The role of self-trust, self-awareness, and resilience in difficult conversationsHow to pause a fight without abandoning the relationshipA practical three-step process for working with guiltJoin Us in TuscanyIf this episode made you realize how long you've been carrying guilt, shame, or unresolved emotional weight, we want to invite you to join us at the Co-Mingle Retreat in Tuscany, September 1–6, 2026.Six days in a thousand-year-old castle. In this episode of Millions Were Made, Jessica Marx welcomes Natalie Hunter, transformational leadership coach and motivational speaker, for an in-depth conversation on what it truly means to lead in today's small-business and entrepreneurial landscape. As companies scale, many founders find themselves overwhelmed, overextended, and unintentionally becoming the bottleneck in their own organization. Despite strong vision and strategy, growth begins to stall when leadership patterns rooted in fear, avoidance, or over-control take hold.Natalie introduces a powerful lens for leadership transformation by examining energy, behavior, and awareness, and how these elements shape team performance, trust, and execution. A Note from James:I talked to Nelson Dellis, who's a six-time USA Memory Champion and has broken multiple Guinness World Records. His book, Everyday Genius, makes a pretty bold claim—that with some practice and the right techniques, you can dramatically improve how your brain works. We didn't just talk about memory. We got into everything: mental math, focus, cold reading, even some techniques that feel almost like magic. And I've done a lot of episodes on memory over the years—but Nelson showed me things I hadn't seen before. What stood out to me is this idea that “genius” isn't some fixed trait. It's a collection of skills you can build. Some of them are surprisingly simple once you understand how your brain actually works.I'm definitely going to spend more time practicing some of these techniques. There's a lot here that's immediately useful—and a lot that could take years to master.Episode Description:James sits down with world memory champion Nelson Dellis to break down what memory really is—and how far it can be pushed.Nelson explains how his grandmother's battle with Alzheimer's led him into the world of memory training, eventually becoming one of the best in the world. From memorizing thousands of digits to competing in global competitions, he shows that memory is not a fixed trait—it's a skill. The conversation goes beyond memory into focus, reading, learning, and even social intelligence. Nelson shares practical techniques for improving recall, reading faster without losing comprehension, and using visualization to retain more information. They also explore the edge cases—cold reading, intuition, and even experiments with “remote viewing”—where perception and cognition blur into something that feels almost supernatural. At its core, this episode is about expanding what you believe your brain is capable of.What You'll Learn:Why memory is a trainable skill—not something you're born withHow visualization and emotional context dramatically improve recallThe difference between “speed reading” and “focus reading”Simple techniques to retain more from books and conversationsHow cold reading works (and why it feels like magic)Why reviewing information—not cramming—is key to long-term memoryThe mental habits that create the appearance of “genius”How attention and focus are becoming rare—and valuable—skillsTimestamped Chapters:00:02:00 – Nelson's origin story: Alzheimer's and the motivation to master memory 00:02:16 – Why reading is like living thousands of lives 00:03:13 – Introducing Everyday Genius and the promise of trainable intelligence 00:04:33 – Memory palace techniques and applying them to real-world skills 00:05:13 – Can memory training help prevent Alzheimer's? 00:06:13 – Daily memory training routines and measurable progress 00:08:16 – From beginner to USA Memory Champion 00:10:00 – Memorizing 10,000 digits of pi: how it actually works 00:11:31 – Turning numbers into stories: the core of memory systems 00:14:28 – Why emotion and visualization drive memory 00:16:00 – Memory competition benchmarks and world-class performance 00:18:00 – What “genius” actually means—and how to simulate it 00:20:00 – The four pillars: memory, reading, focus, and learning 00:23:33 – Speed reading vs. focus reading (and why most people get it wrong) 00:25:12 – The finger-tracking technique to instantly read faster 00:27:16 – Why you don't need to read every word 00:30:17 – Why cramming fails (and how memory actually forms) 00:31:17 – Visualization while reading: turning text into a movie 00:34:00 – Active recall, note-taking, and long-term retention systems 00:37:16 – Cold reading and social intelligence 00:41:00 – Body language cues: attention, interest, and perception 00:43:00 – How mentalists create the illusion of mind reading 00:46:00 – Psychological “forcing” and influencing choices 00:51:00 – Remote viewing experiments and cognitive edge cases Additional ResourcesEveryday Genius: Hacks to Boost Your Memory, Focus, Problem Solving and Much MoreSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Why does business growth stall when the founder is doing all the sales? Many professionals build successful businesses but eventually hit a ceiling because they are responsible for every sales conversation. When the founder is the one closing deals, growth only happens when that person has time to sell.Sales strategist and CEO of Gain The Edge, Jim Padilla explains how founders can stop being the sales bottleneck by turning sales into a system. He shares the story of a functional medicine doctor whose practice was stuck because the founder handled most of the sales calls. After redesigning the sales process and moving key parts of the conversation to the team, the business was able to keep growing and scale toward a ten-million-dollar practice.Jim also explains why marketing alone cannot replace a sales system and why many experts overwhelm prospects with too much information. By simplifying the sales journey and building a clear process, businesses can continue to grow without relying on the founder to close every deal. What You'll Learn:Why founder-led sales become a bottleneck to growthWhy marketing cannot replace a sales systemHow identity-based selling improves communicationThe Revenue Map that creates a predictable sales processWhy experts overwhelm prospects during sales conversationsHow founders turn sales into a system the team can runConnect with Jim Padilla:Connect with Jim on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jimpadilla/Learn more about Jim's sales systems and resources:https://www.gaintheedgenow.com/Watch Jim's sales training videos on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@jimpadillawinningsales/videosResources:Connect with IanDownload a Tackle Box!Supercharge your marketing and grow your business with video case stories today!Subscribe to the YouTube Channel Hosted on Acast. Ever feel both happy and also … a little jealous when a friend shares good news?I experienced this dichotomy the other night, when my friend shared a success. I found myself performing enthusiasm while dealing with conflicted emotions; I wanted that kind of success, too. Did this make me a bad friend for feeling something other than pure joy for her?In this episode I talk about jealousy in friendship: how it happens, for all things big and small; the different ways it might manifest; and how acknowledging it can shift your friendship culture in a deep way.I think the goal is not to have no feelings. It's to let the feelings tell you something useful – and then bring that information back to your friendship. In this episode you'll hear about:Envy vs. jealousy in friendships, and processing each through self reflection and honest conversationsHow to avoid the distance and awkwardness that jealousy or envy can provoke in friendshipsThe internal struggle of performing enthusiasm while dealing with conflicting emotionsWhy envying somebody famous feels so different from envying a friendResources & LinksLike what you hear? To what degree do you feel capable of saying what you want to say in your life and in your relationships? In this episode, I'm revisiting one of my favorite episodes about the powerful combination of choice and voice. A revolution happens when women say what they want to say. When you can express how you really feel, it becomes easier to stand up for yourself and set expectations. Your relationships shift, your choices become clearer, and you stop performing and start actually living. Here's what I cover:One of the key skills I teach my clients: how to articulate themselves during difficult conversationsHow reconnecting to your own wants and needs is a process that takes timeWhy we are capable of updating the relationships in our lives to match our current wants and needsWhy authenticity removes the pressure to perform in order to feel acceptedHow learning to handle the stress of advocating for yourself leads to deeper integrity and lasting comfortFind Sara here:sarafisk.coachpages.sarafisk.coach/difficultconversationswww.instagram.com/sarafiskcoach/www.facebook.com/SaraFiskCoaching/www.tiktok.com/@sarafiskcoachwww.youtube.com/@sarafiskcoaching1333What happens inside the free Stop People Pleasing Facebook Community? In this episode, I sit down with life transition coach and death doula Jennifer Sanfilippo (www.jennifer-sanfilippo.com) to talk about something we ALL experience… but rarely talk about well.PLOT TWIST: grief isn't just about death! Because if we don't learn how to face the small griefs, the big ones hit even harder. We dive into:How to support someone who's grieving (without saying the wrong thing)Why grief absolutely belongs in workplace conversationsHow open discussions about death and loss actually build resilience and connectionJennifer also shares her powerful journey from the financial industry to becoming a life transition coach after the loss of her husband, and why creating space for grief is one of the bravest things we can do.Yes, we talk about death, and yes, we laugh because grief and joy can coexist. With Shannan Perciballi A Rosie On The House ReplayThis episode explores Arizona's local food community through a conversation with Shannon Perciballi, publisher and editor of Edible Phoenix. Shannon shares the story behind the magazine's evolution, her transition from a 35-year restaurant career into publishing, and why “slow media” matters. The discussion highlights mesquite as an underrated desert food, the importance of supporting local restaurants and farmers, and how storytelling strengthens resilient regional food systems.Shannan Perciballi is the publisher and editor of Edible Phoenix, a quarterly magazine celebrating Arizona's local food culture. A longtime Phoenix resident, she brings decades of experience in restaurants, wine, and hospitality to her work. Perciballi holds an English degree from Arizona State University and advanced wine certifications, and is deeply involved in supporting farmers, artisans, and regional food systems through storytelling, community partnerships, and advocacy for resilient local economies.Episode HighlightsShannon's leap from restaurant executive to magazine publisher“We are never going to scoop a story—we are the slow story.”Mesquite flour and its sweet, caramel-like flavor in sourdough breadThe power of seed swaps to spark food-growing conversationsHow summer restaurant slowdowns ripple through the local farm economyThe tactile experience of holding a seasonal, intentionally crafted magazineKey TopicsEdible PhoenixShannon PercevalPamela HamiltonSlow media and quarterly publishingArizona local food cultureMesquite as a desert superfoodLocal First ArizonaUptown Farmers MarketNorth Phoenix Baptist ChurchDesert Botanical GardenSeed swaps and community eventsSupporting independent restaurants and farmersCulinary education through Careers through Culinary Arts ProgramWhat is Edible Phoenix and why does it exist?Edible Phoenix is a quarterly magazine celebrating Arizona's local food culture. It tells the “slow stories” of farmers, ranchers, bakers, gardeners, and artisans whose work often goes unnoticed in mainstream media. Its mission is to strengthen community through storytelling and support resilient local economies. How did Shannon Perceval become the publisher? After a 35-year career in Arizona's restaurant and hospitality industry, Shannon purchased the magazine in 2023 when founder Pamela Hamilton retired. A longtime subscriber, she stepped into ownership to preserve and grow a publication she deeply valued. What makes “slow media” different?Unlike fast-breaking news, Edible Phoenix publishes quarterly and focuses on depth over speed. It explores how food is grown, prepared, and shared—embracing seasonality and intentional storytelling rather than headlines. Why is mesquite important to Arizona's food system?Mesquite trees produce sweet, protein-rich pods that can be milled into flour. Despite being abundant in the desert, they're often overlooked. Featuring local foragers and educators helps reintroduce this native, climate-adapted food into the regional diet. Why is supporting local restaurants and farmers critical?Local restaurants often source from local farms, creating a circular food economy. When independent restaurants struggle—especially during summer slowdowns—farmers and ranchers feel the impact. Spending locally keeps money circulating in the community and sustains family-owned businesses. How can consumers discover truly local food businesses?Visit farmers markets and ask vendors where their products are served. Farmers often supply independent restaurants directly. Markets like Uptown Farmers Market are hubs for discovering both producers and chefs committed to local sourcing. What role do community events play?Events like seed swaps, cookbook exchanges, and food festivals foster relationships and food literacy. Celebrations such as Devoured at Desert Botanical Garden and Local First Arizona's Fall Festival connect eaters directly with growers, chefs, and artisans.ResourcesEdible Phoenix — https://ediblephoenix.ediblecommunities.comSubscribe to the magazine — https://ediblephoenix.ediblecommunities.com/subscribeUptown Farmers Market — https://uptownmarketaz.comLocal First Arizona — https://localfirstaz.comVisit www.UrbanFarm.org/971 for the show notes and links on this episode!Need a little bit of advice or just a feedback on your design for your yard or garden? The Urban Farm Team is offering consults over the phone or zoom. Most people using AI for anxiety aren't following a protocol — they stumbled into it. Emma Klint, a writer and Substack creator, accidentally discovered she was doing exposure therapy by typing 'I don't know' over and over into an AI chat window. This is such an important question I get all the time….When do I tell people my pricing — and how much should I say?If you've ever felt awkward, pressured, or unsure when someone asks, “How much do you charge?”, you're not alone. So I decided to share a lot of my thoughts and strategies with you in this solo episode.I talk about why leading with price too soon can cost you wonderful clients, how your business model should guide your pricing strategy, and how to talk about money with more confidence and ease.I walk through how I personally handle pricing on the phone and by email, why I don't list my prices publicly, and how I invite clients into an experience instead of a simple transaction. I also share a simple way to think about pricing based on your income goals and the kind of clients you want to serve.Along the way, I share a favorite analogy, a mindset shift around value, and why stretching a client's budget — when done thoughtfully and with integrity — can actually help them love what they purchase even more. But true intimacy doesn't start with sex, it starts with the emotional safety to be vulnerable, honest, and seen.In this episode, we dive deep into how curiosity becomes a bridge across the intimacy gap… and how emotional safety transforms the hardest conversations into opportunities for closeness. In this episode, we cover:Why emotional safety is the #1 predictor of long-term relationship satisfactionHow curiosity helps couples reconnect when intimacy feels out of reachWhat it looks like to approach hard conversations with “soft eyes”How hormone changes, stress, and life transitions impact desire — and how to talk about itSelf-regulation vs. co-regulation: what each partner needs to bring into sensitive conversationsHow couples can avoid falling into repetitive patterns that shut down intimacyA real, personal story from EJ & Tarah about navigating desire discrepancies with vulnerabilityWhy repair matters more than getting it perfectPractical scripts for bringing up intimacy concerns without triggering defensivenessKey Takeaways:Curiosity is the antidote to fear. It keeps your heart open when patterns feel stuck.Emotional safety comes before desire. Without it, intimacy cannot thrive.Your partner is not the enemy. You're two people navigating a shared emotional landscape.Soft eyes, gentle tone, and asking “Is now a good time?” can instantly shift a conversation.Self-regulation is essential. You can't co-regulate as a couple if you're dysregulated individually.Intimacy evolves. You're not trying to get back to what it was — you're building what's next.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/he-said-she-said/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
