Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelensky's looking for further commitment on security guarantees after European nations have signed security declarations in Paris. The UK and France yesterday made a commitment to defend Ukraine at a meeting attended by 35 nations. Ukraine Ambassador to New Zealand and Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko told Andrew Dickens this hinges on the US. He says American leadership's instrumental – Ukraine can't achieve peace without US commitment to European security. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
European leaders are flocking to the White House to present an iron-clad defence of Ukraine's interests. The US is scaling up pressure for the war-battered Ukraine to agree to terms with Russia for ending the war, after this past weekend's Alaska summit. This could involve ceding territory to Russia, including Crimea - and ending its pursuit of NATO membership. Ukraine's Ambassador to New Zealand, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, says NATO would provide security guarantees, and possibly boots on the ground. He also explained we need to create conventional strategic weapons, other equipment and a strong army to deter Russia from future invasions. In this Australian Space Summit & Exhibition 2025 episode of the Defence Connect Podcast, senior journalist Robert Dougherty is joined by ambassador of Ukraine to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko. The pair discuss: Myroshnychenko's perspectives on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and critical support being provided by Australia to assist against Russian forces. Recent military actions in Ukraine and a massive Russian attack using 300 drones and 17 missiles launched into Ukrainian territory. Speculation that Russia will only negotiate in peace talks when it is sufficiently weakened and brought to the table. Australia's strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region and Russia's growing presence in Australia's area of influence. A need for Australia to bolster its sovereign defence capabilities and possible Ukrainian assistance in achieving this endeavour through battle-hardened expertise, innovation and technology. Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are looking noticeably left in the lurch without the Kremlin's leader. Vladimir Putin has backed out of a face-to-face meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Turkey - and US President Donald Trump followed suit soon after. It may have shattered other world leaders' hopes of a resolution. Ukraine ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko says the meeting now has little point. "We clearly see that Russia is not interested in peace, Russia is interested in continuing to wage war." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Prime Minister Chris Luxon has revealed that New Zealand will be extending its military assistance in support of Ukraine's self-defence until December 2026. Luxon says this announcement signals New Zealand's ongoing commitment to Ukraine in the fact of Russia's aggression. Vasyl Myroshnychenko, the Ukrainian ambassador to New Zealand and Australia says Russia won't be giving up any time soon - and support is still needed. "Russia is belligerent, Russia is authoritarian, and Russia is not giving up on Ukraine, so we do still need to have a strong army - and New Zealand's Government is making a very significant contribution to improve on our military capabilities, for which we are extremely thankful." The IBF Lightweight title is the one belt that "The Matrix" Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3) 11KOs was missing when he attempted his fate at unifying the entire Lightweight division four years ago against then IBF Champion Teofimo Lopez. Loma would fall short on the scorecards and instead lost all his belts to Lopez as well as his standing atop the division. Lomachenko again came up short in his second attempt at Undisputed when he faced Devin Haney. Loma remains hungry and with his sights dead set on reaching the throne. He can secure the title that has long eluded him with a victory tomorrow night. In his path, the former unified Lightweight Champion "Ferocious" George Kambosos Jr. (21-2) 10KOs. Kambosos reached the same heights as Lomachenko within the division and defeated the man that derailed Vasyl's plans in Teofimo Lopez. However, he would go on to suffer a similar fate against Devin Haney in his own attempt at becoming Undisputed. It is a high-stakes, crossroads type of affair for these two former Champions, who are respectively looking at returning to the top of the Lightweight division.Thank You so much for all of your continued support!Don't forget to follow me on Instagram @TOMATODITOSHOW where you can leave me a comment on the direct post corresponding to this episode. Also, you can reach out to me via X @TomaToditoShow.

#482 May The Force Be With You - It's a very special and moving Christmas episode as Richard talks to Ukranian comedian Vasyl Baidak about performing comedy in a war zone, how comedy has differed before, after and during the conflict, performing in shelters and trenches, how comedy helps process the horror and how absurd comedy seems redundant in the more absurd state of war, converting Stewart Lee tickets into a car, being championed by Stephen Fry, the influence of Andy Kaufman, building the country back one house at a time and keeping the Ukraine in people's minds and raising funds for the military. How do you tour and celebrate Christmas in a war? It's an incredible story from a very eloquent man speaking in a second language (where school lessons did not prepare him for talking about war). Please listen and share this one. And tonight don't thank God it's them instead of you. Ask God why anyone has to be in this situation.See the Guardian documentary here https://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2023/feb/23/the-year-that-never-ended-how-a-ukrainian-comedian-rebuilt-a-strangers-house-documentaryWatch Vasyl's special here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C34z0ozw_9ESee RHLSTP live - http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELSee extra content at our WEBSITE Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp.

Vasyl Matsyuk, a Yale Divinity student, grew up in the fully Democratic Ukraine only to see it ravaged by a war with Russia that began a year ago in February. The Russian conflict has long roots. Under the previous Soviet regime before Ukraine became a sovereign nation, Vasyl's parents and grandparents had endured years of religious discrimination and hardship as Protestants. Now, Vasyl is grappling with how his religious studies inform the harsh realities facing relatives and friends are facing as they defend themselves against bombs and missiles in a country he only knew as peaceful and free.
