When Colin opened the box of stained-glass pieces he’d purchased, instead of finding the fragments he’d ordered for a project, he discovered intact, whole windows. He sleuthed out the windows’ origins and learned they'd been removed from a church to protect them from World War II bombings. Colin marveled at the quality of work and how the “fragments” formed a beautiful picture. If I’m honest, there are times when I open particular passages of the Bible—such as chapters containing lists of genealogies—and I don’t immediately see how they fit within the bigger picture of Scripture. Such is the case with Genesis 11—a chapter that contains a repetitive cadence of unfamiliar names and their families, such as Shem, Shelah, Eber, Nahor, and Terah (vv. 10–32). I’m often tempted to gloss over these sections and skip to a part that contains something that feels familiar and fits more easily into my “window” of understanding of the Bible’s narrative. Since “all Scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is profitable” (2 Timothy 3:16), the Holy Spirit can help us better understand how a fragment fits into the whole, opening our eyes to see, for example, how Shelah is related to Abram (Genesis 11:26), the ancestor of David and—more importantly—Jesus (Matthew 1:2, 6, 17). He delights in surprising us with the treasure of a perfectly intact window where even the smaller parts reveal the story of God’s mission throughout the Bible.
Today's conversation is centered around integration and how connection with nature facilitates that. Growing up in LA, Colin's original perception of cannabis was laid back + geared toward recreation. When Colin battled addiction with opiates, “cannabis took the back seat.” His experience with the plant shifted toward therapeutic support + meditation enhancement post-service in the Army. As you'll hear, because of his own life-changing experience, Colin considers cannabis to be “the great unifier” and now helps veterans access cannabis, psychedelics + nature as healing tools. Philip Tarver, 47, attacked Angela Tarver and threatened his 83-year-old father Colin at the family home in Woking. The court heard Tarver had downed a bottle of vodka and six beers the night before the killing. When Colin awoke, he saw his son was wearing a female nightie or negligee. After preparing a breakfast of poached eggs, Colin heard screams from his wife. Ms Healy said: "He heard a short, sharp scream, and ran from where he was into the dining room. "He could see that the chair that Angela was sitting on was knocked over. He could see his wife's feet were resting on that knocked over chair and they were not moving. "He could tell she was laying on her back. Suddenly, the defendant appeared in front of him holding an ornamental sword that he had owned for sometime. "He was holding the sword out in front of him. He said something to the effect of 'I am going to kill you' or 'I have to kill you'. "He had a demented look in his eyes which he said were bulging." Instagram: @cfr_news

This week we’re joined by a former Wild Rose team member who is now repping a whole different side of Alberta's craft beer industry, Colin Mundy of GP Brewing Co.There are a lot of assumptions and stereotypes about craft beer... and the people who drink it. For many the label “craft” can mean ultra boozy beers, overly hoppy brews, face puckering kettle sours, or expensive four-packs of tall-boys, despite the fact that the term really just refers to beer brewed without preservatives, with a great deal of care and attention to detail, and frequently beer that is local and small batch. For beer drinkers who enjoy a more traditional lager the stereotypes behind craft beer can make them turn their nose up and steer clear of what is assumed to be mostly out-there-ales, even though the lager is one of the hardest styles to perfect. But folks with this more traditional palate often still want to buy beer that is brewed locally and supports Alberta farmers. Enter GP Brewing Co. This brewery based in Grand Prairie is best known for their Mercury Lager, a craft beer that doesn’t call itself one, at a phenomenal price. When Colin joined the GP Brewing team in their sales division he was in for a bit of a surprise around how to sell their beer, particularly with his background in what we normally think of as the craft beer industry. He tells us about what he’s learned consumers in this sector find important, from all-the-time availability to supporting farmers right here in Alberta, and even right down to packaging. When Mama T hops on this week we’re talking once again about improving the media we love. This time we debate what movies would be improved by being converted into musicals, and we even get a couple previews from Jonathan of what that might sound like. — Have a question for Mama T? In part six Colin travelled to hell to confront the Devil. Their – let’s call it an argument - resulted in the destruction of the Devil’s stronghold. In the midst of the devastation, Colin experienced a vision. He was transported to a moment in his own past. Through this vision he witnessed his meeting with a woman he had fallen in love with; a joyful memory edged with sorrow. He was also shown the moment of her death, a sorrowful moment edged with peace. Colin had little time to dwell on the meaning of this vision as he immediately found himself back in Hell, facing an enraged Devil. When it became apparent that the two would fight to a stalemate, Colin effectively surrendered to the Devil, offering to trust that the Devil would not destroy humanity, if the Devil agreed to add his signature to the blank contract that Colin had already signed. The Devil agreed, and signed, but Colin knew that the Devil had no intention of keeping his word. Which was fine, because neither had Colin. When Colin shook the Devil’s hand, he gripped it tight, and commanded his horse Saoirse to spirit them both away.
In part three of Immortal Enemies, Colin O’Hara, a man who, against his will, has switched places with Death, tried to cross the river that separates the realm of death from the plain of Sorrow, the emptiness that exists between life and death. As he attempted to swim the river, the river resisted him and Colin realized that it was impossible. The only way across was to be ferried by Charon. The ferryman was determined to return Colin to Sorrow, but when the fare for the crossing suddenly appeared in Colin’s hand, Charon had no choice but to bring Colin through the mist and across the river to the realm of Death. When Colin disembarked he followed a well-worn path that led him to a fork. Colin chose Hades, as his intention was to get back to the Devil so that they could finalize their plans for defeating Death. But to his shock, he discovered that the Devil does not dwell there. Hell and Hades are not the same place. Instead Colin came face to face with Hades himself. And Hades took great pleasure in explaining that, despite the assurances the Devil had offered, Colin had been tricked again. Hades then returned Colin to Sorrow where Charon awaited. To Colin’s great surprise Charon offered to try and take him downriver. Charon admitted that he did not know where the river went, or if travelling downstream was even possible, but Charon too had been cheated by the Devil, and driven by revenge, he had decided to help Colin, whom he now believed may actually be able to frustrate the Devil’s devices. In this chapter, we learn the origins of Colin's titular search for vengeance, as a bout of binge drinking and Dahlia (a prostitute with a heart of gold), trigger gruesome memories of ancient Romans crucifying his wife. When Colin discovers that the Roman leader, Marcus Octavius, now rules New York from a golden tower over Central Park, he teams up with Dahlia for a shot at Marcus's head. Also, he meets an druid ghost at a knock off Stonehenge. The Rewatchers discuss how many swords there are, meet Marcus's pet cat/ Mortal Kombat fighter of choice, and hulk a parking meter out of the ground and throw it 1000 feet like a javelin.
It’s easy to be charitable to people we don’t see very often, but if we really want to grow in this virtue, we have to make sure that charity begins at home. Home is the place where you want to let your guard down and relax, so it’s easy to get annoyed when family members disturb that peace. When Colin found himself getting irritated with his daughter about a really minor problem, he realized the necessity of being more charitable toward his family. We can apply the three steps from last week’s episode to grow in charity: look, listen, and challenge.

To know SmartBox, you have to know founder and CEO Colin Receveur, the dynamo that powers this marketing machine. Even though SmartBox was incorporated in 2001, it began inside Colin during his childhood. Colin’s experience helping dentists predates search engine optimization (SEO), Google, websites and even the Internet. Colin’s experience goes back to when he was a 7-year-old boy helping in his father’s dental office, filing records for a nickel apiece. He worked almost every day in his father’s office – and spent almost every night on the family’s Compaq computer (remember those?) in the early morning hours learning how to design and code websites in the Internet’s infancy. Though his dad is a dentist, Colin’s mom was a top sales executive with a Fortune 100 healthcare organization. So it was only natural for him to want to monetize his interest in websites. “In the 8th grade, my mom became concerned how I came into several hundred dollars monthly, and she worried I was into ‘something bad,’” Colin said. “I was doing affiliate marketing, selling banner advertising space on my website and getting commission checks!” Colin’s love of websites only grew from there. He launched a business designing websites for local businesses as a sophomore in high school (all while still working in his dad’s practice). As a junior, he was asked to lead his high school’s initiative to develop a school website. During that project, he gave several presentations to the school board. Ultimately, he combined all of his loves into SmartBox. He built his father’s first website in 1997. By 2006 he had joined forces with major consultants to service their clients’ patient attraction needs. SmartBox now works with more than 550 dentists on three continents. And while Colin would be crazy to have a marketing agency that doesn’t market itself, SmartBox’s largest source of new dentists comes from referrals and professional partnerships. “My background in dentistry, working in the office from a young age, managing my dad’s and hundreds of other practices, gives me a unique perspective into what dentists really want and how to leverage the tools available to help them reach their goals,” Colin said. While it’s not unusual to receive an email from Colin Receveur at 5:30 in the morning, it’s not just because he’s a workaholic. His kids – Benjamin, Emma, and Adelyn – are early risers too, and that helps dad get an early jump on the day. When Colin’s not working with clients, he’s a voracious reader of non-fiction, especially books on business and marketing. But don’t think Colin is all work and no play. Colin loves to scuba dive shipwrecks, collect shot glasses from everywhere he travels, and learn about World War II. Both of Colin’s grandfathers served in the big one, one as a paratrooper and the other as a medic who landed on Iwo Jima. Since this makes Colin sound like he can leap tall buildings in a single bound, it’s only fitting that his favorite superhero is Superman. But there is no hiding his secret identity as a man who can get you more of the patients who want faster than a speeding bullet. “Many marketing firms just get marketing. Website design firms know how to design pretty websites. SEO firms can do SEO. The problem is, when all you have is a hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail,” Colin said. “As a dentist, you don’t want marketing or websites or SEO, You want MORE AND BETTER PATIENTS in your chair. At SmartBox we know how to dominate your market area to make that happen.” https://smartboxdentalmarketing.com/
