Rather than measure the wing span of mosquitoes, Dr. Lynda Balneaves RN became a nurse. Her story begins with recognizing a love for people and for travel. Her academic journey, of supporting people and health care providers with engaging in shared decision-making related to complementary and integrative health care, includes some of Canada's earliest cannabis research. The scholastic chronicles, of this Doctor Nurse, speaks to how we can never truly plan our life path, but we do have the power to be properly prepared for opportunity. This episode will guide care givers in their practice responsibilities with cannabis, while increasing the expectations of those who receive care through it.Music by:William Prince - https://www.williamprincemusic.com(Yes we got a SOCAN membership to use this song all legal and proper like)Additional Music:Desiree Dorionwww.desireedorion.com/Marc Clementhttp://marcclementmusic.com/Links:Lynda Balneaves - https://spaces.hightail.com/receive/UTdDwlLCvM/fi-11488bf7-7253-4b36-8af7-d8958d8cc4a1/fv-a27a16af-fb2d-4d59-8cc0-b390615c0290/English%202_Vikas_First%20Draft.mp4

THE DAGG SESSIONSKen Tizzard and Music For Goats In St.John's in 1982 I cut my teeth playing bass with local skate/punk bands who wholeheartedly embraced the DIY model of the punk rock culture. SNFU were the first band I had ever seen who had taken this model to a national level and upon seeing the energy and intensity of the performance I knew - this was what I wanted to do with my life. At 18 I relocated to Toronto and landed a job at Music Express Magazine which let to the position of photo editor where I got to work with legendary photographers Floria Sigusmondi, Herb Ritts and Annie Leibovitz shooting bands like David Bowie, REM and U2 as well as hundreds of touring band around the world. This introduction to the music business, record companies, PR agencies and band management helped me to understand the relationship of band and audience from the viewpoint of the ‘machine.' As well, sharing office space with Management Trust (Jake Gold) led me to an audition with The Watchmen. In turn this changed my life direction for over a decade as I toured the world and grew as a songwriter and artist. In 1999 I began working a lot with Big Wreck singer Ian Thornley who at the time was married to my sister Christine. Big Wreck and The Watchmen were in between albums and both bands were feeling the weight of years of touring and the change in the record companies as we moved into the digital age. Ian and I decided to form a new band which led to the creation of Thornley with whom I toured relentlessly for many years. Towards the end of Thornley, Ian had decided to recreate the magic that was Big Wreck and again I toured with the band under that name as I began parting ways with the lifestyle and direction of the band. Upon leaving Thornley, there was a period of return to DIY with independent records which captured my solid endeavours - from six string bass singer songwriter (Quest Storey house) through several incarnations of bands including Bad Intent, The Variety Show Players and in 2017 the unlikely local crew which has grown to become Music For Goats. As well, the development of The Whiskey Wednesday Show created a need for a production studio which we also created in our home. The Show has grown into a seven camera, 24 channel audio, weekly livestream hosting guests from Rick Mercer, William Prince and Joey ‘Shithead” Keithley (D.O.A.) to Matt Mays and Bob Izumi. Songs and stories every week with your host Ken Tizzard and Music For Goats. It is now January 2024 and I am once again looking to release another album of original music with the current line-up of Music For Goats; Neil Lucy (guitar) Ken Grant (bass) and Dave Lawrence (drums) and Steve Dagg (RIP - drums). This album titled “THE DAGG SESSIONS” celebrates the songs created before drummer Steve Dagg was diagnosed with Cancer. After a year long battle of treatments Steve passed away in the winter of 2023. We had recorded the drums for the entire record in September before Steve's illness was terminal. The Dagg Sessions is available on all platforms on April 30, 2024 The Dagg Sessions will be available on vinyl thanks to contributors who purchased sections of the back album cover in order to help out with up front costs. Yes, we are sell outs… As for style of this record, I have to say it fits in with the Americana genre pretty well as if combines folk, country, rock and pop into a collection of songs that once again document a time and place in my own personal history. Editor's note: Basic Folk is pleased to introduce our listeners to one of our favorite podcasts by sharing an episode in our feed! The Other 22 hours, hosted by singer/songwriter Michaela Ann and producer Aaron Shafer-Haisse, talks to fellow musicians about the helpful tools and routines the use to stay creative, inspired, and sane while navigating a career built on their art. The thing I like about this podcast is that these conversations are between musicians. They're very real. The musicians share insights that go beyond normal bio questions. They talk about things that can actually translate into non musicians' lives. They dive in deep right from the start. I came across this podcast when they interviewed Leyla McCalla and was blown away by that conversation. Some other favorites have been William Prince, Gretchen Peters. Today we're going to share their conversation with Mary Chapin Carpenter. I hope you enjoy and subscribe and follow and support Aaron and Michaela on The Other 22 hours.Episode SummaryMary Chapin Carpenter is an 18x Grammy nominated, 5x Grammy winning, 6x platinum-selling singer-songwriter with over 16 albums and decades of touring so far in her career. We talk with Mary Chapin about her songwriting process, including her need for solitude and her practice of "song walking," we talk about how she still faces rejection even with all of her accolades and commercial success, how common and easy it is to personalize mistreatment from people in power (and how to combat that), and much more on this very candid final episode of Season 1.Episode NotesMary Chapin Carpenter is an 18x Grammy nominated, 5x Grammy winning, 6x platinum-selling singer-songwriter with over 16 albums and decades of touring so far in her career. And to conclude the Newport Folk Festival Series of in-person interviews from the 2024 edition of this amazing festival, I'm happy to present William Prince, Alisa Amador, and Solange Igoa and Andrea Walker of Glitterfox!!William is the 2024 John Prine Songwriter Fellowship Award winner, and his latest album, Stand in the Joy, won William his second JUNO award as well as the nod for the Canadian Country Music Awards Alternative Country Album of the Year. Alisa is a charming and witty human, with a new album, Multitudes, which includes tracks in both Spanish and English. Alisa, who won the 2022 Tiny Desk Contest, combines a level of vulnerability with the ability to connect with her audience in totally unique way. William Prince: Stand in the JoyIf there is anyone I am excited to see at Newport Folk Festival this year, it is William Prince. From the first song on his amazing 2023 record, Stand in the Joy, I felt like I was listening to a songwriter who has figured it out: how to cut out all the things that get in the way of a great song and just get to the heart. In our conversation, I found myself wondering if that is connected to what we talked about: how to cut out or move past the things in life that don't end up making a difference in the end. As William discusses, it's all about family, love, and spending time doing what fills you up. I hope you enjoy this conversation with William–make sure to check out his music and, if you are going to Newport, don't miss his set! Interview by Ken Templeton

It's been an amazing Season 4 here at Hidden Track. We've had visits with an astounding array of inspired artists, ranging from local heroes to global greats; from a reigning Polaris Prize winner to a newly minted Grammy Award winner; from hip-hop to hardcore punk to homespun folk. It's been such a wild 2023! So wild, in fact, that we felt the need to do a special episode to wrap up the season. Given the daunting task of summarizing such an incredible season, Grant decided to call in a little help! For this year-end episode, Grant Stovel is joined by Hidden Track producer Scott Zielsdorf to help share some great stories and songs from amongst this season's 21 episodes. In particular, this collection of magical moments zeroes in on the idea of connecting to something larger through music -- whether that's connecting with family and friends, with community, with humanity at large, connecting with your own inner sense of humanity, even connecting with your true artistic self. That yearning to connect is often the catalyst that compels musicians to create, to express, to be part of something. Music can be a vector for connection in amazing ways -- as we hear in this episode! With memorable stories and songs from the likes of William Prince, Tanika Charles, Arlo Maverick, Wendy McNeill, Dan Mangan, F*cked Up, Young Fathers, Aysanabee, Andy Shauf, Kid Koala & Leilani, Alex Cuba, and July Talk. Thank you for being with us in 2023! And we thank all of our guests for being so generous with their time and their hearts. All the best for 2024, and we can't wait to share Hidden Track Season 5 with you! Singer and songwriter William Prince joins me on the show this week.William came by the studio here in East Nashville to talk with me on the eve of his Grand Ol' Opry debut, which was quite thrilling for a guy from northern Manitoba. William hails from the Peguis First Nation, which is a couple of hours outside of Winnipeg, which is where he now lives. He's just released a killer new record called “Stand In The Joy” and it was great to get a chance to talk about that, how he wrote the songs for it, and recorded it, as well as his musical history, his upbringing, and how he was exposed to the country and rock music that really resonated with him. He's made a few records now here in Nashville and Savanah with Dave Cobb, and they really do sound amazing. Great playing, great vibe, and what a voice! He is a Juno Award winner, and has a bunch of other accolades and awards for his various records. 2020's “Reliever” is a great one, and right after it came out he also released a gospel record, “Gospel First Nation”. William is going to be out touring alot this year and next, so check out all of his dates and music at williamprincemusic.comBe sure to listen to the Accompanying Songs Playlist which contains some of the artist's work, plus many of the songs we discuss on the show:Playlist on Spotify / Playlist on Apple MusicIf you enjoyed this episode, please consider supporting the show with a donation or Patreon subscriptionThe show's website can be found at www.makersandshakerspodcast.comYour fearless host, Steve Dawson can be found at www.stevedawson.ca Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/mmasspodcast. The past year has been a standout for Peguis First Nation's own William Prince. From opening for Willie Nelson, debuting at the Grand Ole Opry to releasing his beautiful new album “Stand in the Joy,” one of Canada's finest singer-songwriters joins Tom to reflect on what he's learned so far in his journey about music, family and the deeply meaningful nature of life's small joys.
William Prince's rich baritone voice resonates with amazing warmth, light, and wisdom. Along with the poetic songs and stories that it delivers, his voice just seems to have a way of instantly finding a place in people's hearts. It's no wonder that William's voice and songs have taken him all the way from the small Manitoba community where he grew up, to great acclaim all across Canada. In a way, William Prince has spent his whole life exploring the ways that music can be a source of connection, communion, and healing. As a kid growing up in Southern Manitoba's Peguis First Nation, he played guitar with his father, who was as singer and songwriter in a gospel/country vein. After that up-close apprenticeship, he embarked upon a career of his own. He hit home almost immediately with his powerful 2015 debut album Earthly Days, which won him a Juno Award right out of the gate, signaling the arrival of a major new figure on the singer-songwriter scene. In the years since, he's garnered increasing international recognition for his work with his sophomore album Reliever, and an homage to his dad and his roots with Gospel First Nation. Spring 2023 sees the release of Stand in the Joy, a triumphant collection of bittersweet yet hopeful songs. It's an album that William says, "acknowledges pain but does not give it power. What I hope comes through are feelings of love, peace, and strength." On tour through Alberta, William Prince stopped by CKUA's Edmonton studios for a visit, bringing his guitar, his brilliant songs and, of course, that incredible voice. Canadian and Peguis First Nation singer-songwriter William Prince created his latest album, Stand in the Joy, with the help of country super-producer Dave Cobb. The JUNO-winning musician brings his rich baritone to our studios for a live performance.
Episode 244: William Prince grew up on country and gospel music in rural Manitoba on the Peguis First Nation reserve, getting a grounding from his minister/musician father. Now Prince is a musical minister of sorts, making a strong mark on north American folk music with his sincerity, gravitas and beautiful baritone voice. His formal debut won Canada's JUNO Award for best contemporary folk album, and his twin releases in 2020 were well attuned to the spiritual yearning of the pandemic lockdown. Now Stand In The Joy, produced by Dave Cobb, is a rich portrait of contentment and gratitude. I also speak with DC-based roots rocker Erik Vincent Huey about his late career solo debut, investigating his West Virginia roots.

Singer-songwriter William Prince on his brand new album, “Stand in The Joy,” playing the Grand Ole Opry, and the feeling of falling in love. Plus, actor Madison Tevlin (38:00) on the advice she got from her co-star Woody Harrelson, what she has in common with her character in the new movie “Champions,” and what it's like having her cover of “All of Me” go viral.
William Prince spent a long time recording his debut album. By the time ‘Earthly Days' was released in 2015, Prince had lived a lot of life and was ready for the sort of instant stardom that would throw a lot of emerging singer-songwriters for a loop. A number of extraordinary things happened followed the release of ‘Earthly Days:' the song “Breathless” was a hit on the Billboard adult contemporary music charts, Prince won the Juno Award for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year, and Prince toured the hell out of the record for several years, opening for artists like Neil Young. This extended tour gave him the opportunity to basically perfect his live set in a way many new artists don't get to.William has gone deeper and deeper and deeper with subsequent releases. He describes love and loss and self and community and fear and courage with universal appeal on 2020's ‘Reliever.' He reinterprets the orthodoxy and aesthetics of his Christian upbringing through an indigenous lens on ‘Gospel First Nation.' He synthesizes varied traditions and flexes impressive vocal chops almost casually.William's new record, ‘Stand In The Joy,' comes out April 14th on Six Shooter Records, and it is a catchy, ambitious testimony about the power of love and hope. Talking about the album with William gave me the chance to ask him about his evolving spirituality, the tension between tradition and trendiness in roots music, how the loves of his life change how he shows up as a performer, what it's like to work with superstar producer Dave Cobb, and what freedom looks like from a Peguis first nations perspective.Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/ Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknews Help produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/ Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

In today's episode, Carl talks to William Prince, who is a fresh new saxophone voice on the smooth jazz scene. He has already worked with the likes of Phil Perry, Doobie Powell, Chris "Big Dog" Davis, and Carol Albert and in 2021, he worked with hit maker Adam Holley on his latest released roll on.They discuss how his church background helped mold his musical career from playing gospel through drums, keyboard, organ to eventually, discovering and learning to play his main instrument which is saxophone. He mentions that having a professional career forces him to put music on a backseat, but his wife supports and understands him by letting him practice and record whenever he can. William says that his main goal as a musician is to make sure that the audience is moved by his playing in some way that they can feel what he's trying to communicate through his horn. Tune in to find out the many artists that inspired and influenced William to pursue his passion for contemporary jazz and its effect to his own music.Episode Highlights 16:42 - The most rewarding part about being a musician is just being able to express yourself with nonverbal expression, just to pick up my horn, and just play. 31:00 - You got to keep going. No matter what. Just keep chasing the music that strikes a chord. Sometimes you'll get it, sometimes you'll never get it, but you can't stop, never stop. 43:24 - Don't beat yourself up too much. Sometimes those mistakes make you better. So, embrace your mistakes, but don't try to make too many. The mistakes you do make, they're not lost because they live with lessons.ContactFresh Coast Jazz FestivalWilliam Prince

The Daily Derringer Podcast - Wednesday March 23rd 2022 Check out more full episodes at Q107.com The fascinating story of Canada's most revered concert hall and the myriad artists who have graced its stage. Known for its intimacy and sense of occasion, a night at Toronto's Massey Hall is magical for both audiences and performers. For many musicians, playing the hall is the surest sign that they have made it. Looking out over the crowd, performers often comment that they feel they have joined history as they stand on the stage where Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, and so many other legends have stood. Based on scores of interviews and meticulous research, Massey Hall chronicles not only the historical and musical moments of the past 127 years, but also the community of artists and supporters that has built up around the hall. Covering both emerging artists such as Shakura S'Aida and William Prince and musical giants from Herbie Hancock to the Tragically Hip, this full-colour book is a celebration of music, community, and our shared cultural heritage. Last fall, Sophie Clark broke up with her long-term partner and it was one of the hardest things she's ever done. Trying to organize her grief, she began a weekly ritual - lighting candles and journaling about the break-up. But now, several months later, the ritual is feeling a little flat. What can she do to reimagine her practice to better fit where she is now in the grief process? With help from Jane Eyre and a William Prince song, Sophie, Vanessa and Casper explore what kind of thoughts and feelings surround a big break-up and what it means to heal. At the end of today's episode, you'll hear an original song by Sophie! You can hear more of her music here.--We are so grateful to our supporters on Patreon who make this show possible.
