Your hosts this episode: Patrique OptimalAudio marsbars In this special episode the podcast is joined by fellow guest marsbars to discuss the discography of one of the most prominent, prolific, and spanning groups in all of Hip Hop: The Wu-Tang Clan. From their epic debut with 36 Chambers, their break into the mainstream with Wu-Tang Forever, and beyond into the more contentious later albums of their group output. The podcast covers it all and discusses where and why the group's possible decline in quality came from, where it becomes truly noticeable in the group and individually how each member stacks up on said projects. It's a tricky topic with many sides and a lot of debate this episode, so don't miss out! B. Cox and J. Owe look back at rap super group's Wu-Tang Clan's second album Wu-Tang Forever as it turns 25. In the almost four years since they burst on the scene with their classic debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), the collective of emcees continued to have an impact on the industry with a number of acclaimed to classic solo LPs by group members, Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, GZA and Ghostface Killah. As a part of RZA's "Five Year Plan" for the group, the double album dropped at a critical time in hip-hop, reeling from the deaths of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious BIG. Featuring production the aforementioned producer and group member Inspectah Deck, Wu affiliates 4th Disciple and True Master, the album featured a gritty, yet more polished set of beats with a non-stop lyrical assault over almost two hours. The album was certified 4x Platinum, which is their best selling album to date, and solidified Wu-Tang as a force heading into the new millennium. HOT DAMN. It's a new day! On this episode of THE BARACK OBAMA APPROVED WORLD'S GREATEST PODCAST, we go back in time! In September 2019, I was joined by Michael Lamerique and my semi-regular co-host Marcus Robinson to discuss Jay-Z's deal to work with the NFL. Before we got into the episode proper, however, Lam and I were talking with live mics, and then Marcus joined us, and then, with a resounding "'SUP JERKS?!", Errick Greenlee appeared out of nowhere! We talk about video games, wrestling, parenting, work... we're just all over the place. So I give you an inside look at Hyphen Podcast Group's Brain Trust. Shortly after the release of 36 Chambers, RZA and the Wu-Tang worked to release solo projects for all members of the group. Although not everyone was able to get a release before the next Wu album, Wu-Tang Forever, we still got some dope projects. Especially the one that I'm about to talk to y'all about today. For its 25th anniversary, this week I'm talking about one of my favorite albums of all time, Liquid Swords by The Genius, GZA. Video link: https://youtu.be/ttftSuaubNM

I talk to Chris about the second disc of “Wu-Tang Forever.” We get into the production and grandiosity of the album in general as well as Chris’ experience with the album and Wu-Tang overall! This episode was recorded before the release of “The Saga Continues” and U-God’s book, so we speak a bit about that as well. Paul Cantor is a music producer, writer, and entrepreneur. Before we got into the first disc of Wu-Tang Forever, we discussed Cantor’s upbringing on Staten Island, freestyling for Cappadonna, watching the Clan’s rise while there, and the work he’s done with Ghostface, Raekwon, 9th Prince, Shyheim and more! With regard to Wu Forever we get into how and why the album has a “sharp sound,” the change in structure lyrically, the origins of the “Wu-Tang Sound” and much more! Here are some of Paul’s writings on the Clan: “The 20 Best Wu-Tang Clan Albums” http://www.complex.com/music/2013/11/best-wu-tang-clan-albums/ “Is Wu-Tang Really Forever?” https://medium.com/cuepoint/is-wu-tang-really-forever-17bebb2cf509 “Ayo, the Wu is Back?” https://massappeal.com/wu-tang-clan-the-saga-continues-mathematics/ Keep up with Paul @paulcantor on Twitter and Medium! Darryl Hill (born September 18, 1969), best known by his stage name Cappadonna, is an American rapper. He is a member of the hip-hop collective the Wu-Tang Clan[2] and is a member of the rap group Theodore Unit together with Ghostface Killah. Cappadonna (also known as Cappachino) was known to the future members of the Wu-Tang Clan, and had been U-God's mentor.[3] However, Cappadonna went to prison and was replaced in the group by Method Man.[4]Cappadonna made his recording debut as an affiliate of the Wu-Tang Clan on Raekwon's 1995 single "Ice Cream" on Only Built for Cuban Linx.... He was also a guest star, along with Raekwon, on Ghostface Killah's solo debut album, Ironman. He made his first appearance on a Wu-Tang Clan album in 1997 on Wu-Tang Forever on the single "Triumph". Following his appearance on Forever, he contributed significantly to the group's third studio album, The W, at which point his appearances were no longer marked with "Featuring Cappadonna", as they had been on Forever. After a falling out with RZA the next year over royalties, he did not appear at all on the group's subsequent album Iron Flag. He eventually reunited with the group for their concert at 2004's Rock the Bells, and appeared on 2007's 8 Diagrams.Cappadonna's status as a Wu-Tang member or as a featured artist has varied throughout the years. While long referred to by both the group and fans as the "Unofficial Tenth Member", there is no confirmation on whether he actually became the official tenth member following the death of Ol' Dirty Bastard. While MTV.com's biographies of both him and the group claim that he is an official member,[5] their subsequent bios on the group's official website do not list him as such.[6][7] Also, while his vocals on 8 Diagrams were not marked with "Feat. Cappadonna", much like The W, he does not appear on the front cover with the original eight living members, and is not featured in the album's booklet with a picture, although he is included in the group's shout outs sections.Cappadonna's first solo effort was 1998's The Pillage which debuted and peaked at #3 on the charts and certified Gold. His follow-up - 2001's The Ying and The Yang - debuted at only #51 on the charts. Staying vigilant in his support of The Clan, he then featured on over 25 releases including classics from Raekwon, Method Man and Ghostface.Known for his colorful wardrobe, he frequently refers to fashion designers and his large collection of boutique clothing in his raps.
