Y'all!!! WE BACK ON THAT PODCAST FLOW: after some end of semester busy-ness, finals & some travels being OUTSIDE OUTSIDE — we are back INSIDE integrating, processing, & sharing some podcast goodness.Check out the new episode: CCCC Episode 27: Poderosa coding Chat con Lidia De La Cruz: “Rejection is Redirection”Lidia is a first gen, eldest daughter and afro latina born and raised in The Bronx, she recently pivoted into tech during the pandemic, she graduated from a coding bootcamp and embarked on her journey of becoming a Software Engineer and documenting her story as a Latina in Tech without a Computer Science Degree. She is a community builder and not gate keeping resources nor tips for women who want to break into tech. She has grown her internet community on IG called @poderosacoding where she provides content for folks wanting to transition into tech.We recored this gem in JANUARY during the New Year — though it might seem like a while ago — this is a PERFECT time to release this episode. We are in summer flow reconnecting with nature / the flow of life after winter months in the Northeast — in a way we are defrosting. We are also 6 months ish into the year — so what a perfect time to take stock of our goals and aspirations and reevaluate where we are at.Lidia mentioned she wanted to show up for in person events, speaking engagements, and panel discussions related to being Latina in Tech! Make sure you keep her in mind when booking someone to do these events and book her ASAP! Together we process imposter syndrome, pivoting careers, and making a commitment to support students who are underresourced & continue to be the minority in spaces such as the tech industry & higher education!Make sure you listen and let us know your fave part of the episode! And follow her on the socials!https://www.instagram.com/poderosacoding/?hl=enhttps://twitter.com/poderosacodinghttps://www.facebook.com/poderosacoding/videos/

CCCC Season 1 Episode 9: Higher Education as First-Gen LatinaIn this episode Yessenia and I dive deep into discussing what it's like to navigate higher education as first-generation “Latinas”, we deconstruct what that means for us in academia. We share our love for study abroad and travel, and our shared role as a college advisor for students.Yessenia Tostado loves to appreciate time everyday to experience a life well-lived by actively being adventurous. She is a first generation Mexican-American college graduate and a daughter of immigrants. A brief road map of Yessenia's life would highlight that she grew up in East Los Angeles, where she played soccer 7 summers in a row and had two different programs, Project GEAR UP and College Match, to support her in her college going journey. After learning about the value of a liberal arts education, Yessenia moved across the country to attend college in Pennsylvania, where she got to learn so much about herself, had some amazing experiences with best of friends, and was fortunate enough to study abroad twice. After earning a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a Health Studies Certificate from Dickinson College, Yessenia moved to the Chicagoland area to be an AmeriCorps Scholar Coach to support high school students in their journey to college. After completing her two years of service and taking a much needed break between jobs, Yessenia moved to Colorado to join College Track Aurora as a College Completion Advisor. Yessenia believes in the 10 year promise that College Track makes to its students to get to and through college and into their careers. In this current role as an advisor, Yessenia works diligently to support students in their own journeys for a life of opportunities, choice and power through the value of a college degree. Other, possibly at the end of our coffee chat (promo): If you'd like to learn more about Yessenia, search for the Unsealed LYPs podcast to hear about her first year in college, studying abroad, and following her dreams away from home.Connect with her here:LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/yessenia-tostado-9aba7571/ and Social Media - Instagram @brightstar076Need to Revamp Your Resume™ in a weekend?
