Hi Friend! Today on Episode 80. we get real, we talk about deep things, and get vulnerable. We all go through hard seasons but it's all in how we view and handle them that makes all the difference. If you live in the Midwest or an area that tends to experience all the seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, then I think this will really make sense to you. Each one serves a purpose and just when we are done with a season the next one is right on the horizon. Much of that is like our life, and I hope I can encourage you in this episode to not lose hope in whatever season you are in. God doesn't waste what you are going through if you don't let the opportunity pass you by. I am in a heavy and thick season of motherhood and parenting (tax season for my husband) and I have to be willing to allow the shifts to happen rather than fight my way through it thinking it can look the same when in reality, it can't. I have felt God nudging me in a couple areas to slow down, and ruffling the feathers in my day to day routines/habits.  I pray this episode teaches you the importance of each season, how they build upon each other, and how to embrace them when they feel out of our control (which is majority of the time). Hi Friend, I realized I had not done a final episode covering how the end of our garden season went, all the things we grew and harvested, how we preserved it all, and the journey along the way. I will be honest and say this was my first year where it felt harder to make time for the garden and get in there to truly just appreciate it. It felt more like a chore a times than a passion/hobby. Maybe it's just the transition to momming 4 little humans this year and my brains capacity to enter in to everything 100% isn't there. But aren't I the energizer bunny?? haha, for real though.  I did have some good takeaways and we were blessed with a wonderful bounty. Our chickens that we acquired in early July are now laying and it is SO exciting. I share some updates on them and how we are tending to them on the little land we have.  I know you'll find some encouragement and life lessons in this episode. Enjoy! Hi friend, Bringing you a topic today that has been on my list and I am pretty excited about it. If you are someone who exercises, eats a fairly whole foods diet, breastfeeding, or just an active individual in general then you MUST be taking in electrolytes. I have always been one to use electrolytes but I didn't pay attention much to the sodium levels I was consuming. I was NOT getting enough and once I changed what I was using I wouldn't go back. Sodium is an electrolyte mineral that is required for our body to function at it's best and help our body communicate well beneath the surface. It has gotten a bad rap and unless you have medical conditions that would caution you otherwise to seek out professional advice, you probably aren't getting enough. Just drinking water alone will not hydrate you. Come and tune in to this episode to learn more and get yourself some high quality delicious electrolytes to up your wellness game and feel amazing throughout your days.    My FAVE brands are: LMNT - I have one almost every day. Whether or not you have kids at homeschooling age yet or don't homeschool I hope this can still encourage you and provide a different perspective. Come and see what subjects we are focusing on, what kinds of resources we use for math, writing, reading, history, etc. We don't touch on every single subject but that really isn't my goal. I was 100% schooled in the school system and my husband was 100% homeschooled so we are a blend of both. I have had to unlearn a lot of things and learn new things.  It's been exciting and scary at the same time! I have found, though, that this suits us well, I CAN do this, and my kids are learning SO much. Not every day is perfect bc let's face it I have 4 kids from ages 6 down to 7 months old. Sometimes I just have to roll with the punches and adjust my expectations when necessary.  We are thriving already and can't wait to delve into a chicken study course since now we have some ourselves. We will also be ever learning about preserving food, canning, and gardening as part of it all.    Here are some links to a handful of things we are using if you care to look in to them or if you have questions: Math - Math U See Spelling - Spelling U See Speed Drills - Math Speed Drills  History and Books - Tuttle Twins Printable Learning Activities and Booklets - Arrows and Applesauce Chickens On The Homestead Unit Study - Heritage School House   I pray this blesses you, Gabby

Hey There! Welcome back to this week's episode. I attended a fitness convention recently and I wanted to make sure I recorded an episode while everything I soaked up was fresh in my mind. I've come to this 2 other years as part of my personal training continuing education and it's always loads of fun as well as information overload! I nerd out with it all though bc I just love getting to hear from all the fitness professionals and try out some new exercises and formats.  I noticed, however, a major theme as I was looking at all the different sessions I could choose from to attend. There were SO many of them focused on mobility, stretching, getting back to basics, helping out clients gain stability, how to help our aging clients stay healthy and continue to reap the benefits of exercise as they get older. It is up to us (me) as fitness professionals to educate you and teach you all how to not fall into the traps the world can lead us in to when it comes to our health and wellness. It's so hard to navigate sometimes. What exercises should I do?, where do I start?, what should I eat?, how much should I be eating?,etc. That's one of the main reasons I began this podcast. To provide a free educational resource for you to have and refer to during those moments.  One of our main session speakers was bold enough to touch on the fact the Big Pharma really doesn't have American's best health interest in mind. The fact of the matter is, it's turned into a big money grab and it's all being made off of those of us who are ill informed. We need people willing to speak up and shed light in those dark areas so more people start seeing it for what it really is. There was a slide that was shared that said, Why don't doctors prescribe personal training or group fitness? "If it was a pill, exercise would be a trillion-dollar moneymaker prescribed to everyone." See where I am going with this? If it's not making "them" money or part of the "protocol" it won't be mentioned or talked about. I want the best for you and to be the one who can maybe present new  perspectives and shed light on these matters that have led Americans so astray. Take ownership for your health, become educated and empowered so you can live an amazing life free of pain, sickness, and medicine.  Tune in to hear me share it all and my passion for what I do! Hi Friend, This weeks topic is a bit of a heavier one but it's a good one and addresses some hard things we ALL will go through and experience in life. Trauma, Death, Grief...it comes with living life here on this earth. I read a quote that led me to want to talk about it on this podcast and it said this..."Trauma creates changes we don't choose. Healing is about creating changes we do choose." - Michele Rosenthal That resonated with me SO much and I invite you in on a vulnerable and real conversation I have with you. Healing isn't linear...is the goal even to heal? I want you to feel seen and be able to be encouraged by this episode so that you don't keep stuffing the emotions. Feeling the feelings and emotions and having to say no to things bc it's a hard day is all a part of the journey and process. Are you willing to accept that?  As I wrote out these notes, the next day I saw that a well known entrepreneur named, Jessie Lee, had passed at age 34 from stage 4 cancer. LIKE WHAT?! It just broke my heart and I listened to a podcast done by her coach Ed Mylett that left me in tears bc I felt everything he said like it was being spoken to me. Just know that grief is a sign that there was SO much LOVE. Miss them but live a life out loud for whomever or whatever it is that you have lost.  It doesn't always have to pertain to death, there are many things we can grieve in life. When my son was diagnosed with Hemophilia, I grieved the loss of things he won't get to do and the kind of life he will have to live.  If this episode resonates with you or speaks to you then I would love it if you could share this episode online or with someone you know who is going through a tough season. This is for them! God is STILL good, even amidst the hard. He is there to carry the load and offer overflowing peace and grace. Choose to allow Him to help you feel the feelings but learn how to move forward and grow from them. Life is a precious gift, LIVE and LOVE hard my friends.    Love and Peace To You Gabby

Kids are back to school, maybe you are homeschooling, work schedule is different, whatever it might be, I want you to start recognizing that these seasons come and go every single year but what should remain a constant a priority are your health and wellbeing. You see, once you begin to master the basics and the monotonous day in and day out habits around eating healthier, drinking more water, exercising, getting more sleep, surrounding yourself with uplifting people, etc. it will naturally become effortless to make that a part of your every day.  Stop playing victim to the hamster wheel you find yourself continually on. Pick one thing to start changing and work on it for a week or two before adding on more. Get up 15/20 minutes earlier and build on that, drink a tall glass of water upon waking, set out workout clothes the night before, plan your meals/snacks for the next day....etc. Whatever it might be for you...just show up consistently.  I want to see you thrive in these winter months when it's darker and colder and just less inviting to get up and go. We must master the mundane and realize we must stop letting our emotions and feelings run the day for us. You can overcome them and choose different even when we don't want to.  I know this message will be the kick in the pants you need. Grab your coffee/beverage of choice and take notes, or go on a walk while you tune in. I had some positive feedback and I really felt led to share it here.  Our world, more than ever, is booming with distractions. If we aren't careful, they can begin to impact and blur our vision and dreams. You must know what those distractions and and be able to combat them when they present themselves. Become aware of them and how to respond to them so you can continue to move in the direction you want. Keep your focus on God's truths and allow Him to help navigate you through life.  Know that what "you focus on, you find." Hey Friend! Welcome back to this week's episode. I never understood how Mom's would sometimes forget to eat or just barely have time to fit it in. Now having 4 children of my own, I do, I get it! haha. The purpose of today's topic is to bring back awareness to why we must be intentional with fueling our bodies during Motherhood. Especially during pregnancies, postpartum healing, and to keep up with the season of life of little people. Also, we must think long term and if you desire to do things with your older children and then your grandchildren. Wouldn't it be incredible to be in such a great physical and mental state to be able to participate and engage in so much adventure in the life ahead and not be burdened by a sick, weak, unhealthy body? I am sharing why I gravitated back towards tracking my food after having my 4th child. How I came back to the basics, why I am not being so strict, and how it's helping me make sure I eat enough (especially protein). My goal is to encourage you as Mom's to take ownership of your health and well-being. That you would recognize that taking care of you allows you to show up as your best self for your family. It won't always look perfect bc I know I have already had the days where I wasn't so focused on tracking or being mindful but when I have this tool in my pocket I can pull it back out at start right up again the next day. It holds me accountable and reminds me of the goal. Tracking my food religiously is not the goal, the goal is to create the awareness when I am going to put something in my mouth and creating better habits that will serve me long term through the ups and downs in Motherhood seasons. I can then have an established thought pattern that won't require tracking, it will be more intuitive and mindful right from the get go and that is my hope for you!   Blessings of Health and Happiness, Gabby    If you liked this podcast and found value here today it would mean a lot if you would hit subscribe and if you scroll down on my show you can leave a rating and review which would mean SO much and help more and more people find this podcast.    Email me with topic ideas at gabby.flater@getrootedinhealth.com   Facebook - Gabriella Flater Rooted In Health Facebook Community  Instagram - @gabby.getrootedinhealth Show Instagram - @getrootedinhealthpodcast Website - Rooted In Health, LLC Email - gabby.flater@getrootedinhealth.com

Hey Friend! Welcome back to another episode. This week I am sharing some insights on what it's like to workout when you are a Mom with a bunch of little humans. (my world currently!) I have been well seasoned in this, the last 6 years and make it my aim to still show up to take care of my body despite the imperfection of how it all gets done sometimes.  If you are struggling to make exercise and moving your body a priority as a Mom and really want to then let me encourage you in this episode. It can be really hard some days but you will usually thank yourself later that you did. Let your kids be your BIGGEST reason to take care of you not your excuse not to. You'd be amazed at what your children will learn and value as they watch their Mom make a little time for them. Include them and share with them why you are doing this. I am cheering you on Momma!    Blessings of Health and Happiness, Gabby    Link to the printable homeschool sheets I was talking about in the intro. Hi friend! In this episode we get right to it! Chatting about how much we as humans evolve and that it is OK to change. So often we fear what others will think of us if we choose to take a different path than what we were originally on. That is no way to live  my friends. You will end up living life on other people's terms than your own. We are constantly being shaped and molded throughout life, so it would only make sense that we change/evolve right? That is a sign of growth, understanding, and humility.  I hope this message speaks to you, whatever season of life you're in. May it help you grow and push past the beliefs you've been allowing yourself to hang on to.    Blessings of Health and Happiness, Gabby    DID YOU KNOW that just drinking tons and tons of water isn't actually hydrating your body? Are you someone who works out regularly or has a busy active lifestyle? We absorb electrolytes through food and drink, and excrete them through sweat, urine, and feces. If one side of this equation becomes skewed (from heavy sweating, diarrhea, etc), an electrolyte imbalance can result. Electrolyte deficiency in particular leads to symptoms like fatigue, headaches, and muscle cramps.  Let me tell you about my FAVORITE electrolyte drink that has been a staple in my diet for over 2 years now, LMNT. It is my go to every day as an active Mom who is breastfeeding, exercising, and just keeping up with life in general. These little on the go packets are packed with sodium, magnesium, and potassium. I want to maximize my hydration when I consume water and this is one easy way I can do so. It's wild to think I am on the other side of it now and by the time this episode airs, she will be 5 weeks old.  I knew she was coming early, and she did, by 6 days. I can't tell you why or how I knew, but it was just this Mom instinct and gut feeling (which, by the way, is usually spot on haha). It was such an incredible birth and God really answered my prayers of wanting this one to be similar to my 2nd born. I had an incredible support from my husband, as usual, and actually invited my Mom to attend as well! We chose to have another unmedicated hospital birth and I couldn't have asked for better nurses or a midwife to support me in that choice.  It all happened so fast once I finally accepted the fact that I was in labor. It was a rich and beautiful experience to be able to labor majority of it at home around my other 3 children. I LOVE talking about and hearing about different birth experiences. I share my take on how we (my husband and I) have pursued the goal of a natural birth with all our children within the hospital realm. I share little insights from each of my other 3 births, things that we learned, and resources we've used to help us along the way.  My goal is to just better inform women/mom's about their options and choices out there. So much has been lost in this culture in terms of empowering the Mom to use her voice and stand firm in her instincts when it comes to birth. While I recognize that birth interventions/"protocols" are used and needed in critical times I also recognize that they have been abused and women have NOT been educated on how they impact you and baby long term. I also understand that not every woman cares and that is totally fine too. Do what you want with the information you have and the desired outcome you are seeking. We are all different but all I can ask is for you to have an open mind as I share my knowledge and labor experiences. I can't wait for you to tune in and hear all about it and stay tuned for a full episode on my labor and birth story after this little one is born!! Hey Friend! Have you ever been scared to, make a move...make a change...go a completely new direction...and actually face the hard truth? If that's you or been you then I welcome you to take a seat and listen to my journey through my first network marketing company/MLM that really was a stepping stone in life now that I have the hindsight to see that. I NEVER thought I would leave (does anyone sucked ever think they would? haha) It became an identity but it also became a financial overhead, burnout, and not ideal for our future goals for our family.  I welcome you to listen in to my first time really sharing this in such depth and the sweet story that is near and dear to my heart. My late best friend, Sandi, who I did EVERYTHING with in terms of business and life was the one who took the first big leap and then had the conversation with me to see if I would join her. She cried bc she was scared I wouldn't make the shift with her, but I did bc I trusted her and was having the same struggles she was but wasn't willing to admit them. That was February 2019, fast forward to March 2020 when she passed away from a sudden cancer diagnosis. She left me a gift! I truly believe God prompted her at just the right time to open this door for me to have a NEW and more fulfilling opportunity before she left this world. (insert balling my eyes out) Here I am 4 years later in such a safe and healthy environment that allows me to be ME, dream of a future with my family, and aligns with my values and goals.   May this episode give you a little insight to where I've been and where I am now, my heart behind it all, and to encourage you to take the leap if you've been feeling a nudge. It can be SO scary, trust me, I know. My wish is to see everyone tap into their true and FULL passion and potential but sometimes we are limiting ourselves when we think it's just in this "one place" or can only look 1 way. I believe that things hold different spaces in seasons of our life, different purposes, and are like a stepping stone to get to a more final destination of our calling. Be open to what is being placed in front of you...may my story be a source of hope and connection for you.    Thanks for listening, Gabby    If you liked this podcast and found value here today it would mean a lot if you would hit subscribe and if you scroll down on my show you can leave a rating and review which would mean SO much and help more and more people find this podcast.    Email me with topic ideas at gabby.flater@getrootedinhealth.com   Facebook - Gabriella Flater Rooted In Health Facebook Community  Instagram - @gabby.getrootedinhealth Show Instagram - @getrootedinhealthpodcast Website - Rooted In Health, LLC Email - gabby.flater@getrootedinhealth.com

Hi Friend, "Don't limit your challenges, challenge your limits." That hits deep doesn't it? Our natural tendency as humans is to stay in the known, do what feels good, and stay where it's comfortable. There is nothing wrong with wanting that, but it actually can become unhealthy for us if it always becomes the norm and can ruin our chances of living a FULL life. How do you get uncomfortable??  In this episode I talk about our typical mindset, how & why we must shift it, and how to have the courage to take that step into the unknown.  Most people that continue to stay comfortable are unhappy/miserable most of the time, or just complacent about life. I don't want that for you and God doesn't either!! He asks us to MOVE, LIVE, and SERVE this world and to do that we must get out of our comfort zone, fail, and humble ourselves from time to time.  I know this episode will challenge your thinking and prompt you with some really good questions about your life. Hi friends! Ok, this episode is full of so much passion and current real life experience and I can't wait for you to get your ears on it! I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with our 4th child and I seriously can't believe it. I wanted to bring some solid content that talks about pregnancy and how I have approached it. Today we are really focusing on the things that are constant in my pregnancy journey and I call them my "non-negotiables" since they are just always going to be a part of what makes me feel my best during pregnancy but honestly in every day life whether I am pregnant or not. They are: 1. Move My Body with Intention (not just chasing children) 2. Fuel it with the best food and enjoy my random cravings 3. Hydrate lots! 4. Rest/Sleep I don't want you to feel like once you get pregnant that everything has to go out the window and you'll just get to it after. There is absolutely no reason for that thinking. You can enhance your pregnancy journey by adding in the health and wellness aspect. It's just not going to look the same for every pregnant woman which is why you have to make it your own journey and not compare.  By this point I am definitely beginning to slow down, need less intense workouts, modify how do everyday body movements and exercise, snag some extra sleep when I can, and maybe eat a tad more when I feel the extra hunger kick in. Not every day is perfect. Some days you feel on top of the world and other days you just want to lay on the couch and eat chocolate and that's ok.  Just know that more of your pregnant days could be more pleasant as well as your future pregnancies if you are intentional with caring for your body. You are also setting yourself up for a more positive labor and recovery. Have grace with yourself, this is such a beautiful and miraculous experience that our bodies were designed to do.  I pray this encourages you as you prepare for or are already on your own pregnancy journey. I look forward to bringing more pregnancy related content your way.  -Gabby    If you liked this podcast and found value here today it would mean a lot if you would hit subscribe and if you scroll down on my show you can leave a rating and review which would mean SO much and help more and more people find this podcast.    Email me with topic ideas at gabby.flater@getrootedinhealth.com   Facebook - Gabriella Flater Rooted In Health Facebook Community  Instagram - @gabby.getrootedinhealth Show Instagram - @getrootedinhealthpodcast Website - Rooted In Health, LLC Email - gabby.flater@getrootedinhealth.com
