In last week's episode, I talked about how to forgive yourself when you yell, shame, hurt, or otherwise show up in a way you don't love as a parent. Today, we're talking about what comes next - saying “I'm sorry” and having a repair conversation with your child. You'll Learn:Why saying “I'm sorry” is so important (and why it's only one piece of repair)4-step formula for a repair conversation (with examples)What you need to do before you have this conversation with your kidHow to repair after a longer period of time when you weren't showing up as the parent you want to beIt's normal to lose it with your kid. What's important is how you choose to handle it afterward. ----------------------------------------------You know what this looks like…Your kid keeps complaining about what you're serving for dinner. Or they keep asking for something over and over, even though you already said no. Or they start hitting their sibling while you're trying to make an appointment on your phone. You lose your compassion and patience and get angry, overwhelmed, irritated, or frustrated. You get dysregulated, short-tempered, and disrespectful toward your child. What It Feels Like For Your KidChildren are very self centered. That's their natural way of viewing the world. They're pretty sure the world revolves around them. So when they notice that you're mad, they will automatically think that they are the reason. And further, they'll think that something is wrong with who they are. They don't know how to separate their core self from their behavior yet. They internalize our anger, and it's very easy for them to go into shame. This means that when you yell or get upset, you have to go back and give your child some understanding of why you behaved the way you did. We call this repair. You explain to them that you were in a big feeling cycle, and you didn't use your tools of taking a pause or deep breathing or moving your body or whatever you typically use to calm yourself. The conversation is about repairing your relationship with your child, as well as their self-esteem and internal self-talk (basically your kid's relationship with themself). When To RepairHere are some signs that your child might need a repair conversation with you. You might notice that they:Seem deflatedWithdraw from youLook confused by your face or your behaviorCryRun awayGet more aggressiveWhen you act out your big feelings on your kid, it activates their stress response. They go into fight, flight, freeze, faint, or fawn. Anytime you notice that you've created a rupture, go make a repair. If you're at the beginning of your Calm Mama journey, you'll probably have to do this a lot. You haven't developed the skills yet, and that's okay. You are still learning. Another thing to note is that the repair conversation should happen separately from parenting, limit setting, or correction. You might feel tempted to say something to your kid like, “I'm sorry I yelled, but I wouldn't yell at you if you would just put your pajamas on.” Discussion about your child's behavior is a whole different conversation. You are responsible for how you respond to misbehavior. Repair is the time for you to fix your mistake and reconnect. How To Have a Repair Conversation: Saying “I'm Sorry”Repair is the act of returning to a moment of disconnection, taking responsibility for your behavior, and acknowledging its impact on your child. You caused a problem with your...

In today's show, we’re answering more of your sex questions! This is our third dive into some of the questions that have come through our listener voicemail. I'm going to answer three of them that I thought were super interesting. Our first question is about whether libido is genetically determined, so we'll look at what the science says about the degree to which genetics control our sexual desire. The second question deals with a male listener who has difficulty reaching orgasm, so we'll talk about tips for managing that. Finally, a listener asked about how to boost sexual desire in post-menopausal women, so we'll explore what you need to know about that with an assist from Dr. Mary Jane Minkin, a practicing gynecologist and a North American Menopause Society Certified Clinician. Dr. Minkin was a previous guest on episode 334: How To Have a Happy Vagina. If you have questions you'd like to have answered on the show, you can send me a podcast voicemail of your own at speakpipe.com/sexandpsychology. You can do it from your computer or from your phone, so keep sending those questions in! *** Thank you to our sponsors! How To Have an Empty Calendar Scott's Daily Boost Show Notes — A letter I received about 10 minutes ago… “When you showed us your calendar a few weeks ago, I noticed how bear it was. You hadn't time blocked your podcast recordings, checking emails, calling friends, date night, learning time, developing course materials, Marketing activities, etc. I assumed you should time block every area of your life to ensure you achieve balance.” I believe work-life balance is a myth. Isn't every minute of the day the same? There are no work, play, happy or sad minutes—there are only minutes. I don't need to balance them because they are all the same. Since I have a pre-determined way that I want to live my life, it doesn't matter when I do it. Having said that… Having a calendar that it booked every 10 minutes is one of the most stressful things I can think of having. I would bet it's the biggest reason people get burned out or retire. In my view, a calendar's only job is to serve as a reminder system for any of those minutes that will involve other people — and not even all of those. I don't know about you, but I don't need a reminder to go on a date night with my wife. I know some people say you should schedule time for yourself on your calendar to ensure you get things done. But it seems to me I shouldn't have to schedule my own time — since is MY time. I should have a clear understanding of the life I want to live, what I need to do, and the discipline to get it done—in the space between those pesky appointments. Let me be clear. I absolutely have days of the week and hours of the day that I broadly dedicate to things like work, play, learning, and relaxing. Within those large blocks, I look at my task list and decide, based on Due Date and Priority, what I need to focus on that day. When that's done, I'm done. Larger projects are no different. I simply look ahead to the days and hours I have available, set the Due Date for those times, and when that day arrives, get it done. Is that time-blocking? No. There's no need to block my time because it's already mine. All of my time is my time. I guard it, ensure I know what I need to do, and have the discipline to do it as quickly as possible. I strictly control the time that others are taking. If I don't, I won't have more time. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In the competitive landscape of service-based businesses, offering packages that stand out and meet clients' needs is crucial. However, many service providers find themselves stuck in a cycle of constantly tweaking their packages without a clear purpose. Today we are talking all about how to create purposeful service packages that deliver results and drive profitability.Topics Covered In This Episode:1. Creating packages with purpose involves focusing on providing everything necessary for client success without overwhelming them.2. It's important to weed out anything that clients don't actually need in order to be successful, distinguishing between essentials and nice-to-haves.3. Add-ons such as custom dashboards or funnel audits can increase the value of the package and cater to clients who want a little extra and can also help business owners with decision fatigue..4. Identifying your "onlyness factor" and showcasing what sets you apart can help make your packages more unique and attractive to potential clients.5. Avoid constantly adding new items to your packages as a reaction to raising prices; instead, focus on the essential elements for success.6. For ad managers specifically, a core package should include everything necessary for success and shouldn't change based on whether the client has their own copywriter or graphics person.7. By creating packages with purpose, you can streamline your business and attract clients more quickly, serve your clients at the highest level and increase your contract rates without offering multiple different packages.8. We offer a live training for those interested in learning more about setting up a successful ad management business and scaling to 6-figure months with a small number of clients.Loved This Episode? In a recent episode of the podcast, we discuss a game-changing strategy for ad managers to elevate their services and provide valuable results for their clients. I emphasize the importance of implementing a money-making funnel, revealing that by doing so, ad managers can charge more, retain clients for longer periods, and make insightful decisions for audience targeting.Topics Covered In This Episode:1. The key to charging more and retaining clients longer as an ad manager is to implement a money-making funnel for clients that generates revenue within 30 days, making you look desirable and valuable to the client.2. Finding the right audience of buyers rather than just generating cheap leads for clients can help create more sustainable income and create a strong strategy for your clients.3. It is important to differentiate between money-making funnels and a client's bread-and-butter revenue generators.4. Ad managers can add value by suggesting or creating low-ticket offers for clients' money-making funnels to cover ad spend and build a list of potential high-ticket buyers.5. Implementing money-making funnels for clients can increase the ad manager's value, client retention, and business consistency.6. Ad managers can transition from a technician role to a strategist role by advising and strategizing with clients on money-making funnels and audience targeting.7. The Strategist Society is a program focused on helping ad managers and digital marketers transition into strategist roles, providing current strategies and support.Loved This Episode? Hi Friend, "Don't limit your challenges, challenge your limits." That hits deep doesn't it? Our natural tendency as humans is to stay in the known, do what feels good, and stay where it's comfortable. There is nothing wrong with wanting that, but it actually can become unhealthy for us if it always becomes the norm and can ruin our chances of living a FULL life. How do you get uncomfortable?? In this episode I talk about our typical mindset, how & why we must shift it, and how to have the courage to take that step into the unknown. Most people that continue to stay comfortable are unhappy/miserable most of the time, or just complacent about life. I don't want that for you and God doesn't either!! He asks us to MOVE, LIVE, and SERVE this world and to do that we must get out of our comfort zone, fail, and humble ourselves from time to time. I know this episode will challenge your thinking and prompt you with some really good questions about your life. I challenge you to not be afraid to fail because without failure you will never grow. Things had been rocky for awhile, but she always assumed they'd live the rest of their lives “unhappily ever after.” Now Bernadette is facing an uncertain future, wondering how she's going to navigate her new life socially, emotionally, and financially. On this episode of How To!, we bring on Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, author of Light on the Other Side Of Divorce: Discovering the New You, and host of the podcast The Divorce Doctor. Hard conversations are often awkward and uncomfortable, but are necessary in life. Any conversation or situation that promotes self reflection, awareness and empathy, will help us on our journey of growth and evolution. These challenging experiences create tools in our minds. Tools that are then used in the process of healing. On this week's episode, Chris and Amy talk about when and how to approach hard conversations. In particular, the task of pushing aside your fears for the sake of being authentic and maintaining integrity, using one of the main principles of A Course in Miracles. Forgiveness. Dr. Faryal Michaud is a board certified internist and a palliative care physician that is here today to discuss How To Have a Better Conversation About Your Health. She believes there is a misunderstanding of what palliative care is. She describes this type of care as a layer of support to help through the bumpy road of an illness, and to help families be able to connect to services. The layer of support is different for every patient and their family. And, only if the bumpy road is too much, then hospice would get involved, but that is not the palliative care role. She stresses the importance of understanding what the patient and family knows, and what it is that they want to do. She talks about the -Wish, Worry, Wonder Guide. This model can be explained by saying - I wish you could get better, then worry about the type of care that the patient can get and if they will improve, and then finally, wonder if we should have a conversation about this. Dr. Faryal Michaud has been practicing inpatient palliative care medicine for the past 10 years which she believes is her true passion. Around the time of COVID, and having moved to Hawaii with her husband and two teenage daughters, she felt incredibly isolated and decided to start a podcast focusing on teaching patients and physicians how to have difficult conversations surrounding end of life issues. Her podcast, “Write Your Last Chapter” has been popular domestically and internationally, creating further evidence that this topic is both poorly understood and deeply needed. She then decided to start “Physicians Living Intentionally” to focus on what matters as well as provide a space for poetry and reflection. In 2021 she started her business of life coaching for women physicians focusing on teaching how to live intentionally every day. As a certified mindfulness teacher, her program offers ongoing teachings by certified yoga, and mindfulness teachers, as well as group and one on one coaching. She also provides pro bono coaching for patients suffering from serious illness who are unable to afford her services. She has created a simple 3 step guide to have difficult conversations that can be applied to clinicians as well as moms everywhere on her website: www.drfaryal.com. Dr. Hammerstedt and her lifestyle coaching team can be found at www.wholisthealth.com and @wholisthealth on Facebook and Instagram as well as the Facebook group Curate Your Health.
