It's been almost a year since I've released an episode and since then we've moved across the country, bought and renovated a house (well, it's still in progress!), birthed a baby, and welcomed another furry member to our family. I also released my first spoken word song. I've been hearing very strong inner guidance whispers to come back to the podcast. On the earthly plane, I've also experienced incredible synchronistic meetings and conversations that have pointed to the same thing… “get back to the mic!” I share some of these stories in this episode. So I'm following the guidance. In this comeback episode, let's catch up on life: I share the most memorable bits of my journey from last summer (when we drove across the country to move to the West Coast) to now, as I'm feeling a completion of my postpartum stage and feeling a new way of being, loving and expressing emerging within the expanded constellation of our family. When transport company owners, Ella Reindler and her husband Dave, set out on ‘one last trucking trip' from Perth to the remote Kimberley, they knew it would likely be their last road trip together as a couple, before their new baby arrived. But nobody expected that, at just 35 weeks pregnant, Ella's waters would break in the middle of nowhere and hundreds of kilometres away from any medical care. What followed was an anxious overnight long haul to the nearest hospital, with a very pregnant Ella behind the wheel. ************** Thanks so much for listening to the Flying Doctor Podcast. Want to learn more about surrender? Can you really pivot late in the game and switch to homebirth? Can you have a homebirth after having 2 c-sections? I talked to Audrey Stinson today about her story of having 2 c-sections and switching to a homebirth midwife at 33 weeks, decision making, how to surrender our birth desires to Jesus and how that's different then “going with the flow”. We talk about how to fire a provider and give you permission to pivot to follow the dreams that the Lord has put on your heart. This episode is so so good and I know that there is a special message specifically for someone out there. I believe this will be the confirmation someone needs to just say YES to the dream God has put on her heart to homebirth no matter how crazy it may seem at the moment. We can plan our ways but the Lord will establish our steps. Amen! Listen to Part 1 and Part 2 will follow soon! Audrey went to Texas Tech University and has a Bachelor's Science in Nursing. She is a self proclaimed former scorner of homebirth turned #1 hype girl. She's loves Jesus and it is apparent in this episode that everything she does is to bring Him glory. She's a wife, homemaking homeschooling mama to 4! Her wisdom is apparent in this episode and I know you're going to love our conversation just as much as I did! Monica Snyder shares a very emotional story about going undercover in a late-term abortion facility in Washington DC while being 28-weeks pregnant. She talks about what was harder than she expected and the perspective she gained about the employees at the clinic. She also helps Josh understand some things he had never heard about some post-abortive women, and responds to the most frequently asked questions and challenges from both sides of the abortion debate regarding this video. Editor's note: As you may remember from a previous editor's note, we had technical problems on this recording day that went undiagnosed until later because I didn't think we needed to wear the headphones this time. I did the best I could to fix it, but it's way below my standards. Thank you for your patience. Quick update of my week and entering 21 Weeks of Pregnancy
Yes! You read that right, 43+ weeks pregnant and, true story, a news crew capturing the whole experience for the local news! In this episode I am joined by my husband, Matt Mccoy to share the story of our 3rd birth. This was my first birth after having become a birth professional. It was my longest pregnancy and birth process, but also the birth I consider my easiest birth (although, postpartum was a completely different story. But, that's a story for a different day!).This story is really a journey into trust and intuition. Something I consider crucial throughout pregnancy and especially when due date arrives.Listen in as Matt and I talk through making decisions that were right for us, especially as we went weeks past our guess date. How important the “bubble of peace” was in remaining calm and confident. And, what Matt as a birth partner did to help keep both of our nervous systems from going into fight or flight mode.I discuss the ways I visualized this birth to go (I wanted it to be LONGER than the last ones! Yes you read that right.) and how it actually played out in reality. I touch on birth at 43+ weeks after becoming a birth professional. I was now teaching exercises and childbirth classes. How did this impact my experience, birth choices, etc.? Can knowing more about the ins and outs of birth make us more confident or more nervous during the whole process? Where is the fine line? On this episode, you'll hear mom of 2, Shauna Parisi, share her wildly different birth experiences. In this episode we talk about: changing providers late in pregnancy (twice!), precipitous labor, spirituality in birth, and so much more.Plus, Megan answers a listener question about losing confidence in your ability to give birth at home late in pregnancy.Going into her first birth, Shauna planned to give birth in the hospital and her birth plan included just one line: “Avoid a c-section.” Anything else was fair game. She wound up being induced and giving birth vaginally with an epidural. As she entered into her second pregnancy, Shauna was fully prepared to give birth again in the hospital, and actually hoped she would be induced again so she could plan when her baby would be born. However; in her third trimester, Shauna took a birth course and discovered that perhaps she didn't want to be induced after all. And, in fact, wanted to pursue an unmedicated natural birth at home. A month before she was due, Shauna changed providers and started planning a home birth.Tune in to hear her incredible story of a precipitous labor (only 2 hours long!) preceding her home birth.Be sure to subscribe to the No Fear Home Birth Podcast on your favorite podcast app to be notified when new episodes are available.Fear-Releasing Journal Prompts: https://bit.ly/fear-releasing-prompts Let's get social! Meet Amelia Rivera-Wong, DPT by day, badass endurance athlete, wife to Andy, and new mom to her beautiful son Cameron all the rest of the time. Amelia's competitive drive was forged as a kid doing crunch competitions with her twin before bedtime and spending long hours at their town community pool. Her mom ran 3 NYC marathons—one for each of her daughters—and that left an indelible mark. All those pool hours prepared her to swim D1 in college and led her to triathlon—where she signed up for an Ironman at Lake Placid on a dare—completing her very first marathon to finish in a monsoon. Her hardcore, badass credentials were fully established. But when she qualified for her 1st Boston—and subsequently got pregnant and calculated the timing—she knew she was in uncharted waters. It felt like she was going down a rabbit hole. Seemingly everyone with no medical creds had an opinion on what was 'safe' or could potentially harm her baby. Even some of the medical advice didn't make sense and she ultimately decided to follow the same rule she tells her patients as a DPT and as a runner: "listen to your body." She found a sherpa on Facebook who shared her marathon running pregnancy journey and exchanged tips on finding a good pelvic floor PT, taping, belly braces, and even some advice on the Boston course. She kept her circle super small and found a local training partner to lean on and travel to the start line with. Amelia ran Boston at 31 weeks pregnant, had an incredible experience, and got it DONE with baby Cameron in tow. (I think he deserves a medal, too!) I am so grateful for Amelia coming on, being so open, and sharing the emotional roller coaster of her experiences so candidly. We took a deep dive into the challenges of breastfeeding, how she cross-trained and tried to mitigate injuries, and postpartum running. Amelia is now sharing her experiences on Facebook with other moms to help pay it forward. For every mom-to-be or mom with children already who might be facing this decision, there are so many lessons to unpack in this episode. Please share with anyone that you think this could help! Celebrating 1 year of Episodes! As a busy working mama (of almost 2), I am humbled and grateful to have the capacity, time, space and support to do what I love - which is being in service. Fertile at 40 Podcast has been an evolution over the last 49 episodes; what was once simply a space to share the wisdom of healers and the tools I have learned from over the years as I healed from an eating disorder, addiction, sexual trauma and more; has become a space to get raw and real about fertility, pregnancy loss, and what peaceful parenting is truly all about. All with a plant medicine inspired spin. This platform is such a gift for myself - a space for me to share what I want, how I want to; but also it has become a safe place for others to speak their truths, heal through vulnerable sharing, and feel the support of others on this same path into and through Matrescence. Today I riff a bit on some things that are potent for me right now; including: My 32 weeks at age 41 pregnancy update What "The New Mama Codes" are about And how I am ready to support you more through my special community launching in June!
