Simple reflections during extraordinary times. A thought-provoking podcast focused on keeping positive, remaining humble and life lessons. Lindy’s motto is “Smiles Come in all Languages and in all Colors”.
Boundaries begin with me, and this year I am trying to stay focused and on track. For that to happen, I need to set boundaries. Boundaries are not selfish, in fact, sometimes they are necessity for time management and personal wellbeing. In this episode, I talk about setting boundaries. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Links are in the show notes. Encore and beyond - let the show begin! Unscripted, speaking from the heart and I have returned to the podcast chair! Airing my thoughts as I head into the new year, and will be back with a new show, perhaps less often but still going! Today's episode is really me getting my feet wet again with the mic, speaking what is on my mind and thinking of ways I can do better for myself and for others in the new year. I'm a Gen X self-taught hobby podcaster, and I appreciate you taking the time to listen. My final recording in this series. It's been fun, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to listen. Episodes will remain online for the duration of 2024. "Smiles Come in All Languages and in All Colors". https://www.lindysaudiocafe.com/
What happens on the road stays on the road, right? Not always! After a brief hiatus from recording, I am back after 6,500 km's of road travel from BC to Yukon. It was quite a journey, and if I had more time, I'd share more stories. In today's episode you will hear my perspective of travel from Vancouver Island to the beautiful Yukon Territory. During travel I went for almost 5 days with no cell coverage, no internet and no use of electricity. I saw moose, porcupine, bison, deer, caribou, mountain goats, black bears, fox, coyotes and of course, our 13 year old poodle. It's amazing how a journey back to basics can rejuvenate your inner soul. This full length episode includes a musical interlude at the shores of Toad River, and a chat with a traveler from Lansing Michigan who shared the story of his flute. *Disclaimer: This is a hobby podcast. My thoughts are shared from my viewpoint and are not intended to solicit or discourage travel options. Suitable for adults due to a couple slips of "road travel" words. We all have a toolbox, or our "kit bag" full of tricks and things we have learned over the years. Sometimes we go through life using the wrong tools, and it makes the job harder. When we have the right support systems in place, whether it is physical tools or people, life is that much easier with more chance of success. In today's episode I talk about times when I took on tasks without the right tools, and also share my own experience with teaching others. Life is a one big learning curve, and each lesson we learn adds to our toolbox.AUDIO EPISODES: https://www.lindysaudiocafe.com*FACEBOOK GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lindysaudiocafepodcast*SUPPORT THE SHOW - Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lefhxiyfb*LISTENER FEEDBACK: https://form.jotform.com/241555054321044Courtesy Link:Here's a helpful tool - check out The Little Password Book. Life is a journey of goals and accomplishments. Buckets lists are a great way to forge ahead, overcome personal challenges and plan for happy moments. Whether it remains a dream or you have the joy of reaching a goal, bucket lists can bring a lot of joy. A key to keeping it happy is to keep it realistic without pressure. I brought a creative touch to this episode, as we travel on the Flight of Life. Sit back, relax, put on some earbuds and enjoy the ride. It's a shorter "flight" on this episode, but one with plenty to think about. Thanks for tuning in! Putting yourself down is not a means of being humble, it can actually cause poor self-esteem and convince yourself you are not worthy. It's ok to find joy in your accomplishments, and they don't always have to match what the person is doing next door. In this episode I talk about staying positive, accepting compliments, promoting self-esteem with people around us and simply finding the good in what you do and others do. Newspapers and journalism have played a every important part in our lives. We are fortunate to have many dedicated people who work so hard to ensure we have knowledge of local, national and international events. Our method of receiving news is always changing with technology, but one thing that will never change is the real people behind the stories and voices. In today's episode I touch base on how much newspapers meant to me when I was growing up, and I share my gratitude for the people who work tirelessly to share important events. I also reflect on how fast stories can change if they are not told correctly, and give tribute to my friends at a local newspaper in my hometown where they are moving in new directions after 124 years in business. I am grateful to be back in the podcast chair today, and happy to be walking without crutches. In today's episode I chat about how I am finding myself thinking more about how we can help others, yet maintain a safe distance at the same time. When we are out and about doing errands, day to day life, we run into all kinds of personalities and situations. Until we have walked in someone's shoes, we simply can't imagine what they are going through, and sometimes we need to use our best judgment and know when to help, and when to walk away.AUDIO EPISODES: https://www.lindysaudiocafe.com*FACEBOOK GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lindysaudiocafepodcast*SUPPORT THE SHOW - Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lefhxiyfbThis podcast is not intended to provide any legal, medical or personal advice, and is recorded for fun and entertainment purposes only. Curveball - can you catch it? Yup - I caught it and I'm ready to kick it in the butt, with the good foot, that is. Yup, this little old podcaster found herself in a bit of a pickle this past week and is now sporting the most elegant looking boot with styling crutches. Ok, a little exaggeration, but I have been off my foot for a week and I'm learning a lot about how much I took for granted. Perhaps this is a humbling experience for me, and it may help me to once again question if life lessons keep happening for a reason. I realize now that I took so much for granted, and it gives me so much more admiration for the strength of people who are dealing with much more serious situations.AUDIO EPISODES: https://www.lindysaudiocafe.com*FACEBOOK GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lindysaudiocafepodcast*SUPPORT THE SHOW - Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lefhxiyfbThis podcast is not intended to provide any legal, medical or personal advice, and is recorded for fun and entertainment purposes only. Tea can be daily routine, cultural tradition or simply a great reason to relax, sip and snack. I attended a Mad Hatter themed tea party in April, and it was so much fun. Although I was a vendor on the market side, I discovered first hand just how much the tradition of tea is celebrated differently. There's more to afternoon tea than just tea, and believe me, I tasted a few of those desserts and it was sooo worth it. I dressed up in costume and took the opportunity chat with guests and other vendors. Of course if peaked my curiosity, and I wondered about the tea habits of my friends in the UK. *In this episode I talk about the Mad Hatter Tea Party event, touch base with the organizer to hear what inspired her, and even follow up with 4 lovely ladies from UK who give us a sneek peek at what tea means to them. *This is a nice, relaxing podcast episode. You may even want to pour a "cuppa", and relax while you listen. A little positive boost is always a good way to wrap up the day.*My sincere thanks to Lori Ball from the Comox Valley Home Based Business Association, my UK friends Lynne Webster, Nikki Talbot, Lyndsay Williams and Maureen Chadwick, and everyone who took the time to share stories or allow me photo ops at the event. Life is a balancing act, and often we discover that what is priority for us may not be of importance to another. Life brings lessons in many different ways. This past week I worked hard to prepare for a craft show, and unfortunately it was not well attended. At the end of the day, I still had a great time. The time that I spent getting to know the other vendors was worth so much more, and I will always have great memories of this past weekend. When we are gracious with an attitude of gratitude, it's amazing how much we can see things in a different light. In this episode I share what I was able to take from this experience, and I will continue to try to find this focus as I move forward to my next chapter. It's amazing how our view on the kaleidoscope of life can be amazing when we use a positive lens. I am a creative thinker, and maybe a bit on the quirky side. I recognize my creative thoughts don't work on a 9-5 schedule. When the urge to write short stories, poetry or a podcast hits, I simply need to stop and get that creative urge out of the way so I can better focus on projects around me. Most creatives understand this scenario, and it can present challenges when balancing creative moments with responsibility. In this episode I had a wonderful discussion with Lisa Zawrotny, the founder of Positively Productive Systems and the host of the Positively Living Podcast. Together we talk about the challenges of a creative mind, methods to prioritize while allowing the inner artist to blossom. If you are a "creative", you will likely relate to this and if not, it may help bring some understanding to the creatives in your life. *AUDIO EPISODES: https://www.lindysaudiocafe.com*FACEBOOK GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lindysaudiocafepodcast*SUPPORT THE SHOW - Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lefhxiyfb COURTESY LINKS:Episode Guest: Lisa Zawrotny, Productivity Strategist & Accountability CoachPositively Productive Systems https://positivelyproductive.com/about-me-2/Support the show
There are times in business when people make mistakes. It happens, and it's life. People are humans and humans make mistakes. Quite often people have a different reaction tomistakes, whether from the business perspective or the customer view. Either way, presentation and response can make a big difference on the final outcome. Sometimes we are faced with a situation and don't have time to think, and may find ourselves second guessing our own reaction. Either way, kindness on both sides can go a long way in mending a difficult situation.*Audio Episodes: https://www.lindysaudiocafe.com*Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lindysaudiocafepodcast*Support the Show - Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lefhxiyfbThis podcast is not intended to provide any legal, medical or personal advice, and is recorded for fun and entertainment purposes only. Homesick is a term I had almost forgotten about until my recent return to Canada's beautiful Yukon. I was quite surprised at the flood of emotions that targeted my heart on the last day of my trip. A little stroll through my old neighborhood brought back so many memories, and the hugs of my grandchildren and sisters made it really hard to leave. At the same time, I was happy to return to my current home on Vancouver Island. I figured it out. My heart is in two places, and even though I am now an island girl, I will always be a Klondiker at heart.*After recording I thought about all the people around the world who are displaced during times of conflict and war. In the early 1970's, it was common to see newspapers, magazines and posters promoting cigarettes and smoking. As a young girl, I even pretended to smoke with crayons, and followed the example of many adults. In those days, it was promoted as visually attractive to smoke vs today where we know so much more. It's not easy to quit, especially for people who started many years ago. Not easy does not mean impossible. Life gets busy, and times are changing. As we head into the holidays this is a timeto focus on positives, look at what is good and try to advocate for positive changearound us. We are all human and make mistakes, and sometimes we just need to slowdown, breathe and focus on what really matters in life. Welcome Back! After a month of not recording I concluded that I really miss my podcast. Hardly a day goes by where I don't think about it. This is where all the creativity began, and I love sharing positive stories. Sometimes we need to take a break, stop, and look at where we can make changes. I tried to stop recording, but my heart is still here in the podcast. It doesn't change that life got too busy, and I needed to stop, refocus and find new directions. Sometimes if we go back to basics, we discover that there truly is a way. It felt great this morning to go back to my original intro music. I kept the episode short, and spoke from the heart. That's how it began, and this is how I will return. Simple, straightforward and speaking from the heart. *Audio Episodes: https://www.lindysaudiocafe.com*Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lindysaudiocafepodcast*Support the Show: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lefhxiyfb6This podcast is not intended to provide any legal, medical or personal advice, and is recorded for fun and entertainment purposes only. Today's episode was created after a week of reflection. As we head into Thanksgiving weekend, it's important to recognize that although we have many things to be grateful for, it has not always been an easy path for everyone around us. To the contrary, for some people history has left a legacy of trauma and painful memories. It is important to set aside time, reflect and listen to the stories shared by elders in our communities. In today's episode I touch base on many topics, including gratitude, the celebration of Thanksgiving, sadly the impact of the residential schools and the importance of listening, learning and caring. As we talk about celebrations, it is important to acknowledge where they began, and move forward with respect and compassion. *This podcast is created in Comox, BC. Garden therapy comes in many forms. From artistic design to digging in the dirt, working in a garden can have so many benefits. In today's episode I went out on location, toured an amazing community garden and learned so much about it's history, tips and tricks and the value of the volunteer hours behind the scenes. Discover the hidden gems of the gardens, including the meditation garden, allotments for public rental, and the breathtaking rose garden. But our exploration doesn't stop there – we'll also dive into the Courtyard, the Garden Cottage, and the Loop, each with its own unique story to tell. Most important out of all of this is the value of dedicated and kind-hearted volunteers, working behind the scenes for the enjoyment of our community. This podcast is not intended to provide any legal, medical or personal advice, and is recorded for fun and entertainment purposes only. A simple walk with my dog led me to creating this episode. On my walk, I noticed multiple cigarette butts on the side of the road. It is dry outside, and we have experienced drought conditions here for months on end. I could faintly smell the smoke coming in from outlying areas, and had to abort my "walk n' talk" episode because I became a little winded. With forest fires raging in parts of western Canada, I found myself thinking about all the people who were recently forced to leave their homes. I sat down in my back yard, reminiscing of a time when I flight attended on northern aircraft in the 1990's and worked during a community evacuation. I thought about how grateful I am for the safety of family and friends. I am a podcaster and this is what happens : one thought leads to another and soon I was recording an unplanned episode.*My thoughts are with everyone who has been evacuated from their communities due to the fires, and especially with people who have lost their homes. This podcast is not intended to provide any legal, medical or personal advice, and is recorded for fun and entertainment purposes only. Prepare to be whisked on a journey down memory lane! I'm inviting you to hear about my experience at the biggest car show I've ever witnessed, where over 500 vintage beauties graced the Comox Valley. Imagine strolling between rows of automotive wonders, their vintage interiors exuding the scent of the past. I was reminded of my sister's first car, a Plymouth, and the thrill of owning a Stingray Corvette when I was a teenager. But it wasn't just about the cars themselves. Oh no, it was about the stories behind each one, the nostalgic feelings they elicited, and the passionate individuals who brought them to life. This podcast is not intended to provide any legal, medical or personal advice, and is recorded for fun and entertainment purposes only. Remember, every drop counts, and it's time we all start counting.Moving inside the confines of our homes, we uncover the potential for water conservation that lies within our everyday chores. Shelly McKee loves riding bicycles. It is her life and she is grateful for every moment she has. Shelly does not give up, and there are not many people out there who can tell you they rode their bike to work in -52 below 0 temperatures. Riding a bike is not a race for Shelly these days, and she is happy to be out there enjoying the fresh air and natural surroundings. It wasn't always that way for Shelly. For several years she was racing and one crash too many took it's toll on Shelly's health and direction. In this episode Shelly shares her story, and reminds us that an attitude of gratitude goes a long way. This has been a week of many inner reflections. Life changes so quickly, and the clock keeps on ticking. The older we get, the more we know. It doesn't mean we know it all though, as we are human and always learning. Hindsight is always 20-20, and real people make real mistakes. In this episode Lindy reflects on her memories of high school graduation 39 years ago, and the challenges faced by young people today. A few reminders to seize the moment and live life while you can, no matter what age you are. *This episode was recorded impromptu outside with a cell phone, and you may hear a bird or plane overhead.
