GUEST: Amer Zahr About Amer Zahr: Amer Zahr is an Arab-American comedian, speaker, writer, academic, and adjunct professor at University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. He draws on his experiences growing up as a child of Palestinian refugees, performing and lecturing on topics like politics, society, growing up Arab, Islam, and more. The festival entertained over 2,000 locals and was funded by the US Consulate General in Jerusalem, a branch of the United States Department of State. Amer holds an MA in Middle Eastern and North Africa Studies and a JD (law degree), both from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. His dad wasn't a rich man who could provide for everything, but he tried hard to be great and Bedros learned hard work and commitment from him. His family moved from Russia when he was a young kid. When they moved out to the United States they had to build up from scratch. His dad started a tailoring business and grew it. During that time they had to choose between having electricity and water or food and they needed electricity and water, so they dumpster dove for food. The harsh realities that nobody speaks about as an entrepreneur, as a business owner, are not realities any one wants to live through. You may not have to live out of your car or have to dumpster dive for food, but you will struggle to make money in your venture. Every successful entrepreneur goes through that. Impact cannot be crafted from a prosperous journey - a road full of sunshine and rainbows. It is molded from pain and challenges you face. There was a former grocery store manager that was talking about freedom, choices, and options. The first time that I saw that guy speak he was talking about making $400k / year.
