Filmmaking in the USA
POPULARITY
As we wrap up the year, we've got something a little different in store for you today. We've invited Zach Davis, Bill Turnbull, and McKay Coppins on for a conversation about two Hollywood Films that are making waves. Zach is the executive director of Faith Matters, Bill is one of the founders, and you may remember Mckay from his previous episodes. He's a New York Times bestselling author and staff writer at the Atlantic. They're joining us today for a deep dive into two films-- Heretic, the dark thriller about two sister missionaries lured into a man's home by his feigned interest in their faith and become trapped in his sinister and malevolent plot -- and Conclave, which takes us into the heart of the Vatican during the election of a new pope. It's a gripping drama filled with politics, power, and ultimately, divine mystery. Both films explore profound questions about belief, choice, and the human longing for transcendence. In an era often skeptical of organized religion, these movies take faith seriously and, in their own ways, seem to reaffirm the relevance—and beauty—of spiritual truth. This was a rich and thought-provoking conversation, so whether you've seen these movies or not, the questions explored in this episode and the insights are going to spark deep, and valuable reflection. With that, let's jump into the discussion!
Only 25 percent of global cybersecurity workers identifies as a woman, according to data from Cybersecurity Ventures. CIO Africa reports that in Hollywood films, cultural depictions of cybercriminals and the cybersecurity experts who protect against their attacks tend to exclude women. The book "Hacker's Movie Guide: The Complete List of Hacker and Cybersecurity Movies" contains hundreds of flicks from 1954 to present, and many of the movies feature female hackers, including Acid Burn aka Kate Libby, played by Angelina Jolie, in "Hackers", the popular 1995 crime thriller. In this episode, host Paul John Spaulding is joined by Steve Morgan, Founder of Cybersecurity Ventures and Editor-in-Chief at Cybercrime Magazine, to discuss. The Cybercrime Magazine Update airs weekly and covers the latest news, interviews, podcasts, reports, videos, and special productions from Cybercrime Magazine, published by Cybersecurity Ventures.

The Color Purple: #Taraji P Henson, Hollywood, Underpaid Actors & Jonathan Majors! #sagaftra #oprah@mrandersonisfullyautoA lot has been going on in the world of Hollywood since the release of The Color Purple. Taraji P. Henson has had much to complain about. During an interview she spoke about on set conditions, respect and unfair pay. She became emotional after she revealed that she feels underpaid for her work. The film industry has its ups and downs. Actors have the challenge of getting roles to make a living. Last year we experienced the Hollywood writers strike. Now there are streaming platforms that impact how actors and filmmakers are paid. Wage disputes have now become a hot topic of conversation. We run a democratic film fund that allows our online community of creatives, film fans, and industry professionals to decide who is most deserving of our support. Submit your film idea, and if the world loves it, we'll help you make it. DCP was co-founded by American Zoetrope (The Godfather Trilogy, Lost in Translation), the independent film company started by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas in 1969 and now run by Roman, Sofia, and Gia Coppola. Through our partnership Zoetrope provides access to a network of film industry luminaries to help guide and support the projects DCP finances. Our goal is twofold: to provide access to Hollywood financing aspiring and first-time filmmakers need, and introduce you to the people who will help you execute it in a professional way. As a nonprofit organization, DCP opens up the film financing world to a daring and passionate new generation of filmmakers and filmgoers, wherever they may be. To express our approach to accomplishing this important mission we have created the first version of The Declaration of Independent Film. We encourage the community to make suggestions and improvements to this approach as the ecosystem matures. DCP strives to empower the community to choose which films get made, effectively creating new keys into the industry which have historically been held by the gatekeepers of Hollywood. By using blockchain technology and Decentralized Pictures FILMCredits also referred to as Decentralized Pictures FILMCoins, our unique digital currency, DCP creates a transparent curation platform and autonomous rewards system in which every participant is accountable to the network. With smart contracts built on a blockchain, DCP delivers a level of trust and transparency never before seen in the film industry. Contributors on our platform may submit and review content as members of a global network and be rewarded for their merit. history DCP is co-founded by American Zoetrope, the independent film company started by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas in 1969 and now run by Roman, Sofia, and Gia Coppola. Zoetrope films have received fifteen Academy Awards, sixty-eight nominations, and many other prestigious accolades. Four Zoetrope-produced films were included in the American Film Institute's top 100 American films. American Zoetrope has constantly embraced the creative possibilities of technology, and is known for orchestrating alternative approaches to filmmaking. AZ continues to build on its rich film history and legendary standards of quality from its headquarters, the historic Sentinel Building in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. DCP is an extension of this ethos, using the cutting-edge technology of today to power the aspirations of Zoetrope's original inception. De Galatée et Pygmalion à She's All That, Princess Diaries et tant d'autres... DescriptionThe world of trailer music evolved composer Kati Falk-Flores' skills beyond her classical training into writing the larger-than-life, cinematic music needed for the promotion of Hollywood's biggest films. From the heartwarming piece used for advertising Disney's Mary Poppins Returns to the dark exploration of humanity used for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Kati's music resonates with audiences for its “powerful role in storytelling” and has won both CLIO and Golden Trailer Awards. While trailer music has given Kati well-earned skill in writing orchestral-hybrid music, emotive storytelling takes the front seat for both her concert works and music for media, just as it did in the violin-feature orchestral work Awakening, commissioned in 2015.Currently, Kati balances composing trailer music with writing music for indie film projects.
