Bill Althaus has been a household name in Kansas City, specifically Eastern Jackson County for nearly 40 years as a sportswriter for The Examiner. He's the first print member honored by the Simone Award Committee. He was the first media member inducted into the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Hall of Fame. He's covered every Kansas City Royals postseason game, including four World Series. He's traveled for away games with the Kansas City Chiefs. Bill has also been the host of the Sonic Locker Room Radio Show with 18 area high schools for 15 years. Aside from the extensive coverage of many local teams inside Eastern Jackson County, Bill covers every game for the Kansas City Mavericks and Kansas City Comets. Over the 40+ years he's been a sports journalist, he's had personal relationships with some of the most notable sports figures in Kansas City: George Brett, John Wathan, Albert Pujols and many more. Bill has been blessed with many amazing experiences during his professional career and he's so good at articulating them, making for some great compelling stories. In fact, Bill also interned for Geraldo Rivera at ABC in New York City when he was a sophomore in college at Northwest Missouri State. From the outside, it would appear that Bill was living his best life. But what many haven't known over many years was the turmoil he and his wife (Stacy) were battling inside because they were the parents of a son (Sean) they loved very much, who was addicted to drugs. From opioids and heroin to cocaine, their son overdosed and died 3 times and survived by resuscitation. The good news is, Sean is doing fantastic today and has been clean for 3 years after succumbing to addiction for 16 years. Bill's testimony is powerful and offers the perspective from a parent of an addict. So much heartbreak, exhaustion and post traumatic stress. If you're a sports fan, you're naturally going to love this episode but it also provides substance for anyone who's battling addiction and/or anyone who has a loved one who's an addict. https://www.examiner.net/ Watch this episode on Spotify or YouTube. You might recall in Episode 31 with John "Iron Man" Cantrell, we reference his dear friend, Rachel Holthaus "The Hope Dealer". WOW! This woman is a living miracle. When you hear about her accident, it's absolutely remarkable that she's still alive. Rachel comes to The PRP from Topeka, KS. Rachel and Ronnie met through at a boxing event in Topeka, same boxing event where John Cantrell was fighting. Rachel was introduced to Ronnie by his old friends from Marysville, KS...Matt & Tiffany McManis. Rachel's story has a few twists and turns but the short of the story is...she battled substance abuse for many years to mask a variety of physical and emotional pain over the years. The substance use eventually got out of control to where she had a failed suicide attempt that left her very critically injured. But she lived! And through all of that she has reconnected with her christian faith and is now using her testimony to share love and hope to as many people as possible. WARNING: During the discussion of her failed suicide attempt is graphic and may be difficult to listen. However, we feel it's important to hear the trauma she endured to understand the magnitude of the miracle she is today. https://rachelthehopedealer.com/ Watch this episode on Spotify or YouTube. Former Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback, Trent Green joins us for Episode 33 of The PRP! We were limited to about an hour with Trent so we tried to pack in as much as we possibly could. Trent was drafted in the 8th Round in 1993 Draft to the San Diego Chargers and cut after one year. Shortly after that, he joined the Canadian Football League with the BC Lions in 1994 and was later cut again after one year. He gets another shot in the NFL with the Washington Redskins (now known as the "Commanders") and outside of one pass thrown in 1997, he would not see NFL action until 1998. It was 1999 when he signs with the St. Louis Rams to be the starter, but suffered a gruesome season-ending knee injury in a preseason game on a hit by Rodney Harrison of the Chargers. Unheralded backup Kurt Warner took over for Green, and led the Rams to a 13–3 season, culminating in a dramatic 23–16 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV. Trent would land in Kansas City for the 2001 season and would spend a total of 6 season with the Chiefs. In 2006, he suffers a serious concussion in the 3rd Quarter of the first game of the year against the Cincinnati Bengals and would remain out until mid November. It was the next year in 2007, Trent played for the Miami Dolphins where in early October he suffered another serious concussion. In this episode we discuss the "Trials & Triumphs" during those 15 years in the NFL. He shares a lot of insight about the NFL as a business and his experience to overcome obstacles. We learn about his relationships with Hall of Famers, Dick Vermeil and Kurt Warner. And he shares how he got into broadcasting, where he is currently teamed with Kevin Harlan for NFL Games on CBS. There is no doubt that Trent is a person of high-character and it was not only informative, but also very enjoyable to talk to him. Watch this episode on Spotify or YouTube. NOTE: Due to operator error...there is no video for this episode until the 48:36 mark. Our apologies. If you live in the Kansas City metro, there's a good chance you've see KC Superman, Michael Wheeler run (literally) the streets of Kansas City. Michael even takes his Superman character on the road to impact many across the country. As a devoted Christian, Michael uses his radical image to bring glory to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In this episode, Michael explains his upbringing. He's the son of a pastor and family member of a strong foundation in Christian faith. He explains when he was saved by Christ after being wrongfully accused of assault while serving in the military. At the same time, he was going through a divorce. He was drafted into the military towards the tail end of the Vietnam crisis, leaving behind his wife and young son. After being saved by Christ, it became his mission to take the ministry to the streets. From the drug infested areas of Kansas City to the gang controlled streets of Compton, California, Michael has surrendered his personal fear to the Lord in effort to spread the Good Word. He's been beaten with a pipe, hit over the head with a board and even stabbed. Even after all that, he has no fear. He seeks large crowds like KC Chiefs & Royals games and even travels to the Super Bowl each year. You'll be blown away to know how many marathons he's run. At the time of recording (3/14/23), Michael is 72 years old and still going strong to offer love, peace and prayer to whomever he meets. You may (or may not) be surprised to hear him explain the many times he's been arrested for his efforts. You'll also learn of his commitment to Christ with the things he does when people aren't looking...like running the Super Bowl victory parade route over and over in the middle night, as he prays continuously during his run that the Lord will bless the Kansas City streets and everyone who comes hours later to celebrate. It's a very intriguing discussion and we're most grateful for his prayer over our podcast at the end of the episode. He found it however, even after finding acceptance with a good circle of people, demons began surfacing in his life. Normally I would type a very detailed description about each episode. However with this episode, it's important to know that John had addiction to alcohol and drugs and even some gambling issues with his pool game. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, John was saved by Jesus Christ. There is sooooo much to his story that it's nearly impossible to explain in this description. However, his story is fascinating. In and out of substance abuse, reckless gambling, time spent in the federal penitentiary, saved by Christ and father of a incredible son with special needs. From there, this group of people have made efforts to bring awareness to the issues surrounding Human Trafficking, Drug Trafficking, Security, Law Enforcement, Legal, Health, Veterans and Politics. Two weeks ago (from the time this episode was recorded on February 1, 2023), Chuck attended the Lees Summit School Board Meeting with the intent to speak on behalf of the members of We The People of Jackson County, Missouri about the book, "All Boys Aren't Blue", which contains explicit sexual actions. Upon presenting the Board about this book and the content within, he began to read lines from the book which eventually led to a his removal from the meeting by Lees Summit Police because the School Board claimed that the material he was reading to them was "inappropriate" for their meeting. However, 5 of the 7 members on that School Board approved the book for the High School Library. The Papa Ron Podcast wanted to offer Chuck our platform to explain the groups point of view on the matter and show in transparency the exchange between him and the School Board because...the school board streamed the meeting but immediately cut the stream when Chuck began reading lines from the book. However, cell phone video captured what transpired in the meeting after the stream was cut. In effort to provide parents a crystal clear understanding of why this group considers this book to be pornographic material, we ask Chuck to read a few lines from the book. For that reason, we highly suggest that you don't listen to this episode with children inside listening range. In this episode, you'll also learn of the 3 candidates running for this School Board on April 4, 2023, who disapprove of this book residing on the shelf of any Lees Summit School library. Below is a link to join the Private Facebook Page of We The People of Jackson County, Missouri. This episode is mind-blowing! Garen Armstrong is the Executive Director of Shamrock Roofing and Construction. He's also a man who suffered a sinus infection so bad, that the infection went to his heart and damaged it so badly that it required a heart transplant. Because a new heart wasn't readily available, he was the first in Kansas City and likely one of the first 10 in the United States to have an operation to install an Lvad (Left Ventricular Assist Device) that would be worn on the outside of his body, with a wire that would run from the device, through his skin to the apex of his heart to keep the blood flowing through his body in order to keep him alive until a heart was available for transplant. No heartbeat. No pulse. He lived on this device for 3 years before a new heart was available. Garen has had his new heart for 2 years (from the date of recording this podcast) and doing well. Aside from the details of his health scare, Garen gives us his back history in Entrepreneurship, discussing the ups and downs of all his various ventures. He also explains how he got into the roofing industry prior to taking over Shamrock Roofing, which was Owned/Operated by his father before passing from cancer. It was after his father's passing that he took over the family business, grew it exponentially and then at the age 40, suffered the sinus infection that damaged his heart. Through this experience, Garen has grown closer to God in his Christian faith and became passionate in philanthropy by being heavily involved with the American Heart Association, Cars 4 Heroes, sitting on a variety of administrative boards and more. Garen's story is remarkable and it's hard not to hear his story and see the outcome as a miracle from God.  Watch this episode on Spotify or YouTube. The first conversation (Episode 26) was so great and way too short, we had to have Kansas City Royals Radio/TV broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre back for a "Part 2" episode. In this episode, we picked up where with left off in Part 1 with Ryan's recovery from depression/anxiety. My hope was to start there and end with more conversation about the 2023 Kansas City Royals and the organization's proposal of a downtown ballpark. However, once again, we ran out of time. Does this mean we'll have a Part 3? Not confirmed but dang, we sure hope so! In this episode, Ryan offers some insight and clarity to much of what he discussed when he was featured in an interview with Journey Church in Lees Summit. The link to that video is below in this description and I highly encourage you to watch. It's VERY good! Some of the things Ryan talks about in this episode is his relationship with divorced parents as an adolescent and adult, how those individual relationships differed between his Mom and Dad and how that impacted his journey. He talks about seeking an identity as a child and finding that in being the son of a popular Major League player, coach and manager. Ryan shares a lot about his christian faith and the path he's on today. Including the time he spent with the monks at Conception Abbey Monastery in northwest Missouri. From there, he talks a little bit about his dating life but before proposing to his now wife, how he decided to stop dating and dedicate a year and half to "dating God" in order to get on track with his christian walk. Ryan is a fascinating man to listen to and this podcast could have gone on for hours. Ryan is always welcomed back on the Papa Ron Podcast. He is a man who has overcome a lot, through the glory of God and his testimony is an inspiration to all...especially those battling with any form of mental illness. Below you'll also find a Amazon link to his book, "The Shame of Me", that walks readers through his deep struggle with depression in 2005 and how his renew faith in Christ allowed him to overcome. Jillian and I have been looking forward to this episode for months. It all came together on December 28, 2022, as we were thrilled and honored to have Mark Alford in studio for Episode 27 of The Papa Ron Podcast. Back in November, Mark won the election to represent the 4th congressional district of Missouri in the United States House of Representatives. He officially takes office on January 3, 2023. That said, we were very fortunate to get about an hour and 20 minutes of his time. We crammed in a lot during that time, discussing when he came to the decision to run for office, the feeling of "swimming upstream" at the end of his employment at WDAF TV, Fox 4, my (Ronnie) frustration with Washington D.C. "Swamp" (Republicans and Democrats), Mark's approach to uniting the country with a "American First" mentality and we finish up with a deep conversation about an old friend and very popular former Fox 4 TV meteorologist, the late Don Harmon...who took his own life 11 years ago. Although this chat flew by quickly, we really enjoyed everything discussed and look forward to Mark coming back to join us in studio one year from today to talk about his first year as a United States Representative in Congress. Kansas City Royals Radio/TV broadcaster, Ryan Lefebvre joins Jillian Gregg and I in studio for a quick (by Papa Ron Podcast standards) conversation about Ryan's journey in life. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation but if I'm being honest, I was bummed following the end of the episode because we didn't have nearly enough time to discuss everything. Ryan began his career as a MLB broadcaster at the young age of 24 with the Minnesota Twins. At the age of 28, he joined the broadcast team of the Kansas City Royals with Denny Matthews & Joel Goldberg. During that time he has also been partnered with Paul Splittorff, Frank White, Fred White, Jeff Montgomery, Rex Hudler & Steve Physioc. In this episode, Ryan discusses how he got into broadcasting, after a successful college baseball career at the University of Minnesota. Upon arriving to the Royals, he's endured a number of transitions. He shares in-depth about his relationship with Denny, Fred and Rex and the relationship (that turned ugly) between the Royals and Frank White. With little time left in the episode, Ryan discusses his internal struggle with depression and anxiety in 2005 and how he was able to overcome with a renewed walk in his Christian faith. Because we were unable to cover everything we wanted to discuss before Ryan had to leave to pick up his kids, we are already planning a follow-up episode with Ryan in mid January. I really believe this episode could have turned into 5 hours. That being said, I really want to have this guest back in the near future. I'm 47 and he's almost 30 and I feel like I could learn so much from him. But remove all the success and experience as an entrepreneur, he is genuinely an empathetic person with a concern for mental health. You might know this weeks guest from the Fox reality TV show, "Joe Millionaire". For many of us around Missouri, we know him as a serial entrepreneur. His name is Steven McBee! If I'm being honest, the original plan was to bring Steven in to talk about his journey, but also to cover mental health issues with entrepreneurs who are struggling with failure and loneliness. We definitely covered the journey and just skimmed the surface with the mental health struggles. However, we did hit on the importance of personal development and the type of content we consume to help us be the best version of ourselves each day. As someone who's an aspiring entrepreneur, or should I say, aspiring to take the next step and reach a new level, I was really impressed with Steven's mindset and relentless vision. I think this episode could be very inspiring for those who feel trapped in corporate life and would like to step out to create a legacy for themselves, instead of busting their tail to create a legacy for someone else. Steven's talks about a tragic football injury that changed his life, as he had aspirations of playing Division I football. That all came to a screeching halt and that's when he really begin focusing on consuming personal development content through podcasts and being very mindful of his fitness and diet. From there, he was off running to face his biggest fear, flying commercially. So he decided to get his private license to be a helicopter pilot. Steven's first venture in the world of entrepreneurship was building McBee Farms. From there, he invested in rental property arena, later launched Apex Meat Sticks (healthy proteins snacks) and his latest venture is the launch of McBee Car Washes that include a Coffee Shop in each location. Naturally, we end the conversation with the nitty gritty of his appearance on the Fox TV show, "Joe Millionaire". Steven is an open book about that whole process and much the misconception from viewers. Also, he gives us an update with his status with the girls he met from the show. Steven is a very interesting person and I really appreciate his humble nature. I appreciate his vulnerability and openness to discuss his failures, as he believes it's a prerequisite to fail before you succeed in the life of an entrepreneur. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed talking to him. I hope to have him back in the near future to dive more into the intricacies of entrepreneurship. In addition to that, he also hosts his own podcast called "The Chris Stigall Podcast" and another podcast with his wife called "Making The Leap". Preserving and protecting our culture and Constitutional Republic requires informed, steely-eyed voters who aren't easily distracted". Chris, Jillian and I have many things in common. Aside from our conservative views, we each worked at Q104 (KBEQ FM) in Kansas City. In this episode (24), Chris joins Jillian Gregg and I to discuss how he got into radio by being a super fan of The Randy Miller Morning Show. With an overwhelming desire and commitment to do whatever it took to get a shot in radio, Randy took a liking to him and gave him an opportunity to work along side and behind the scenes. Which later exposed Chris' work ethic to Program Director, Mike Kennedy, who later offered him a job out of college at Northwest Missouri State. Upon leaving Q104, Chris remained in the Kansas City market working at a few different stations before leaving for Philadelphia. The title of this episode perfectly summarizes this nearly 3 hour discussion. Aside from talking about his fascinating start to his radio career and the stops along the way, Chris also dives into the current American political climate. From the 2022 midterm elections, to the recent announcement of Donald Trump running for the Presidency in 2024, to the hype of Ron DeSantis and the issues within the Republican party. We close out the show talking about Chris' commitment to his christian faith. In doing so, Chris is vulnerable and open about his battle with anxiety and stress and using alcohol "heavily" (as he put it) to cope but later being freed from daily drinking and now sober for nearly 4 years. Chris is a very talented, smart and well-spoken man with a genuine heart and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. I think you'll enjoy it also. Watch this episode on Spotify or YouTube. On this episode (#23), we learn a little more about Kansas City's "Car Santa", Terry Franz. After buying a small used car dealership, Terry was looking for a creative way to advertise the business. So he decided to partner with the Randy Miller Morning Show on KBEQ Q104 to give away free cars at Christmas. That year, there had been a lot of people looking to purchase a car to only be turned down by credit companies because they were out of work due to medical emergencies, family issues or other circumstances in life. That year around Christmas time, they gave away 6 cars to families that in the past had been denied. A few years later, Terry got out of car business and started Cars 4 Christmas full time, earning him the nickname “Car Santa.” As time would go on, he saw the need in Kansas City increasing more and more and that is where Cars 4 Heroes came from. Now, Car Santa gives away over 300 cars a year just in the Kansas City metro alone. However he has stories about giving away cars in Wichita, KS; Columbia, MO; Omaha, NE; Portland, OR, Los Angelas, CA and now they are working on a division in Tampa, FL. Terry has many stories about how this whole venture began. He also shares a very special story about one of his recipients, bi-lateral above knee amputee, Mandy Horvath. Terry has given away cares with the help of Larry The Cable Guy, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley and many others. My co-host, Jillian Gregg also works for Cars 4 Heroes and joins Terry every Monday morning on Kansas City's Classic Rock Station, 101 The Fox with Slacker, where they give away a car each week. It's remarkable to hear a story of an aspiring entrepreneur, whose life is suddenly changed by accident by doing charity to promote his business. Now, it's his mission to do that charity for the rest of his life, as he's done for the last 27 years. Pastor Phil Hopper is the lead pastor at Abundant Life Christian Church in Lees Summit, MO. This happens to be the church that Jillian and I attend. After a particular sermon back in August, I really began to get a serious tug on my heart to ask Phil to be on the podcast. Reluctantly, I had already been having a tug about using this platform to talk about Jesus but it wasn't until this particular sermon when the tug became a bit more serious. More about that in a minute. Phil Hopper grew up like most midwest boys with a passion for sports and the outdoors, with God fearing parents. In fact, I had the opportunity to bond with Phil during a deer hunt in 2021 with Michael Hunsucker of Heartland Bowhunter. Phil went on to play D-1 football at the University of Kansas. Yes, I had a Jayhawk on my show. HA! Although he grew up in a Christian home, he wasn't living a christian life. However, after a serious auto accident when Phil was coming home from college, it was then when his life changed dramatically. After graduation, he joined the Police Academy where eventually became a member of the Kansas City Police Department SWAT Team. 8 years later, he's the pastor of a church. How in the world does that happen?! Phil's story is very interesting. But as referred to earlier in this description, it was after the last sermon Pastor Phil did on the Book of Daniel (that lays out a timeline of Jesus' second coming), that ultimately inspired me to pursue Pastor Phil to join Jillian and I for an episode. When is Jesus coming back? The Book of Daniel breaks down the "Season" of the second coming and Pastor Phil explains it in this episode. You might be shocked to hear his explanation, which he clearly recognizes as his opinion but he's convinced, based on the facts of the Bible and how over time, the Bible has repeatedly proven that history repeats itself. Very fascinating. There are links below that will direct you to the Abundant Life's series on the Book of Daniel and in particular, the last sermon where Phil breaks down the timeline of when Jesus is coming back. After Randy's departure, she was retained by Q104 to co-host what would eventually become the Q104 Morning Drive with Mike, Zeke & Jillian. After a long run of co-hosting the popular morning show, she eventually walked away. Upon doing so, discussions began about coming back to radio to work for Q104 competitor, WDAF FM - 106.5 The Wolf. In late 2012/early 2013, Tate Stevens embarked on a journey with a reality TV show called X Factor. A journey that would change his life for the good, while presenting some of the toughest challenges in his life. Tate won that singing competition, which rewarded him a $5 Million recording contract with Sony Records. What most don't know is what followed after reaching that level of success. Tate dives into his story that covers his entire musical career and some interesting stories from his time on X Factor. Tate also sets the record straight after some statements made by Travis Marvin in Episode 11, that some might view as controversial. Although we discuss much of his professional career, Tate opens up in vulnerability to share the physical/mental impact of all the highs and lows. My former co-worker and KBEQ FM - Q104 Kansas City radio personality, Jillian Gregg joins me in studio as a special co-host. As always, it's my goal to understand my guest on a more personal level by getting beneath the surface to learn of Tate's journey professionally and personally. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/paparonpodcast/support

We unpack A LOT in this episode. John Barnes has been a good friend for nearly 20 years. The foundation of his business success is the Power of Positive Thinking. John recently launched a "Be Nice" campaign on his TikTok account, @barnseykc. Regardless of your political views, he challenges all of us to love one another. We dive into the topic of corrupt politics and how it's dividing our country and contributing to the growing numbers of those who suffer from mental illness: depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, etc. Although John and I lean conservative, we have some differing opinions on some topics, like the 2nd Amendment versus Gun Control. But the beauty of this conversation is that the ability to speak respectfully and listen with an open mind, in effort to have constructive discussion. We also discuss the destructive influence of social media and 24/7 News Networks on society. The overall message of this episode really challenges all of us to push out toxic content from our lives and get back to a time when we love one another as Americans, despite any political differences, even though it's our belief that the so called leaders in Washington DC want to keep us divided for them to hold significant power. We wrap up the show discussing a couple of organizations that John is involved with to raise money and help battle the serious issue of mental illness. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/paparonpodcast/support

Paul Capozio is from Jersey Shore and an old friend from my days in Network Marketing. Yikes! I just heard all my podcast followers hit the e-brake. HA! Relax and give this episode a chance. We're not trying to sell you anything. In fact, we're here to share our story of failures and the lessons we learned in our journey with Personal Development. Friends, TRUST ME when I say that by simply allocating 20-30 minutes a day in personal development, you'll be amazed at how this will impact your life. Do you hate your job? Are you pissed off all the time? Do you have an career idea or a dream you want to chase and absolutely no idea where to start? Does the idea of getting started actually stop you from starting? The mind is a powerful thing and often it's what tries to protect us from taking a chance on a new level of success. "But what if I fail"? If you're not failing, you're not trying! Paul and I worked closely together and regularly discussed personal development coaching tactics to lift up our teams. I've taken these principles and applied them to my other business ventures and I can say with certainty, I would have been lost without these lessons. And frankly, these lessons apply to anything in life....personal or professional. It's a great conversation that I hope you'll find inspiring and maybe even motivating to help you get into motion against whatever is holding you back. https://paulcapozio.com https://paparonradio.com https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9DBkgVkHNxeOCrcaFo7Czg (Papa Ron Podcast on YouTube) https://www.domaresolutions.com https://www.heartlandwaterfowl.com https://www.youtube.com/c/HeartlandWaterfowl (Heartland Waterfowl on YouTube) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/paparonpodcast/support

Mathew Blades is BACK! If you listened to Episode 1 "Internalizing: The Result", you know my story and the story of Mathew Blades. I invited Mathew on that first podcast after I came across his LinkedIn post in February 2022 that discussed many of his physical symptoms from mental illness. I immediately related to those symptoms, in particular, a very aggressive panic attack. I immediately commented on that post and shortly after we had a lengthy phone call. After that call, I felt some peace knowing I wasn't alone in my struggle and there were others out there who cared and understood the struggle. Mathew was one of the first that I opened up to about my struggle and his empathy and understanding inspired me (along with the encouragement of others) to launch The Papa Ron Podcast. In this episode, I bring Mathew back to discuss the pursuit of Personal Development. Once one identifies they have a mental illness and get past internalizing the issue by talking about it...what's next? We dive into that, in effort that our conversation my bring inspiration to others who feel lost in their journey with depression, anxiety and/or suicide ideation. We also have fun revisiting our old radio days with "Ronnie's Radio Rewind". Mathew is a solid human being with empathy for others and a commitment to mental wellness advocacy. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/paparonpodcast/support

Greg & Missey Smith are the parents of the late Kelsey Smith who was abducted in broad daylight in front of a Target store in Overland Park, KS at 18 years of age and later raped and murdered that day, June 2, 2007. It's been 15 years since that horrific day. Greg & Missey come in studio to celebrate Kelsey's life with fun and funny stories about Kelsey. With incredible strength, they share the events of that day, the 4 days leading up to Kelsey's body being recovered, the details of the killer being apprehended and who eventually pled guilty and the heartfelt, aggressive mission to get the Kelsey Smith Act passed in all 50 states. Greg also discusses his struggle with PTSD after serving as a law enforcement officer for nearly 20 years and tools he has acquired through therapy to recover and find peace. This was not my best performance. I had anxiety to discuss horrific details of their child's murder. By far, the most difficult interview I've ever done, as it was difficult for me to personally remove myself from the emotion of their story, as I couldn't help but view their story as a father of a young daughter. Greg & Missey are very detailed and bluntly honest on every level with this conversation, which I found to be fascinating, informative and often inspiring. I stumbled and mumbled my way through this but I can tell you for certain, it's 100% authentic. And thats always my goal with each show. Daniel holds nothing back when discussing his experiences in combat after serving 10 years in the Marine Corp. He also opens up freely about his struggle with PTSD upon returning to civilian life. Daniel's wife, Kelly also sits in on the show to offer a spouses perspective, which was very insightful and heartwarming. Team Fidelis is an incredible not for profit (501c3) organization that provides community for individuals and families impacted by PTSD. I was thoroughly fascinated with Brazzell's story and I'm grateful for their vulnerability to speak openly about all of the various struggles through the years. I'm also inspired by their commitment to take what they've learned, in collaboration with many other Team Fidelis members to help others who are struggling and seeking to find purpose in life before it's too late.
