That's why Jamin and Hilarie were delighted by its breathtaking views – both from hilltops to inside the mountains themselves. From Old Rag Mountain to Camp Rapidan, this is the same wilderness where U.S. President Herbert Hoover and his wife came to rest and reset during his presidency. Have you ever been some place that felt like home…And then you found out that it kind of WAS? That's what happened to Hilarie when they went to Tennessee. Without realizing it, she was sleeping a few miles away from a family cemetery where her ancestors were buried. It's a new season (“East in the Airstream”) of the Travel FOMO podcast, and Jamin and Hilarie are hitting up new sights across the East Coast. From musical madness of Broadway in Nashville to the quiet solitude of Cedars of Lebanon State Park, Tennessee had a lot to offer the couple. Jamin's lifelong interest in Johnny Cash took them to his namesake museum. And as part of a completely opposite experience, they stumbled across a life-size replica of the Parthenon – just like they saw in Athens, Greece a few months before. S10:E4 – Arizona is beautiful, but it might not be the best place to bring your Airstream during the summer, as we found out the minute we arrived to Lake Powell. S10:E3 – Everything about Zion National Park is extreme, which is right up Hilarie's alley. But the Angel's Landing hike was on another level. Every step was heart-stopping. Worth repeating? Not sure. Then there's a canyon valley trail called The Narrows, where hundreds of people hike with their feet submerged in the cold water of a river. S9:E12 – Big Sur has some big views. But when you're hauling an extra-wide Airstream, it takes some effort to get there. We braved the hairpin curves of the Pacific Coast Highway to make our way to the Big Sur Campground & Cabins. Amidst the classic Bixby Bridge and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, it was the perfect location for us. Tune in to hear about the heavily photographed McWay Falls and the secluded Sand Dollar Beach. S9:E11 – We took a break from the wilderness and decided to take Maggie, our golden doodle, to explore a different kind of National Park: the Golden Gate Bridge and Presidio of San Francisco. We couldn't pass up a chance to see the Palace of Fine Arts and grab some grub at Pier 39. Before exploring more of the city, Maggie got to lay her eyes on Sea Lions for the first time. (She was not a fan.) Meanwhile, Hilarie got to live her childhood dream of searching for Uncle Jessie outside the Painted Ladies houses, where Full House sitcom was filmed. “Whatever happened to predictability?...” To get the full picture, check out the video that accompanies this podcast (S9:E11 Dog-Friendly Day in the Bay | Maggie Moodle Gets a San Francisco Treat
S9:E10 – There's one thing you definitely need when visiting the Redwood National & State Parks: a vehicle. Ironically, our Ford F250 was giving out on us right when we arrived. Meanwhile, Hilarie has a mini-meltdown caused by their ongoing lack of connection to the outside world. Fortunately, we were able to get it fixed, despite being in the middle of nowhere in California. Hundreds of dollars and a new alternator later, we were back in business, discovering the forests, beaches and wildlife of the Redwoods. For more context, check out the video that accompanies this podcast (S9:E10 California Redwoods | Truck Problems in the Middle of Nowhere
S9:E9 – When we checked into Mazama Campground at Crater Lake National Park, we were caught off guard when we realized that our RV site didn't have hookups…at all. How could we have forgotten?! Fortunately, we had a heck of a cliffside view – perhaps the best location in all of Crater Lake. In addition to the stark beauty of the lake, we enjoyed a day trip to Bend, Oregon and a drive through Cascade Lakes. Meanwhile, the mice have struck again! But maybe this time we'll get them once and for all… For more context, check out the video that accompanies this podcast on YouTube (https://youtu.be/-2p6NhIJ-wk) – “Sunrise on Crake Lake (+ a Day Trip to Bend, OR).” Send us your feedback and thoughts via email at travelfomopodcast@gmail.com. https://youtu.be/wLq3DfC0gV4 S9:E8 – With beautiful waterfalls and steep landscape, the Columbia River Gorge serves as the border between Washington and Oregon. Right outside Portland, it's also home to Ainsworth State Park. That's where we RV-ed for a few nights and decided to cycle down the Historic Columbia River Gorge Highway. But it didn't go as planned… For more context, check out the video that accompanies this podcast (S9:E8 Our one and ONLY bike adventure | Jamin LOSES IT in Columbia River Gorge
S9:E7 – There's a lot to see in Olympic National Park – three ecosystems (rainforest, ocean and mountains) that cover the span of 1 million square miles. Each year, the park's Hoh Rainforest gets more than 12' of rain, which ensures the photogenic Sol Duc Falls continues to thrive. Then there's Rialto Beach, one magnificent piece of the 73 miles of coastline. There are a handful of dog-friendly trails too, such as Spruce Railroad Trail and Peabody Creek Trail. Hurricane Ridge lends itself to incredible mountain tops views, with convenient hikes. We thoroughly enjoyed this massive park and its diverse features. Meanwhile, back at camp, our Airstream become infested with mice. Not cool. If you've ever traveled in an RV, you might have experienced this too. Tune in to hear all about it.
