A couple of months ago I was wandering around a small bookstore here in Vermont, where I ran across a book with the magnetic title, “Abandoned Vermont and New Hampshire,” by one Marie Desrosiers. I picked it up and started reading; the next day, I finished it. The book was so compelling that I found Marie online and sent her a message. A few days later we had a chat about her work, and she agreed to do an interview about the books she writes and the photographs of she makes of abandoned places—a field she calls the study of abandonment. Please enjoy.

HT1759 - Abandoned Places For reasons I'm not sure I understand, lots of photographers seem to be fascinated with photographing abandoned places. We see lots of submissions of abandoned farmhouses, all kinds of factories, barns, and amusement parks! Sometimes these projects are fantastic, but more frequently they might be characterized as explorations of "crumbling architecture." The architecture is usually a lot less interesting than the stories of people and older times that these abandoned buildings can portray.

Join us on a captivating journey in this episode " as we explore the remarkable career of Jess, a talented photographer whose path took her from the eerie and mysterious world of abandoned locations to the electrifying atmosphere of concert photography. In the beginning, Jess was drawn to the haunting beauty of forgotten spaces. Armed with her camera, she ventured into abandoned factories, dilapidated hospitals, and forgotten amusement parks, capturing the raw essence of places long forgotten by time. Her evocative images told stories of decay and memories frozen in time. However, Jess's passion and talent didn't stop at abandoned places. Her dedication and unique eye for composition eventually led her to a different stage, quite literally. Today, she stands in front of the world's most renowned musicians, snapping photographs of artists like Karol G and Avril Lavigne as they captivate audiences with their music. #rratedpodcast #filmindustry #entertainment #photograpgy #concerts #photo #film #wellbeing #travel #karolg #music #clients #camera #fastfashion #stylist#industryinsight #entertainment #spotifypodcast #youtubepodcast #behindthescenes #filmpodcasts #applepodcast #theatre #filmindustrybts #podcastersoninstagram #podcastlife #podcastproducer #podcastoftheday #podcastspotify --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/priscilla-emprechtinger/message

Ben James is British explorer who shares his pictures and videos on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Ben recounts how he began his explorations as a young lad sneaking into abandoned homes and how his exploration has expanded to include abandoned asylums, hospitals, and funeral homes, often finding morbid or intriguing items left behind. He shares a tale of exploring what he thought was an abandoned hoarder house, only to be confronted by a man wielding a shotgun, as well as stories of exploring the abandoned home of a serial killer and discovering bodily organs in abandoned hospitals in France and Spain. Ben also addresses criticism he received from a member of the "28dayslater" UK-based exploring forum, before the interview takes a serious turn as he shares a personal story of being falsely accused of stealing items from abandoned homes and sexually assaulting female explorers, and messaging underage children. Overall, the episode provides a fascinating insight into the world of abandoned place exploration, complete with its dangers, surprises, and controversies. Travel journalist Oli Smith joins Laura to talk about the world's abandoned wonders, as detailed in his new book, Atlas of Abandoned Places.During the episode, Oli talks about some of the destinations which feature in the book - many of which he's visited himself - as well as some of his earliest adventures as a young backpacker and his career as a travel journalist.Oli also tells us why you shouldn't try visiting some of the destinations in this book yourself as it can be illegal. But this hasn't stopped a group of people who've formed the “Urbex” community who sneak into off-limits places. The True Travel Podcast -Instagram: @truetravelpodcastTwitter: @truetravelpodFacebook: The True Travel PodcastOli SmithInstagram: @olismithtravelTwitter: @OliSmithTravel Website: oliversmithtravel.com Buzzsprout is the #1 podcast hosting platform and made launching the True Travel Podcast really easy. What's up guys! This week is a solo episode, because I just got home from a tour in Australia. I was working for The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus as a content creator and while I was in Adelaide, I hit up my dude, Jims_urbex, who I've had on the show before, to see if he wanted to explore. While he wasn't able to meet up with me, he was kind enough to hit me with some dope spots. I only got into one of them, but I'm so glad I got to see this cool abandoned mall! Brian Henry is a Baltimore-based explorer and experimental art photographer. His work focuses on nude male photography inside abandoned places and his portraits show ghostly-like disappearing person in the eerie decay setting. He went to Bosnia where he found fragments of bones in abandoned shopping mall. He followed his ancestors family tree that lead him to visit Poland and he visited Sweden where he set up an alarm and woke up the whole village from a deep winter sleep. He's been to Chernobyl too and when this episode drops, he will be exploring in Iceland! On top of that, Brian Henry a.k.a “the squid guy” used to leave dried squids hanging from the ceiling in abandoned buildings all over the Maryland state. Why? Listen carefully to his episode to find out. There might be a story about bunch of vultures swirling above his head after smelling a dead squid. This one pissed me off..I had a phone call with a fellow explorer recently who told me that they know someone that found a memory card in a bando and has been posting the photos from that memory card for the past year, claiming that they TOOK THE PHOTOS ON IT!?!?!? How crazy is that?! What should be done with this information?
