Today on Too Opinionated, we share a drink with actor/director Ted Lange! After appearing in the film Black Belt Jones in 1974, he portrayed Junior on the series That's My Mama before landing the role of the ship's bartender, Isaac, on The Love Boat in 1977, opposite Gavin MacLeod. In the early 1980s, following a letter of recommendation from Lynn Redgrave (whom he met on an episode of The Love Boat), Lange attended a summer school at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to perfect his Shakespeare acting skills. After he left the show in 1987, Lange appeared in various films and in guest roles on 227, In the Heat of the Night, Evening Shade, Boy Meets World, The King of Queens, Scrubs, Drake & Josh, Psych, The Cleveland Show, and Are We There Yet?. Ted's classical background as well as his years before the camera have enabled him to become known as an actor's director inspiring not only emotional but also comedic scenes. His four-camera directing expertise includes sixty episodes for Entertainment Studios', The First Family and Mr. Box Office, and twelve episodes of Are We There Yet?, for Executive Producer, Ali Leroi. His one-camera directing experience is showcased in the independent films, Othello and For Love of Amy as well as the one-camera television comedies, The New Gidget and The Brothers Garcia for Universal. The Fall Guy and Mike Hammer exemplify his directorial work in action shows.   Want to watch: Youtube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

It's not an agenda to tell black stories in our totality, it is simply innate.  Leroi's creative objective is not necessarily to go outside of the box, but simply not to ignore everything that fills it. His resume speaks volumes, but he started as a stand-up comedian. He shares stories from those earlier years; meeting Chris Rock and how that relationship developed over time both personally and professionally.  Leroi breaks down the career trajectory of a comedian's lifespan, and his process as a writer and as a Director/Jazz composer. LeRoi also shares his opinion on the unavoidable topic of his fellow Chi-town native, Kanye West. (Fortunately, we don't end on that note). Creatives get your notepads ready, because there are some free nuggets of feedback courtesy of Mr. Leroi all throughout this episode. #AliLeRoi talks about directing this new movie from Blumhouse Television. Set in a world where sudden economic collapse has created massive chaos and a total dismantling of the country, the film focuses on two families and what they are willing to do to survive. This is an intense film, ripe for expansion - similar to #ThePurge franchise, only much closer to reality in American and around the world today. With companies having to shut down (and many going out of business) due to quarantine, the pandemic itself and protests, it's easy to see how such events could eventually lead to a long-term societal collapse. The primary family in this movie, headed by #DerekLuke and #ErikaAlexander, are ill-prepared for that reality, which they soon unfortunately realize. However, their neighbors, with Sam Trammell at the helm, can offer assistance. Though it's at a very high price! Available on #Epix & for Digital Purchase via Paramount Home Entertainment on Dec. 10th. . . . . Personal note: This is a great movie and concept, and I am so for seeing more on this, as with The Purge franchise, also from Blumhouse. Given the times we are living in, it's definitely an interesting take on what could happen (and in some places, has already happened) in the world. Enjoy this interview, which was so much fun, and make sure to watch the movie! . . . . #ZamaniWilder #PeytonJackson #SamTrammell #JessiCase #CharityJordan #VinceMattis #AllisonBuckmelter #NicolasBuckmelter #legends #iconic #filmhistory #blumhouse #blumhousetelevision #jasonblum #horrormovies #thrillermovies #blackfilms #americanrefugeemovie #blumhousehorrormovies --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nancygandcorryg/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nancygandcorryg/support

The Candid Frame: Conversations on Photography

Ali LeRoi is a photographer as well as the Emmy Award-winning co-creator/executive producer/writer of the critically acclaimed comedy “Everybody Hates Chris,” a series inspired by the childhood experiences of comedian Chris Rock. He is a Golden Globe nominee, a 2007 NAACP Image Award winner for best writer in a comedy series, as well as a winner of the 2007 AFI TV Program of the Year Award. LeRoi served as a producer and writer on “The Chris Rock Show,” for which he won an Emmy, a Cable Ace Award, and received five Emmy Award nominations. He is an NAACP Awards Best Director nominee for his work on Everybody Hates Chris, and has directed segments for the “77th Annual Academy Awards,” as well as for the “Orlando Jones Show.” Major motion picture credits include producing and co-writing “Head of State” and “Down to Earth,” as well as producing cult-favorite, “Pootie Tang.” Photography for him is meditation, memory, and connection. Taking time to consider what something is. Why something is. Who someone is. For LeRoi photography freezes the fractions of sections in between all of the things he sees and does and holds still all of the places and people he passes by and gives him a moment to consider them, inspect them, appreciate them, and remember them.  While he has a focus on people, and exploring the breadth of their condition and their ability to connect to the world around them, as well as their ability to connect with him, he also ventures into architecture as abstract, and it’s collision as form, as still life. Much of his work grows out of a strongly held sense of solitude and a desire to connect to the things around him. He has no hard and fast rules about purity or constraints around editing an image. He does what he feel. And show it. He assumes that his body of work will take on a character as it grows, as he is it’s singular filter. Originally from Chicago, LeRoi currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two sons.   Resources:   Download the free Candid Frame app for your favorite smart device.
