We had a fantastic conversation with Frankie Faison (01:58:30 of episode), a talented and accomplished actor and a legend in the entertainment industry with a successful career spanning several decades. He is best known for his versatile performances in film, television, and on stage. One of his most notable roles is as Commissioner Ervin Burrell in the critically acclaimed television series "The Wire." Faison's contributions to the entertainment industry have been significant, and his performances have left a lasting impact on audiences and critics alike. Now he is entering the food industry with a successful launch of Frankie's Fabulous Granola with an anticipated nationwide launch in 2024. After spending more than 2 decades carefully crafting his recipe, Frankie is ready to share his product with the world! During the actors strike, with every bag that was sold, a portion of the proceeds were donated to the SAG-AFTRA Emergency Relief Fund to help support those in his union during the strike against the AMPTP. Frankie's Fabulous Granola is hand made (and mixed) with love and care. Each batch is crafted in small quantities to guarantee freshness and flavor. Using only the finest organic ingredients, their granola is the perfect combination of crunch and sweetness, making it a delightful addition to your breakfast or snack time. With the holiday season in full force in the Philadelphia area we welcomed Grace Gosnar (59:30 of episode) Marketing Coordinator for Teddy Sourias's Craft Concepts Group. CCG really goes all out to make any visit a full sensory experience. The collection of CCG restaurants, bars, beer gardens and pop-up concepts focuses on showcasing and being a driver in the elevation of Philadelphia's thriving dining and nightlife scene. Their locations include BRU Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn, Kontrol, Finn McCool's Ale House, Uptown Beer Garden, Tradesman's, Blume Burger, Sueño, Tinsel holiday pop-up bar, and more. Coming soon to Philadelphia is Bake'N Bacon that will open a new bacon themed restaurant in South Philly. We chat with Chef/Owner Justin Coleman (01:16:50 of episode) about the new 2,500 sq. feet space that will seat around 74 people inside and around two dozen outside, with room for more as they complete additional dining and event space. From the kitchen, foodies will find Bacon BBQ, Bacon Mac, Bacon Buffalo Sandwiches - and more handhelds, plus Bacon Burnt Ends, Bacon Caramel Pound Cake, Chocolate Covered Bacon, and Coleman's favorites Savory Brisket Waffle and Bacon Brisket Sandwich. The restaurant and bar will have a full liquor license with a menu of cocktails designed special to pair with the bacon-centric food offerings. Talking about bacon we even discussed 322 BBQ's triple smoked candied bacon. Steve Luttmann (23:10 of episode) of Hercules Mulligan Rum and Rye available at Reading Terminal Market joined us to describe how they started and the history of the name. A unique recipe from the era of revolution and self-determination, custom-tailored for the modern independent thinker. Perfectly balanced Caribbean Aged Rum & American Rye Whiskey create an equilibrium of duality. The Rum & Rye blend is combined with macerated, fresh organic ginger - not artificial flavors. And it's the essence of this magical root that gives the blend a kick and builds its distinctive character. The potion is finished with a dash of bespoke bitters that add that extra flavor. No fakery, only honest-to-God ingredients that capture the essence of a bittersweet life. A little more conversation about cocktails with Carey Jones & Mixologist John McCarthy (37:40 of episode) joined us to talk about their new book ‘Every Cocktail Has a Twist: Master 25 Classic Drinks and Craft More Than 200 Variations' published by Countryman Press. You love your favorite libations, but sometimes you want something different that you know you'll like. Providing all the tools you need to create delicious new concoctions, this comprehensive collection reconfigures 25 timeless tipples, from Bloody Marys, Daiquirís, and Manhattans to Margaritas, Negronis, and Old-Fashioneds. Jeremy Scheck (07:25 of episode) has charmed a new generation of home cooks with his simple yet remarkably tasty recipes and his reliable culinary know-how. Now, in this stunning and personal book ‘ScheckEats―Cooking Smarter: Friendly Recipes with a Side of Science' published by Harvest & William Morrow HarperCollins it is brimming with approachable recipes and step-by-step guidance. Jeremy shares the building blocks of what he calls culinary literacy: understanding why a recipe works and empowering readers to cook with confidence every day. Recipes are designed to minimize single-use ingredients and equipment (for example, all baking recipes are no-mixer-required), encouraging versatility with easily available essentials and Jeremy's favorite kitchen staples. If the young gourmands on MasterChef Junior are anything to go by, lots of kids are eager to get into the kitchen. We talked to Danielle Acken (01:43:05 of episode) about the new book ‘Let's Eat: Recipes for Kids Who Cook' published by TouchWood Editions. Seasoned cookbook author Danielle Acken, food stylist Aurelia Louvet, and their six proteges (age 7 to 17) are here to help. Let's Eat brings together kitchen basics, tools, terminology, and 60+ recipes with loads of variations to suit a range of tastes. You want to be the toast of town hosting a holiday gathering? #TheRookieFeds is a new hit show focusing on law enforcement, with a twist! From the creator of #TheRookie, this series spinoff focuses on #NiecyNashBetts (Simone) and her journey becoming an FBI agent in her late forties. Having a show like this - with a little bit of everything - focusing on a Black woman is not something that's often seen. And, of course, Niecy and Frankie bring a great deal to their roles as father and daughter with opposing views of law enforcement professionals. Not only is the show action-packed and funny, it is also heartwarming. In this interview, they share their thoughts on what it takes to make this series and the characters shine, from behind the scenes to in front of the camera. And not to mention, #NashBetts is getting well-deserved accolades for not only this, but the harrowing #Dahmer with #EvanPeters and #RyanMurphy. Both are well worth the watch, for obviously different reasons. Interestingly, the two show her characters on opposite sides as well - one as a caring enforcer of the law, and the other as a frustrated citizen trying to do the right thing but being ignored by officers. Tune in to #RookieFeds on Tuesdays on #abcnetwork and #DahmerNetflix on #netflix. #abcnetwork #FrankieFaison #TheWire #Reno911 #AlexHawley #TerencePaulWinter --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nancygandcorryg/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nancygandcorryg/support
The 60th edition of the New York Film Festival, currently in progress through October 16th, recently hosted the World Premiere of Chinonye Chukwu's powerful new drama, Till, in the festival's Spotlight section. Till tells the story of Mamie Till-Mobley, the Chicago woman whose son, Emmett Till, was lynched while visiting cousins in Mississippi and whose body became an indelible image of the horrors of American racism. Employing a direct, unflinching, yet sensitive gaze, Chukwu has created the definitive drama of this woman's grief and resilience, and in an astonishing performance, Danielle Deadwyler captures both a mother's indescribable heartbreak and her inspiring ascension to the role of civil rights activist. Till is a momentous reminder of an ever-present tragedy, featuring painstaking production design, subtly expressive camera framing and composition, and a note-perfect supporting cast, including Sean Patrick Thomas, Jalyn Hall, Tosin Cole, John Douglas Thompson, Frankie Faison, and Whoopi Goldberg. Listen to the press conference below with director Chinonye Chukwu, producer and co-writer Keith Beauchamp, and cast members Danielle Deadwyler, Whoopi Goldberg, Jalyn Hall, John Douglas Thompson, and Sean Patrick Thomas, moderated by NYFF Main Slate selection committee member, Rachel Rosen. Thanks.

From writer and director David Midell comes a socially conscious drama thriller, THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN, shot in real-time, tells the true story of the final hours of the life of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. (Frankie Faison). The elderly African American veteran with bipolar disorder was killed in 2011 during a conflict with police officers who were sent to his home to check on him, when his medical alert device was mistakenly activated. Despite Chamberlain informing the officers there was a mistake and he did not have an emergency, they were recorded taunting him, ridiculing his military service, howling racial epithets at him, and finally, the officers broke his door down and shot him twice in the chest, and no charges were brought against the police in a 2012 jury trial. Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman, THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN, starring Frankie Faison (The Wire), is a multi award-winning film comes at an important time in the national conversation about how our criminal justice system treats people of color, people in low-income areas, and people living with mental health challenges, echoing recent high-profile incidents involving George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others. Director David Midell (Nightlights) joins us to talk about the real life tragedy that inspired the film, hewing as closely as possible to the circumstances and reactions that led to the needless death of a man who did nothing to warrant the brutal end to his life and the challenges of filming in very close quarters. We learned that you need more than a blonde actress, some haunted garbage or a John Cho cameo to make either of the remakes worth your time!Watch SEARCHING with John Cho instead or POSSESSOR with Amdrea Riseborough or THE WIRE with Frankie Faison! We hope you'll listen and enjoy. We love you. This week, the guys welcome back Mariah Lirette to talk about a movie she picked for the show after taking the Mraovich Challenge - White Chicks, a film famously described as "up there with Titanic." The gang talk about giant Russians ice cream vendors, topical Winona Ryder jokes, the ease in which the Wayans change in and out of some very complicated 'white chick' suits, Terry Crews taking a very unfortunate turn late in the film and much more. Plus: they figure out that the character stupidity may revolve around eye infections. The guys also drop a hint for next week's movie. Check on Facebook or Twitter on Monday for the reveal! It's all about the women on film this week on #BTLRadioShow thanks to writer/director BRIAN CAVALLARO and his latest film 32 WEEKS, and our prerecorded exclusive interview with writer/director JULIA HART talking I'M YOUR WOMAN. We open the show with our prerecorded exclusive interview with writer/director JULIA HART talking about her latest film, I'M YOUR WOMAN. (Hart is also the force behind Disney's Stargirl which you can watch on Disney+.) We've all seen mafia crime thrillers before and with rare exceptions, all are told from the male perspective with the wives, girlfriends, and children relegated to background window dressing. Stepping outside of the box, together with co-writer Jordan Horowitz, Hart gives us the story of Jean with Rachel Brosnahan delivering one of the best performances of her career in the role, along with Marsha Stephanie Blake, Arinze Kene, Frankie Faison, and Bill Heck. A mob wife with no skills and no street smarts, Jean is oblivious to what her husband Eddie does for a living. She lives in an upscale suburban neighborhood, is perfectly coiffed, has impeccably manicured nails, and wears the trendiest fashion the 1970's has to offer, but she can't cook, doesn't clean, and is in fact so inept she doesn't even know how to cut tags out of clothing. Just imagine what happens when Eddie arrives home "from work" one day holding out a baby like it's the latest edition headline of the National Enquirer and saying "He's yours." But then take it a step further and have Cal, one of Eddie's enforcers, show up at the house in the dead of night to whisk Jean and the baby to safety only to then have to leave her on her own. And this is just the beginning of Jean's story. Take a listen as Julia and I go deep into her creating a perfect apportioned 1970's world with all the colors of the period both in production design and costume, color palette, choreographing and shooting action sequences, the themes tackled within the film, casting and chemistry, Jean's journey and arc of the characters, and, of course, working with a baby. Then we welcome writer/director BRIAN CAVALLARO back to the show to talk about his new film, 32 WEEKS. Brian last joined us a couple of years ago for Against the Night, a chilling film shot in a 100+-year-old abandoned prison in suburban Philadelphia. With the majority of that film in darkness with much lighting relegated to single headlamps only, Brian now not only shifts coasts with 32 WEEKS but brings us out of the terror of the dark and into the light of sunny Santa Monica, California, while exploring the empty darkness of one woman's mind following a car accident that left her with short term memory amnesia and many unanswered questions. The biggest unanswered questions. A long time award-winning producer, as well as director of multiple episodes in many television series, as well as reality and awards show, it's exciting to see Brian behind the camera with narrative features. Even more exciting is to see his directorial range and growth just between 32 WEEKS and Against the Night. Listen as Brian dives into the genesis of the story, the twists and turns and ambiguity created not only through the script but by nuanced performances and keen editing, finding the pacing and timing of reveals with editing most particularly with flashbacks of memory, casting, cinematography, visual metaphor, the challenges of a multiplicity of locations especially on a lo budget/no budget/micro-budget film, and so much more. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

We go so much great feedback from our last “You Should Watch It”, we decided to make it a regular addition to the podcast. We love it because it allows us to venture deep into the archives and find classics that are just outside of our action wheelhouse. This episode is exactly one of those situations. We don’t normally cover scifi and we’ve NEVER done a horror movie. So, why not both? Melissa and Dominic are huge horror fans (anyone want our Shudder login?) and were right at home with a classic horror with amazing practical effects. John is the scifi geek and loves the flamethrower cops in special suits running around the sewers. Oh yeah, and its got a fantastic cast! We love C.H.U.D. as much as we love Toxie and we think you’ll love it too. You shouldn’t hold a grudge forever, but for now, here’s another one. Written and directed by Nicolas Pesce, The Grudge is the fourth instalment in the American The Grudge film series, which serves as a sidequel to the 2004 American remake and two direct sequels of the original 2002 Japanese horror film Ju-On: The Grudge. A detective (Andrea Riseborough) investigates a murder scene that has a connection to a case that her new partner (Demian Bichir) handled in the past. The killings occurred in a haunted house that passes on a ghostly curse to those who dare enter it. Soon, the curse spreads to a terminally ill woman (Lin Shaye) and her husband (Frankie Faison), and another unsuspecting couple (John Cho and Betty Gilpin) who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Grudge is available to rent now from a Video Ezy Express kiosk.

Today on The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Warren Christie and Michaela McManus of NBC's The Village. Welcome to the Village, an apartment building in Brooklyn that appears like any other from the outside but is quite unique inside. The people who reside here have built a bonded family of friends and neighbors. Sarah's a nurse and single mom raising a creative teen; Gabe's a young law student who got a much older and unexpected roommate; Ava must secure the future of her young, U.S.-born son when ICE comes knocking; Nick's a veteran who's returned from war; and the heart and soul of the building, Ron and Patricia, have captivating tales all their own. These are the hopeful, heartwarming and challenging stories of life that prove family is everything — even if it's the one you make with the people around you. The cast includes Moran Atias, Dominic Chianese, Warren Christie, Frankie Faison, Jerod Haynes, Daren Kagasoff, Michaela McManus, Lorraine Toussaint and Grace Van Dien. Mike Daniels will write and executive produce. Minkie Spiro will direct and executive produce the pilot.
