Prior to this role, she held multiple nursing leadership positions and provided direct care in emergency medicine, where she developed a deep commitment to clinician well-being. A graduate of Holy Family University and Walden University, Kristen has consistently championed the well-being of both her colleagues and the nursing profession as a whole. She currently serves as President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and chairs the ENA's National Wellness Committee. A Certified SMART (Stress Management and Resiliency Training) Practitioner, Kristen delivers evidence-based well-being education across the Jefferson Health System. Her speaking engagements include presentations for the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing, the Emergency Nurses Association, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of AACN, the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. She's dedicated to advancing the knowledge and skills of her team, ensuring that patients receive the most cutting-edge treatments available. In 2018, Amanda transitioned into the role of Stroke Coordinator and, by 2021, became the Stroke Program Manager for the northern Colorado region. In 1982, she joined Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago—now Lurie Children's Hospital—where she worked in the NICU and played a key role in launching the Neonatal Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team in 1985. Harriet also founded the hospital's resuscitation program in 2001, expanding education in life-saving certifications such as ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, and more. Beyond her clinical work, Harriet is deeply committed to community outreach and philanthropic service. She has been volunteering at her local homeless shelter since 1996, running a weekly clinic, and has participated in 28 humanitarian mission trips across nine countries. She remains actively involved with the Emergency Nurses Association at both the state and national levels. From pediatric pearls to powerful life lessons, Harriet brings a depth of wisdom shaped by her rich nursing journey. On episode 507 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Dr. Emily Werthman, PhD, RN, CBRN, a dedicated Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) and the Patient Care Manager and Burn Program Manager at the Johns Hopkins Burn Center in Baltimore. In the course of their conversation, Keith and Dr. Werthman discuss the growth of the CBRN credential, the anticipation that the CBRN certification will be nationally accredited and Magnet-accepted in 2025, and the crucial role that nurses play in elevating burn care to new levels of expertise and professionalism. They also discuss the many types of burns that burn nurses may encounter, some of which may not immediately come to mind, but are nonetheless more common than we think. Burns rank 6th among the ten top preventable injury-related deaths in the United States, with 398,000 people receiving treatment for burns each year. For those nurses who choose to dedicate themselves to this nursing specialty, there is a respected and rigorous certification process and a plethora of possibilities for a fascinating career path as a CBRN. Emily Werthman, PhD, RN, CBRN is a graduate of the Allegany College nursing program. She also holds a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as a BSN and MSN from the University of Notre Dame of Maryland. She has her PhD in nursing from the University of Maryland where her research focused on the relationship between acute burn pain and childhood adversity. Emily is a member of the board and the Lead Nurse Planner for the American Burn Association where she also holds a national committee appointment to the Nursing and Program Committees. She is a subject matter expert, item writer, and Exam Content Review Committee member for the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing's Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) exam. She is also a member of BCEN's board of directors. She serves as a special advisor to the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA)'s burn and blast injury special advisory group. Recently, Emily was appointed to the Board Program Committee of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors. Additionally, she holds adjunct faculty positions in the Johns Hopkins, Stevenson University, and Community College of Baltimore County Schools of Nursing. Sean Elwell is the Senior Director of Emergency Services, Critical Care Transport, and the Pediatric Trauma Center at Nemours Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, where he has dedicated over 21 years of service. Starting his career as an EMT, Sean transitioned to become a registered nurse and earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from Wilmington University. He holds a master's degree in nursing leadership and health systems management from Drexel University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. A recognized leader in his field, Sean has published numerous articles and presented at regional and national conferences. He is a Past-President of the Society of Trauma Nurses and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer on the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing. In addition to his professional roles, Sean actively contributes to his community as the Mayor of Elsinboro Township, where he has served for 18 years, including 14 years as Mayor. He has held various leadership positions within local government and is currently on the Executive Board for the New Jersey League of Municipalities, set to become First Vice-President this November. Sean also dedicates time to volunteer with the Elsinboro Fire Company, where he serves as Chief. His extensive experience and commitment to both healthcare and public service make him a respected leader in his community. Adam Oliver is a dedicated healthcare professional with over two decades of experience in the emergency medical field. He resides in Gilliam, Louisiana, located in northern Caddo Parish, approximately 30 miles north of Shreveport. Currently Adam serves as the Director of Integrated Health for LifeNet, Inc. and manages three rotor-wing assets and one fixed-wing asset within the Air Division, while also overseeing the development of community paramedic and telehealth programs. As a passionate advocate for community service, Adam is the Mayor of Gilliam and has previously served as a town council member. His commitment to public safety is further exemplified by his ten-year service as a Board Commissioner for Caddo Fire District Seven, which operates in a large rural area. Recently appointed to the Hospital Service District board, he plays a vital role in supporting the North Caddo Medical Center, a critical access hospital that includes five rural health clinics, two pharmacies, and a dental clinic. Since a young age, Adam has been committed to serving others in their most vulnerable moments. His diverse experiences as a paramedic, emergency nurse, ICU nurse, and flight nurse have shaped his approach to healthcare and community engagement, reinforcing his belief in the importance of compassion and support in times of need.
