Ken welcomes author, pastor, professor, and advocate Dr. Troy Jackson to talk about his new book Living Undivided: Loving Courageously for Racial Healing and Justice (To be released January 2024). Along with Co-Author Chuck Mingo, Dr. Jackson tells the story of an initiative designed to "bring people together to learn from each other with honesty, integrity, and vulnerability, moving them toward awareness, through agitation, and into action." Troy tells his personal story, raised in Anderson Indiana by a high school teacher/basketball coach. His teams were racially integrated. Troy formed deep friendships, but in college, he came to understand that as open as he thought he was, whiteness remained woven into his own worldview. Called to ministry, Troy earned an M. Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he was introduced to theologian James Cone. It set the trajectory of his pastoral work, launched in urban Cincinnati, Ohio. Longing to learn more, he enrolled in a post-graduate program at the University of Kentucky. He took a deep dive into the historical papers of Dr. Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement. His doctoral dissertation emerged out of that study. When he met Chuck Mingo, the two of them partnered in a project called Undivided - focussing on racial history, reconciliation, and the biblical mandate to build bridges - to pursue justice, repentance, and restoration. This is part 2 of my interview with HanSoul. In this segment he talks about his upcoming film Jesus Saves! and many other things about the changes in his life after accepting Christ. It was the early 2000s, before 2007, and I was traveling through North Carolina listening to the radio, trying to find a Christian station to listen to, and to my surprise I happened upon a station that was playing Christian Hip Hop. While listening to this radio station mix there was a song that came on that was by an artist named Han Soul. I cannot remember the actual song I heard, but I knew as soon as I heard it that I wanted to hear more of his music. Years went by and the internet finally came to a place where I could find Artists for whom I may have searched for years, and finally I came across Han Soul just after his name came across my mind, in my spirit. I found him on Instagram and I was really excited about connecting with him and to hear his story. HanSoul (“Hans”) is a disciple, servant, and son of Jesus Christ. The Philadelphia native hit the scene in 1991, with the hit song Imagination that went to the top 10 on Billboard's rap charts (1991). Hans was the second rap artist signed to Epic/Sony records in 1991. He also completed an album with Loud/RCA records in 1993. It appeared Hans was living the American Dream with appearances and performances on BET's Teen Summit, Rap City, Arsenio Hall, The Party Machine and videos that were in rotation on BET and MTV Europe & extensive touring with many of hip hop's heavyweights of that era. Though Hans experienced massive amounts of exposure and success, it was not enough to put an end to the insatiable pain, depression, drug-usage and confusion. In the year of 1995, during his darkest days he pleaded with the Lord Jesus Christ to give him a new life. Christ answered his prayer by compelling him to completely surrender himself and rededicate his life to Him. In this new life in Christ, Hans is now living his life behind enemy lines proclaiming the gospel and bringing others to salvation. Since “switching lanes” Hans has released 6 very successful Christian hip-hop albums and numerous music videos that have received heavy rotation. He, along with DJ Official (Lecrae's former DJ), formed a major radio show on Radio One Philadelphia. Hans' ministry has been featured locally and nationally with interviews on TBN's Praise The Lord, CBN's 700 Club, NBC 10, Fox Philadelphia and ABC's Visions. Hans has toured with numerous notable Christian & Secular artists. Hans is an ordained minister and serves as Director of Youth & Young Adults for the Tri-State area for the Church of God, Anderson Indiana. Hans has directed, produced and edited a feature film entitled Jesus Saves! about his testimony. He holds a Master's of Divinity from Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University and is finishing up a Master's of Education from Eastern University. Hans resides in Philadelphia with his lovely wife Melanie. #HanSoul #PneuPneumaGodcast #NormanBrown #SoldOut #Rapper #Jesus #Cristiano #Dios #Bible #God #WordLifeRadio #prayer #Christian #podcast #KevinSamuels To book Norman for events, conferences, interviews and more email: pneu.pneuma.podcast@gmail.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pneu-pneuma/support

This is the first post of VINYL VIBRATIONS by Brian Frederick. In today's podcast we look at Part ONE of a two-part program on JAZZ FUSION. Today, we focus on the decade of development of JAZZ FUSION during the late 1960s and into the 1970s -- during the "Golden Age of Vinyl" when many of the early works we will hear are found in Vinyl LP format. Jazz Fusion maybe not as much a musical style, but more of a MUSICAL APPROACH. PROGRAM SUMMARY M1 Gary Burton Quartet, their first album DUSTER in 1967 on RCA Records, vibraphonist Gary Burton, the song "LITANY". Gary Burton - the jazz vibraphonist from Anderson Indiana. Burton plays with Larry Coryell [guitar], Roy Haynes [drums], Steve Swallow [bass]. Burton developed a pianistic style of four-mallet technique as an alternative to the usual two-mallets. He is also known for pioneering fusion jazz. In 1967 BURTON formed the Gary Burton Quartet. Predating the jazz-rock fusion craze of the 1970s, the group's first record, Duster, combined jazz, country and rock and roll elements. M2 John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra and the album APOCALYPSE, 1974 on CBS. With the London Symphony Orchestra, with Michael Tilson Thomas conductor. The song titled WINGS OF KARMA track one side 2. This album is produced by George Martin. Recorded in London 1974. McLaughlin is flexing his creative muscles, demonstrating, convincingly, that he can compose and arrange in a symphonic format, and work in his electric instruments, the electric piano, guitar and bass, and the rock drum set with . Jean Luc-Ponty is featured on electric violin. John McLaughlin on electric guitar, Gayle Morgan on keyboards, plus 9 other members of the LSO. Very powerful, a very new musical dimension, this sound, in 1974. M3 The MOTHERS, and the album ..The Grand Wazoo, and the song "EAT THAT QUESTION", on Reprise Records, Warner Bros Records, 1972. Produced by Frank Zappa. On woodwinds Mike Altshul and Joel Peskin, Sal Marquez on all brass, George Duke on Keyboards, Frank Zappa percussion, and Guitar Frank Zappa, Drums Aynsley Dunbar and Bass-the credit shows as "erroneous"! All selections composed and arranged (and produced) by Frank Zappa. M4 Jean-Luc Ponty on electric violin and the album King Kong, the song "IDIOT BASTARD SON" by Frank Zappa, The album cover indicates "music for electric violin and low budget orchestra - composed and arranged by Frank Zappa. The electric violin has a natural footing, a solid role as a solo instrument in this new JAZZ FUSION genre. M5 Jerry Goodman and Jan Hammer the song "Stepping Tones, composed by Rick Laird on the "Like Children" album, Nemporer Records 1974. This is an interesting album from the standpoint that all of the performance talent on this record is supplied by only two persons --- Jerry Goodman on on violins, electric guitar, electric mandolin, acoustic guitar, viola and --- Jan Hammer on piano, drums, moog bass, moog lead, percussion. M6 The MOTHERS "Peaches en Regalia" live track from The MOTHERS and the "Fillmore East, June 1971" album, distributed on Reprise (Warner Bros) Records. Zappa is on electric guitar, Ian Underwood on keyboards, Aynsley Dunbar on drums, Jim Pons on bass, Don Preston on the mini-moog, and Bob Harris on 2nd keyboard. "Peaches en Regalia" was written by Frank Zappa and published by Frank Zappa Music.
