About Me:Michael Molthan | M2 The RockI'm Michael Molthan, host of The M2 The Rock Show—one of the fastest-growing podcasts and shows on self-improvement, mental health, addiction recovery, and spiritual transformation. I'm so grateful you're here.I started M2 The Rock in 2017 to bring you conversations designed to make you happier, healthier, and more healed. Through raw and unfiltered discussions with experts, celebrities, thought leaders, and athletes, we uncover new perspectives on personal growth, recovery, and overcoming life's toughest challenges. My Story:What sets my journey apart is that there wasn't just one rock bottom—there were many. From being a successful luxury homebuilder to falling into addiction, homelessness, crime, and eventually 27 mugshots and prison, my life was in absolute chaos.Addiction was my temporary escape from childhood trauma, but it only led to destruction. It wasn't until I hit the lowest point imaginable that I finally found true freedom, redemption, and purpose. After an unexpected early release from prison in 2017, I walked 300 miles back to Dallas to turn myself in—only to be miraculously pardoned and told to “pay it forward.”And that's exactly what I've been doing ever since. My MissionI believe that rock bottom is not the end—it's a stepping stone to something greater. My goal is to redefine what "rock bottom" means by helping others rebuild their Spirit, Mind, and Body.On M2 The Rock, I speak openly about trauma, addiction, recovery, and the power of transformation. I don't shy away from topics like:✅ Trauma & Addiction – Understanding the root causes✅ Self-Sabotage & Mental Health – Breaking negative cycles✅ Codependency & Enabling – How relationships impact recovery✅ 12-Step Programs & Spiritual Healing – Finding true freedom✅ Religious Trauma & Personal Growth – Healing from past wounds"Everyone Is An Addict."Whether it's substances, work, validation, or negative thinking, we all have something we struggle with. But recovery is possible, and transformation is real.

Join Joe McDonald as he reflects on Steps 8 and 9 of Alcoholics Anonymous, focusing on the fear of professing newfound beliefs and making amends. Joe shares how the spirit within us may prompt hesitation when we fear judgment or losing the chance to help others. He humorously highlights the discomfort of making amends for past wrongdoings, like money and dope sacks, reminding us that many of us have walked the same path. The Big Book reminds us that, despite our fears, we must move forward in honesty and faith, trusting that our willingness to make amends is key to our healing and recovery. In Alcoholics Anonymous, it's common to fear how others may perceive us after we've wronged them. But by embracing the steps and being transparent about our journey, we can help others who are still struggling. Joe emphasizes that making amends is not just about making things right—it's about walking in faith and embracing the growth we've experienced. To support and learn from journeys like Joe McDonald, please like, comment, and share. Join Joe McDonald as he dives deeper into Steps 8 and 9 of Alcoholics Anonymous, discussing how to approach making amends when fear or postponement might be holding us back. The Big Book acknowledges that there may be wrongs we can never fully right, but that doesn't mean we avoid them. It's important to recognize that willingness is what matters most—if we would make it right, we've taken a significant step in the process of healing. In Alcoholics Anonymous, there may be situations where direct amends aren't possible due to circumstances like distance or the inability to contact the person. Joe McDonald explains that in such cases, writing an honest letter can be a solution. However, it's crucial to ensure that our reasons for postponement are valid and not based on fear or avoidance. The Big Book encourages us to move forward in our recovery and not delay unnecessarily when making amends. To support and learn from journeys like Joe McDonald, please like, comment, and share. Recovery requires understanding not just the harm we've caused others but recognizing the parallels in behavior that we once engaged in.In Alcoholics Anonymous, we learn that recovery isn't just about not drinking but about making amends for the damage done to others. The patience and understanding shown by mothers, wives, and others who stood by alcoholics through the worst of times is a testament to the power of love and resilience. He reminds us that while we don't shy away from the subject of God, we must approach these conversations with goodwill, tact, and common sense, especially when addressing people who may not share the same beliefs. In Alcoholics Anonymous, the Big Book teaches us that our willingness to make amends must be sincere, and our actions must demonstrate our commitment to setting right the wrongs of the past. Joe highlights the importance of humility and tact in these moments, encouraging us to focus on our actions rather than words alone. This approach allows us to rebuild trust and strengthen relationships while also staying true to our spiritual convictions. To support and learn from journeys like Joe McDonald, please like, comment, and share. The Big Book encourages us to stop dodging those we owe and to confront our past directly—because, more often than not, people already know the truth about our condition.Joe warns against keeping secrets in recovery, as hiding one small aspect of ourselves can lead to everything falling apart. Rather than prescribing what the Big Book says, he encourages individuals to explore its message for themselves. The idea is to have a personal revelation, one that resonates deeply and uniquely with each reader. When we experience this shared revelation, it's something that can be felt and recognized by others on the same path.In Alcoholics Anonymous, the power we call God is not just discussed—it's demonstrated. This demonstration of a higher power's presence is critical to recovery. Joe also reassures newcomers that while terms like “God” might be challenging due to past experiences, the focus here is on personal transformation, not adherence to specific terminology. In this Step 3 AA session, Joe delves into the moment where we stand at the turning point—when we ask for the protection and care of a higher power with complete abandon. This prayer marks a crucial spiritual step, especially for those who come into the program as atheists or agnostics, offering a bridge to faith for those who may not yet fully understand or trust in a higher power.Joe emphasizes the transformative power of this step. The authors of the Big Book tell us that we cannot continue on the path of recovery without surrendering our will. By asking for protection and care, we begin to turn away from self-will and toward a power greater than ourselves, which is critical for achieving sobriety and maintaining long-term recovery. Step 3 allows us to let go of fear and embrace a new sense of spiritual safety, grounded in trust that if we follow the principles of the Big Book, we will get better.“We stood at the turning point. The authors of the Big Book, including the first 100 members of Alcoholics Anonymous, outlined a specific process for recovery, one that Joe continues to teach as a critical part of the 12-Step program. The process outlined in the book is not just for alcoholics but applies to anyone suffering from addiction, whether to substances, behaviors, or destructive habits. It is a tried-and-true method, proven effective for those who are ready to embrace the principles of recovery. Joe reminds us that the main purpose of the Big Book is to show others how recovery is possible—by following the precise steps and surrendering to a power greater than ourselves.Joe explains the importance of turning our will and lives over to the care of this higher power, as described in Step 3, and how doing so unlocks the ability to engage fully in the recovery process. The Big Book's success comes from the practical steps it provides, allowing those who are struggling to find hope and a path to freedom.“For us, the main purpose of this book is to show others how we recovered. In this Step 2 AA session, Wayne shares a personal story about a moment of clarity during treatment when his friend DJ told him, “You can do dope if you want, but you can't do it here.” That simple statement became a turning point, a moment of realizing that God was doing for him what he could not do for himself.“We know the lights work because we flip the switch and the light comes on. For us, it's self-evident—when the light comes on, people will know.”Wayne discusses how the spiritual awakening in recovery can be just as subtle yet powerful as flipping a light switch. Once the light of recovery is on, it becomes self-evident, and others can see the change in us without it needing to be announced. This session encourages participants to trust in the process and recognize that sometimes the simplest moments can reveal a power greater than ourselves at work, guiding us toward healing and transformation. For more content, please like, comment, and share. The Big Book assures us emphatically that the moment a person reaches this point, they are on their way to recovery.“As soon as a man can say that he does believe or is willing to believe, we emphatically assure him that he is on his way.”Wayne highlights the importance of this “simple cornerstone” in the recovery process, noting that it refers to a concept that many may recognize from spiritual teachings, particularly from “the other book.” This cornerstone of belief is the foundation upon which a wonderfully effective spiritual structure can be built. This session encourages participants to embrace this crucial step in their journey, recognizing that willingness to believe is all it takes to begin building a new life grounded in spiritual principles. For more content, please like, comment, and share. Ask yourself these questions, go inward, and ask yourself how a supreme being could have anything to do with it all.”Wayne encourages participants to confront these difficult questions, not to shy away from them. What pointed us toward that power greater than ourselves? The hopelessness and futility in our lives.”Wayne emphasizes that it was the stark realization of our own powerlessness and the misery of our existence that opened our hearts to the possibility of a higher power. This session encourages participants to break free from this cycle by embracing the insights offered in the Big Book, recognizing the patterns that have kept them bound to their addiction. In this Step 2 AA session, Wayne explores the idea that, without realizing it, we've been guided by a certain kind of faith throughout our lives. Even when we claimed not to believe in a higher power, or questioned what that power had done for us, there was a faith at work—whether in our own reasoning or in our ability to think and analyze.“If we're honest with ourselves, which we're not always able to be, we'll see that this power we say we don't believe in has probably been carrying us most of the way.”Wayne reflects on how this faith—whether in logic, intellect, or reason—was still a form of belief, a kind of faith that shaped our lives. The Big Book reminds us that we were faithful, even if it was to the “God of reason,” and that this realization opens the door to understanding the broader concept of faith in recovery. This session encourages participants to look inward and recognize the role that faith, in all its forms, has played in their journey. In this Step 2 AA session, Wayne discusses the critical importance of honesty in the recovery process—starting with being truly honest with oneself. Reflecting on his own journey, Wayne shares how it took him 30 years to understand what it meant to be honest with himself, despite being told repeatedly in treatment to “get honest.”“I thought, ‘What do you mean we're not getting honest?' But it took 30 years until I realized what they were talking about—honest with myself—because I didn't have the capacity to be honest with myself.”Wayne emphasizes that the first step in recovery is fully conceding to our innermost selves that we are powerless over our addiction, and this concession cannot be based on a lie. True recovery begins when we stop lying to ourselves and face the reality of our situation. This session encourages participants to take a hard look within, recognizing that the capacity for true honesty with oneself is essential for any meaningful change. Join Wayne Giles as he reads and expands on the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, offering deeper understanding and practical advice for those on their recovery journey. In this Step 2 AA session, Wayne delves into the human mind's natural aversion to trauma and the tendency to avoid confronting painful memories. He explains how our minds instinctively want to abandon traumatic thoughts entirely, which is why many of us kept returning to substances—unable to bring to consciousness the memory of suffering from just a week or a month ago.“And why do we want to abandon it entirely? So we don't have to think about it. Because our human minds really don't like trauma. We don't like remembering bad things.”Wayne highlights that this struggle isn't just about substances like alcohol or drugs—it applies to many areas of our lives. The inability to recall the pain associated with our actions leads us back into harmful patterns, reinforcing the need for a spiritual solution to break free from this cycle. This session encourages participants to confront these painful memories with the help of a higher power, allowing for true healing and transformation to take place. For more content, please like, comment, and share.
