Anna Baker is a powerhouse of a person. It's just her nature. So, when the birth of her first went from a home birth plan to a hospital setting to the OR and resulted in a c-section she felt distraught, disconnected, and utterly disempowered.  Anna was, of course, relieved to have a healthy baby but having to spend the first precious hour of motherhood completely isolated in a recovery room was traumatic, to say the least. This is the story of how she emerged from that experience, surrounded herself with supportive women and went on to have two successful Vaginal Births After Cesarean (VBACs) at home. Each of Anna's birth stories have impacted her in important ways and have motivated her teach, connect with and empower women in all sorts of ways. Walker and Barker, the founders of the Starkville-based company Glo, discuss their company, entrepreneurialism, how their products went from a way to liven up parties to soothe autistic children at bath time and their newly renovated historic new corporate headquarters. Both Walker and Barker talk about why they decided to stay in Mississippi, how they plan to fight Brain Drain in the state and the importance of giving back to the community. 

I have to admit I was a bit nervous speaking to award-winning aesthetic nurse Anna today.  I am 39 and I have got lots of little lines cropping up on my forehead but I am resisting temptation. The podcast was filmed on Zoom and the first thing I noticed was how incredible and glowing Anna’s skin was. I, however, had been caught out on a rare, sunny April morning and was bright red and more wrinkled than normal. We had a great time talking about everything from the perfect skin regime to sensitive skin, exfoliation and SPF. Her father was a tenacious and proud businessman who bought a dying furnace business in Blair, partnering with his cousin, Ronald Diller. Anna Baker is a Texas native and former US Air Force cryptologist.  In 1997, she got her bachelor's degree in Accounting from Schreiner University and in 2012 received her MBA from Baylor.  After 17 years in the corporate world, she co-founded Your Smart Closet with Casilda.  Anna is also the Manager of the Women Veterans Program at the Texas Veterans Commission.
