TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. Strap in! We're headed to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom to ride the Tomorrowland Speedway! The Magic Kingdom guide map describes the attraction saying: Take a ride in your very own hot rod. Guests must be 32” (or 81 cm) tall in order to ride but guests must be 54” (or 137) to drive their own car.  Those under 54” must be accompanied by someone who is 54” tall.  There is no thrill level listed for this ride but I'd say it's pretty loud.  And at times bumpy. Here now are five fast facts about Tomorrowland Speedway. 1.  Tomorrowland Speedway is an opening day attraction, opening with Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971 2. When the attraction originally opened it was called the Grand Prix Raceway.  In 1994, it was renamed the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway and in 2008, the word Indy was dropped and it became the Tomorrowland Speedway. 3. The length of the track has been shortened over the years due to construction around the ride.  When the ride was opened, the track was approximately 3,118 feet.  The track was shortened in 1974 for the construction of Space Mountain, again in 1987 to make room for Mickey's Toontown Fair, once more in 2012 for Dumbo the Flying Elephant and most recently in 2019 for the construction of Iron Lightcyle Power Run. 4. The attractions four lanes can accommodate up to 146 cars at once! 5. The top speed of a Tomorrowland Speedway vehicle is a pulse pounding 7.5 Miles or 4.7km Per Hour. Let's head off to Disneyland to ride the iconic Space Mountain.   The Disneyland Resort Website describes Space Mountain saying: Race through the cosmos in the dark to the edge of the galaxy and back on a thrilling roller-coaster ride. Guests must be 40” or 102 centimeters to ride and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being a Thrill Ride with Small Drops that is Dark Loud and Scary. Here now are five fast facts about Space Mountain. 1.  Space Mountain opened at Disneyland on May 27, 1977. 2. It was actually Walt Disney who came up with he idea of doing a Space themed indoor roller coaster at Disneyland.  It was deemed impossible at the time due to limited technology and lack of space available in the park to build it.  Disney revived the project to fit into the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and developed a smaller Design to be built in Disneyland. 3. Six of the original seven Mercury astronauts attended the opening of Space Mountain in 1977. 4. Space Mountain closed in 2003 for a complete track replacement that kept the ride shuttered until June of 2005. 5. The music heard onboard of the current version of Space Mountain was composed my Michael Giacchino. Let's blast off on Space Mountain! There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes it as being Dark and Loud. Before we sing like the birdies sing, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. 1. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room opened at Disneyland on June 23, 1963. 2.  People associate The Enchanted Tiki Room with Dole Pineapples because they are the shows current sponsors and because of the Dole Whip soft serve sold near the entrance.  Dole only became the sponsor in 1976.  The shows original sponsor was United Airlines. 3. The Tiki Room features over 225 Audio Animatronic performers including birds, flowers and wooden tikis. 4. In order to keep the computers that run the show cool, The Enchanted Tiki Room building was Disneyland's first fully air-conditioned building. 5. The four main birds: José, Michael, Pierre and Fritz are voiced by Wally Boag, Fulton Burley, Ernie Newton and Thurl Ravenscroft respectively. Join us as we get Un Poco Loco on this episode of attraction checklist. Recorded on November 1, 2021. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we return to Disney California Adventure to see the updates to Mickey's PhilharMagic. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Immerse yourself in the wonder of Disney animation and music when you experience this 12-minute, 3D movie starring Donald Duck. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and there isn't a thrill level listed either. We experienced the previous version of Mickey's PhilharMagic at California Adventure back in episode 72 of Attraction Checklist, but here are some more facts regarding the recent update. 1. It was announced on July 1, 2021, that Mickey's PhilharMagic would receive a brand new segment in the form of a musical number from Coco on July 17th.  The addition would happen at Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Paris on July 17 and then later in 2021 at Walt Disney World. 2. The addition of Coco to Mickey's PhilharMagic in 2021 marks the first time a new segment has been added to the show since it's debut at Walt Disney Worlds Magic Kingdom in 2003. 3. Donald Duck appearing with characters from Coco marks the first time Disney and Pixar animators have worked on a project where characters from both animation studios would appear together on screen. 4. One of original composers from Coco, Germaine Franco returned to score the Coco section of the film. 5. The song ‘Un Poco Loco' from Pixar is featured in this update.  According to Google Translate, Un Poco Loco means ‘a bit crazy.' This episode we head to Disneyland's Frontierland to climb aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat.  This attraction is described on the Disneyland Resort Website saying: Cruise the scenic Rivers of America on a sightseeing tour aboard a majestic 19th-century paddle boat. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Slow Water Ride that is Loud. Before we shove off, here are five fast facts about the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland. 1.  The Mark Twain is a Disneyland opening day attraction, opening with the park on July 17, 1955. 2. Walt Disney named the riverboat the Mark Twain after the pen name of author Samuel Langhorne Clemens.  Clemens, who was a riverboat captain in his youth took his pen name from the boating term mark twain meaning the water depth is safe for a boat to pass through. 3. The Mark Twain Riverboat stands 28 feet tall and is 105 feet long. 4. The Mark Twain travels around the Rivers of America on a rail.  Though the operators can control the forward and reverse speed of the boat, the steering of the ship is all done by this rail. 5. The Mark Twain burns biodiesel fuel in it's boiler turning water into steam.  The water used is fresh water from a tank on board, not the water in the Rivers of America. Before we head to the WEB Workshop, here are five fast facts about WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure. 1. WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure opened at Disney California Adventure on June 4, 2021. 2.  Tom Holland reprises his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Peter Parker and Spider-Man in this attraction. 3. The ride vehicles use infrared cameras to track guests movements at a rate of 60 times a per second to make rider's web slinging as accurate as possible. 4. A controversial aspect of the attraction is that guests can buy $30 wrist peripherals that give you additional web powers during the ride.  Guests don't need to purchase these things to play but they do enhance a rider's abilities during the ride. 5. The theme of capturing Spider-Bots continues throughout the Avengers Campus.  As you walk around look for webbed up Spider-Bots in the area around the attraction. This episode finds us on Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure to take a ride on the Pixar Pal-A-Round.  This attraction actually has two descriptions on the Disneyland Resort website.  The first, for the standard version says: Take off on a classic Ferris wheel adventure high above Pixar Pier.  The second, covering the swinging version of the ride reads: Climb aboard for an exhilarating Ferris wheel adventure that swoops, swings, and slides—high above Pixar Pier. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the standard version a Slow Ride and the swinging version as having Small Drops. Before we get a spectacular view of Disney California Adventure, here are five fast facts about the Pixar Pal-A-Round. 1.  The Pixar Pal-Around is a Disney California Adventure, opening day attraction, having opened with the park on February 8, 2001.  When it opened it was known as The Sun Wheel.  In 2008, it was renamed Mickey's Fun Wheel.  And on June 23, 2018, it was renamed once again to the Pixar Pal-A-Round. 2. The original inspiration for the Pixar Pal-A-Round is the Wonder Wheel found at Coney Island in New York. 3. The Pixar Pal-A- Round rises above Pixar Pier a towering 150 feet or 46 meters. 4. The Pixar Pal-A-Round is unique for a Ferris wheel in that 16 of it's 24 gondolas ride on interior rails that created a, sometimes wild, swinging as the wheel rotates. 5. Each gondola features the image of a different Disney and Pixar character. Spot favorites like Woody, Buzz, Dory, Nemo, Mr. Incredible, Joy, Sadness, Lightning McQueen and more. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Galaxy's Edge to experience the Pandemic Shortened version of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.  The Disneyland Resort website describes the attraction saying:  Join the Resistance in an epic battle against the First Order on this exciting new ride. Guests must be 40” or taller in order to ride this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as being a Thrill Ride that is Dark, Loud, Scary and has small drops. We did cover Walt Disney World's Rise of the Resistance back in episode 88, but here are five fast facts about Disneyland's Rise of the Resistance. 1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened at Disneyland on January 17, 2020. 2. The main Rise of the Resistance ride vehicles utilize Radio Frequency Identification technology that allow it to navigate the attraction without a track. 3. When guests enter a room on the star destroyer that seeming is packed with AT-AT vehicles, there are only two that are physically present.  Strategically placed mirrors make it seem as if there are more. 4. The blaster fire that is simulated throughout the attraction use arrays of LEDs to give the illusion that the blaster fire is traveling through the air. 5. When Disneyland reopened after being closed for the pandemic, the ride experienced was shortened to comply with local health guidelines.  The pre-show experience featuring Rey and BB-8 is cut to minimize guest's time indoors. Well, let's see if an abbreviated version of Rise of the Resistance is still as impressive as the full experience.  After the ride, I'll give you my thoughts on this attraction. This episode we visit Fantasyland in Disneyland to ride Casey Jr. Circus Train.  The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Enjoy a whimsical tour through miniature versions of fairytale locales from classic Disney movies. There are no height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being a slow ride. Before we ride along in the monkey cage, here are five fast facts about Casey Jr Circus Train. 1. Casey Jr Circus Train was a Disneyland opening day attraction opening with the park on July 17, 1955.  However, the ride was closed the next day and remained closed through July 31st, 1955 for safety inspections. 2. Casey Jr. Circus Train takes guests on a tour of Storybook Land at a much quicker pace than the Storybook Land Canal Boats we covered back in episode 33.  Along the way you see several famous sites from Disney films such as Frozen, Peter Pan, Snow White and more. 3. Casey Jr is a two foot (610 mm) narrow gauge internal combustion powered railroad designed by Arrow Development. 4. The sleigh style train cars were part of the King Arthur Carrousel before that attraction was modified to be all horses. 5. Actor Ray Templin provides the voice of the Ringmaster on the attraction. TRANSCRIPT: This episode we ride Mater's Junkyard Jamboree at Disney California Adventure.  The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying: Ride along aboard a tractor during a tow-tappin' hoedown hosted by Mater from the Disney and Pixar film Cars.  Guests must be 32” or taller in order to ride and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being, simply a Thrill Ride.  Though I could probably think of a few more adjectives. Before we start our square dance, here are five fast facts about Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. 1. Mater's Junkyard Jamboree opened with Cars Land on June 15, 2012. 2. During regular operation, the attraction features one of seven songs sung by Mater and voiced by Mater's voice actor, Larry the Cable Guy. 3. The ride features 22 baby tractors for guests to ride on. 4. In the past, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree has received holiday makeovers!  During Halloween it's renamed Mater's Graveyard JamBOOree and Mater's Jingle Jamboree during Christmas.  These makeovers include holiday appropriate music as well. 5. The ride's queue area features several posters and recreations props that have been featured in the Mater standalone cartoons over the years. TRANSCRIPT: This episode we head to Frontierland in Disneyland to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Streak through a haunted gold mine aboard a speeding train on this thrilling coaster-style ride.  Guests musts be 40” or taller in order to ride and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Thrill Ride that is Dar, Loud and has small drops. Before we chew on some dynamite, here are five fast facts about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. 1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad opened at Disneyland on September 2, 1979. 2. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland is built on an area of the park previously occupied by the Mine Train through Nature's Wonderland Attraction.  The town that you pass at the very end of the ride is the town of Rainbow Ridge and it used to overlook the loading platform of the Mine Train attraction.  Many of the attraction's animatronic animals are also repurposed from Mine Train through Nature's Wonderland. 3. The attraction features 6 trains that all have different names.  Those names are I.M. Brave, I.M. Bold, I.B. Hearty, U.R. Fearless, U.B. Courageous and U.R. Daring. 4. Several of the attraction's train sound effects were recorded and used in the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. 5. The trains can reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour (or 56 Kilometers per hour) during the 3 minutes adventures. Before we hit the rapids, here are five fast facts about Grizzly River Run. 1. Grizzly River Run is a Disney California Adventure opening Day attraction.  It opened with the park on February 8, 2000. 2. There are a total of 32 rafts on this attraction and each raft can hold up to 8 people. 3. Grizzly River Run's rafts are designed to spin as they hit the drops on the attraction especially the ride's big drop which is 21' tall. 4. The legend of Grizzly Peak, which the attraction is built around, is that a giant Bear named Oo-soo'-ma-te was turned to stone by A-ha-le the Coyote to watch and protect the mountain.  It is Oo-soo'-ma-te's growl you hear as you ride the ride. 5. In 2019, the safety spiel was updated and voiced by the Disney animated character J. Audubon Woodlore, with Jeff Bennet providing his voice. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - A classic Disneyland dark ride attraction got a revamp while the park was closed for the pandemic.  Come along as we take a ride on the newly renamed Fantasyland Attraction, Snow White's Enchanted Wish. Recorded on May 18, 2021. TRANSCRIPT: This episode we head back to Disneyland after over a year to experience the newly updated Snow White's Enchanted wish! The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying: Embark on a magical ride into memorable scenes from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes it as being a slow ride that is dark and loud. Before we head off to the forest, here are five fast facts about Snow White's Enchanted Wish 1. On January 7, 2020, Disney closed the attraction Snow White's Scary Adventures (which we rode in episode 18) for an extended refurbishment. On December 3, 2020, it was announced that the attraction would reopen with the new name Snow White's Enchanted Wish. And on April 30, 2021, the attraction opens when Disneyland was allowed to reopen after being closed due to the pandemic. 2. The revamped attraction now features animated projections taken directly from the original Snow White film. 3. While there were always animals featured in the attraction, Imagineering added more than three dozen animals during this refurbishment. Squirrels, Rabbits, Deer, Birds and, of course, a raven, can be spotted as guests move through the ride. There are more birds in the attraction than any other kind of animal. 4. In order to create some of the figures for the attraction, Disney brought back veteran sculptor Theresa Miller to sculpt some of the Dwarves faces and animals for the reimagined attraction. 5. In addition to new LED lighting, projection mapping and new animated figures, Snow White's Enchanted Wish also features a few smells as guests move through the attraction. Let's see if Snow White's wish comes true as we ride Disneyland's Snow White's Enchanted wish. http://www.UnderThePuppet.com - Dave Chapman wrote a letter to Jim Henson when he was 11.  8 or so years later he was puppeteering on his first professional gig, Muppets Treasure Island.  Since then he puppeteered Otis the Aardvark for 5 years on the BBC, performed as The Emperor Skeksis in Dark Crystal Age of Resistance and is one of the puppeteers the iconic round droid BB-8 in the recent Star Wars Films.  He also assisted Frank Oz for Yoda's big return to the screen in The Last Jedi.  I talk with Dave Chapman about his career and thoughts on puppetry on this episode of Under The Puppet.
