Send us a Text Message. The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival first began in 1996. At the time, it was a modest event—just a 30-day celebration held in the fall. But even then, it was clear that Disney had tapped into something special. The festival was designed to enhance the park's World Showcase by offering guests the chance to sample global cuisines and fine wines, bringing a whole new layer of cultural immersion to the EPCOT experience. What started with just 25 global marketplaces scattered around World Showcase Lagoon has now grown into a massive event that stretches over several months, featuring over 30 marketplaces, celebrity chefs, cooking demonstrations, and even live entertainment. The festival has truly become a staple of EPCOT, attracting foodies from all over the world. Now, let's talk about what's in store for 2024. This year's festival will kick off on August 29th, and run through November 23rd. As always, guests can expect an incredible lineup of global marketplaces, offering small plates and beverages inspired by cuisines from around the world. If you want to take great photos of your Disney outfits at Walt Disney World, there are five great spots that will consistently deliver exceptional photos for your social media feed or personal photo album. Want to be Disney fashion influencer? Here's how to get started with great Disney style photos. The Five Best Photo Spots at Walt Disney World to Show Off an Outfit What to Consider to Get the Best Photos of Your Disney Outfits at Disney WorldThe best time for photos under natural light is first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon (which generally will provide softer golden lighting. Overcast days and shaded areas are also great for providing picture perfect diffused and muted light. So if you are serious about getting a great photo for your social feed or to become a fashion/style influencer, get to your photo spot first thing in the morning. This will provide the best lighting and the lowest crowds. By going early, the lower crowds mean that, at worst, you can use AI great to remove one or two errant people in the photo. But beyond one or two people, it can get trickier. Unless you are going for the blurred crowd effect (which is something to try if you find yourself in that situation). Focal length, aperture and the distance to your subject can all affect how the final photo turns out. Plus, for scenic views you need to consider whether the background will be busy or uniform, and whether it will be blurred or more in focus. All of this makes a difference in your final photo. You can adjust much of this in post production using apps, but the more that you consider up front, the less work you will have to do later. Five of the Best Outdoor Scenic Photo Locations for Disney Style 1. Cinderella Castle As a classic icon, Cinderella Castle has several vantage points that are perfect for unique and stylized fashion shots. This does not include the standard head-on shot from Main Street (where the PhotoPass photographers are positioned). Look for a unique angle on either side of the castle, with some good spots towards the back. 2. Grand Floridian Resort Disney's Grand Floridian Resort offers a ton of first rate outdoor photo spots. From sprawling green lawns, to great florals and tropical gardens, to beach photos and backgrounds of Seven Seas Lagoon, you can always find a great photo spot here. Of course, the white and red color palette of the majestic buildings are also picture perfect. 3. Disney Boardwalk The Walt Disney World Boardwalk has a number of options for unique and interesting fashion and style photos. From benches on the wooden boardwalk, to vistas of the Crescent Lake and the Yacht and Beach Club hotels in the distance, you will have the potential to get a ton of great shots here. If you are looking for that magical late afternoon golden hour sunlight, the Boardwalk area is perfect for that photo-friendly natural lighting. 4. EPCOT: Morocco Pavilion, France Pavilion, By the fence around to World Showcase LagoonWhile EPCOT has no shortage of first-rate photo opp locations for fashion and style photos, there are two or three that stand out as top picks to explore. At the very back of the Morocco Pavilion, you will find a wonderful location with great lighting, interesting backdrops and few crowds. Nearby in the France Pavilion is another great area where you can capture some fashion and style photos featuring the charm of old Europe. For the France area, you will need to go early in the day for the optimal nature light and the lowest crowds. Also in EPCOT, the blue water of World Showcase Lagoon can make a nice blurred background. Finding a location along the black iron rails next to the water can make for some excellent photos, assuming you time it right with the sun low in the sky or on an overcast day. 5. Animal Kingdom: Harambe Marketplace area, Animal Kingdom (Fichwa Fellow Wall, with Mickey Mouse, You are Most Beautiful wall) Over at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park, the Harambe Marketplace are is filled with colorful backdrops and unique textures that can make for some excellent photo opps. The great thing about this area is that unlike some of the other popular Disney photo wall locations (which don't have enough room to create distance between the camera, subject and backdrop), the Harambe area provides the perfect opportunity to set up for some great fashion photos. Planning Your Disney Fashion Photos in Advance is Worth the Effort Putting some thought into the photos before you take them will make a difference in the end result. If you are aiming to get some like-worthy fashion photos for your Instagram or social feed, then the extra effort and thought will pay off.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel Style PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, we that you enjoyed it. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Join me as I head to EPCOT to see for the first time and bid farewell to the nighttime spectacular Harmonious on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on February 25, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we experience EPCOT's current (as of this recording in March of 2023) nighttime spectacular Harmonious. There are no age or height requirements for Harmonious and the guide map describes it by saying, “Discover how Disney music and stories have the power to bring people from all around the world together to unlock the magic of possibility.” There is no thrill level listed for this attraction. Before we head to World Showcase Lagoon, here are 5 more fast facts about Harmonious. 1. Harmonious was announced at the D23 Destination D event in 2018. It was set to replace EPCOT Forever in 2020 but was delayed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. After a few test performances, Harmonious officially debuted on October 1, 2021. The show replaced Epcot Forever which we covered on episode 94 of this podcast. 2. The show make use of pyrotechnics, choreographed water fountains, lasers, searchlights, floating set pieces and LED screens 3. The show's barges are collectively known as The Compass. The four arc-shaped barges are named after the nearest intersecting World Showcase pavilion. They are Mexico, Germany, Canada and France. The center platform holds a six story tall ring that houses a high pressure water curtain for show projections. 4. An album featuring the show's soundtrack was released by Walt Disney Records on October 29, 2021. 5. On September 11, 2022, Disney announced that Harmonious would have it's last performance on April 2, 2023, to be replaced by the returning Epcot Forever. Let's check out Harmonious at EPCOT. This recording captures the first (and last) time I'll be seeing the show so I'll give you my thoughts afterwards. This is a binaural recording so If you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Harmonious at Walt Disney World's EPCOT! Though the season is still predominantly rooted in Christian tradition, with songs regaling the birth of a savior and families gathering to worship together, the burgeoning popularity of Santa Claus in the early nineteenth century welcomed the secular world to experience the joy of Christmas for themselves. Today, families all over the world come together around the time of the Winter Solstice to exchange gifts, enjoy lavishly appointed feasts, and spend quality time with one another. Especially in Europe and in North America, the most popular and universally recognizable Christmas custom involves a benevolent gift-giver who comes to leave presents for children as they sleep on Christmas Eve. Known by different names around the world, this jolly and joyous champion of generosity is descended from the person of St. Nicholas, who was a historical figure in Asia Minor during the reign of the Roman Empire. The story of St. Nicholas is shrouded in mystery and riddled with legend, the most widely accepted of which recounts an occasion where Nicholas dropped bags of coins through the open window of a poor man while he slept, in order to save his three daughters from ruin. Whatever the true circumstances of his altruism, St. Nicholas was a very real person who inspired the inauguration of Santa Claus and his various namesakes centuries later. St. Nicholas' feast day is celebrated during the Christian season of Advent, just a few weeks before Christmas. Children leave their shoes out for St. Nicholas, just as they hang stockings on the mantel for Santa on Christmas Eve. In the morning, they find small trinkets and chocolate coins (known as “gelt” to Jewish children during Hanukkah) to commemorate that parable of selflessness which bestowed on him a reputation which the figure of Santa Claus carries on today. That is where our journey re-commences today, far from the Mediterranean shores that we departed when last we made merry at the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. Halfway around World Showcase Lagoon, the stately elegance of the American Adventure pavilion scores our welcome with elegant piano music that trails away like snowflakes falling slowly to Earth. (5:14) Christmas decorations in patriotic red, white, and blue are hung along the stone fountain and around the white columns of the colonial theater. A corresponding Christmas tree stands next to the holiday kitchen, where the comforting aroma of a Thanksgiving reprise draws us in - turkey and cranberry sauce and all the classic trimmings. Just beyond is the heart of all the action, the one and only Santa Claus, seated on a velvet throne and surrounded by children vying for his attention and listening ears. Like something out of a classic Christmas storybook or a Norman Rockwell painting, Santa's interactions with each girl and boy are enough to grow the Grinchiest heart at least three sizes. (6:00) Listen closely - do you hear Santa speaking to a shy little princess and her precocious older brother? This is the Magic of the season revealed to us right Here and now in the innocence of youth. It is their belief, wholesome and unwavering, that reminds us that joy is found when we permit ourselves to experience life and this Magical season through the eyes of a child, through their audacious hope and limitless dreams. As we watch from afar, this perfectly serendipitous moment becomes a memory, an inspiration that will open our minds and hearts to all that we are about to see and discover. And it is with that renewal of spirit and spring in our step that we continue on, far across the sea to the Middle East of the year 164 B.C. (7:38) Along the stone dwellings and torchlit streets of Jerusalem, the recently liberated Maccabees sought to give thanks to the goodness of God for delivering them from their oppressors. They entered their sacred temple and discovered that they only had enough oil to last one night of their vigil. By some miracle, their oil lasted for eight nights, until someone was able to return and replenish their supply. They praised God for his faithfulness and protection over their people, and so the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, was born. Today, Hanukkah is celebrated in Jewish homes and temples all over the world. For eight nights, families gather in remembrance and jubilation, reaching across the generations to connect with their ancestors who endured so much in the name of freedom. Gifts are exchanged and wooden dreidels are spun for prizes and tokens of prosperity. Slowly braised and tender Brisket is the centerpiece of their feast, surrounded by crispy potato latkes fried in oil to commemorate the eight nights of miraculous light so long ago. For dessert, sweet, jam-filled donuts called sufganiyot are sure to satisfy the sugar cravings of the whole mishpacha. Traditional songs are sung and friends and neighbors greet each other with a heartfelt “Shalom,” a blessing of peace to all who seek to experience the Magic of this season of light. (8:50) In anticipation of our excursion across the seas to our next holiday celebration, let's pause Here for a moment and listen to the story of Hanukkah, as it is told by someone who holds its spiritual significance and whimsical wonder very close to his heart. (18:27) There is arguably no continent more redolent with holiday enchantment than the whole of Europe. Its storybook settings, complete with rich history, spellbinding castles and breathtaking architecture make it the backdrop of many a Christmas fantasy. In France, the holidays are a time of abundance and magnanimity. French families spare no expense in their preparations, indulging where they have lived more frugally in the months leading up to the season. Our journey through the holidays around the world wouldn't be complete without a digression Here, where the elegance of France is augmented by glittering stars and swirling garlands. The smells of peppermint and sweet pâtisserie permeate the air, enticing our appetites into luxurious indulgence. Flourishing poinsettias offset the Parisian color palette with pops of cheery crimson. Miniature Christmas scenes depict the Tour de Eiffel and the Arc de Triomphe, with a third ornamental display dedicated to the beloved French holiday tradition: the Bûche de Noël. Known to the English-speaking world as a Yule log, this decadent cake is rolled and filled to emulate the trunk of a tree, and decorated with marzipan mushrooms and leaves. The Yule log imbibes the Christmas wishes of those who partake in its creation, their selfless act of sharing an assurance that they will indeed come true. (20:21) Of course, our Joyeux Noël would not be complete without a visit from the legendary person whose namesake the holiday holds. He is a symbol of hope and gratitude, anticipation and childlike delight to all French people, young and old. As we hear the unmistakable crescendo of Christmas bells, let us take a moment in this beautiful pavilion to be regaled by a heartwarming tale from the sweet and beguiling Père Noël. His account of the Christmas Eve traditions beloved by families throughout all of France comes in the form of a letter from his little friend Babette, who lives in the scenic countryside of Provence. Babette writes to Père Noël to share her love for the whole Christmas season and most especially, Le Réveillon de Noël, the Christmas Eve festivities that French families spare no expense in making the grandest event of the year. They enjoy sumptuous feasts of roast goose, fromage, and savory pâté, escargot and succulent oysters. For dessert, the pièce de résistance: a classic Bûche de Noël. The feast is followed by joyous caroling and endless merriment. Many families dress in their holiday best and attend Midnight Mass together, returning home to place le Petit-Jésus in their own crèche, or Nativity scene, which in France is broadened to include figurines of local merchants and townspeople. Then, when all is quiet and everyone is asleep, Père Noël leaves a special present in the shoes that children leave expectantly by the extinguished embers of their fireplaces. On Christmas morning, squeals of delight at the sight of gifts and sweets tumbling from mismatched shoes call to mind a concept that we tend to lose sight of as age and experience breed skepticism and doubt. The faith of a child in that which they cannot see is a remarkable and fearless thing. Maybe, just maybe, that is where their joy comes from, that unassailable light that radiates from their souls and gives them their incredible courage. That is the Magic of youth, of Christmas, of believing in something bigger and more beautiful than what we can easily see. (31:07) Though it is hard to imagine a more uplifting holiday story than that of Père Noël, we are once again cajoled by a refrain of jingle bells, and so we make our way over the bridge and onto the charming cobblestone streets of jolly old England. Here, a Happy Christmas is already well underway. Every corner and doorway in the village square has been strung with lights and garland, multi-colored baubles and quintessential Christmas crackers. Their pops and bangs won't be heard until Christmas Eve, but there are enough roars of laughter and yuletide festivities emanating from the local pub to last until then, anyway. (31:40) A jovial bell-ringer belts out a traditional Welsh carol to all the watching villagers, calling to us with a reverberating “Hear ye, hear ye!” We gather in eager curiosity around the Christmas tree, where Father Christmas himself entertains us with stories and song and his brazen, conspicuous laugh, brimming with that cozy feeling that warms even the coldest winter nights up and down the country. It turns out, according to the well-traveled Father Christmas, that many of the most well-known and beloved holiday traditions the world over actually originated in the United Kingdom. As in many American homes, British families hang their stockings by the fireplace on Christmas Eve and exchange gifts with one another on Christmas morning. Many timeless Christmas stories, such as Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, were written and set in the heart of England during the largely romanticized Victorian era. Even the custom of hanging mistletoe is passed down from the earliest inhabitants of modern-day England and Ireland. Father Christmas is full of the wisdom of the ages, of tales from his travels and holiday cheer in spades. His laughter is infectious, his demeanor gregarious and warm. As his story comes to an end and he wishes us well on our way, he shares one last yuletide carol to carry us merrily on to the finale of our journey through the holidays, the culmination of all the joy and hope we have found Here as we've traveled near and far. (40:56) The Candlelight Processional has been a beloved tradition at Disney Parks since the first one took place at Disneyland in December 1958. Since then, it has brought guests of all ages, races, religions, and nations together to hear the biblical story of Christmas told with such passion and humanity that it is sure to resonate with each one of us, whether we celebrate Christmas or not. A full orchestra led by a renowned conductor accompany a choir assembled from within the Disney cast member family. They come together to fill the air with joyful noise, welcoming us into this theater under the stars with an array of sprightly, seasonal favorites. Then, as the story begins and we are transported to back thousands of years to the village of Bethlehem, the music betrays a paradigm shift. It moves from winter whimsy to a sort of ardent yearning as we follow shepherds and wise men on their earnest pursuit of a revelatory star, and of the baby sleeping peacefully beneath its heavenly glow. A triumphant symphony bursts suddenly into the prophetic stillness of the night. With trumpet sounds and cymbal crashes and a chorus of ethereal beauty, it announces the arrival of a promise finally fulfilled; of hope for generations and peace to all people, near and far. Magic and humanity have a unique way of converging this time of year, arousing compassion and curiosity in those otherwise content to carry on existing in their own spaces and routines, their own self-imposed confines. May we give ourselves over to that feeling today, as we find ourselves Here in this storybook of global unity and yuletide cheer. May we find joy everywhere we look, peace in the presence of chaos or calm, and Magic glowing brightly in our hearts and homes. From our Here With the Magic family to you and yours, we wish you a joyous and memorable holiday season and a bright and bountiful new year.

For millennia, it has been a time of reverence for and connection with nature, a moment to align ourselves with the natural world, the seasons, and the spiritual connotations of the Earth. It has also served as a period of acknowledgement and gathering across diverse cultures and belief systems that exist in different parts of the world. As yet another calendar page reaches its end, we find ourselves once again in the imminence of the Winter Solstice, the holiday season, and all of the joy and anticipation it brings. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, the New Year or the age-old festival of the Winter Solstice, whether you participate in religious traditions or not, the act of gathering together with friends and loved ones to share a joyful, sensory experience is a recurring theme found the world over, in holidays both old and new. Here at EPCOT, the Festival of the Holidays promises that same feeling of joy in each of the eleven represented nations. Though each has its own unique culture and customs, a sense of familiarity propagates throughout every narrative. Weaving in and out of each story like the sweet aroma of holiday treats, the infectious, abundant merriment found Here could only inspire curiosity and an appetite for discovery. (6:00) Our yuletide celebration begins at the forecourt of the World Showcase, where an unseen orchestra welcomes us with a symphony of classic holiday carols. Encircling the vast Lagoon is a collection of the most renowned destinations, their talismans and notable landmarks towering high over the heads of awestruck travelers. Each have gathered for this International Festival of the Holidays, to share their cherished traditions and divulge the legends that have been passed down through the generations. With so many enchanting stories to step into, this crossroads begs the question: where to begin? Clockwise, of course! (7:12) The vibrant tapestry of color and music emanating from our left draws us into the heart of a joyous celebration in Mexico - ¡Feliz Navidad! All around us, the vibrato of mariachi song mingles with vivid hues of fuchsia and yellow to join the traditional red and green. Poinsettia flowers thrive in the warm, sun-bathed climate, and the intoxicating aroma of arepas, tamales, horchata and jalapeño engage our senses and hold us captive in their assertion. The Mayan pyramid which stands sentinel at the heart of the pavilion carries on the Navidad festivities with vivacious decor to echo the mood redolent throughout the pavilion. Inside the eternally twilit Mercado, we find a host of holiday merrymakers shopping and dining by the waterside canal, taking leisurely boat rides or sampling the nation's finest tequila. (9:00) This pavilion is alive with laughter and memories in the making, and we get to catch a glimpse of what it might be like to celebrate the season in Oaxaca or Mexico City, wandering the open air markets and listening to the animated excitement of the locals as they share their plans for the holiday with one another. (11:33) Back outside in the real-time sunshine, the talented vocalists and violinists of Mariachi Cobre regale us with beautiful holiday songs. Their jubilant geniality and heartwarming song lifts our spirits as their music soars and lilts around us. Dancers join the mariachi to tell the tale of Las Posadas. (12:34) Las Posadas is a ritual reenactment of a very select part of the Christmas story, wherein Mary and Joseph, imminently anticipating the birth of their son, earnestly seek lodging in Joseph's hometown of Bethlehem. As they are turned away again and again, their hope wavers even in the light of their great mission for God, until one kind soul offers the safety and warmth of a stable and a bed of sweet-smelling hay. Let's pause in this place for a moment to hear this beloved story, preserved through the ages and upheld by a melody to revive even the most enervated soul. Clap along and dance for joy; in Mexico, every day is a fiesta! (21:05) From ¡Feliz Navidad! to Good Yul! we make our way past the Royal Summerhus and onto the fjords of Scandinavia, bidding the last reverberating notes of Mariachi Cobre a fond farewell. Here, we find festive touches bundled up in fair isle sweaters and plenty of yuletide cheer to keep us warm on a long winter's night. Beloved for its picturesque winter scenes and mysterious legends of Norse gods and Vikings, Norway has a cozy, whimsical feel around the holidays. Sweeping fjords bordered by tiny kingdoms and towering stave churches lend an air of storybook Magic to this enigmatic part of the world. Frosted and gilded with glimmering icicles, Norway is a winter wonderland at the approach of the Solstice, with long, starry nights offering breathtaking views of the majestic Aurora Borealis. Here, St. Lucia's Day inspires a Festival of Lights to honor the Winter Solstice. Fires are lit to enliven the night and ward off sinister spirits, and young girls wear wreaths of candles on their heads to pay homage to St. Lucia's martyrdom for her faith. Here in this quaint Norwegian village, we find no shortage of festive decorations and inviting aromas. The Kringle Bakeri is warm and inviting, laden with sweetly spiced lefse, ornate kransekake, and skolebrød sprinkled with snowy coconut. Who could resist stopping in for a spell, to escape the cold and share a moment of sugary joy. Shops adorned in wreaths and holly are full of holiday bustle, while in the square outside, travelers gather to hear the story of a beloved holiday figure as he is known and loved by Norwegians. (21:40) Julenissen is the cunning and clever barn “Santa” who brings Christmas presents to children. In Scandinavian tradition, a nisse is a silly, temperamental spirit tasked with caring for and ensuring the prosperity of the family he watches over. In the mid-nineteenth century, Julenissen became the spirited and generous gift-bearer to not just Norwegians, but many Scandinavians. He embodies the jolly nature of our more well-known Santa Claus, with all the mystique and lore of a guardian spirit, though his love of porridge and hiding in hayloft is a bit of a departure from cookies and milk by the fireside. His antics delight visitors of all ages as he spontaneously appears while a local woman, Sigrid, retells the timeless story of Julenissen and his integral part in the Norwegian holiday season. Let your heart be light as you listen to the tale of this jovial holiday legend. (34:55) With the ringing of the Yule bell, our Christmas celebration in Norway comes to an end. A new year is just around the corner, and so we are invited to step into a very different narrative, one which dates back to ancient times and is highly revered by the people of China and their rich, enduring culture. (35:45:) Chinese New Year is a time of hope and reflection, of gratitude and resilient optimism. Also known as Lunar New Year, this ritual dates back over three thousand years to the Shang Dynasty, when it was observed as a winter festival to honor the gods and ancestors. In an effort to thwart the vicious agenda of the beast, Nian, people wore red clothes, burned bamboo, and made commotion to scare him away. Today, the celebration continues as a more entertaining endeavor. Chinese families gather to exchange gifts wrapped in red paper, set off firecrackers and fireworks, and stay up late enjoying delicious, “lucky” food at a reunion dinner. (37:00) One of the most recognizable Chinese New Year traditions is the incredible Lion Dance, which is either watched or performed by Chinese citizens and in Chinese communities across the globe. In China, the Lion symbolizes good luck and prosperity, strength of body and mind. With the new year at hand, the Lion Dance is performed to chase away evil spirits and bring good fortune to all in the months ahead. Vibrant and astonishing to behold, this custom is unlike anything we experience in the Western world. While it evokes the same festive, whimsical persona as parade floats might do Here at Walt Disney World, the spiritual resonance and cultural significance of this tradition leave us awestruck at the millennia of history and heritage speaking through this majestic creature and the magnificent ceremony at hand. Let's pause, once again, before we travel back to Christmastime. Be Here With the Magic of this ancestral story and its sounds still echoing through the ages. (44:50) Across the bridge from China, a lively, percussive interlude meets our ears in the African Outpost. A space often overlooked by travelers on their way to the pavilion beyond, the Outpost has some of the most beautiful views of World Showcase Lagoon. A marketplace mottled with the crafts and creations of traveling artisans, the vibrant rhythm and fascinating array of trinkets make this the perfect place to find a stocking stuffer or Hanukkah present as we pass through on our way to the next holiday story. Move to the beat and feel the gentle breeze drifting across the lagoon as you stroll along with us to the Bavarian village adorned in Christmas charm. (46:20) Germany is the country wherein many of our most beloved holiday traditions find their origin. The first Christmas trees were decorated and displayed in German homes in the seventeenth century, laden with roses and apples, candies and other sweet delights. Hand-carved wooden nutcrackers said to protect families from danger were given as tokens of good luck, and still today are such an iconic symbol of the season. Christmas angels are found in nearly every German home, passed down through the generations as symbols of those talismans of Christmastime: hope, love, peace, joy, and togetherness. During the month of December, Christmas markets pop up in cities and towns all over the world, seeking to emulate the look and feel of the original Weihnachtsmarkt in Germany. Stalls huddled together beneath majestic pine trees are hung with holly and ribbons and draped in sparkling lights and, if you're lucky, a fresh blanket of snow. The cozy feel and evident yuletide cheer mingles with the inviting aroma of warm gingerbread and roasted chestnuts, like a Christmas scene right out of a Hallmark card or a Dickens novel. Friends and family meet to enjoy a glass of mulled wine or a sizzling bratwurst, exchange season's greetings, or browse the selection of handmade ornaments and decorations from local crafters. Here at EPCOT, a quaint Bavarian town has been transformed into an exquisite storybook village alight with holiday Magic. Red and gold baubles gleam from their garlands and wreaths adorning every shop and lampost, in every corner of this charming Alpine alcove. The smell of sweet caramel and savory schnitzel rises on the melody of a Christmas polka, inviting our senses to decide whether or not to assuage or deny our sweet tooth. Shouts of “Prost!” and the clinking of steins signify an exuberant celebration, as visitors share stories and laughter by the fountain in the center of the square, inside the Weinkeller, and in between bites of strudel. Children crane their necks to watch in awe the confectioners and glass blowers at work on their beautiful (and often delicious) creations. A chink of warm light spills into the square from the Die Weihnachte Ecke, the Christmas Corner where German Christmas decorations and centuries-old traditions are displayed and sold year-round. Find a blown glass Christmas pickle to hide in your tree on Christmas Eve, an Advent calendar to count down the days with your family, or an ornately hand-crafted Nutcracker to stand sentinel on your mantel, waiting for Der Weihnachtsmann - Santa Claus! Encumbered by gifts and treats and a pretzel the size of wagon wheel, it is time to wish a Frohe Weihnachten (Merry Christmas) to Germany, the Weihnachtsmarkt, and all the Magic of the season in this European Christmas fairytale come to life. As we bid Auf Wiedersehen to the merry tunes, luscious sweets, and joyful memories we've made Here, we can hear the accordion music shift and crescendo as we continue our whirlwind holiday tour in…Italy! (50:40) Residing in Southern Europe and bordered by the Mediterranean, Italy's diverse landscapes, ornate architecture, and largely Roman Catholic population make it an international destination during the holiday season. From the snow-capped Alps in Northern Italy to the romantic canals of Venice and the sovereign grandeur of Rome, every region offers its own idiosyncratic customs and cuisine to accompany the merriment. In the North, the joy of Christmas morning begins at midnight with a torch-lit ski trip down the mountains. In Rome, Italians attend Christmas Eve Mass at the Vatican, where the Pope himself presides over the congregation to relay a message of peace and goodwill while a choir fills the palatial space with glorious song. One of the most eminent hallmarks of Italian culture is the importance of gathering together with friends and loved ones to share a meal and purvey gratitude for the gift of life and each other. At Christmastime, this ritual takes on an even greater meaning. Deliciously irresistible delicacies and traditional feasts are at the heart of the holiday for Italians during this month-long celebration. On Christmas Eve, the Feast of the Seven Fishes is a traditionally meatless custom that includes seven (yes, seven!) courses of seafood to begin the holiday on a pure and healthful note. Then, all is undone by the plethora of regional sweets that adorn holiday tables in homes across the country. Panettone is the perfect accompaniment to a Christmas morning cappuccino, while a Roman breakfast spread might include spiced mostaccioli pastries. In Siena, cavallucci flavored with almonds, anise, and bejeweled with candied fruit dance of the palette and recall sweet memories of holidays past. All throughout Italy, tables groan under the weight of such tantalizing treats, while laughter rings from the rafters and glasses are raised high in hope and joyous revelry. Here at EPCOT, we find a replica reminiscent of a Christmas scene in Piazza San Marco, complete with garland and lights strung up along the archways of Doge's Palace and wrapping the wrought iron lampposts casting halos of light onto the stone benches and the towering Campanile. The genuine counterpart of this Venetian square also plays host to a multi-story tree comprised entirely of golden lights, with a gleaming Star of Bethlehem burning brightly into the night from on high. (51:20) Here, the square remains open and inviting, elegant and refined. The raised platform at the center serves as a sort of stage to welcome our final guest of honor, a most enigmatic and benevolent figure called La Befana. Her story is legend, dating back to as early as the eighth century, and helps to account for the reason why, in Italy, Christmas is celebrated well into January. As she tells her tale of Christmas, of how she has searched in earnest for the Christ child each Epiphany Eve for more than two thousand years, listen to the yearning in her voice, the longing to complete her quest, and the generosity of spirit that she has displayed throughout her journey. La Befana leaves gifts and sweet treats for Italian children on the evening of January 5th, hoping that she will find the Christ child in her travels. In exchange, families leave a glass of goccia di grappa (Italian brandy) a wedge of cheese to fortify as she goes. And although she declined the invitation of the three wise men to accompany them on their way to visit the baby Jesus, she has never given up her dream of finding him and paying homage with her own humble offerings. Legend tells of her diligence and unwavering faith, her kindness, and the hope that guides her on her way. She is undeterred and tenacious; her spirit cannot be broken at the notion of her dream finally being realized someday, somehow. La Befana's story is the perfect place to pause on our holiday tour of nations. Listen to her words, the passion in her voice as she inspires us to seek the desires of our hearts, to say “yes” in the year to come - to new adventures, chance encounters, and quiet moments of joy and reflection at all of the wonders that surround us. The holiday season is a time to turn back time and contemplate, not just the triumphs and trials of the year gone by, but the moments in between. These are the moments of waiting, of wondering, of wishing and willing reality to pan out half as well as our daydreams. They are the moments of pause and peace and utter contentment that stand out in our memory as prominently as our highs and lows. They are the “before;” before the sun comes up, before the day winds down, before the clock strikes midnight and we welcome in a brand new year. Let's create more of those moments this holiday season. Let's find more Magic in the mundane, more wonder in the waiting. Like La Befana waiting in wistful longing for the appearance of the Christ child, like the anticipation of a season of joy and togetherness, or of the arrival of a sprightly barn Santa, these moments of “before” are charged with such a palpable energy, it could only be described as the Magic of the holiday season. And so, until we continue our yuletide expedition around the world, we hope you'll find a moment to step into these timeless and beloved holiday stories. Find a narrative that resonates with you, that fills you with a sense of nostalgic joy or curiosity. Listen to the sounds of the season, both near and far, and let your heart be comforted by the holiday traditions that never fail to find us and bring us home, year after year. As our holiday journey continues, we hope you'll come along and be a part of it all. Let us bring you into the realms of enchantment that live Here, onto the pages of this living storybook that spans the generations. Let your heart be light. Let your spirit be lifted up, adorned with Christmas cheer, and Here, as always, With the Magic.

Season 2, Episode 20 - What is your Perfect Disney Day? What is your Perfect Disney Day? Hey everyone, I'm Mike, she's Sophie, and that's Brenda, and we're On the Road with Mickey! This is Season 2, Episode 20 for May 17, 2021, and our feature topic today is What is your Perfect Disney Day? We each devised our perfect Disney day, and we look forward to hearing what your perfect Disney day is as well! Grab a drink, relax, and join us as we talk about all the things that we came up with! Here's our rundown of what we talked about: Cheddar from the Big CheeseMike: In further moves towards a return to normal, Walt Disney World and Universal have reduced or are reducing the physical distancing requirements from six feet to three feet. However, at Walt Disney World specifically, the six feet distance is still in force in all dining locations, merchandise stores, and areas where guests can temporarily remove their masks (i.e. relaxstation stations).Sophie: Disney has launched a new line of sensory-friendly plush characters! Stuffed animals are always a great thing, but these plush characters feature a 2.5 pound weight that can be removed, and the material is softer for those who have issues with how certain things feel. You can get them at Disney Springs and they retail for $39.99. Current characters are Mickey, Minnie, Stitch, Eeyore, and Pooh.Brenda: Over at Ghirardelli's in Disney Springs, you have got to check out the Ghirardelli Ocean Beach Sundae! It's $12.95, and features Vanilla Ice Cream, Sea Salt, Caramel Sauce, and handmade Hot Fudge topped with Whipped Cream, Sea Salt, and a Ghirardelli SQUARES Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate candy.Mike: Lastly, we've got a bit of gossip! Nothing confirmed, so take this with not just a grain of salt, but perhaps a 5 pound bag...there is a rumor that Epcot Forever could return to World Showcase Lagoon for a limited time later this year! Personally, I just don't see this happening. With the work that's been done for the platforms for Harmonious, I think that would get in the way of the show. What do you think? Let us know in the comments! Also, if you haven't ever seen Epcot Forever, you can check out the live premier here: https://youtu.be/SXGENzdg29U?t=639 I set the timecode to start where the show actually starts in the video.Connect with us! Just before the craziness of March 2020 happened, I had been going through a park by park, land by land journey through the Walt Disney World Resort. We journeyed together down the middle of Main Street USA and throughout the Magic Kingdom. We also went on an adventure through Future World and around the World Showcase Lagoon at Epcot. In this episode, we take our initial dive into Disney's Animal Kingdom taking a look at attractions, shopping, dining, and more! --- Facebook Instagram Travel Planning johnrogers@travelmation.net St. Paddy's Day Tatchos

On this episode of the We Like Theme Parks Podcast, the Battle of the World Showcase Lagoon is back!!After a huge holiday season, a bunch of New Year's resolutions and then romantical Valentinish fun, the War of the World Showcase rages again with our last semi-final! Jumping into the fray this week is Epcot nerd Gabriella from @wdw_bathrooms, who will represent the spiciest pavilion of all, Mexico! She will face off with the number 1 seeded and Frozenly IP'ed Norway pavilion. And who will be holding down the fjords of Norway, but none other than the Showcase bad boy himself, it's Bondo! And then, Miriam and the gang are going to unpack the latest news at Volcano Bay and talk about the highly anticipated "A Touch of Disney" event coming to DCA! All the details and opinions are coming forthwith amigos!Who will reign supreme in this clash of Epcot juggernauts and move on to the finals against France! All this action and even more nonsense, right here on the 123rd episode of the We Like Theme Parks Podcast!
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your spot for anything and everything Disney! There’s lots of news this week, so better get into it! With restrictions easing up in California, talk of Disneyland reopening has ignited. Across the country, Disney Parks posted our first looks at the newly-renovated rooms at the Polynesian Resort, which pays great tribute to Moana without hitting you over the head with it. In keeping with the theme of the pandemic, Disney announces it will close 60 Disney stores across the US. Sunshine Tree Terrace revealed it’s beautiful new Orange Bird wall. Finally, Harmonious barges have invaded World Showcase Lagoon. (Seriously, they look like alien spaceships.) This week, we go through each section of the park, Main Street, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, and Tomorrowland, and retool what the park would look like after a massive update from Disney's newest Imagineers: us! (To be clear, we are not Imagineers. We just thought it'd be fun to play one for a day!) We take some MASSIVE liberties by picking up and completely moving rides, magically creating a lot more space, and treating money as absolutely no object. And, heck, why not just make new lands altogether? Why not create a Frozen-themed restaurant? And for goodness sake, Disney, give the people what they want: more pie! (Or is that just me?) Let us know what you think on our Facebook page. Have a magical day! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
We visit Epcot on a beautiful Spring day as we see blossoms and topiaries in full bloom during this year's flower & garden festival. It begins at the entrance of the park, where new flag stanchions, and a beautiful new score welcomes guests as they first enter the park. We check out flower & garden favorites such as the butterfly corner in Future World and the container gardens in Italy. We talk not only about what is unique during the festival, but what things you can see all year around such as the rooftop plantings in Norway and the train Garden in Germany. And did we mention topiaries? Lots of beautiful topiaries can be found throughout. We also check out several eateries during the festival, offering reviews of the food and visiting World Showplace. The new "Stargate" has been placed into World Showcase Lagoon, and we offer thoughts and insights as well as discussing the openings of the new gelato location in Italy and Space 220 in Future World. We cap off the experience as we see the new lighting package in the front of the park. Epcot looks more promising than ever as we see this newest park transformation. This month's news: • In American theme parks it’s really been a story of two coasts. California has accepted the worsening Covid situation over the last month while Florida has continued to ignore the fact that anything is happening. • In southern California, a new Regional Stay Home came into effect, as ICU capacity in the 11-county region has dropped below the prescribed 15 percent. This spelled the end of numerous planned Christmas events including the Taste of Knotts Merry Farm and the Holidays at Legoland event at Legoland California. • Disney has respond to the stay at home order by moving one of its famous food offerings. The iconic Disneyland hand-dipped corn dog is now on the menu at the Magic Kingdom's Sleepy Hollow. • Disneyland did share a preview of its newly redesigned Snow White ride in Fantasyland, which will be renamed Snow White’s Enchanted Wish. • In Florida, all the resorts have increased capacity again, with universal Orlando having 4 days over the Christmas break where they reached full capacity. • They also did a vehicle reveal for their up coming Velocicoaster. • They also opened Universal's Endless Summer Resort - Dockside Inn and Suites, adding 2,050 budget-priced guest rooms for visitors to the resort. • At Epcot they’ve opened the new fountain and entrance plaza. • They installed the massive new platforms that will help stage the upcoming Harmonious nighttime show on World Showcase Lagoon. • The woman who started the Ratatouille musical on TikTok was flown from New York to get a sneak peek at the new Ratatouille ride. • And they announced the "Taste of Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival" will run from March 3, 2021 through July 5. • In general WDW news, Disney's Blizzard Beach water park will reopen to guests for the 2021 season on March 7. • Outside the US is also a mixed bag, with Europe largely closed as the second wave hits hard over there. Efteling was the biggest park to close in December as most of the others had already closed. • In Japan, Tokyo Disney has announced its pricing will increase on weekends and holidays from March 20th. • Probably the most exciting theme park news for this month was from Universal Studios Japan, where we got our first official glimpse inside Super Nintendo World with a video hosted by the creator of Mario Shigeru Miyamoto. The video was packed with insane details of this much anticipated land, and is very much worth watching. • The land is also in a soft opening phase, where annual pass holders can preview the land, with strict rules around the distribution of media from the land. The official opening date of the land is February 4th, 2021.

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - This episode John and I take in the Epcot's new Nighttime Spectacular - Epcot Forever! Filled with nostalgia, will this get a high rating? Tune in and find out! Recorded on January 13, 2020. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. Let’s head to Walt Disney World’s Epcot tp see the new, temporary, Nighttime Spectacular Epcot Forever. The guide map describes the show by saying, “Journey through the past, present and future of Epcot at this fireworks spectacular.' Since this is a show there are no height requirements for it and FastPass+ is available. 1. In September 2018, it was announced that Illuminations: Reflections of Earth would be having its final run at Epcot before a new show debuts in 2020. It was also announced that a temporary nighttime spectacular called Epcot Forever would bridge the gap between Illuminations and the new show. Illuminations Reflections of Earth, which we covered on episode 83 of Attraction Checklist, closed forever on September 20, 2019. Epcot Forever debuted the very next night, on Epcot’s anniversary, October 1, 2019. 2. Epcot Forever features all new arrangements of classic Epcot songs by conductor and composer Don Harper. 3. The score for Epcot Forever which includes classic songs like ‘One Little Spark’, “Living With The Land” and “Veggie Veggie, Fruit Fruit’ was recorded by a full orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London, England. 4. Epcot Forever features fireworks, lasers and lights, just as Illuminations did but also adds in what Disney calls ‘special effects’ kites. Large kites with light up tails that are pulled through the air by jet skis on the World Showcase Lagoon. 5. Epcot Forever is scheduled to have its final performance sometime in 2020. Let’s go experience Epcot Forever. With me this time is John B. deHaas and after the show we’ll give you our thoughts on it. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's head to Epcot to bid a fond farewell to IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth! Recorded on August 17, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. It is time for Attraction Checklist to visit EPCOT in Walt Disney World and bid a fond farewell to the nighttime spectacular knows as IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Before IllumiNations ended, the guide map described the show by saying: The World Showcase Promenade comes alive nightly with the brilliance and splendor of music, lights, lasers, water fountains and custom pyrotechnics in our signature nighttime spectacular, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Since this was a show there were no height or age requirements and FastPass+ was available. Before we gather around the fire one last time, here are 5 fast facts about IllumiNations. 1. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth debate at EPCOT in Walt Disney World on September 22, 1999. This show was a revamped version of the previous IllumiNations shows that was created for the year 2000 Millennium celebration. When it debuted it was called IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth. The show proved to be so popular that after the Millennium Celebration ended, the show continued, dropping the 2000 from its official name. 2. To drive the Millennium Celebration theme home, World Showcase Lagoon was surrounded by 19 torches representing the first 19 centuries of the common era. At the end of the show, the iconic globe opened and revealed a 20th torch for the 20th century. 3. The show’s signature globe was over 3 stories high and was the world’s first spherical video display system. 4. The control booth for the show is located above the Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase. The show uses more than 65 computers scattered around the park on 40 separate locations. 5. On April 9, 2019, the Disney Park Blog announced that after 20 years, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth would close to make way for new shows. The show had its final performance on September 30, 2019. Now it’s time to blow out the torches one last time. I’ll give you my thoughts after the show audio. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we enjoy, for the last time, EPCOT’S IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth! Be sure to check out some of our previous shows and also look into Twin Pines Chalet! Corrections / Notes Our first set of corrections/notes comes from an anonymous source - after they listened to some of our previous episodes they had a few notes: From Episode #2 Amongst the Plexiglass Trees – The Contemporary - the third floor of the Contemporary Resort actually houses the restrooms for Chef Mickey's and is accessed from the fourth floor. On this week's feature discussion episode of the All About the Mouse Disney podcast, one of our listeners, Stefani Barnett, joins me to talk about the experiences she and her family have had watching the amazing Epcot nighttime spectacular, Illuminations, from the comfort of their own private boat adjacent to the World Showcase Lagoon. Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Marina is the place where you can charter your own private fireworks cruise boat complete with captain and take in the show from a perspective that you can't get anywhere else. Together, we'll review the experience and talk about why you might just want to book this experience on your next Walt Disney World vacation.
Len Testa starts off this week’s show by talking about his visit to the newly opened Surfside Inn & Suites, which is Phase One of Universal Orlando’s Endless Summer Resort. Jim Hill then looks back at Skyleidscope, Epcot’s initial attempt at staging a daytime extravaganza out on World Showcase Lagoon. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is the marquee attraction of Disney's Hollywood Studios. In this episode, John and I check in to the Hollywood Tower Hotel to review Tower of Terror! Recorded on March 20, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode John B. deHaas and I return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to ride one of the park’s signature attractions, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror! The guide map describes this attraction saying Take a thrilling ride into the twilight zone aboard a haunted elevator. Guests must be 40 inches or taller to ride this attraction. The thrill level describes it as a Thrill Ride with Big Drops that is loud and scary. Fastpass+ is available. Before we visit the Hollywood Tower Hotel, here are five fast facts about The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 1. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 22, 1994. 2. In order to get the perfect free-fall effect for guests, imagineers actually attached cables to the bottom of the elevators to pull them down faster than a regular free fall would. The elevator cars can reach speeds of 39 miles per hour! 15 times the speed of a regular elevator. 3. In 2004, the attraction was reprogrammed to use a randomized series of drops. This provides each group of guests with a completely different experience each time they ride. This led to the promotional slogan: Never the Same Fear Twice 4. The attraction’s pre-show was directed by director Joe Dante, known for directing such horror films as Piranah, The Howling and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. 5. One of my favorite Tower of Terror facts is that it can actually be seen from EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon! The top of the Tower of Terror was decorated so that it blended in with the skyline of the Morocco pavilion and be less noticeable. Now it’s time to ride The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror! After the ride, John and I will discuss our thoughts on this attraction so stay tuned for that. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we ride The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! "The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." This fitting quote originates in the Disney film from which my favorite warrior princess comes from: Mulan. According to the Emperor of China, Mulan is worth fighting for, as "you don't meet a girl like that every dynasty." As I just finished a trip to the magical world of Disney and witnessed the beauty of Epcot's International Flower and Garden Festival, this quote seems most appropriate. However, if we are to take these words of wisdom at face value, then the flowers in Walt Disney World must face more adversity than we could ever imagine. For there are no more magnificent topiaries than those residing around World Showcase Lagoon. Take a trip with me in this episode of Keep Moving Forward as I discuss this memorable vacation and all the new happenings that I witnessed in the wonderful world of Disney.
Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can't actually be there. Today, we'll pick up as we leave The American Adventure, cross over the World Showcase Lagoon in one of the Friendship Boats, and head back into Future World to go ride Soarin' finally. Show notes: https://wdw-memories.net/2015/05/01/memory-139/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Each Fall Since 1995, Epcot has been host to the International Food & Wine Festival. Epcot is transformed into a culinary festival with experiences featuring everything from samplings and demonstrations to celebrity book signings and festival themed merchandise. I could spend all day in the festival center… but the main draw of the food and wine festival are the 30 kiosks surrounding Epcot’s World Showcase Lagoon. This week, the Mouse Lounge celebrates a birthday and takes a trip around World Showcase! First up, a Mouse Lounge Special Feature: The BBCs Russell Davis looks at how the archives have treated to the two faces of Walt Disney. Uncle Walt, who brought laughter and pleasure to millions, and… the rather tough businessman and social engineer. Enjoy the first of a five part series, Double Disney. Next, from the Disney Archives, we dust off an old Capital Records album , DBX-3365 from 1954, as Disney Characters from countless films and shorts come to celebrate at Mickey Mouse’s Birthday Party. Then, from Vault Disney: We travel to Epcot Center, circa 1982, as Danny Kaye introduces us to the wonders of World Showcase. Each show we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West. Enjoy a musical trip around World Showcase featuring the talented artists and music groups who perform each day, ending a Mouse Lounge mix of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. We close the show with a pair of musical soundtracks inspired by World Showcase. First, is the Laserphonic Fantasy. This show made its debut on the World Showcase Lagoon in June 1984 and as the name implies featured lasers including the first use of non-continuous lines in a laser animation and the first use of laser graphics on a water-droplet screen. Most of the soundtrack can be found on Don Dorsey's album "Busted". Lastly, culling from le crème de la crème of French Romantic and Contemporary classical music, Impressions de France ranks as among the best soundtracks to be found anywhere in Epcot. This week we travel to EPCOT for a viewing of Illuminations: Reflection of Earth. We stood between the Japanese and American Pavilions and as you can see got an amazing shot from when the globe started to come out into the World Showcase Lagoon. This performance of ROE is different than the typical shows. Can you figure out how?
