Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout opened at Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort in May 2017. While many thought the new attraction would be a simple retheming of Tower of Terror, which had lived at the park since 2004, Joe Rohde and his team of Walt Disney Imagineers thought about the new experience on a much deeper level, creating a ride that most Anaheim locals and even vacationing guests feel is an even greater experience than the park's version of Tower of Terror. As it turns out, the attraction would also be a proving ground for Avengers Campus, which would be announced for the park just a couple years later. In this episode, we'll discuss the history of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout and the Tower of Terror that it replaced. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - The Halloween celebrations continue with a ride on Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark at Disney California Adventure.  Recorded on October 2, 2018. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. Halloween is here and it’s time to take a ride on another attraction that has received a Halloween Overlay! Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark at DisneyCalifornia Adventure.  Located in the Hollywood Land area of the park (for now), Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark is described on the Disneyland website by saying: Join Rocket in his thrilling race to rescue Groot during this daring Halloween adventure!  Guests must be 40” or taller to ride the attraction and FastPass is available.  The Thrill level describes the attraction as being a Thrill Ride with Big Drops that is Dark Loud and Scary. Before we head back in to the Collector’s Fortress, here are five fast facts about Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark. 1.  Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout, the retimed Tower of Terror, opened on May 27, 2017.  In August of 2017, it was abounded that the attraction would have a special Halloween overlay called Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark.  The overlay debuted on September 15, 2017. 2.  Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark is unique in that the ride only switches over to the Halloween Overlay after sunset!  So guests can ride two different versions of the attraction in one day!  Mission Breakout in the morning and Monsters After Dark at night.  It only takes about an hour of downtime to switch between the two.  On October 31st, the attraction features Monsters After Dark all day. 3. The events in Monsters After Dark take place moments after the events seen in the regular ride.  The Guardians of the Galaxy have escaped but Groot got left behind and it’s up to guests to help Rocket find him.  If you need a refresher of the regular ride’s storyline, go back and listen to episode #32 of Attraction Checklist where we covered that ride. 4.  The attraction also receives a new lobby video that is filled with scenes of The Collector’s employees trying to get the creatures who escaped in Mission Breakout back in their cages.  There’s also a brief cameo by the Guardians of the Galaxy character Yondu who appears a a ghost roaming the halls! 5. Monsters After Dark also features a brand new song as you’re riding the attraction.  The tune, called Monsters After Dark, was written by Tyler Bates who scored the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Let’s get set to ride Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark.  After the ride audio, I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction and this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we ride Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark at Disney California Adventure. Things are getting cosmic, as we review a James Gunn short film about a small boy coping with the loss of his mother. Then, for some reason, they decided to tack on some weird space movie after it. Who knows what they were thinking in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). But perhaps we should look beyond what we see. And beyond the Guardians, it looks like I can see Timon and Pumbaa finally get to give their side of the story in The Lion King 1 1/2 (2004).  Notes: Loudoun County, Virginia Marvel Super Hero Island Universal/Marvel Deal Walkman “The Corbomite Maneuver” Philosophy of Identity Death of the Author Laika Howard the Duck Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout! http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Join John B. deHaas and I as we brave the Matterhorn mountain and ride Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds!  Recorded on July 27, 2018. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. Let’s head to Disneyland to conquer one of the park's many mountains!  It’s time to ride the Matterhorn Bobsleds.  The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying, "Careen through a snow-capped mountain on a speeding alpine sled while avoiding the clutches of the mythic Abominable Snowman." Guests must be 42” or taller to ride and Fastness and Single Rider options are available for this attraction.  The thrill level describes the Matterhorn Bobsleds as being a Thrill and Water ride with Small Drops that is Dark, Loud and Scary. Before we begin our mountain climbing adventure, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds. 1.  The Matterhorn Bobsleds opened at Disneyland on June 14, 1959.  Located on the border of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, the Matterhorn Bobsleds was not officially a part of any land until the 1970s, when the attraction became a permanent part of Fantasyland. 2.  The Matterhorn Bobsleds holds the distinction of being the first tubular steel roller coast in the world. 3. The ride’s famous Abomidable Snowman was given the name Harold by Disney Imagineers when he took up residence in the mountain in the 1970s. 4. On January 5, 2015, the ride began an extensive refurbishment to install new new effects and updated animatronics for Harold.   One of the original Harold figures can now be spotted in the Collectior’s Collection at the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout attraction at Disney California Adventure 5. Yes, the rumors are true.  There is a basketball hoop inside the Matterhorn.  While not a regulation sized half-court, there is a basketball hoop and playing area in the attraction that is said to have been used by the mountain climber who scaled the mountain regularly to wave at guests down below. And now, let’s ride the Matterhorn Bobsleds.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after we ride, we’ll give you our initial thoughts on this classic attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we are about to experience, the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to experience the Marvel Universe in the Disney Parks as we explore Disney California Adventure's Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout!  First we'll learn a bit about the ride and then join Rocket Raccoon to help the Guardians of the Galaxy escape The Collector's fortress. Recorded on June 27, 2017. The attraction audio recorded for this episode is available exclusively to the Saturday Morning Media Patron Patron.  Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia INTRO TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Disney California Adventure to experience Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout!  The guide map describes the attraction in the following manner: Join Rocket on a thrilling mission to rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy from The Collector’s fortress! Guests must be 40” or taller in order to ride this attraction and FastPasses are available. Before we head out on our rescue mission, here are five fast facts about Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout! 1.  Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout! opened on May 27, 2017.  The attraction is a, somewhat controversial, rethemeing of the park’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror which opened on May 5, 2004 and closed January 3rd, 2017.  Mission Breakout uses the same ride system as the previous attraction but the queue area and storyline of the ride has been completely changed. 2.  Mission: Breakout is based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy and stars the original actors from the film.  Though the attraction is somewhat linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the story and events of the attraction exist in their own, separate, universe called the Marvel Theme Park Universe. 3.  Keeping with the original Tower of Terror, each ride on Mission: Breakout is unique thanks to computer randomization.  Also, as guests experience the attraction, they will hear one of six random songs played from character Peter Quill’s walkman.  The six song possibilities are "Give Up The Funk" by Parliament, "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf, "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar, “Free Ride" by the Edgar Winter Group and “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley. 4.  Throughout the queue area of the attraction there are several  Disney Easter Eggs hidden here and there.  These include: an invoice from X-S Tech the company behind the old Alien Encounter attraction, a tribute to Gonzo from The Muppets, and Dolores the octopus from the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown.  There are also those who say if you look at the Collector’s collection hard enough, you may just spot Figment from Walt Disney World’s EPCOT! 5.  In August 2017, it was announced that Mission: Breakout! would receive a halloween themed overlay after sunset during the halloween season at California Adventure.  The new overlay is called Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark.  The ride features a brand new song called Monsters After Dark written by Tyler Bates, who’s scored the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Now let’s help Rocket Raccoon free the rest of the Guardians team!  The line was extra long this day so there will be some edits in the audio so you don’t have to wait in real time.  After the ride audio I’ll give you my thoughts on the attraction as you’ll be hearing my review moments after riding for the first time.  Also, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we ride Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout!. Trevor AND Joe Cortez (yay!) are off gallavanting, so I called up Leslie Harvey from Trips with Tykes to discuss hosted media previews and bias in blogging/media coverage. Both of us have experience in this area as it results to Disney, but we also discuss how it may or may not creep into the miles and points space. Speaking of media previews, Leslie just checked out Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout in Disneyland and I visited Pandora the World of Avatar at Disney World, so we end the podcast with some Disney discussion! This week on the All About the Mouse Disney podcast we talk about the must-do places to eat in Walt Disney World for first-timers. There are so many amazing and unique places to eat on Walt Disney World property, but how many of these places would you recommend to someone who is visiting the parks for the very first time? You want you first visit to Walt Disney World to be filled with great first impressions, so we’re going to run through some of the must-do places to eat that have some aspect that shouldn’t be missed on your first trip. They might now all have the very best food, prices, or atmosphere, but when you add everything up, they total up to an experience that shouldn’t be passed up on your first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort. In the news this week, Pandora – the World of Avatar opens in Disney’s Animal Kingdom with tremendous crowds and incredible wait times, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout, likewise, opens to intense crowds and lines at Disney’s California Adventure park, iTunes celebrates the opening of Pandora with specially-priced “Avatar” movie downloads, classic Disney animation is set to be auctioned off, and much more! We have some brand new additions to add to the All About the Mouseketeer Roll Call this week also. If you’d like to become an official All About the Mouseketeer, send us an email to podcast@aatmcentral.com and tell us who you are as well as where you’re from. In addition to the Roll Call this week, we’re going to read a couple of emails from listeners who had some interesting comments on some of our recent episodes. At the end of the show, we’ll announce the winner of our “Remember Dreams Come True” audio trivia question posed back on Episode 212. All of this and much more lies ahead on this week’s episode of the All About the Mouse Disney Podcast – your weekly dose of Disney magic and mayhem.

Fist, Funko's first Disney Treasures subscription box "Pirate's Cove" has arrived, and we review the vinyl collectibles inside. Is the subscription worth maintaining? We'll give you our two doubloons! Next, Disney Legend Lea Salonga performed in San Francisco, and Jeff was there to report on the concert; and finally, we welcome Brian Crosby, Creative Director of Themed Entertainment for Marvel Entertainment, to speak with us about Marvel's role in upcoming projects at Disney Parks and beyond. Crosby talks about how Marvel has started working its way into the parks, overcoming many fans' initial skepticism to become an integral part of the Disney experience due in part to its unique brand of storytelling. We also discuss "Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout" and talk about the design, the story development, the music, and the process of putting together a completely new experience from this irreverent franchise. Plus, Marvel meet 'n greets - we have suggestions for Disney!

Go Mouse Scouts | Visiting Disneyland and Disney World with Kids | A Fan Podcast Bringing you Disney Park Tips & Family Fun!

Megan & Kris talk about what's scary at California Adventure (Disneyland Park is in a past episode) for young kids preschool aged and younger.   Fear's Guide to What's Scary at California Adventure We're mainly pointing out California Adventure Attractions that can be scary for kids 5 and under (preschool age) or a 40 inch height requirement and lower.   Hollywoodland Monsters Inc: This ride is a dark ride and features monsters. If your kids are familiar with the movie Monsters Inc., the monsters really aren't scary at all. Parents, use your discretion.   Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!: Having not opened as of the time of this recording, we really can't speak to this attraction, though it can be assumed that it will still be thrilling, especially since they're not changing the ride concept.    Bugs Land It's Tough to Be a Bug: This is a 3D show that features startling aspects, smells and other interactive elements. Also, the villain from the movie, Hopper, makes an appearance which may be frightening to young ones.  All Rides are ok: This is basically a "kiddie land," with all rides being designed specifically for young children.    Cars Land Radiator Springs Racers: This is a dark ride, as well as a thrill ride. The beginning bakes you through various scenes from the movie Cars as you're gearing up for a race, which takes up the second half of the ride as you speed through a race course. A couple things you'll encounter in the dark ride portion are the harvester vehicle and an oncoming train.  Luigi's Rollicking Roadsters: There's nothing really scary about this ride.  Mater's Junkyard Jamboree: This is a ride in which you ride in trailers that spin around. It can tend to be a little rough and if your child doesn't like spinning, you might want to move onto something else.    Paradise Pier Little Mermaid: This is a dark ride that features scenes from the classic movie The Little Mermaid, including a scene with Ursula, the sea witch, which may be scary for young kids.  Toy Story Midway Mania: This is another dark ride which is a fun interactive game. Between sections though, the cars spin rather vigorously and may be an issue for youngsters.  Triton's Carousel: It's a carousel, have fun!  Mickey's Fun Wheel: This is basically a Farris Wheel with some fun modifications! Some of the gondolas (which you can choose) are on a track the makes it swing more than a normal gondola would swing. Plus, you have the heights. The gondolas are enclosed though, so it's safe.  Mickey's Silly Symphony Swings: The issues you'll deal with here are swinging and heights.  Jumping Jellyfish: This is a ride that takes you up high, and then lowers you down again. Think if it as a kiddie version of the Hollywood Tower of Terror without the "terror." Goofy's Sky School: This is a mini roller coaster with sharp hairpin turns and extreme ups and downs. It's a little rough too and the vantage points might be scary for young kids riding with you.    Grizzly Peak Grizzly River Run: this is a fun raft ride that takes you through some rapids with plenty of spins, drops, and water. It is a bit if a thrill ride, and you will get wet! Soaring' Around the World: This is a wonderful ride that basically takes you up into a video projection transporting you to different places around the world as if you're visiting them via hang glider, granted, a very large hang glider that seats about 75 people. Simulated heights would be the biggest scare factor here.      Come Join Our Facebook Group!
