On this episode, The Barretta Brothers take questions from the Live Youtube chat, with special surprise visits by Muppet performer, puppeteer, producer, and director, Kevin Clash. Plus, actor, voice actor, Muppet performer, puppeteer, Tyler Bunch. ABOUT OUR HOSTS: Gene Barretta & Bill Barretta “What are they up to now?” That was the popular question around their house and neighborhood while growing up. It was not unusual to see Gene and Bill dressed up in homemade costumes – filming Super 8mm dramas – attempting risky stunts in the ravine – animating GI Joes and weird-looking clay figures – building and performing clunky puppets – drawing offbeat comics, - and imitating The Beatles. Today, life isn't very different. In addition to personal projects and various acting roles, Bill has been a director, writer, producer and core performer with The Muppets for nearly 30 years. Gene is an award-winning author and illustrator of children's books. He has also animated and illustrated for Sesame Street, Between the Lions, and The Jim Henson Company. The best part of their careers is that they occasionally get to work together! Unfortunately, no one will pay them to imitate The Beatles. ABOUT OUR GUESTS: Kevin Clash: Kevin Clash is best known for Elmo (Sesame Street) 1979-2012. He also was part of Labyrinth (1986), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 (1990) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (1991), Happy Time Murders (SFX) 2018, and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Netflix) 2019. In addition to Elmo, Clash is also known for performing Splinter (TMNT) Baby Sinclair (Dinosaurs), and Clifford (Muppets Tonight). Kevin Clash has won 29 daytime Emmys, over one hundred fifty -six performing title credits, thirty- one producing title credits and twenty- seven directing title credits. In 2011, his documentary, Being Elmo, was awarded the Special Jury Prize at Sundance. He has appeared in numerous television specials, commercials, feature films and direct-to-video products. During his career, he has worked with great innovators who founded the classic puppet television industry including Kermit Love, Frank Oz, and Jim Henson. Clash has recruited, auditioned, and trained puppeteers from all over the world. He was the senior puppet coordinator, and was also a director, co-producer and senior creative adviser on Sesame Street. Kevin was essential to the success of Elmo's World and the creative branding powerhouse of Elmo. Business Insider states that in 1996 the toy company Tyco saw their sales grow from $70 million to an astounding $350 million thanks to the Tickle Me Elmo Doll. Clash's most recent project, Earth to Ned, will be airing on Disney+ this Fall and he currently has several projects in development. Tyler Bunch: Tyler's work as a puppeteer has appeared in productions like Sesame Street, Bear in the Big Blue House, Between the Lions, and Crank Yankers. As an actor, he has appeared in The Electric Company, Law & Order “Criminal Intent” and “Special Victims Unit.”

Episode Outline: 03:15mins: Conversation about the character Robbie Sinclair. Day Murch, Steve Whitmire, Leif Tilden, and Lisa Rocco join Gene & Bill. 25:27mins: Conversation about the character BP Richfield. Jane Gootnick joins Day, Steve, and Leif. 40:30mins: Conversation about the character Charlene. Bruce Lanoil, MIchelan Sisti, and Jill Thraves join Gene & Bill. 1:07:00mins: Conversation about Baby Sinclair. Kevin Clash, Terri Hardin, John Kennedy, and Jane Gootnick join Gene & Bill. ABOUT OUR GUESTS: Jane Gootnick With college degrees in both acting and set design Jane first moved to Europe working in Belgium and London. In the mid-70's she moved to NYC working with alternative theatre groups (LaMama, Joe Papp's Public Theatre). Jane became head sculptor at Brooks Van Horn Costume Co. making props, masks and creatures for a large variety of venues: Broadway shows (Sweeney Todd, Dracula, Peter Pan), feature films (The Wiz, Hair), Warner Bros walkarounds, commercials, Ringling Bros Circus, and the first four seasons of Saturday Night Live. In 1978, the costume designer for SNL mentioned that the Jim Henson Company was looking for sculptors for a film called The Dark Crystal and suggested she interview. Jane was offered three weeks work to build a prototype support harness for the Skeksis they were developing. So, she left her three-year full-time job for three weeks of work at Henson's and stayed 40 years! Jane has worked in both the New York puppet shop and the London Creature Shop throughout the years. Designing/building puppets and creatures, supervising builds, and running workshops on location for Muppet/Henson films and TV series, (Dark Crystal, Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Labyrinth, The Storyteller, The Witches, Ninja Turtles, Dinosaurs, Muppets Tonight, The Muppets, etc.). She has also worked on a variety of talk shows, game shows, and awards shows (Oscars, Grammys, Hollywood Bowl and many more). Jane is an art director for print and media photoshoots, film posters and endless fashion shoots with Miss Piggy with Louis Vuitton, Prada and other diva designers. Steve Whitmire Jim Henson invited Steve Whitmire to join his team in 1978 during the height of the popularity of The Muppet Show, and Whitmire had a hand in virtually every Muppet project for nearly four decades. He originated such characters as Rizzo the Rat, Lips the Trumpet Man, Miss Piggy's dog Foo-Foo, and Bean Bunny, and also sustained Richard Hunt's characters, the hapless lab assistant Beaker and codger Statler after Hunt's death in 1992. Upon Henson's death in 1990, Whitmire accepted the duty for the continuation of several of Jim's characters and is best known for his 24-years as Ernie and his 27-years as Kermit the Frog. Projects include Sesame Street and non-Muppet films such as The Dark Crystal, The Witches, Dreamchild and Labyrinth, as well as the popular sitcom Dinosaurs and the classic 1980's television series Fraggle Rock in which Whitmire originated Wembley Fraggle and Sprocket the Dog. After 19 films, 8 television series, numerous specials, multiple sound recordings, and volumes of unique live appearances, Whitmire carries forth the essential principles of the lineage as the foundation for a progressive approach to the art of puppetry in today's world and looks forward to sharing that spirit in his future endeavors. www.stevewhitmire.website Leif Tilden Leif Tilden watched his mother drink herself into a deep depression while living with her in Berkeley California during the late 60's free love movement. After her suicide he moved to Boston Massachusetts where he grew up in a segregated environment where the Irish, Italian and black neighborhoods beat each other up daily. Eventually he would find himself studying experimental theatre in New York City where he discovered his vulnerability through movement and the incredible falafel sandwich. Soon after that, which to him seems like a dream, he found himself inside the soul of a Teenage mutant ninja turtle. Life was good. Soon after that he drove across country for a minimum wage job on a tv show entitled, Dinosaurs for Disney. Life was not good and Leif will explain the details as to why on the show. Day Murch Day worked in the theatre for many years, as a performer in Liquid Theatre, with Stomu Yamashtas Red Buddha Theatre, and the Young Vic, with appearances in provincial rep and the West End, gradually commuting a hobby of designing and making clothes into a career. An early introduction on Time Bandits to the Monty Python team led to a specialist interest in the care and presentation of difficult costumes, with work on The Meaning Of Life, Greystoke, Legend and Fifth Element and several projects for Jim Hensons London Creature Shop. This led in time to making this type of costume and he headed the Fabrication Unit for Nick Dudmans Department of Magical Creatures for the initial Harry Potter Movies, building Hagrid and other fantasticals. In children's television he helped create characters for In The Night Garden , BoohBahs and Zingzillas. He enjoyed a longterm association with the Batman franchise as Batsuit Wrangler with all the Caped Crusaders except Adam West! Now happily retired with his life partner in Wales, he doesn't miss show business. Bruce Lanoil Bruce ”B” Lanoil, spawned in Brooklyn N.Y., raised on steady diet of Saturday morning Cartoons, Sugary cereals, Mad Magazines, Jerry Lewis and Classic Star Trek, is today, a proud and grateful 30 year veteran Muppeteer,.. Oh, the beaten path was never in the mix! As a Theater major at Cal State Northridge, a vaudevillian improvisational clown at heart, fate truly lent a “hand” when Master Puppeteer Tony Urbano chose Bruce from hundreds, for Sid and Marty Krofft's exclusive 1980 workshop. Many Commercials and videos followed, furthering his performance skills with Master teachers, Paul Sills, Avery Schreiber, (Spollin Theater Games), and Harvey Kalmanson (V.O.). Destiny and Jim Henson came knocking when Brian Henson cast Bruce as “Charlene Sinclair”, in TV's DINOSAURS for five glorious seasons on ABC/Disney (1990-93). Animatronics and Facial Puppeteering was a specialty as Bruce traveled the world complements of the incomparable Jim Henson Creature Shop, both in Films, Dr. Doolittle (1998), Adventures of Pinocchio (1996), Jack Frost (1998), Cats and Dogs 1 & 2, (2001 2010) and Television, The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss as The Cat in the Hat, Nickelodeon Season one (1996). Bruce helped pioneer Real-time CG animation with Henson's HDPS-Digital Puppetry System, Are We There Yet (2005), Francis (2008), Sid the Science Kid Movie (2012) and partnered with Dave Barclay Studios Where the Wild Thing Are (2009), and Ice King (2017). Muppet madness included MuppetVision 3D (1991),The Muppets Live at the Hollywood Bowl (2016),The O2 (2018), recent FEATURE FILM/TV reboots, The Muppets (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014), and Muppets Tonight (1996), Muppets (2017). Live-action Reference Puppetry, Mon- keyBone (2001) Henry Selick Dir.,and Looney Tunes-Back in Action (2003) Joe Dante Dir., and nu- merous V.O. gigs, including voicing Lion King's TIMON (SAFTY SMART! video series) for Disney. Bruce is extremely grateful for lifetime of collaborative joy and laughter, and believes, that Everyone deserves to give themselves the Inner Permission to pursue their truth and passion freely, with an open heart. As a Teaching Artist, his quest is to release fear and doubt, allowing each learner and Artist the opportunity to connect, to share, to Soar! We stand upon the shoulders of all creative souls before us, that enables every single voice to tell Their story, their version, of life's unpredictable magnificent journey, while illuminating all our lives with the Magical Gift of Play :) Michelan Sisti Michelan began his performing journey as a musician, then an actor with multiple Broadway roles, which directly led to him becoming a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in the original live action movies (Michelangelo). Being Mikey, evolved into our ultimate animatronics show, “Dinosaurs”. The coolest suit show EVER! Since then, Mich has enjoyed 26 more years of Muppets and other neat things with puppets and motion capture. He has loved every minute of the trip. Jill Thraves After growing up in the countryside of Yorkshire and Derbyshire I moved to London to attend University. Got my degree in French and went straight into making clothes and cotumes for dancers, musicians, strippers, and royalty. Bill Wyman, David Bowie, Freddy Mercury, Jimmy Page, Princess Margaret, were some of the people I dressed. Through friends I started working in films and tv., Time Bandits, The Meaning of Life and Labyrinth were early jobs. Labyrinth led to Mother Goose Stories and an Emmy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and then Dinosaurs! So after 20 years I in London I came to Los Angeles. Since then I have worked on a lot of Superhero films, from Batman to Avengers and Guardians. I seem to have made a lot of capes! Batman to Thor and many in between.

Sebastiano has “Puppetry Dreams” me it all started with Barney, the purple dinosaur. A recent college graduate, he was a double major, literally building his puppetry degree like we would with one of his own puppets. He has not only Interned at the Jim Henson Company in New York, but he has created and built puppets of his own, and that’s only the tip of the foam iceberg. He lives and dreams puppets and Muppets, and is destined to be up in the ranks alongside Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Dave Goelz, Richard Hunt, or Kevin Clash. I hope his dreams come true, and I hope you enjoy the interesting conversation I had with Sebastiano as much as I did. There is a load of info about Sebastiano online, but please be sure to check out his website: www.sebastianoricci.com (*Not to be confused with the Italian painter who died in the 1700s.) Thank you for listening.

Another world, another time - in the age of wonder... Beccy Henderson decided she would become a puppeteer. Beccy is the incredibly talented performer behind Deet in Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and also appeared in Pajanimals, That Puppet Game Show, and Wildwoods. She also appears as a human actor in another Netflix series, Derry Girls. We talk to Beccy about her journey from an early fan of creature movies like Gremlins, to a serendipitous invitation for a puppeteer workshop at Northern Ireland's Sesame Street co-production Sesame Tree, and eventually ending up as a main character in the Dark Crystal prequel series. Tune in for her unique insight into the rigors of performing such complex creatures, what it was like working with Henson-era performers like Kevin Clash and Louise Gold, and how her puppetry experiences have re-framed her work as an actor. Episode note: (correction) Beccy refers to overhead cameras used for Skeksis as "POV" or "Point of View cameras", they are actually known as "Witness Cams". Other body suit performers on Dark Crystal: AoR, however, did use POV cameras out the front of costumes for additional vision. This episode is dedicated to the late Terry Jones, who (among his many accomplishments) wrote the screenplay for the topic of Will & Jes's conversation: LABYRINTH, the 1986 cult classic starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie. Topics include: the film's appeal to all age groups; the power of nostalgia; use of fantasy tropes to tell a very original "coming of age" story; the deep mythic and psychological underpinnings of Labyrinth's themes of growing up; celebrity deathmatch: Jareth the Goblin King vs. Freddy Kreuger... and much more. TV SHOW REVIEW: Another world, another time! We're back at it again with The Dark Crystal, the Jim Henson Company's epic fantasy tale, and diving headfirst into the new Netflix series, and. it's. AMAZING! A dark and twisted tale, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is not only frightening, menacing, and undeniably sinister, it's romantic, heart-warming, and awe-inspiring! It's the sort of show that only comes along every once in a while, the sort of creativity and majesty one can only dream of! By golly, you need to watch it! If you need some convincing, then press that play button, because I'm going to do my best to sell this to everyone I can. Trust me, it's worth it! Tune in Wednesday nights for new episodes of Cinematic Doctrine! Welcome back, dear listeners! We took a brief hiatus so Alex could get his silly laptop in the shop. So now that we're back, after a brief update on what's happened in the world of Broadway, it's onto the weirdest movie we've watched yet: Jim Henson's "Labyrinth," starring minor-age Jennifer Connelly as a feisty heroine, dozens of dirty-looking puppets, and David Bowie's codpie- we mean, David Bowie! This week, we go all in on the plot of this super-’80s movie that just so happened to be a musical. Like, how ridiculous it is that Jennifer Connelly didn't just check her baby brother's diaper, the level of creepiness of a 40-something rockstar romancing a teenager, and how familiar this story and its themes actually were once we got past the Shart Lake City of it all. Join us as we go for a trip into the "Labyrinth"...hope we don't meet any scary headless birds or talking hands! On this episode of Talking Late Night, Max interviews Lucky Yates, the voice of Dr. Krieger on the hit television show "Archer," a professional puppeteer who worked puppets for "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland," a host on "FilmStruck," and an actor who has been featured repeatedly on "Good Eats." Lucky (originally Matt) Yates is from Detroit, Michigan. After attending college at Wayne State University, he made the jump into showbiz and moved to New York City. After spending a few years there, he decided to make his way down to Atlanta, GA where he has been ever since. When he got to Atlanta, Lucky discovered his love for puppets and since then has been a major player in the puppeteering world (even getting the chance to perform Oscar the Grouch for Kevin Clash (the man behind Elmo) for an audition). Lucky voiced Xtacles on "Frisky Dingo" and now you can hear him on the critically-acclaimed FXX show "Archer" as Dr. Krieger! If that's not enough for you, Lucky has also been featured regularly on "Good Eats," and is very good friends with Alton Brown. He even had Thanksgiving dinner at his house once. You can find Lucky performing at Dad's Garage and can follow him on Twitter! Thank you for tuning in! Be sure to like and share our Facebook page here, and also rate and leave us a review on iTunes!

It’s a fabulous and hilarious Riffin this time around when Eric Hahn comes out to talk gay lifestyle, homophobia, oral sex, and more just in the first 10 minutes. Mitcz and Teddy discuss how gay they are as a percentage (and Teddy’s percentage grows over time). We discuss at some length the Kevin Clash (Elmo) sex scandals, growing up gay, and we bust into some news regarding vocabularies, explaining subjects to odd characters, the trend of a return to American manufacturing, and we all learn a thing or two about a thing or two.
Say your prayers, the FUHcast has risen! Jim blesses the show with a Rundown. The guys talk about the controversial "Happy Holidays" greetings and if people are too P.C. with their intolerance. A small discussion on horrible holiday music happens before discussing the 3rd accuser of Elmo performer Kevin Clash. Jim reminds everyone that he is not a Joss Whedon fan and reviews the short lived Firefly series. FUH recounts the recent Powerball lottery drawing and how everyone in social media got fooled into over sharing things in the hopes of reaping false profits. CBS's Two and a Half Men can't seem to catch a break when the half a man, Angus T. Jones, joins a cult-like cult and denounces his career to whoever will watch and listen. Bill tells everyone (again) what he thinks about CBS's Big Bang Theory and Jim tells you (again) why he loves NBC's Community. Prostitutes in Switzerland are finally being boxed in for their own protection because the Germans thought it was a good idea. Jim nearly destroys this episode without using his hands. Dr. Phibil makes a brief appearance to endorse Bonertown, Jim's favorite nerd destination. To close out this beast, the guys discuss the Ouya and other smart Android devices that are changing the way we consume all things entertainment. Bill has some good and bad news about the Wii U's launch and explains why he won't be buying the Wii U enhanced port of Mass Effect 3. A new listener writes in to discuss a horrible song of the 80s. First time caller Sarah has some strong opinions about Tony Harris and his war on cosplay. FUH breaks down the sex scandal that is currently plaguing the man behind The Street's Elmo, Kevin Clash. It unfortunately no longer matters who shot JR, as Larry Hagman recently passed away. Chevy Chase excommunicates himself from NBC's Community. Did Puppeteer, Kevin Clash call it quits? Why did journalists and guests felt that Rihanna "777" tour flight was not what it appear to be? Why did Nicki Minaj revealed that Mariah Carey is one of her favorite artist? Why was there an altercation at actor/comedian Mike Epps' birthday celebration? And is R. Kelly's song, "Trapped in the Closet" heading towards Broadway? Tune into "That's Entertainment" with Tammy Jones-Gibbs for the latest in entertainment news and pop culture on Wednesdays, November 21 @ 1pm ET.
Our old pal Dusty Rhoads FINALLY comes out to riff with us after many failed attempts and we get deep into a number of topics like 80s Videogames and Batman movies but also serious topics like Prostate Cancer and Kevin Clash’s (voice of Elmo) recent scandal (and about rape accusations both real and fabricated). This episode is gonna split your head open and play around with your brain pieces. Oh, and… Happy Thanksgiving.
It's time for another Gobbledygeek Thanksgiving! This year, in lieu of being sociable and actually talking to other human beings, Paul and AJ decided to watch the Bat-Turkey-approved ThanksKilling and ThanksKilling 3, all about a murderous turkey being all murder-y. While they find the first ThanksKilling awful but sort of funny, they have not a single nice thing to say about ThanksKilling 3. This episode is mostly just them consoling each other. Maybe they'll talk to people again next year. Plus, the boys discuss the closing of Hostess and the recent (recanted) allegations made against Kevin Clash. Next: we're taking a week off to recuperate from ThanksKilling 3, but also to celebrate Thanksgiving itself. So happy Thanksgiving! (We won't inform Bat-Turkey of your dinner plans.) When we return, it will be with the third annual Gobbledygeek Gift Guide.
Welcome back to another week of Cocktails and Cream Puffs. This episode is just wrought with questions and thoughts to ponder. First we discover that the loveable Sesame Street muppet, Elmo is gay or rather the muppeteer Kevin Clash who is now being accused of relations with an underage boy. Clash admits to the relationship but says the boy was not underage. What will this long term do to Elmo's reputation as the loveable red fury friend? Next, when is it okay to intervene when you believe someone may be doing harm to themselves or to others? Finally, Joey makes an apology to a friend and along the way ponders why do we accept behavior that we don't like from some people and not from others? Many questions this week and very few concrete answers. What do you think? Visit our Facebook page and tell us. Also, the clock is ticking to get in your postcards for our Fabulous Creamie Gift Basket Giveaway. On next Monday's LIVE show on Pride48.com we will choose our winner! www.cocktailsandcreampuffs.com
The film revolves around 15-year-old Sarah's (Jennifer Connelly) quest to reach the center of an enormous otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother Toby, who Sarah wished away to Jareth, the Goblin King (David Bowie). With the exception of Connelly and Bowie, most of the film's significant characters are played by puppets produced by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Kevin Clash, Elmo, and Constance Marks - "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey": Meet the Filmmakers
The voice of Elmo (Sesame Street) shares his love of puppeteering and the head of Walt Disney Animation reaches out to those striving to work in entertainment.
Kevin Clash performs Elmo on Sesame Street and Leslie Carrara-Rudolph does the same for Abby Cadabby. We have them live in the studio talking about puppetry, children’s television and adult humour. Also, Wil Anderson joins us on the phone to discuss The Gruen Nation. It’s really good. Really it is. RSS feed iTunes or listen […]
We spoke with Kevin Clash via telephone at his New York City office for the February edition of the monthly Be more Tuned In podcast. While you might not instantly recognize Clash's name, or even his deep voice, you probably know his work. To most of the world, Clash is the Emmy-award winning Muppeteer of Elmo, the lovable furry red monster from Sesame Street. The mp3 podcast conversation can be downloaded here and can be enjoyed on your personal computer or loaded onto your personal mp3 player for on-the-go listening. With a lifelong love of puppetry, Clash has turned his childhood passion into a successful, high-profile career. And while Elmo is probably (and justifiably) his best-known work, Clash also has been involved in a number of other big-time puppet projects in the past 30 years. He's worked and voiced a number of Muppets on various Jim Henson productions. He brought the energetic Baby Sinclair to life in the television series Dinosaurs. He was the giant mutant rat Splinter in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. He also worked on various creatures in the fantasy film Labyrinth. As Elmo, Clash has been able to travel with the three-and-a-half-year-old monster around the world. He's visited the White House. And he's voiced two of the biggest-selling toys of all time -- Tickle Me Elmo in 1996 and the Tickle Me Elmo TMX this past year. Most importantly, Clash and Elmo have been instrumental in the positive development of millions of children that watch the long-revered Sesame Street, which can be found on WPT at 8 a.m. weekdays.
