00:00 Introductie 02:19 Persoonlijk Nieuws Overzicht

Episode 312: Mandy Sijbrandij talks about running it like you own it, the observation wheel experience and managing grief

AttractionPros Podcast

Mandy Sijbrandij is the Owner of Global Leisure Management (GLM), a third-party management company for attractions.  GLM oversees the full operation of the business, including hiring employees, managing them, putting policies in place, and running the day-to-day operations, maintenance, marketing, along with accounting services.  This allows the owner to turn over the daily operations to a trusted operator.  Most notably, GLM operates SkyWheel Attractions, which can be found in Panama City Beach, FL, and Myrtle Beach, SC.  During GLM's early days, however, Mandy lost her husband, and she opens up with her personal story of loss and grief, while still moving forward to launch the business.  In this interview, Mandy talks about running it like you own it, the observation wheel experience, and managing grief.   Running it like you own it “If I'm in a position to fix something or make something better - and every employee is - then I want to do that, and I want everybody on the team to have that same mindset.” When someone owns a business like an attraction, they have both a financial investment in the property and an emotional investment, which requires an operator that will treat the property the same as the owner would.  Mandy shares that this requires frequent communication between GLM and the operator, setting proper terms of the agreement, and then running it as if they own it themselves. The mindset of running it like you own it extends beyond the management company; it is also how leaders show up to work every day when they talk the talk and walk the walk, as well as with frontline employees.  Mandy stresses the importance of sharing the successes of the business with the team so they can see how they can own their own jobs within the influence that they have.   The observation wheel experience "You can use the wheel as the biggest and best billboard." An observation wheel is a Ferris wheel, but a Ferris wheel is not an observation wheel.  An observation wheel is a modern take on the carnival-style Ferris wheel, though the cabins are often larger and can house more guests, there is usually heating and air conditioning, and perks and amenities that a Ferris wheel does not offer.  Not only are they often built in scenic locations that offer guests a spectacular view, but they are also beautiful pieces of architecture that complement any skyline. Observation wheels can be marketed as an enhanced experience compared to a traditional Ferris wheel often because they are taller, offering sweeping views of the area around them, and can make any location more iconic by intriguing nearby visitors.  It's also an experience that can be done with a group or a family that might not ride a roller coaster together, yet on an observation wheel there are nearly no limitations to riding.   Managing grief "We're never really talking about grief, and we need to." In late 2022, while Mandy and her husband Eward were in the beginning stages of forming GLM, Mandy suffered a tremendous personal loss when Eward suddenly passed away.  Mandy expressed that her previous employer, Koch Development, always treated her like family and instinctively pushed back the transition of SkyWheel's management to the newly created company.  This allowed her to focus on her family and not on work or the logistics of GLM's launch, which was pushed until mid-February. This event has led Mandy to reflect on how employers manage grief within their own employees and even their guests.  What does your bereavement policy look like?  Does it show empathy toward the employee's situation, or is it focused on the needs of the business?  How flexible are your cancellation policies if a guest has a death in the family?  Do you train employees on how to treat guests going through difficult life situations?  You may never know what someone is going through at any time.   To learn more about Global Leisure Management, visit www.glmattractions.com. To reach out to Mandy directly, connect with her on LinkedIn.   By the way, if you visit Paradise Pier in Biloxi, you can meet Eward the Dutch Duck, inspired by Mandy's husband.   This podcast wouldn't be possible without the incredible work of our amazing team: Scheduling and correspondence by Kristen Karaliunas   To connect with AttractionPros: AttractionPros.com AttractionPros@gmail.com AttractionPros on Facebook AttractionPros on LinkedIn AttractionPros on Instagram AttractionPros on Twitter (X)

Disney's Boardwalk Resort and Disney's Paradise Pier resort are both in close proximity to the second gate parks on both coasts. Disney's Boardwalk is a thoroughly Imagineered resort from top to bottom. It has theming details that will blow your mind. So many that we had to carry them over to our "after hours" show we release on our facebook page . Disney's Paradise Pier (soon to be Pixar) resort is a lightly overlayed hotel built by a Japanese conglomerate in the 80s. Both hotels have access to the second gate of each property. They both keep you in the "Disney Bubble", they are moth similarly priced but which resort will reign supreme as the best bang for your buck when staying on property at either Disneyland or Walt Disney World? This July marks the 10th anniversary that a 2.0 Disney California Adventure was re-dedicated by Bob Iger. At the expense of some 1.1 billion dollars, this was at the time the most comprehensive park redo ever attempted. Still, in the first year of re-opening, park attendance went up some 23% and it became far more equal in terms of balancing out the number of guests visiting it and its sister park, Disneyland. We will look at the attractions, restaurants and experiences that became extinct as a result of this re-investment, particularly as it relates the Golden Gateway and Sunshine Plaza, Bountiful Family Farm, and Paradise Pier. We'll look at all that went away, and what ultimately came in its place 10 years ago and later. Frequent Walt Disney World guests will often ask me if Disneyland is worth a visit. Not surprisingly, the answer is a resounding yes! Disneyland is an especially magical place for Disney fans, and even for those who infrequently visit Disney, there's a good reason Disneyland is called the "happiest place on earth". With two incredible theme parks (Disneyland and Disney California Adventure), Downtown Disney, and three Disney Resorts (The Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Grand Californian, and Disney's Paradise Pier), Disneyland packs an enormous number of attractions, dining options, entertainment and activities into a space so small that you can easily walk from one end to the complete opposite end of the resort in a matter of 10-15 minutes. In this episode, I'm joined by Brooke McDonald and Philander Butler to discuss our tips, strategies and advice for planning a first visit to Disneyland. We discuss the reasons you should consider making the pilgrimage to Disneyland, differences between the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, where to stay (including some incredible "good neighbor" options), how many days to visit the parks, Genie+, and more. Mickey's Mix Magic lit up the night with a special 4th of July segment added to the end. The crowds for this performance were huge and looked like Disneyland before the pandemic. Once the show was over, getting out of the park took a while since the park closed soon after. – https://www.micechat.com/295512-disneyland-update-red-white-boo/ With the recent 4th of July celebration here in the US this past week, the Disney Parks Blog posted about the Flag Retreat Ceremony and it returning to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom on July 1st. Disneyland's flag retreat has been happening daily since the reopening on April 30th. The ceremony is one of the park's oldest traditions. The flag retreat ceremony happens daily in the late afternoon in Town Square. The park calendar has the Haunted Mansion going down for refurb from August 15th through September 3rd. This typically means only one thing! Haunted Mansion Holiday could be returning this year! Disney has not confirmed this at this time, but it seems likely. – https://www.micechat.com/295512-disneyland-update-red-white-boo/ Guests are once again enjoying the frosty peaks of Matterhorn Mountain, since it has reopened as of July 2nd. Also, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln also returned to the Opera House this week for guests to enjoy and take in some great air conditioning. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/07/02/photos-matterhorn-bobsleds-has-reopened-in-disneyland/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/07/photos-video-great-moments-with-mr-lincoln-reopens-at-disneyland/ and https://www.micechat.com/295512-disneyland-update-red-white-boo/ Coco is coming to the parks, but not exactly in the way we had imagined. On July 17th, a new Coco scene will be coming to Mickey's PhilharMagic in Disney California Adventure. “Un Poco Loco” will anchor the new scene, with Germaine Franco, one of the original composers from the movie, producing the score that is unique to the show. Disneyland Paris will also debut the addition on July 17th, with Disney World getting it for their 50th anniversary. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/07/disney-and-pixars-coco-coming-to-mickeys-philharmagic-on-july-17/ Disneyland Paris welcomed guests back to its parks recently, and with that a new FastPass option that may come to the US parks as well. Premiere Access, not to be confused with the same name as Disney+ Premiere Access, allows guests to purchase one “Premiere Access” at a time, ranging from $9.50 to $17.75, depending on the attraction. Some attractions will also have a virtual queue, which could mean the only way to ride an attraction is to pay for it. – https://www.micechat.com/295719-disneyland-update-summer-gets-normaler/ With all the great, happy news coming out of the resort lately, there is a bit of disappointing news as well. Disneyland officials have said that “options are being considered” for both locations. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/07/01/disneyland-permanently-closes-2-restaurants-including-a-steakhouse-rich-in-disney-history/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/07/02/news-2-restaurants-set-to-permanently-close-at-disneyland-resort/ The World of Color lagoon has some sad sights for fans of the nighttime show. The wooden structures that house the show lighting near Pixar Pier have been removed, showing extensive work in progress. This means that it is unlikely that the show will return in the near future. – https://www.micechat.com/295719-disneyland-update-summer-gets-normaler/ Maurice's Treats at the Princess Fantasy Faire has a new sweet menu item. The new item is a trio of Madeline cookies themed to Snow White, Belle, and Aurora. Snow White is flavored like chocolate chips, Belle has a citrus flavor, and Aurora tastes like raspberry. The treats have a mild flavor and are not overly sweet. They are not on the menu, so guests may have to ask for them. The trio is $6.49. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/07/01/photos-can-you-guess-which-princess-inspired-these-new-disneyland-treats/#more-515248 Luca fans will be very excited for this next DIY treat! Tim shares many stories from his career with WED Enterprises and Imagineering, including his time working on EPCOT Center, working for the company when Michael Eisner became CEO of the Walt Disney Company, and his work on Disney's California Adventure Park. We look at an overview of the park and discuss the budgeting challenges Imagineering faced, the theming of the park, the design of the entrance plaza and California Screamin', and the changes that have happened at the Disneyland Resort over the years.

Is Paradise Pier Worth The Cost For Disneyland with Kids? (Ep 1.28)

Disneyland With Kids Podcast

The Paradise Pier Hotel at Disneyland Resort is one that is appealing to many families who want to stay at a Disney owned property, but don't want to pay the big bucks for the Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian. But is the Paradise Pier Hotel worth the cost? What is the theming of the hotel? Is it Disney enough? How far is the walk to the parks from Paradise Pier Hotel? We are covering it all for you in this episode of our podcast. The Paradise Pier Hotel at Disneyland Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel is a popular option for families that want all the on-site perks from a Disneyland Resort hotel, but don't want to pay the big bucks. But unlike Walt Disney World, Disneyland's cheapest hotel is in no way a value resort. We are diving into this hotel and covering everything from theming, to room layouts, amenities, and distance to the parks, all in an effort to discover if this hotel is worth it's price tag. And what is that price tag? You might be shocked to find out. In This Episode Here is what you can look forward to in this episode of the Disneyland with Kids Podcast Should You Stay At The Disneyland Hotel? In this episode, Julie, from Mom Rewritten, and Becca, from This Crazy Adventure Called Life, discuss Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. From layout, to dining, and even the price tag, they are sharing everything they know so that you can decide if it is worth the cost to stay at this hotel. The Paradise Pier Hotel is often a draw for travelers who want the perks that come with staying on site, but want a smaller price tag than the other Disney owned properties at Disneyland. The hotel was not originally a Disney owned property, but Disney purchased it in 1995, calling it the Disneyland Pacific Hotel, Renaming it Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel in 2000. Does the fact that it was not originally a Disney property show? Is the hotel up to date? And what is the strangest part about this hotel? Before we get to the show notes, let's talk about planning your Disneyland vacation. If you are hoping to head to Disneyland Resort when ticket sales resume, we suggest booking through our partners at Get Away Today. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Join John B. deHaas and me as we 'Dash' off to Disney California Adventure and experience the newly retimed Incredicoaster!  Recorded on July 27, 2018. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode, we head back to Disney California Adventure and check out the newly rethemed Incredicoaster.  The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction by saying, “Buckle up for an exhilarating ride into the world of The Incredibles on this newly re-imagined attraction!”  Guests must be 48” or taller to ride this attraction and Fastpass and single rider is available.  The Thrill Level describes the attraction as being a Thrill Ride that is Loud with Big Drops. Before we Dash off to ride it, here are five fast facts about The Incredicoaster. 1.  On November 2, 2017, Disney announced a renovation of Paradise Pier that would turn it into Pixar Pier.  The area’s signature attraction, California Screamin’  would close down on January 8, 2018 and reopen as Incredicoaster on June 23rd, 2018. 2.  The Incredicoaster is not merely a roller coaster, it does have a storyline.  Taking place after the events of Incredibles 2, the Parr Family gets a roller coaster named after them.  Edna Mode agrees to watch baby Jack-Jack because both of them are too short to ride the attraction, but Jack-Jack escapes as the ride takes off and the Incredibles must work together to reign in his chaos. 3. The figure of Mrs. Incredible aka Elastigirl that appears the second tube of the ride measures 53 feet from head to toe. 4. A total of 19 figures of Jack Jack appear throughout the ride. 5. Michael Giacchino, who scored both Incredibles films created the music used on The Incredicoaster and in the queue area of the attraction. Let’s get set to save the day with the Incredibles.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and, seeing as this was both of our first times on this attraction, we’ll give you our initial thoughts after the ride audio.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we are about to experience, The Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure. On this episode we head back to Disney California Adventure to take a spin on King Triton’s Carousel of the Sea!  Located in the Paradise Pier, soon to be Pixar Pier section of the park, the guide map describes this attraction in the following manner:  Ride a whimsical Carousel of Sea Creatures.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes this ride as a spinning slow ride.  Before we climb aboard our sea creature, here are five fast facts about King Triton’s Carousel of the Sea. 1. King Triton’s Carousel of the Sea opened with Disney California Adventure on February 8, 2001. 2.  The carousel features 56 sea creatures to ride on and two water chariots. 3.  There are 7 different types of brightly colored sea creatures to ride on. These include sea otters, dolphins, flying fish, sea horses, whales, sea lions and Girabladi Fish. 4.  Each of the sea creatures is carved and painted by hand. 5.  Along the edges of the carousel's canopy there are 16 icons depicting famous California seaside amusement parks.  These include Santa Monica Pier,  Ocean Park Pier, Loof's Pier and Playland at the beach. So let’s take a ride on King Triton’s Carousel of the Sea as it is today.  Along for the ride is Suzie and after we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic ride as this is my first time on the attraction.  This is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience King Triton’s Carousel of the Sea at Disney California Adventure! As a companion piece to last episode, this episode we are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.  The guide map's lackluster description of this ride says, “Be part of Ariel’s world aboard this attraction!”  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as bing a Loud, Dark Slow Ride. Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure. 1.  Located in the Paradise Pier (soon to be Paradise Park) section of Disney California Adventure, The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure officially opened on June 3, 2011.  It took over the spot in the park previously occupied by Golden Dreams, a film about the history of California narrated by Whoopi Goldberg. 2.  The statue of King Triton on the attraction’s exterior was related there from the, now defunct, Triton Gardens in Disneyland. 3.  The mural that can be seen in the ride’s load area where you board your clam-mobile is 86 feet long and was painted entirely by hand. 4.  The animatronic figure of Ursula in the attraction is the biggest on the ride measuring 7 1/2 feet tall and 12 feet wide.  5.  This attraction boasts a tribute to the movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet, a film where Don Knotts turns into a fish named Mr. Limpet.  In the Under the Sea sequence of the ride, Mr. Limpett can be spotted directly across from where Ariel is dancing. So now, let’s ride The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s’ Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure and see how it compares to Magic Kingdom’s Under The Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid.  Suzie is along for the ride today and after we ride we’ll discuss out thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.   FOLLOW US http://www.facebook.com/attractionchecklist  http://www.facebook.com/saturdaymorningmedia  http://www.twitter.com/SaturdayMMedia  https://plus.google.com/+Saturdaymorningmedia  https://www.linkedin.com/company/saturday-morning-media http://www.youtube.com/user/SaturdayMorningMedia?sub_confirmation=1 FOLLOW GRANT http://www.MrGrant.comhttp://www.twitter.com/toasterboy  https://instagram.com/throwingtoasters/ Sources: WIKIPEDIAhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid:_Ariel%27s_Undersea_Adventure DISNEYLAND WEBSITEhttps://disneyland.disney.go.com/attractions/disney-california-adventure/little-mermaid-ariels-undersea-adventure/ HIDDENMICKEYGUY.COMhttp://www.hiddenmickeyguy.com/news/little-mermaid-ariel’s-undersea-adventure-fun-facts   Show ©2017 Saturday Morning Media/Grant Baciocco

This episode we are heading to Disney California Adventure for our first ever attraction double header as we ride two attractions in one episode!  First we’ll attend a wild band concert on the Silly Symphony Swings.  Located in the Paradise Pier section of the park, the Silly Symphony Swings are described in the guide in the following manner:  Enjoy boardwalk fun at its swinging best.  The Thrill level describes the attraction accurately as a spinning ride and it does have a height requirement in that guests need to be 40” or taller to ride. After the Silly Symphony Swings, we’re going to head over to the Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction.  Also located in Paradise Pier, this ride is described in the guide map in this way:  Drop down through a colorful forest of kelp.  The thrill level warns that this attraction features Small Drops and it also has the 40” or taller height requirement on it. Before our feet leave the ground for these two attractions, here are five fast facts about the Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping Jellyfish. 1.  Jumping’ Jellyfish is a California Adventure opening day attraction, beginning operation on February 8, 2001.  Silly Symphony Swings officially opened on June 11, 2010, but it replaced a similar attraction called the Orange Stinger which was basically the same ride but enclosed in a giant orange. 2.   Silly Symphony Sings is themes to the 1935 cartoon, The Band Concert where Mickey conducts an orchestra during the middle of tornado.  When the ride opened in 2010, it coincided with the 75th anniversary of the cartoon! 3.  The mild Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction at California Adventure has a sister attraction, also named Jumping’ Jellyfish, at Tokyo DisneySea in Japan.  The version at Tokyo DisneySea opened a few month after it’s California counterpart on September 4, 2001. 4.  The two music pieces heard during your ride on Silly Symphony Swings are both by William Tell.  The soundtrack includes his famous Overture and his classic piece entitled The Storm 5. Though they do so in much different ways, both attractions lift riders 40 feet off the ground and both have a ride time of generally about a minute and thirty seconds. With me today for this special double header is my friend John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic Disneyland attraction.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this trip is a binaural recording.  And now let’s ride Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping’ Jellyfish at Disney California adventure. Why is Disneyland better than Disney World? Find out that and some top Disneyland travel tips with pro Leslie Harvey from Trips with Tykes on this week's podcast. Her travel passions include all things Disney as well as air travel, even in spite of her constant battles with the TSA over her toddler's juice box. Leslie is a former attorney and mother of two children, ages 7 and 2. She's originally from Alabama but now calls the San Francisco Bay Area home. You can follow Leslie on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and Google+.   TOP DISNEYLAND TRAVEL TIPS Disneyland is much smaller than Disney World, making for a very different vacation experience and getting from park to park is much easier in Disneyland  There are two parks -- Disneyland Park and California Adventure Some rides are different -- such as Pirates of the Caribbean (Disneyland is better) and Splash Mountain (Disney World is better) Disneyland has the old Fast Pass system, not Fast Pass + currently at Disney World At Disneyland you can purchase them on the day of your visit at the machines at the park There are three hotels at Disneyland: Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier and Grand Californian, and none are true "value" resorts Paradise Pier will be the least expensive option but even in high season, the hotels usually top out at $400-500 per night The Grand Californian is the most upscale and has its own entrance into the park Leslie's favorite hotel is the original Disneyland Hotel because of its theming, history and Disney tours Kim really likes the Grand Californian but has also had a great stay at Paradise Pier Paradise Pier has the best character meal with the Surf's Up breakfast There are many options for staying off-site but are just across the street and easy to get to If you stay on-site, you get early entry, which is even more important at Disneyland than it is at Disney World because it gets so overcrowded There is a private entrance for hotel guests from the Grand Californian, but it can actually slow you down on very crowded weekends On holiday weekends you need to get there 30-40 minutes before rope drop Plan on spending three days in Disneyland The parks are always crowded but mid-September, early-December (between Thanksgiving and Christmas), January and February (outside of holiday weekends) are the best times to visit. However, some rides may be closed due to refurbishment during these times Leslie recommends the Blue Bayou for a special date night meal -- make a reservation in advance and request a table by the water To save money, book a budget hotel off-property and if you go on a whim, use Hotel Tonight to find good last-minute deals Leslie recommends buying tickets from Park Savers, who is a third-party reseller that offers discounts Buy Disney gift cards at a discount, such as buying them at Target with your RedCard and get 5% off and then use them at the parks Plan on leaving your hotel 45 minutes before opening to get through the bag check and past rope drops If you have young kids, use Rider Switch to get a pass that you can use anytime in the day and save them for when the rides are the longest or use them with your thrill rides multiple times BEST PLACE TO TAKE FAMILY PHOTO The classic spot would be in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle. Leslie also recommends going back to Critter Country near Splash Mountain for the meet and greet with Winnie-the-Pooh characters. She also likes the scenery in Carsland in California Adventure. Kim also recommends Mickey's House in Toontown. FAVORITE TRAVEL GEAR Leslie really likes Skechers Go Walk sneakers and packs in layers as the weather is variable in Southern California. APP OF THE WEEK Kim recommends three options for Disneyland wait time apps: Mousewait with user generated content for wait times, Lines by Touring Plans which is helpful if you sign up for a touring plan, and the official Disneyland Park app with the most accurate wait times and information. Festival Artists - Disney will feature more than a dozen artists during the Food & Wine Festival, with several debuting new product commissioned just for this event. You can meet the artists and purchase their creations during scheduled events each weekend of the Festival. Video In addition to these product releases, Disney is also featuring some of these artists on stage during the Food & Wine Festival. Visitors can watch the artists create new artwork at the Lifestyle Stage in Hollywood Land then meet them in person at Off the Page later in the day. Mouseplanet has a schedule of who will be appearing at all of these events. Mouseplanet did a really good job of putting this all together. One thing that is being offered to annual Passholders is a special Tasting Passport and a lounge to hang out in. This pass costs $39 bucks (down from $45) and gives you 6 tasting portions from the Festival marketplace booths not including alcohol. If you use it and get 6 of the most expensive items on the menus you have a few bucks. Pretty much every website says it is a rip off. Even after they lowered the price of it. For the first time in way too long, the Food and Wine Festival has returned to Disney California Adventure. It's going on this month every Friday, Saturday and Sunday ending on May 1st. It's a celebration of the tastes of California and an opportunity to sample an assortment of beverages and tasty treats you can't otherwise find at DCA. You can eat and drink your way from Carthay Circle to Paradise Pier at 8 different Festival Marketplaces, plus there are a number of beverage seminars and culinary demonstrations happening throughout the event. In Hollywood Land, they've set up a celebrity kitchen. For $99 per person you can enjoy presentations by famous chefs like Andrew Sutton, Guy Fieri, Keegan Gerhard, G. Gavin and Graham Eliot--and no, not all those presentations are sold out yet. You can find out more by visiting https://disneyland.disney.go.com/events-tours/disney-california-adventure/food-and-wine-festival. Last weekend, Team Mouse Castle dropped by the Food and Wine Festival and, oh yes, we sampled as many culinary offerings as we could. Saturday night, we all got together at Napa Rose inside the Grand Californian Hotel and shared our thoughts about Food and Wine, how it compares to similar past events at DCA and especially how much of a value it is for guests. Team Mouse Castle overindulges in food and wine—what could possibly go wrong?  Enjoy!www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss

(((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) In this episode, the Mouse Lounge takes in a languorous, lazy summer day…at 55 miles per hour of course.  Each week, in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record.   In 1963 Walt Disney Productions released the feature film Summer Magic, starring Hayley Mills, Burl Ives, and Dorothy McGuire in a story about a Boston widow and her children taking up residence in a small town in Maine. The film was based on the book "Mother Carey's Chickens" by Kate Douglas Wiggin.  The film was Mills' fourth of six films for Disney, and the young actress received a Golden Globe nomination for her work.  The soundtrack from the picture yielded some very good songs, including the Richard Sherman composition, the Ugly Bug Ball; which went on to be a popular song that year.  Two other cuts on the record however will be of interest to Disney Park fans.  Flitterin’ and Beautiful Beulah can often be heard in instrumental form as you stroll down Main Street USA.  Now have a listen to these familiar melodies, complete with their original lyrics.  From the Walt Disney Archives:  On the evening of June 25th, D23 members gathered at the Walt Disney Theater on the Disney Studios lot in Burbank to witness a once in a lifetime event.  Dave Smith, Chief Archivist for the Walt Disney Company celebrated his and it’s 40th anniversary!  While tinged with just the slightest bit of sadness with the fresh reveal Dave will be retiring in October; the evening was a celebration in the truest sense.  Disney luminaries such as CEO Bob Iger, composer Richard Sherman, and Imagineers Tony Baxter and Bob Gurr, were in attendance.  Leonard Maltin interviewed Dave during the occasion.  We present the entirety of that interview here.  Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West.   This week, summer isn’t complete without the rush of a roller coaster and fireworks.  In DCA’s Paradise Pier, take a ride on California Screamin’!  Then, let’s cross the esplanade and take in Magical!, Disney’s Nightastic fireworks spectacular.  This is a Mouse Lounge Re-mix, so should be extra fun with the sounds of a very enthusiastic summer crowd in the background.  We'll close this week’s show with audio from an attraction you can only see online.  You’ll hear more about it coming up.  Have a listen to the World of Color Roadshow.  The Mouse Lounge is a fan-based podcast and is not affiliated with the Walt Disney Company or its subsidiaries.  Non factual statements made by the Mouse Lounge hosts, Gary Chambers and his guests are their current opinions only and are subject to change without notice.  All copyrighted material used with permission or under the Fair Use Doctrine in Section 107 of the United States Copyright Act.  Although the information in this program is believed to be reliable, Mr. Chambers, and Mouselounge.com do not make any representations or warranties as to its accuracy or completeness, nor do they assess, verify or guarantee the suitability of information.
