It's here! Cuffing season is among us and the girls felt it was the perfect time to talk about how to get through this season, whether cuddling up during the winter months or embracing the single life. But first, a weekend of lifting & a lil piercing; party busses & a gopher win! Would you dabble with a hinge double-trouble profile? In cuffing season, the answer is...YES! In all seriousness, the girls talk about why cuffing season brings us the desire to get hitched, stay in, or work on our internal selves. Next, Syd & Soph speak to self-sabotage, self-doubt, and not knowing when to let something go. Why do we purposefully ruin the things that we love? Why do we talk ourselves into self-doubt; how do we talk ourselves out of it? Follow along, reflect on your relationships & personal battles, and give yourself grace as the girls speak to their biggest sabotage issues that they continue to work on to this day. We are all human. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Wednesday, August 25. Tuesday's humid weather turned into heavy rain and sometimes dangerous conditions. Wednesday could provide a repeat of this pattern. According to the National Weather Service it will be partly sunny with a high near 90 degrees in the Cedar Rapids area on Wednesday. There will be a 30 percent chance of rain, primarily after 4 p.m., with some storms having the potential for heavy rain. Then Wednesday night the chance for rain will continue at roughly the same probability, although more likely it will be rain again. Severe thunderstorms swept across Central and Eastern Iowa on Tuesday, bringing hail and high winds that damaged buildings and snapped trees. According to National Weather Service https://www.weather.gov/source/crh/lsrmap.html?sid=dvn (storm reports, )the bad weather in the state spanned from as far west as Story City north of Des Moines to as far east as Bellevue on the Iowa-Illinois border. Early storm reports showed widespread winds, ranging from 40 to 70 mph, as well as hail raging in size from a quarter inch to 1 inch in diameter. The most damaging storms appear to have hit northeastern Iowa, at, and to the north of, Manchester. Parents expressed worries for the safety of their children and others Tuesday as students in Iowa City schools finished their second day of classes without a face mask requirement. During a school board meeting, the board was presented with a petition signed by over 1,000 community members, medical providers and parents asking the Iowa City Community School District to require masks in schools to help protect against the spread of COVID-19. The petitioners did so while conceding that the board's hands are likely tied by a state law passed in May prohibiting masking mandates. Iowa City School Superintendent Matt Degner said the district is aware of the concerns and is working on solutions to keep students safe. Leadership is changing at the Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City. Andre Perry, executive director for 11 years, has resigned to pursue new projects. His final day is Sept. 13, but he will help finalize fall and spring programming already underway, and will continue as executive director for the upcoming Witching Hour festival and Mission Creek festival in 2022. Perry has led the nonprofit arts presenter through growing from an $800,000 budget in 2010 to a $1.9 million budget in 2019. He also founded Mission Creek and Witching Hour festivals, showcasing high-profile and emerging artists, as well as local musicians, authors, poets and creators. Bonus content alert! THE GANGS ALL HERE…but with tequila! Andrew Inserra and Declan Brown are jumping in FRONT of the mics rather than producing Straight Candid BEHIND the scenes. The Backpocket Production stemmed from two average dudes with one big vision: to become a podcast production company, starting with Straight Candid Podcast. The team shares stories about success, failures, and awkward moments - all while playing an intrusive card game and having an aggressive happy hour.... Eeek! Don't judge us. The girls put Declan on the spot by bringing up the fact that he took BOTH Syd and Soph on a ‘date'. Soph gets Andrew sweatin' by bringing up a recent text message that she received from a previous lover. Needless to say, there were plenty of risks (and shots) taken during this episode. All fun and games aside, the girls wanted to finally leave space for the two boys who urged them to start the podcast in the first place. Love you guys! We've now extended our goal to shoot for the stars and raise $10,000 before it's time to purchase their gifts. Hear about how we tried to record a podcast this past Sunday and it turned out to be a bit of a flop for the first time in a long time. We talk our 2020 video creation idea, our end of year reflection that leads to 2021 goal setting, and what we want to do everyday that we're not currently doing. That's not all - you've all been wondering about Andrew and Sophie, so we don't leave you hanging there - and we get an update on Decky Farmland. Enjoy! DONATE TO OUR BCE CAMPAIGN HERE

In this episode Sarah Greisdorf lets us in on how she started a fashion company as a computer science major, how she pursues power through pockets, and why a lot of people ask her if she sleeps (I couldn't help but ask but ask myself). Sarah became invested in the lack of pocket's in women's clothing in high school and took action on it once reaching Boston University. After a year of developing this platform through a newsletter and affiliate programs, she took the leap to manufacture and design her own workwear. Her company, Holdette, is now offering pre-sale of their first design, the Leslie Suit. Holdette brings practical pockets to women's workwear while upholding a slim and natural fit. Her brand expands beyond retail as well. Sarah started the Backpocket community to connect women during Covid-19 and Sarah brings what she has learned from her (NUMEROUS) mentors to the members of Backpocket. We talk about her how her experiences at all-girls schools growing up helped to foster her confidence, the structure of working for yourself at 21, the power of connecting people, and making pasta. Sarah brings us through a detailed process of the garmant design process and gives plenty of credit to the programs and people that have made her success possible. Connect with Sarah and Holdette! It's an exciting week, boys and girls. We sit down with our friend, Jack Burke, to discuss how he traveled out west to Yellowstone on a solo journey while he was in between jobs. Through this episode, he was given the nickname "Big Horn Burke". He mentions his love of Big Horn and wanting a cowboy hat in Cody, Wyoming. Talking about this trip makes us wonder what would bring us to an old-fashion Wild West standoff. We discuss how Andrew broke 90 for the first time and shot an 87 golfing. To add to the hype, Declan has perfected how to play a round of golf with 60 year old divorcees. Oh, and it gets even better - Declan's mullet is taking flight. Continuing on with light-hearted topics, we also circle the wagon on what stress us out more than the global perception of who is our presidents. You don't want to miss this! www.roycejohns.comMost artists pay somebody to write a long, inflated, flashy bio about themselves, but I thought I’d just give it to you straight. My name is Royce John Schwienebart, or otherwise known as Royce Johns. I’m a husband, guitar picker, and singer. I’ve also written some songs on my first EP, but after coming to Nashville and really learning how a great song is written, I’d hate to call myself a songwriter just yet. But I’m slowly learning.I was born on June 22, 1995, in Des Moines, Iowa. I lived in Polk City for twelve years, moved to Pennsylvania for three, then moved back to Iowa in 2008 and have lived here since. I don’t think I could’ve been dealt a better hand when it comes to family, my parents, grandparents, and extended family. When most of my friends were into pop radio, I was sinking my teeth into AC/DC, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and all the classic rock from the ’60s-’80s. I really didn’t have much musically in common with most people my age, and always kinda liked it that way. When I was 13-14, I would sit in my bedroom for hours at a time, just trying to learn the intro licks to “Purple Haze” and “Thunderstruck”. I never played in band or choir, so all my learning basically has been informal and by ear.I worked a bunch of odd jobs to pay my way through high school into community college. From car washes to restaurants, retail, warehouse work, car sales, direct sales, and even auto wholesale. It wasn’t until I was 19 that I took my guitar out of my bedroom and into the streets of Ames, Iowa.I started busking with the 5 songs I knew how to play, and soon found other musicians that were playing on the streets. From that, I just wanted to play every open jam that I could find, just to get into playing music. I eventually found some other guys that have been playing music for many decades that taught me about playing bar gigs. I just wanted to play guitar, but drawing the short stick in the group, I was left up to be the singer as well. That band became Lincoln Rockhouse and was a starting point for my music career.I’ve always been around country music with my parents and grandparents, but it didn’t really hit me until I was finishing up my time playing with my cover band Lincoln Rockhouse. Soon after, I started to find my love for the stories of Merle Haggard, Randy Travis, Keith Whitley, Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, George Strait, Ernest Tubb, and most other popular country artists from the ’50s-’90s. BACKPOCKET BREWING COMPANY903 QUARRY RD, CORALVILLE, IA, 52241319-449-3700 | INFO@BACKPOCKETBREWING.COM The truth is you can tell a lot about a man by what he keeps in his back pocket - a useful pocketknife, a lucky coin, a worn out photo from an old love that has never died. Whatever it is, even if it wound up there by accident, there's a story behind it. A story that probably won't come out until you are in the right place, talking to the right people, with the right beer in hand.Located in the Iowa River Landing in the beautiful Coralville, Iowa, we are German inspired and hand crafted. There's a Backpocket beer perfect for every person, every occasion and, most importantly, every story. SlingshotDunkel LagerWhat’s not to love about Dunkels? Rich and malty with a balanced sweetness, this easy-drinking lager is a year-round favorite. With a nutty, bready aroma, all hop characteristics are mellowed out to create a smooth, drinkable beer. Gold CoinBlonde LagerLight, simple and drinkable, this golden blonde lager was one of our first beers, and it’s stuck around for good reason. It’s crisp, refreshing and simply delicious. MurderhornBelgian Golden AleEven before your first sip, the nose of this Belgian golden ale packs a punch. Dominated by yeast fruit notes, all hop aromas are buried under a balanced flavor and aroma. The dry finish with a touch of boozy heat, rounds out this golden ale. RaygunIPAWe’ve created this juice bomb of an ipa, graciously hopped with citra and mosaic hops to give a tropical aroma and bold citrus flavor. Gary approved. HawktoberfestMarzen LagerWhat more needs to be said. Fall, tailgating and the smooth malt of oktoberfest-style beer just make sense together. When the season hits, fill your fridge and coolers and enjoy the wonders of Fall in the Hawkeye state. We promise Hawktoberfest will pair perfectly with all of it.
