Fast drei Jahre später, nach einer langen, quälenden Zeit mit „vielen Tränen, vielen Zweifel, vielen Emotionen“, wie er es beschreibt - nach dieser Ewigkeit passierte das: Nihad Djedovic, 32, seit 2013 bei den Bayern-Basketballern und inzwischen ihr Kapitän, er versenkt im dritten Playoff-Viertelfinale in Chemnitz (87:80 n.V.) zwei Dreier in der Overtime und entscheidet mal wieder ein wichtiges Spiel. Im FCBB-Podcast OPEN COURT spricht der Deutsch-Bosnier und bekennende Steinbock („Ich bin eher ein verschlossener Typ“) ausführlich und ziemlich offenherzig über seine Leidenszeit mit rätselhaften Knieverletzungen, die den MVP der BBL-Finals von 2019 so lange zum Zuschauen verdammten. Nihad offenbart, wie er in der Not Halt in der Religion fand: „Ich habe mich in den zwei Jahren mehr am Glauben orientiert, habe angefangen, fünfmal am Tag zu beten. Das hat mir geholfen.“ Dennoch, er habe „immer wieder ans Aufhören gedacht“. Zurzeit strotzt der Rekordspieler der Bayern vor Energie, doch er ist gelassener geworden: „Ich habe meine Perspektive geändert, gesehen, dass es nicht nur um individuelle Dinge geht. (…) Ich bin ein komplett anderer Mensch geworden in den zehn Jahren in München.“ Und jetzt? Jetzt wartet er mit den Bayern auf die Halbfinals gegen Bonn und sagt: „Wenn wir alle gesund bleiben, haben wir ein sehr hohes Potential, den Titel zu gewinnen.“ Und sein Fernziel: „Mein Traum ist es, dass ich auch in der SAP Garden spiele. Das würde ich gerne erleben und dann auch hier meine Karriere beenden.“

Ian Macleod is in his second year as the Newcastle Eagles head coach, having taken up the helm after Fab Flournoy, the former player/coach of the Eagles left to join Nick Nurse's staff on the Toronto Raptors in 2018. Fab's input helped the Newcastle Eagles become the winningest franchise in BBL history - winning the treble three times since 2005, with star players such as himself, Charles Smith and Darius Defoe. The Eagles record boasts 7 BBL Championships, 6 BBL Playoffs wins, 5 BBL Cup wins and 7 BBL Trophy wins. In addition to this, Fab leads the Eagles in all-time, assists, blocks, rebounds and steals so not a bad mentor to have! When Charles Smith retired in 2016, this left the door open for the newly recruited PG Ramon Fletcher to take the helm for the clubs new era. Coach Macleod was an academy coach with the Eagles for over a decade before being given the chance to become an assistant coach by Fab in 2013, the year before Fletcher came to the team. Macleod had ambitions to become a coach from the age of five, initially in football but this quickly transitioned to basketball. In this podcast, we'll discuss his successful first year campaign, winning the BBL Trophy against the up and coming NBL team, the Solent Kestrels - where he became one of very few coaches to win silverware in his first season. We'll discuss what it's like to build a team in the BBL, where year to year contracts are the norm and take a trip down memory lane to discuss his basketball journey as well as his aspirations for this year's side, who have come out strong in the BBL Cup with a 3-2 record.

In Part 2 of Episode 10 we are joined by the BBL's Head of Communications, Selina Conroy and Olympian and former Glasgow Rock, Kieron Achara. We discuss the new 2- year Sky Sports deal which add Kieron to their commentary team. The British Basketball League is delighted to announce the return of coverage of the BBL to Sky Sports this season. The two-year agreement will see Sky Sports air 30 live BBL matches a season. As part of the agreement Sky Sports will also air the BBL Trophy Final, BBL Cup Final, BBL Playoffs and live coverage of the Women's BBL Playoff final. Sky Sports will broadcast a double header live from the Eagles Community Arena on December 3 to kick-start the coverage. Newcastle Eagles, who are the BBL's most successful side with 25 major titles to their name, host a London Lions side who have been very busy adding to their line up in the close season in an eagerly anticipated opening night encounter in the BBL Championship. B. Braun Sheffield Sharks will tip-off against Cheshire Phoenix in the league season opener earlier in the evening. Both matches will be live on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Main Event from 4.30pm. It promises to be a highly exciting time for British Basketball as the road to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where 3×3 basketball will be a featured sport, draws ever closer.
