Dr. Barnhouse and the Bible on Oneplace.com

Just as the Revelation unveils the details of the end times, so Dr. Barnhouse's study of this very difficult book reveal the somewhat misunderstood content of Revelation to the one who carefully studies its pages. Proceeding verse by verse and section by section through Revelation, Dr. Barnhouse shares remarkable intellectual and devotional insights that are clearly refreshing because they are his own. His timely applications and valuable exposition make the blessing promised in the early verse of Revelation a reality for that one who studies this prophetic book. Welcome (once again) to this summer retrospective series. One of my favorite things about this podcast is that it's truly a community of guests and listeners, where you often connect with each other, apart from me. When guests share so deeply and vulnerably with us, the listeners, I think it's important to stay in touch and continue to conversation, as much as possible. In this spirit, I reached out to a few guests for follow-up interviews this summer. These interviews are each 30 minutes or less and totally un-edited so you're getting the raw thoughts of both myself and my guests. Here we are at the third of our 5 interviews and I am just so excited to welcome Letitia Clark back. Letitia is on the verge of FINALLY having a launch party to celebrate Bitter Honey - except! It's a DOUBLE book launch party because she has a new book out, a companion book to Bitter Honey, titled La Vita e Dolce: Italian-Inspired Desserts. In this interview, we talk about one surprising challenge that came along with the success of her first book, we have a frank conversation about perceptions vs. the reality in the real life of a successful author. I loved talking to Letitia about her goals for this new book and why she focused so much on sweet breakfast treats. In fact, Letitia's beliefs about breakfast flies in the face of all conventional wisdom… but I think, for our own good, her experience is truly worth considering! This is simply a light, fun, fresh conversation perfect for a hot summer day. Whether you're walking, driving, cooking, gardening or sitting on a porch somewhere with a tall glass of iced tea - welcome to you  and welcome to Letitia. One of my first questions for Letitia Clark, author of the stunning book “Bitter Honey” was this: How should I classify your book? It is, of course, a cookbook. Letitia has filled the book to the brim with recipes. After working as a professional chef in many London kitchens, Letitia moved to the remote island off the coast of Italy named Sardinia. These are the unpretentious, "unbossy", simple recipes Letitia ate as she discovered her true calling, not as a professional chef, but as a home cook and auther. Letitia agrees, however, that the book is more than a cookbook. It is equal parts memoir, story, and manifesto about a way of life and eating that are all but foreign to the rest of us. As we continued in our discussion, my aim was simply to ask Letitia questions that I couldn't answer from reading “Bitter Honey” (which I loved so much that I read cover to cover in one evening.)  The result is a meandering but stimulating conversation between topics of home, self-doubt, the necessity of transparency when women seek to empower other women, and the definition of authenticity, both in and out of every kitchen. This episode of the 605 Show is an all-you-can-listen grilled pineapple-stravaganza, recorded live to tape at Carnaval Brazilian Grill. Jordan Knopf of Tuff Roots joins us straight out of the gate to talk about the band's new album, Planting Seeds, and to politely indulge Alana's reggae stoner stereotype game, “Cannabis or Can I Not.” (V doesn't think it makes much sense, either.) Then our man Aiden from Carnaval takes a break from bringing us plate after plate of delicious food and drinks to explain exactly what we've been eating and drinking. After the break the Burlap Wolf King himself, Thomas Hentges, has just enough time to talk about his new album, Bitter Honey; treating your band like family; and plans for (3???) new albums before Alana reaches peak TMZ and launches into a segment crafted specifically for the newly-single King, “Who Let the Wolf Out?” It's not as gossipy as it sounds, but it's close. This week, we are diving into Proverbs 5 to look at God's gift of sex. Proverbs 5 unpacks the dangers of sex, but doesn't leave us there. Through this passage, Solomon will help us do two things: First, he will help us not to undervalue sex and treat it as a bad thing. Second, he will help us not to overvalue sex and make it the best thing. As Solomon does this, he will help us understand sex and see the good gift sex is and how we can enjoy it in our marriages and future marriages.

Video: Vimeo – YouTube Photos: Flickr – Blueback Hotrod Free mp3 downloads: zip file (right click – save as) I first got into The Scottish Enlightenment back in 2007 when they releases the Eyes single on Moojuice Records.  Then they went silent for a couple of years, to the extent that I thought they might have actually called it a day, but last year they came back stronger than ever before. Two fantastic EPs and an equally excellent album were released on Glasgow's rather awesome Armellodie Records, and in general I think it's fair to say that it was a toss-up between them and Kid Canaveral as to who I thought the Scottish band of 2011 was (*cough cough* Song, by Toad Records bands apart of course) Mrs. Toad operated one of the video cameras this time, and Dylan was on still and video cameras.  I recorded and edited this one - the first full band I've recorded since Sparrow and the Workshop back in 2008.  As per usual we have the podcast below, the freely downloadable session mp3s underneath that, followed by the videos we made for all the individual songs.  The tracklisting for the podcast is at the very bottom of the page.  Enjoy! 01. The Crapcast is so named because I am in one of the dingiest hotel rooms I have ever been in.  In isn't even entertainingly bad, which would be something, just like being dressed in clothes from Marks and Spencer and being trapped inside a grey cardboard box listening to Keane's greatest hits. Anyhow, the shower was really good, and I can forgive almost any other atrocity in a hotel room, as long as the shower is hot and the pressure is good. Anyhow, I am abandoning the Hotel of Beige for a friend's house tonight, and then tootling back up to Edinburgh tomorrow evening to see my nice lady again.  It makes a bit of change for me to be away on business instead of her, so I can go back and gloat about being a mover and a shaker… until she puts me firmly back in my place my reminding me that when she goes away it is to China and New York and Australia, not just a long weekend in London. And yes, I do refer to a bit of 'verbal writing' in this.  Don't judge me too harshly.  I was wrecked. 01. Billy Bragg - The Saturday Boy (00.56) 02. Pet Ghost Project - Glitch Shake (10.09) 03. Meursault's debut album is one of my favourite of the year, and their acoustic set is easily as good. This is the first session to be held in our house too, which brought its own challenges and then some. Mrs. Toad's preposterous cat makes an appearance at one point, and the videos look very, very, erm... green? Blue? Whatever fucking stupid colour it is we've painted our living room.
