Well it's official. We have hit the big time. The City of Flagstaff invited us along with prolific Nevada beer journalist and perennial Beer Freaks guest Bob Barnes out to their city to explore the magical world of Flagstaff brewing and space exploration. Yes, they do both. Our phenomenal tour guide, Meg, drove us to several tasty breweries, including Lumberyard, Beaver Street, Mother Road, Wanderlust, Grand Canyon Brewing, and Dark Sky, all within the city limits of the charming city of Flagstaff, most of which were walkable from our downtown accommodations, the very haunted Hotel Monte Vista. And yes, Derek got assigned to the most haunted room in the place. But wait, there's more! Not only did we get to experience the best brews Flagstaff had to offer (and there were too many to recount here), but we also got a VIP tour of Lowell Observatory with Dr. Danielle Adams, Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer of the observatory. Our hosts showed and told us all about how Pluto was discovered in Flagstaff, how the city still plays a major role in NASA (step aside, Houston), and how every single human that's ever stepped foot on the moon has spent time training in Flagstaff. This whirlwind trip was an incredible experience from start to finish (except for the unprecedented snowstorm that doubled our drive time) and we can't say enough great things about Flag and the wonderful beer culture, community, and craft they've cultivated in the charming mountain town. You better believe we'll be back soon. And we hope to see you there.Oh, there's one more thing. Because this was our first of hopefully many city tours in the future, we are working on a short film of the experience so that you can virtually come with us as we interview brewers, owners, general managers, and astronomers on this historic occasion. More details to come!Support the show

He went so far as to say Trump had been bought out, controlled and compromised. At the time, I wondered, “Where does Jones go from here?” If he continued down that path, his subscription base was going to dry up. Sure enough, Jones has switched back to praising Trump again and is pushing the same old hype about Trump prosecuting the Deep State just like he was pushing last year, all without evidence. Here is Jones’ recent video broadcast where he once again claims that Trump is about to take down the Deep State. He has attorney Bob Barnes on the show, and although they keep claiming as fact that Trump is about to prosecute members of the Deep State, they give virtually no evidence to back up that claim. I suspect Jones is listening to his claimed “insider within the White House” that is feeding him the same old disinformation he got last year.Attorney Bob Barnes spends all of his time during the interview explaining how he would prosecute or how Trump should prosecute. It’s all correct in theory, but Barnes mentions Attorney General Barr in a positive light, as if he is an ally of Trump in this process. Does he not know that Barr is part of the Deep State and was George HW Bush’s “fix it man?” He must know that any prosecution of the Deep State would have to be at Barr’s instigation, and that’s never going to happen. Alex seems so eager to agree with everything Barnes is saying, he doesn’t correct him on his confidence in Barr—even though Jones knows Barr is Deep State. And why no correction to his previous claims about Trump being controlled? You can’t have it both ways. How does Trump go from being “controlled,” to being the nemesis of the Deep State without a detailed explanation of what, precisely, changed from mid-March when he disavowed Trump?https://theweek.com/speedreads/833479/fox-news-tucker-carlson-wonders-aloud-whether-trump-actually-wants-lose-2020Fox News’ Tucker Carlson wonders aloud whether Trump actually wants to lose in 20208:22 a.m.Is it possible that President Trump actually has no intention of winning re-election in 2020?That’s the question that was posed on Thursday by a surprising voice: Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, who in a segment on his show wondered what it might look like if Trump had decided he didn’t want to be president anymore and was taking steps to ensure he didn’t win another term, per The Washington Post.In this “hypothetical” scenario, Carlson ran through a number of things Trump could do so that his base would turn on him — all of which line up with actual Trump administration actions or reported proposals. He noted, for example, that if Trump wanted to lose, he could raise gas taxes, something the administration is reportedly considering and an idea that Carlson said is “so mindless and counterproductive there’s literally no way you could get re-elected after doing it.” Later, he told Trump he should definitely “go with the gas tax” if he secretly wants “to retire early” and is “really sick of the job.”Proposing cuts to Medicare and E-Verify would also be ways Trump could undermine his re-election chances, Carlson argued, as well as continuing “our pointless military intervention in Syria.” These, again, are not hypothetical scenarios at all.“If the president did all that, the message would be very clear: he has no idea what he ran on in 2016,” Carlson said. “He just wants out.”This was a surprisingly brutal segment from the Fox News host, although he has been critical of Trump before. Carlson in December went off on the president by saying he hasn’t kept his promises to voters and suggested that due to his lack of legislative experience, he is not “capable” of doing so. Cass Midgley and Dr. Bob Pondillo interview an anonymous guest who chose to go by the name Homo Sapien. He’s 52 years old, pretty much a life long atheist, he’s Canadian, and yet he still isn’t out of the closet as non-religious. This conversation is not about our usual subject—the trauma of leaving one’s faith. But it is about the toxic effects that religion has on society as it suppresses curiosity, creativity, and personal accountability. Mr. Sapien is a brilliant thinker and a great conversationalist, so Bob and I have a great time. This type of episode is as close as we’re ever going to get to a Sam Harris type podcast. Before we get into our talk with Homo, I want to read a couple of emails that came in this week. I get a lot of emails each week like these and I apologize that some get read on the air and some don’t. It’s not because you’re email wasn’t great; it really is just that these came in a time when I didn’t like any of the monologues I’d written and I these were great so I’m gonna read them.  The first one is from Matt Schmidt. He writes, Cass- I am just wanting to write a quick email to you about your podcast.  I have only been listening for about 6-8 months now, but I have found myself connecting to so many of your guest’s experiences.  I’m currently in the process of deconstructing myself and have been traveling through this new world for just over a year.  Started my church experience in the belly of my mother and been part of the Church for over 40 years.  As I listen to the many life stories told on your show, there have been many occasions that someone expressed a feeling of confusion followed an anger of betrayal by the narrative of Christianity, which we have taken to accept as reality or even a new-found freedom from the release all the human designed rules and constraints Christianity has taught our wholes lives.  I cannot thank you enough for creating this vehicle to provide reassurance that we are not alone in this process and the feeling and experiences we are going through are not unique. Everyone has a story…. Keep up the good work. Matt Schmidt “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” ― Albert Einstein This next one wanted to remain anonymous: Dear Cass and Bob, I just wanted to send you guys an email and thank you for the wonderful work that you guys are doing just by sharing the podcast with people. I can't tell you how much it has helped me come to terms with my own godlessness amongst the deeply Christian community in which I live. See, I grew up Catholic and it wasn't until about six months ago that I finally acknowledged the fact that I was agnostic and likely had been all my life. Now, I'm nineteen and living with my parents who are going through diaconate training and becoming increasingly more theological by the day. They don't know that I no longer subscribe to the belief that there is any god, let alone the Christian God that is just waiting to send me to hell for being queer, so I listen to your podcast to and from church every Sunday to distract from the situation. Please know that it genuinely helps with the feeling of loneliness that comes with being the only atheist in a church, and I don't know if I would still be sane without it. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Kind regards, Anonymous P.S., if you guys ever want an interview with a queer ex-Catholic college student who is still going to a very southern Texas church with a future deacon father, let me know. I would be happy to throw my two cents into the immeasurable amount of advice and experience your podcast has put into the world. So, without further ado, this is our talk with Homo Sapien, a mutual friend of a dear friend of the show who has promoted our podcast everywhere he goes, Bob Barnes up in Canada. He’s taken Bob and I to dinner, he passed EA Podcast business cards at the Reason Rally. He’s a great guy, and he introduced us to our guest today. So here’s our talk with Dr. Homo Sapien.  We taped this conversation on December 4th, 2016. We interview people you don’t know, about a subject no one wants to talk about. We hope to encourage people in the process of deconstructing their faith and help curb the loneliness that accompanies it. We think the world is a better place when more people live by sight, not by faith. Please subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review wherever you listen to podcasts. Our show is available on most podcast platforms.  Also, you can support us monetarily in two easy ways: you can pledge one dollar per episode through Patreon; that’s www.patreon.com/eapodcast, or leave a lump-sum donation through PayPal at our website, www.everyonesagnostic.com. Psalm 139 makes it clear that each of us is uniquely created by God for His glory. Yet if we let a self-centered culture define our identity, we can feel like a forgotten suit hung on the dry-cleaning conveyor of life, endlessly circling without real purpose. In this Father's Day message, Dr. Bob Barnes, President of Sheridan House Family Ministries, encourages us to let God transform our thinking, to get off the conveyor, and to enjoy meaningful lives of sacrificial service to our Heavenly Father.
