Tasting Notes: Now that it's become much more widely available, I thought I'd take a look at Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream, and also, as of the writing of this, it's SNOWING after Valentine's Day so why not??!! The nose promises creamy bourbony goodness with a big hit of vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, it's got the BIG hit of bourbon flavor and bite that you want. Not too sweet, perfect pulled right from the fridge and served neat. 30 proof, but be careful, seated by the fire, this will sneak up on you!
Vinnie and Albert got together Saturday morning to sample the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream. Here's what they thought!
Tasting Notes: Wildflower honey on the nose with cherry cordial, vanilla bean, and caramel. On the palate, more soft caramels with mint and piney rye spice emerging. Unlike the berry bombs in this year's Bourbon World Buffalo Trace series, this Warehouse L, Floor 4 is soft and elegant, emphasizing sweet mint and softer barrel spices. It just can't be said enough that these Buffalo Trace single barrels are possibly the BEST value to flavor single barrels in the world.
Tasting Notes: The 4th barrel in our 2023 Buffalo Trace single barrel series is a HIGH FLOOR oak and spice bomb. It's the 7th floor of a 9-floor concrete and tile building, so soft, balanced, regulated heat is likely the condition relative to other warehouses/floor combos. Most mature oak profile of the set so far. Bourbon candy aroma, deep set oak with some caramel corn as well. On the palate, loads of sugar and oak, maple syrup, rock candy, candy apple, and cinnamon spice throughout. This is rich, balanced oaky, dessert bourbon, and just so darn drinkable at 90 proof.
Tasting Notes: Exploding herbs, leather, and fruit on the nose. Warehoue P, Floor 5. Unlike the berry driven Warehouse O and L, this P warehouse, floor 5 really brings the lighter, more floral and elegant notes to the party. Silky and soft on the mid-palate with more emerging florals, rock candy, pez, vanilla milkshake and a lightly peppermint finish. Get this one slightly chilled, no ice, and ENJOY!
Tasting Notes: In warehouse L, a reinforced concrete frame warehouse, floor 5 IS the TOP floor, so essentially you are getting the hottest barrel from one of the cooler ageing warehouse at Buffalo Trace. On the nose lifted floral aromas, nuts, chocolate, and cinnamon. On the palate, orange zest, apple skins, light butterscotch, pie crust, and a silky cinnamon finish.
Tasting Notes: This is the first release of the 2023 Bourbon World Buffalo Trace Single Barrels, from Warehouse "O", floor 3, barrel #067. Nutty to start with peanut brittle, cinnamon butter, and caramel apple. On the palate, extremely sweet with TONS of spice/sugar depth. Much more complex than other BTs I've had in the best. Lengthy, spice-driven finish.

Today, the Boys bring two bottles with plenty of hype: Buffalo Trace Bourbon is so hyped that you can't find it anywhere. Patron Silver Tequila is so hyped that you can find it literally everywhere. Matt recalls regretful (ragretful?) fashion choices of the early 90's as Drew predicts Kanye's downfall a full two weeks before it happened. The Boys try something new and record this one early morning, because they double down on the hype with a special cocktail mixer that qualifies as breakfast food. And this is one time the cocktails make the show! So, get your ticket for the Hype Train! Buy a bottle of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, a bottle of Patron Silver Tequila, and a bottle of our special mixer. Pour them at breakfast time with some tamales and fried eggs and make it a Happy Friday!

Business Over Beer Podcast Episode #79. | Columbia Credit Union and EcoDigital Media, Part 3 As we conclude our trilogy with the Co-founders of EcoDigital Media, Kimberly Brecko and Randy Short, and Columbia Credit Union's Marc Timm, Chief Lending Officer, and Joe Storm, Director of Commercial Lending, it is clear why these four individuals came on the show together. Business is truly about creating mutually beneficial relationships, and the greatest success we can have, both personally and professionally, is by adding value. It's understood that a successful business must add value to its customers, but make no mistake, customers can, and should, add value for its vendors. Through mutual success and true partnership, you transcend "business" and achieve community. Prost! 2 perspectives on keeping a long term focus for small business owners In this episode our guests offer 2 unique perspectives on the importance of staying focused on the long term. As a small business owner, assigning a feeling a permanence to whatever you are going through today, regardless of whether it's good times or tough times, is a sure fire recipe for getting stuck, and will hinder your ability to achieve your goals. Ride the waves, but watch the horizon Marc Timm, Chief Lending Officer at Columbia Credit Union, uses an ocean analogy. Whether you are swimming or surfing or sailing, it's important to keep your eyes on the horizon. Yes, in the ocean, and in business, we have waves crashing down on us constantly. It is important to remember that those waves are normal, they are expected, and they create daily, sometimes hourly, ups and downs. But those waves are not permanent, in fact, nothing is permanent and you can overcome the challenges put in front of you. In his book, The Infinite Game, Simon Sinek says that no one wins or loses business, you are either ahead or behind, and the target is constantly moving. Circumstances change, Markets change, technology changes, people change. Fight the waves with everything you have today then put it behind you. As Joe Storm, Director of Commercial Lending for Columbia Credit Union, says, no matter what happens today, we have another shot at it tomorrow. Small business owners must take the approach that there is no finish line, keep your eyes on the horizon, it's there to keep you on course while you battle waves. Partner for life? For Kimberly Brecko, Co-Founder of EcoDigital media, it was more personal. She and her co-founder, Randy Short, were dating when they started the business. Their dating relationship did not last, but they fought through that to keep the business going. But as she looks back on those times, she sees now that she was so focused on what she was going through in the moment, instead of looking to the horizon and realizing that this was a long term endeavor, and that she and Randy would remain partners and would become family. By not assigning permanence to what you are facing day to day, you can grow and evolve past the crashing waves that are trying to steer you off course. And when you get to some smoother waters, you realize what you are capable of, what you can endure, how strong you are, and that pain and difficulty don't last forever. The good times aren't forever either Small business ownership, entrepreneurship, and business in general, is tough, and can be lonely at times. But it's not all bad. If it were all doom and gloom, why would so many of us have chosen this path? There are moments when the waves die down and you sail in smooth waters for a time. But it's just as important not to assign permanence to those either. When times are good, still keep your eye on the horizon, keep your eye on the vision, and don't allow comfort and complacency to knock you off course. Angie's Mystery Beer: Fort George Brewery - Astoria, OR Matryoshka, Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout, 12.8% ABV "Aged for one year in a blend of Buffalo Trace Bourbon and Westward Whiskey barrels. This barrel aged stout is an exercise in balance and intensity, full of bold flavors such as vanilla, anise, chocolate, coffee, and charred oak, all integrating seamlessly. The high gravity and robust mouthfeel give the beer heft and substance, while remaining smooth and deceivingly drinkable." [School of Movies 2017] A commissioned show, but for a film we adore. The only reason it's taken us this long is that L.A. Confidential is as rich and complex and powerful as a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle's Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and frankly... it was intimidating. It's a beautifully crafted film noir from 1997 which pretty much sets the bar for the genre from this point on, blending the best elements of the classics with contemporary filmmaking sensibilities, focusing on defying character expectations and showcasing physically expressive acting. Featuring career high performances from Russel Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito, James Cromwell and David Strathairn, a darkly crooning score by Jerry Goldsmith, and an endlessly quotable script from Brian Helgeland, adapted from the novel by James Elroy. It's the finest film Curtis Hanson ever made and the fact that Titanic gobbled up all the Oscars for that year is nothing short of a travesty (and I REALLY like Titanic!). Enjoy, and especially enjoy the toe-tapping jazz soundtrack.
Juliette rants about National Novel Writing Month, Zanies comedy club, and absinthe brownies, all while drinking Buffalo Trace Bourbon.
