Are you chasing happiness but still feel unfulfilled? In this episode of the True Love Knots Podcast, Maria is joined by Yvonne Trost, a former corporate climber turned Chief Happiness Officer, who shares her transformation from outward success to true inner joy. After confronting the toxicity of her marriage and diving into yoga, meditation, and subconscious healing, Yvonne discovered that happiness isn't external—it's an inside job. She challenges us to release outdated beliefs, face our fears, and rewrite the subconscious patterns holding us back. Ready to unlock your limitless potential? Yvonne's story inspires actionable steps to connect with your deepest desires and create a life of true fulfillment. Standout Quotes: “Your subconscious mind's job is to keep you alive and safe, but it doesn't care if you're happy.” “By the time you're 35, your subconscious mind is 95% in charge, and most of the logic it is using was written before you were 10.” “The change that you want is on the other side of action. It can't just live in your thoughts.” Key Takeaways: Examine your subconscious programming and beliefs formed in childhood - are they still serving you? Consider how you can update your "software" to align with your current goals and values. Identify areas in your life where you may be staying in an unhealthy situation for the sake of others. Reflect on how this is impacting you and what steps you can take to prioritize your own wellbeing. Explore the role of mindfulness, compassion and curiosity in overcoming fear, judgment and self-pity. Practice these qualities to shift your perspective and energy. Assess the impact your energy and subconscious patterns may be having on those around you. Consider how you can model self-awareness and positive change for your loved ones. Taylor Hou is the Founder and Chief Happiness Officer at APM Help, a company providing specialized consulting, bookkeeping, and trust compliance services for property management businesses. With a background in property management accounting and years of experience supporting companies nationwide, Taylor built APM Help to address complex financial compliance needs in the industry. His team assists clients with daily reconciliations, auditing, and resolving trust accounting challenges, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance across their portfolios. In this episode… Handling property management finances goes far beyond collecting rent and balancing budgets. The complexities of trust compliance, meticulous bookkeeping, and accurate financial reporting are essential yet often overlooked pillars of property management. How do successful companies ensure financial accuracy while avoiding common compliance pitfalls? According to Taylor Hou, a seasoned financial strategist, the key is consistent, reliable bookkeeping. He highlights that maintaining compliance is particularly challenging given the frequent transactions, tenant chargebacks, and trust account regulations property managers face daily. Minor accounting errors or lapses in transparency can escalate quickly, potentially risking both client trust and business licensing. Taylor explains that handling these challenges requires not only technical know-how but also a proactive approach to auditing and adjusting processes to ensure financial stability and regulatory alignment. In this episode of The Same Day Podcast, Mat Zalk and Taylor Hou, Founder and Chief Happiness Officer at APM Help, discuss the critical yet often neglected role of financial compliance in property management. They dive into why everyday reconciliations matter, common mistakes property managers make with trust accounts, and how APM Help ensures clients' books remain clean and compliant. Taylor also shares his vision for industry innovation and how APM Help is transforming property management accounting.
Chief Happiness Officer. Head of Wellbeing. Chief Sustainability Officer. Diversity and inclusion leader. A scroll on LinkedIn will point to many of these kinds of roles that exist within companies these days. But should they? Being an inclusive business. Making sure operations are sustainable. And people are happy. These things have always been important in business. And our understanding of matters like diversity and sustainability has never been better. So, why is it still hard to see positive change in these areas? Is it only by having dedicated roles that we can make progress happen? Does professionalising these areas unlock better investment rather than it being a side of desk project? And why is it then that we're still a long way from where we need to be? In this episode, we're joined by Naomi Sesay, Head of Creative Equity at Channel 4, and Smruti Naik-Jones, Chief Sustainability Officer for Deloitte UK and North South Europe, as we ask: Are the most important jobs those that shouldn't exist? How important are these roles in business and do they always have the desired effect? What would the world of work look like without them? How do these roles help us attract top talent and retain our people? And do they really help drive better business performance? What about their impact in helping us identify future policies? Do these roles encourage us to think and act differently when there's a strong leader paving the way? How do we make sure it's everyone's job vs working in silos? And will we ever get to a place where we don't need these roles? Tune in to find out: The reason your LinkedIn feed is full of creative job titles The unexpected roles that are key to business performance Whether sustainability and diversity roles will ever stop existing How anyone can be part of driving meaningful change in their company Enjoyed this episode? Once you have your ideal list, purposely put yourself in situations to deepen rapport with them. I was completely captivated by my guest this week, Dr. Sarah Ratekin. Sarah is the Owner and Chief Happiness Officer of Happiness is Courage, LLC. I'm all about the happy and if there's one thing the nurses need right now, it's more happiness. With a background in organizational ethics and a doctorate in business administration she helps her clients, which include healthcare institutions, improve the employee experience, and spoiler alert, it doesn't involve pizza parties. She explained the formula of happiness at work is determined by only two factors: solid relationships with the people we work with and that the work we do is meaningful. I can't think of a healthcare professional who does not have those two factors on their radar.Sarah has been accused of being a Pollyanna and vehemently rejects that label. Her approach to gratitude and happiness at work comes from both academic research and personal experience. Sarah's passion for transforming workplace cultures as well as her optimistic outlook has me hopeful for the future of nursing. In the five-minute snippet: Watch out Wilbur, Sarah's comin' for you! BONUS: Beyond Profit, How Happy Office Is Redefining Success in the Workplace, with Maartje Jansen and Fennande van der Meulen Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. Maartje and Fennande's journey into the realm of happiness at work began with a blend of personal insight and professional evolution. A conversation with a neighbor about the innovative step of hiring the Netherlands' first Chief Happiness Officer, led them to the realization that prioritizing worker happiness is not just beneficial but essential for business success. This revelation was the cornerstone for founding Happy Office, the consultancy they work for. Both had always valued engagement and purpose in their work, but now they were seeing the business world through a new lens: one that focuses on harnessing the full potential of employees, beyond just profit generation. Their early skepticism from academic circles about influencing work culture was overturned by practical experiences. The Four Pillars of Workplace Happiness They define happiness at work simply by saying: “it's when you find yourself whistling on the way to and from work!” They use four ideas to help describe how to achieve that outcome, the four Ps of Purpose, People, Progress, and Positivity. These pillars serve as the foundation for creating a work environment where employees feel energized rather than drained. At the core of their definition lies the basic human needs for meaningful relationships and contributions, suggesting that true happiness at work is about finding the right balance that fulfills these needs. The Critical Role of Happiness in Today's Workplace This episode's conversation underscores the heightened relevance of workplace happiness in the contemporary world, noting a discernible difference in organizations that take it seriously. The emphasis on happiness is linked to broader trends in recognizing the value of positive work culture in fostering creativity, cooperation, productivity, and resilience among employees. They also touch on the preventative role of a positive culture in reducing stress and burnout, supported by data and practical experience from their consulting work. Fostering Happiness at Work: Practical Strategies Offering actionable advice, Maartje and Fennande highlight the importance of starting with a clear understanding and discussion of what happiness means to a team. They advocate for evaluating and improving upon the four pillars, emphasizing that cultural change should be incremental rather than big-bang. Their approach is against the notion of rapid, transformative programs, suggesting instead a step-by-step experimentation to cultivate a lasting positive culture. Making Change Last: The Role of Leadership The challenge of ensuring lasting change is met with strategies rooted in engaging employees in meaningful conversations about their best work experiences and needs to flourish. Despite initial resistance, these discussions pave the way for practical, tangible steps towards happiness. The importance of leadership in modeling desired behaviors and the agile approach to HR are highlighted as critical factors in making happiness at work a sustainable reality.
