Nénette et Boni est un film de Claire Denis sorti en 1996. Claire Denis, on la connaît, mais peu. Discrète, cette réalisatrice française nʹen est pas moins incontournable de notre histoire du cinéma contemporain. Son univers, où les corps se mêlent, où les problèmes de société affleurent en filigrane, où elle raconte des histoires de vie dʹaujourdʹhui et dʹhier avec finesse, porte en lui la patte dʹune grande dame. Cinéma parfois sec, jamais pittoresque, cʹest un cinéma exigeant. Les termes les plus utilisés pour décrire lʹœuvre de Claire Denis : étrange, opaque, marginal, intellectuel. Pourtant, rien de très compliqué dans cette histoire de Nénette et Boni qui a reçu le Léopard dʹor à Locarno en 1996. Nénette et Boni cʹest un frère et une sœur, à Marseille. Elle a 15 ans, elle est enceinte. Il a 19 ans, il est pizzaiolo. Il fantasme sur la boulangère. Leur mère est morte. Leur père le sera bientôt. Ils vont apprendre à se connaître autour de ce bébé à naître. Avant le tournage, Claire Denis décrit son projet comme " une sorte de mélo marseillais, avec des personnages qui sont des stéréotypes, plutôt dans la tradition des santons de Provence. Elle pose ses personnages, ne sʹencombre pas de dialogues trop verbeux, dʹexplications, elle les suit sans juger, les filme au plus près de leurs corps dans une mise en scène fragmentaire puis les abandonne et nous avec. En regardant ses films, on est souvent surpris, puis on se laisse aller et ses films entrent dans nos vies pour ne plus nous lâcher. Claire Denis ce nʹest plus tout à fait du cinéma, cʹest une expérience de vie. Portrait et pas de côté, cʹest tout lʹart de Claire Denis quʹon vous raconte. Hij deelde de mening van een groep democratische VN-lidstaten die het bizar vonden dat de commissie vrijwel uitsluitend bestond uit dubieuze landen en meedogenloze dictaturen. Met de oprichting van een nieuwe organisatie, de VN Mensenrechtenraad, hoopten Annan en die groep democratische lidstaten een fatsoenlijke VN-toezichthouder voor mensenrechten te creëren. Nette leden van de Raad, zoals Nederland, zijn altijd gepikeerd als je het beestje bij de naam noemt, maar wat is die Raad een opportunistisch zootje ongeregeld. Een greep uit de 47 lidstaten : Burkina Faso, de Democratische republiek Congo, Eritrea, Libië, Rwanda, Somalië, Soedan, Afghanistan, Azerbeidzjan, China, Koeweit, Qatar, Saoedi-Arabië, El Salvador, Cuba en Venezuela. Landen met een gruwelijke staat van dienst op het gebied van mensenrechten, maar wel andere landen de maat nemen. Ze hebben net onderzoek laten doen waaruit blijkt dat Israël genocide pleegt . Populair onderwerp, dus de media pakken er stevig mee uit. Maar als juist deze Raad het beweert is het even geloofwaardig als wanneer het onderzoek het tegendeel had uitgewezen. Aan de vooravond van de 80ste Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties kan het geen kwaad om nog eens te beseffen dat de VN een organisatie is zonder ziel. Het is de optelsom van alle 193 lidstaten, die op vrijwel geen enkel gebied een gezamenlijke ideologische overtuiging hebben. Sommige werken samen of hebben bondgenootschappelijke banden, maar daar heeft de VN part noch deel aan. Besluiten van de Algemene Vergadering kunnen symbolisch misschien iets betekenen, maar internationaal-juridisch nooit. En wat koop je voor een symbool? Neem de erkenning van Palestina, door zo’n 150 lidstaten. Als die het echt menen, waarom openen ze dan geen ambassades in Ramallah, en waarom zijn erg geen Palestijnse ambassades in die 150 landen? Bij wie komen de ambassadeurs in Palestina hun geloofsbrieven aanbieden, en waar? Oh ja, nog even over die genocide. Waarom erkent de Nederlandse regering tot de huidige dag de Armeense Genocide niet? 110 jaar geleden vermoordden de Turken anderhalf miljoen Armeniërs. Demissionair premier Schoof onderschrijft de mening van zijn voorgangers. Je moet voorzichtig met de term ‘genocide’ omgaan, vindt hij. ‘Juist als verdediger van het internationaal recht, hoort de Nederlandse regering het mogelijke gebruik van zwaarwegende juridische kwalificatie zeer zorgvuldig te verkennen’. Join us for our first ever interview with the Australian writer and scholar, Andrew Nette, who, along with the film historian Samm Deighan, co-edited the new book Revolution in 35mm: Political Violence and Resistance in Cinema from the Arthouse to the Grindhouse, 1960–1990, published by PM Press.  Nette is an author of fiction and nonfiction. He is coeditor of three previous books for PM Press, Girl Gangs, Biker Boys, and Real Cool Cats: Pulp Fiction and Youth Culture, 1950 to 1980; Sticking It to the Man: Revolution and Counterculture in Pulp and Popular Fiction, 1950 to 1980; and Dangerous Visions and New Worlds: Radical Science Fiction, 1950 to 1985. His writing on film, books, and culture has appeared in a variety of print and online publications. He has also contributed video and print essays and commentaries to a number of DVD/Blu-ray releases. He writes a regular newsletter under his name on Substack.
