Join Dave and Wayne for genre television show news, a glimpse into what the hosts are currently watching, and commentary and analysis of the AMC series Orphan Black: Echoes. This week on the SciFi TV Rewatch podcast we discuss the series premiere of the latest chapter in the Clone Club universe starring Krysten Ritter of Jessica Jones fame. Though we both think it's a solid pilot episode that urges the viewer to continue watching, we wonder whether it's not a bit too derivative from a narrative structure perspective. In our What We're Watching segment, Wayne gives the Summer Olympics coverage high marks, and Dave finally gets to see S4 of Babylon Berlin. In Listener Feedback, Fred from the Netherlands gives some background regarding his podcast listening history, and Alan in England thinks Charlie's accuracy w/the killshot is a bit hard to believe. Iliana Oris Valiente is not your average executive. She's a blockchain pioneer, an A.I. advocate, and a passionate voice for human potential. She's also the youngest-ever managing director in the history of Accenture. Iliana's title also includes Head of Innovation and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) at Accenture Canada. She works with senior executives and boards to support their strategic transformation journeys. She also leads multi-disciplinary teams across design, data, and technology, focusing on cross-industry initiatives and emergent areas such as GenAI, metaverse, and sustainability.  Not only is Iliana a certified Bitcoin professional, startup investor, respected board member, published author, and sought-after global public speaker, but she also has a digital twin named Laila and is part of the pioneering clone club.  In this episode's conversation, Iliana speaks about A.I. and its transformative impact on the future of work, creativity, and societal trends. She shares her vision of a human-centered future where A.I. augments rather than replaces human creativity, and how the democratization of powerful A.I. tools will raise the bar for innovation. Iliana discusses the concept of digital humans and the emergence of a multi-agent workforce, in which A.I. assistants like her own digital twin will interact and collaborate with their human counterparts, including as chiefs of staff.  She highlights the shift towards generalist knowledge workers and the amplified role of creative directors in an A.I.-powered world. Iliana also emphasizes the importance of responsible A.I. and the principles guiding its development at Accenture. Today, get a glimpse into the future of A.I., computer vision, and the tremendous opportunities that await those who dare to navigate change head-on like Iliana!

Happy Wine Wednesday!  We are back with special guest Maddie this week for a discussion of the pilot episode of the critically acclaimed series, Orphan Black. We kick off the discussion with our Orphan Black "origin stories" in which we share when we started watching the series and what drew us to it.  We then move on to our overall thoughts of the pilot episode.  Unsurprisingly, there was very little we disliked about it. Next, we do a deep dive into the plot and discuss some Qs that need some As.  What would you do if you saw a woman standing on a subway platform taking off her shoes and putting down her purse?  What level of freaked out would you be if you bumped into a stranger who had your exact same face?  After you come across your doppelgänger, do you let it go or do you pursue more information?  We also unpack the many layers of Sarah's desperation and share our respective thoughts on the point at which she may have gone a little too far in her efforts to claim the money Beth left behind. No discussion about Orphan Black would be complete without praising the immensely talented Tatiana Maslany.  We also give our best elevator pitch as to why you should keep watching Orphan Black if you have not already watched the series and then things get a little thirsty. The episode closes with a spoiler segment.  Fear not - you will have lots of warning if you want to avoid them until you watch the series.  Be sure to follow Maddie on Twitter, IG, and Twitch.  You can give this pod a follow as well on IG and Twitter.  Longer feedback can be sent to us at morewinepod@gmail.com.As always, we love you for listening!  Did you like this episode of the The Pilot Project series?  Be sure to check out our prior episodes on Manifest, The Walking Dead, Teen Wolf, and The Sopranos.  And check out our previous episodes on iconic shows like Pose, Bob's Burgers, Loki, and Black Ass Falcon and The Winter Soldier.  Into films?  We've got you covered.  Check out our past episodes on Black Widow, Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Suicide Squad, and The Thor-Verse.Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, and we use adult language.  Until next time!Support the show (https://ko-fi.com/morewinepod)

The acclaimed television series Orphan Black explores the ethics and implications of transhumanism, cloning, life extension, cybernetic enhancements, gene therapy, and more. Much of the development of these themes was guided by science consultant Cosima Herter, so Ryan O'Shea sat down with her for a behind the scenes look at science of Orphan Black. Even if you're not in #CloneClub, you'll get a lot from this episode! Cosima has an advanced degree in the history and philosophy of science, and has pursued a PhD in the history of biology. She uses her academic background to bring a level of authenticity to science fiction, and she was instrumental to the creation and production of Orphan Black. There are spoilers in this episode. However, you don't necessarily need to know the show to enjoy this conversation. The show is simply a lens through which we discuss topics of emerging science and technology. Hey listeners! Just FYI there won't be an Orphan Black episode next week due to a scheduling conflict, so soak up this one and enjoy it until we return the following week! This episode we get to see the first-ever footage of someone attempting to remove a maggot-bot, and it's the worst thing ever. Like, so bad. The kind of thing that wouldn't even occur to me if I were trying to invent something terrible, because it's just crossing some kind of mental line for me. Nope. I hate it. I hate it so much. And I hate it all the more because surprise surprise, it turns out that Sarah has one implanted in her cheek. NOOOOOOO I HATE IT. Also, there's a much less dramatic but no less upsetting thing happening with Fe. We've been used to him being there every time anything has needed doing, and this episode really points out how much Sarah and the audience have taken it for granted that he will always be there when she needs him. Turns out, finding out that she's actually related to Siobhan has fucked him up a bit, and spurred him to look up who his birth family are. On top of that, there's finally resentment bubbling to the surface, and he's taking a step back from the whole mess of Clone Club. Can't say as I blame him. Thanks again to all of you for listening, and see you in 2 weeks!

*** I UPLOADED THIS LAST WEEK, BUT DID IT WRONG, SO, WHOOPS (Brett, Aug 26th, 2017) *** Hi there! This week, I'll salute "Orphan Black", which wrapped up its five-season run last weekend in glorious fashion. Tatiana Maslany, from Regina, has done unbelievable work in portraying countless characters on the groundbreaking Canadian show, and is well-deserving of her Emmy win last year. Hopefully she wins again this year. Also, Jeff examines the month of August 2017 at the movies, which so far has been exceptionally MEH.

At last -- a new episode of the OrphanCast Podcast is ready for your listening pleasure, #CloneClub. We thought "The Antisocialism of Sex" deserved many birthday cupcakes! Our recap of episode seven of season four of Orphan Black offered few happy endings for our crew. Cosima is busy moping over Kendall and Delphine -- in between research -- and growing her plants. Sarah lets loose in ways that only she seems to be able to carry off with poise. What’s Dizzy's motivation for being around Sarah? When Dizzy seems like the sane one, you’re in trouble. It was great to see a guest cameo by the fabulous Peaches. Felix is trying to protect multiple Leda clones at one. We discovered that Rachel is funny when she insults "brother" Ira. Wonder how Donnie will do in jail. Well, #CloneClub this recap of episode six of season four of Orphan Black -- called "The Scandal of Altruism" -- offered few happy endings for our crew. It's a race against time for Cosima as she raises doubts of ever being able to find a cure in time to save her from whatever illness is plaguing her. Sarah acts in an incredibly impulsive way that puts Kendall in direct danger -- as well as all of the Leda clones. What's her deal? Art and Felix are doing Donnie's work by making sure they do whatever they can to protect Krystal Goderitch. Did we finally learn the fate of Delphine? On thing we definitely discovered: Ira (Ari Millen) is a Libra, which makes total sense if you think about it. Please subscribe to the “OrphanCast” feed for more and please feel rate and review the podcast so we show up in those pesky search results, which tend to be driven by exceedingly opaque discovery algorithms, crude as Kendall's sense of humor. What did you think of "From Instinct to Rational Control" — episode 4 of season 4 of Orphan Black? We definitely encountered a lot of revelations with clones and characters, old and new. Still haven't figured out who Dizzy really "izzy" (pun intended). Alison continues to be a driving force in uncovering answers to all our questions. She also has a great singing voice. Poor Helena baffles us with some of her choices, but we love her anyway. Ferdinand is the kind of villain who is hard to despise, though M.K. might see that differently. Please subscribe to the “OrphanCast” feed for more and please feel free to rate and review the podcast so we show up in those rigged search results.
