EX05 - Anysley Lister UK's hottest contemporary blues guitarist with two songs, Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) and Free In this episode of the Add To My Playlist Podcast we feature Aynsley Lister. Aynsley Lister is one of the UK's hottest contemporary blues guitarists – many consider him to be among the best in the world. His unique brand of blues-based rock delivers contemporary songwriting fueled with the kind of heart and soul that's missing from so much modern music. Whether passionately writing and recording his own material or mesmerizing audiences at his live shows, one thing is abundantly clear: music is hard-wired to his DNA and flows from his fingertips like sonic bolts of lightning. With over 100,000 albums sold, lashings of critical acclaim and years of high profile touring, Lister's resumé speaks for itself and firmly secures his position as a leading light in the resurgence of British blues-infused music. Lister started playing guitar at 8 and played his first concert in a bar band at the age of 13. He had learned guitar by playing along to his father's old 45s of Freddie King, John Mayall and Eric Clapton. By the time he was 18, having already been in several bands, he formed his own, which recorded two albums - Messin' With The Kid (1996) and Pay Attention! (1997). “Music is a release for me. When I play I get lost in it and it's a very happy place to be” - Aynsley Lister Aynsley Lister - Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) As a fender strat guitar player, I really enjoyed Aynsley's version of Prince's Purple Rain - Spotify suggested it to me awhile back and i fell in love with his version! The story of how a policeman became instrumental in setting up a Cornish dance group is fantastic. The TR14-ers, named by its young members, are based in Cambourne in Cornwall (a.k.a TR14) and was set up in 2005 by David Aynsley our guest this week. David's core of compassion, and his understanding of how communities can be nurtured led him to sign his Neighbourhood Police Team up to the first ever Connecting Communities programme run by our former guest Hazel Stuteley, and the rest is history. It is an extraordinary story that shows what policing can do. The TR14-ers are now a self-run charity, the lessons are free, the young dancers self-organise and lead the dance sessions. This conversation is full of stories that show how you can feed what is good in a community that to many looks like there is nothing, how you can be a supportive police force, how amazing and hard that is, but mostly how worth it it is. Roy L Hales/ Cortes Currents - Team Awesome served more than 200 people at this year's free Christmas Dinner Take-out on Cortes Island. That's 50% less than last year. Given the sub zero temperatures and slippery snow covered roads, the organizers were surprised that so many showed up. In the thank-you, which Noah Davison and Izabelle Perry posted in the Tideline, “We were so touched by all the neighbours and friends that helped each other pick up and deliver meals. It was such a heartwarming and joyful sight to see!” The Christmas day take-out was primarily financed by Whaletown Community Club, through a BC Community Gaming Grant, but the special touches are only possible because of donations of time, food and money from members of the community. The long thank-you list includes: Billie, Dova, Peter Jackel, Lovena and Ryan Harvey for peeling carrots and potatoes; De Clarke for the turkey deboning marathon Kelly for picking 250 beautiful sprigs of rosemary. Amanda and her family for baking and decorating 405 cookies Wayne Cruickshanks for stepping in and doing SO many dishes! Shiva for decorating all the desert bags, help with dishes and setting up the distribution station in Whaletown. Becky and Scoot Knutsen for donating 50 lbs of potatoes. Jim Kearney for helping with the delivery and dispensing of meals in Mansons Landing Wayne Roberts for helping with traffic and meal distribution at the Manson's Hall. Davidson and Perry also thanked all their suppliers: Bill and Tammy, Aynsley, Abi, Joel and all the Gorge Store staff (also the Floathouse Restaurant) Johnny and the Mainroad crew for plowing the Hall parking lots and road Sara of Wildflower Produce at Reef Point Farm for the delicious, local produce. Farhad of Fungisle for the locally grown king oyster and lion's mane mushrooms for our veg stuffing. “We would call it a success mostly because we learned from our mistakes last year. And also because we were able to get help from a few volunteers this year at went a lot smoother. We also didn't have to spend a day and a half peeling potatoes because we had people helping us,” Perry told Cortes Currents. “Last year was quite the endeavour. We had more food to prep and we didn't accept any volunteer help because of our plan to have only one household preparing the whole meal.” In addition to accepting to more volunteer help, this Christmas Team Awesome opted to serve meals cold - which eliminated the stress of trying to get them into people's hands while still hot. “This year, we were ready ahead of time and the delivery time was a lot shorter, which meant that there was no traffic jam. Also we benefited from dividing up the pickup locations this year: one at Madisons Hall and one at Gorge Hall,” said Perry. In the Tideline, she wrote: “An enormous thank you goes out to Bernice (McGowan) and Howie (Roman) for answering my phone call on Christmas Day! Thank you to Sean (Coyote) for going to collect the Hall keys and saving Christmas Dinner distribution in Whaletown. It's a minor oversight to let Noah drive away to Manson's with all the keys and lock us out of the Gorge Hall.” Returning home after it was all over, she and Noah found an anonymous thank-you hanging from their back gate - a bottle of wine.

The Mash Movement: Movement, Awareness, Service and Health, Bringing Awareness and Hope to Muscular Dystrophy with Kasha Mitton and Maggie Aynsley   Episode 20: Show Notes.   Their love for movement, combined with the introduction of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) into their lives, and their desire to create meaningful change, drove two best friends to found The Mash Movement. Although Kasha Mitton's son's diagnosis of DMD is painfully challenging, she and Maggie Aynsley choose to live in hope and optimism in the face of this tragedy. In Canada, little is known about DMD, and there are no approved treatments. The Mash Movement raises awareness around this rare neuromuscular disorder through storytelling and movement - not only movement in the physical sense, but in the emotional realm too. Their goal is to be there for people who are suffering all kinds of hardships, and their adopted mantra is “start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” Their passion for their cause and gratitude for each other is inspiring, as you will hear today. Make sure you have a box of tissues nearby for this equally heartbreaking and heartwarming episode.    Key Points From This Episode:   “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can” - Arthur Ash. Maggie and Kasha introduce themselves and what they are hoping to achieve with The Mash Movement. The meaning behind the Greek symbol which can be found in their logo. Factors which led to the founding of The Mash Movement, slightly over a year ago. Their biggest accomplishment so far: 25 days of Live in the Movement. In this episode, Gareth chats with established touring artist Aynsley Lister. Having toured extensively for 22 years, Aynsley is built up a highly respectable following, particularly across the continent, with an impressive album catalogue and, in normal circumstances, a very full show diary! Aynsley and Gareth discuss, among other things, how the loyal and growing fanbase have kept him going all these years, how you grow as an artist and change with each new album release, his beginnings as a young blues-rock singer-songwriter, the double threat of Covid-19 and Brexit for touring performers, the enjoyment he's gained recently from working as a writer and session musician outside of his own music, and much more. The songs chosen for this episode are 'Straight Talkin' Woman', and 'Broke', both from Aynsley's 2013 release 'Home', as well as Ffion Rebecca's 'Love Again' in which Aynsley accompanied her on guitar, released through the HQ Familia label earlier this year. Aynsley is a very well regarded and qualified certified financial transitionist,  who began her career as an investment specialist. She tells the story of reaching a point in her life where she wanted to make more of a difference for her female clients than just investing money for them. Particularly she wanted to help those who are at the point of a "Life Transition", be that through death or divorce from their partner. As such she undertook additional study to become a certified financial transitionist.  She tells stories of the fear, doubt and identity crisis that most of her clients experience from going through these life events. During these times she talks about the value of having a "Decision Free Zone" where one writes down all the concerns that the mind has made up, and then triaging these into 3 buckets of now, soon and latter lists. This process brings her clients much relief. She then supports her clients to get their affairs well organised and make important decisions about their life, and money. This is a must listen podcast for any lady who might be about to, or is going through the difficult experience of death or divorce.

The Case: Jen is 34 with the hopes of getting pregnant but her menstrual cycle was very irregular She was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) The doctors and gynecologists recommended birth control pills but they left her feeling moody and depressed. Plus, it wasn’t going to help her get pregnant! We had to find a way to regulate her period, optimize her fertility and the first clue was in understanding  the cause of her PCOS. The Investigation Birth control pills are a common solution for irregular periods caused by PCOS but they are not the only solution. And, they are certainly not the right choice for someone who suffers bad side effects or who is wanting to improve fertility. According to the National Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association, PCOS affects up to 15% of women and is the leading cause of infertility. Which is why it’s often a catchall diagnosis. I knew I had to dig a little deeper into Jen’s case if we were going to overcome her PCOS symptoms, improve menstrual cycle regularity, and increase fertility. I connected with clinical nutritionist, personal trainer and creator of The Sugarpurge, Aynsley Kirshenbaum. That may seem like an interesting place to start digging but as you’ll discover in this episode everything is connected. Plus, Aynsley is speaking from personal experience. We discuss how important it is to look at everything that is going on in the body to assist the body in resetting. That includes looking at diagnostic criteria that is beyond the typical tests done for PCOS. The most important is the hormone panel, which we discuss at length in this episode. Our Endocrine System and Hormone System Work in Concert Aynsley and I discuss just how intricately the bodies systems work together. If one thing is out of whack, it can affect all of the other things. And, conversely, if you can control one system or create change in just one area, then that will affect other systems too. Sugar is Everything Aynsley and I also discussed why it’s so important to test the Hemoglobin A1c to determine insulin sensitivity levels. This was one of the key clues in Jen’s case. As was a shift in her overall diet. What does a PCOS diet look like? We break it down and look at some possible connections between gluten and PCOS (although more research is needed). Don’t Ignore Stress And finally, we dive into the role that stress can play in PCOS as well as the presentation of symptoms of PCOS. All of these changes are not an overnight magic bullet. The resetting of systems (not to mention them having an affect on other systems) takes time. Expect for it to take at least 3 - 6 months. When it comes to missing periods caused by PCOS, birth control is not the only answer. In the case of Jen. Within a year, her cycle was back to normal and she was able to conceive a child. All without having to take medication that made her unhappy and feeling unlike herself. She now has a beautiful baby and continues to be in control of her PCOS symptoms. Mystery Solved For Jen, we were able to find that missing piece of the health puzzle and help her regain her health. Could diet, blood sugar, stress reduction, and hormone balancing be the missing clues for you or someone in your life dealing with irregular periods, PCOS, or infertility? Share this information and demand answers. Your health does not need to remain a mystery. Resources: Thanks to my guest Aynsley Kirshenbaum. What are the major challenges facing men and boys today? One challenge is the narrative that says, "Look perfect and put together, even if you're not." The end result is lots of men, and boys trying to become men, who don't have it all together, but are driven into isolated silence. This is neither sustainable, nor even human. This narrative hurts men, and ultimately hurts the women in their lives too. Aynsley Silva has build a practice almost exclusively on working with men. In this conversation, he and Rhys and Josh talk about the fusion of trauma, anger, unrealistic expectations, and toxic family systems. Listen along for insights and ideas on how to work with families, and especially with the angry boys. Hi everyone! Maggie and I are here to talk about an episode of Orphan Black that feels bizarrely out of place at this point in the show, and frankly was full of moments that I could have done without. The main focus on this episode is Alison, who for some reason is only now starting to deal with the guilt from watching her friend die and doing nothing to help. Now, don't get me wrong, I have no problem with Alison having a lot of guilt and regret surrounding that. In fact, she'd better, or else I'm asking myself what kind of psychopath she is. But let's be honest, how often do we as viewers even think about this anymore? That shit happened way back in the first season, we didn't know Aynsley that well, and the two of them really didn't seem to have a good relationship at all. There was no sense of loss when it happened beyond the horror of Alison realizing she'd let an innocent person die and that Donnie is the real monitor. So other than the confession at rehab, this whole thing is sort of shunted off to the side, Alison barely seems to think about it, and then suddenly there's a bunch of flashbacks about how close they were and how much guilt Alison is feeling, and I'm supposed to buy that? Nah, son.
