We are playing Last train to Bremen by Caro Asercion. "Thirteen years ago, four struggling musicians made a deal with the Devil. What were they chasing? Fame, riches, adoration. Your classic Devil fare. What happened next? Well, you know the way these stories go: the damned fools got it in their head to try and outrun their end of the bargain.See, the Devil is coming to collect his due, and he doesn't take kindly to those who can't cough up. Which brings this story to the four of us here, now, huddled in the back of a freight car on a train hurtling to the one place the Devil will never catch us. One final, desperate shot at immortality. And if we're lucky? By the end of the night, one of us will still be left alive to tell the tale."You can find Last train to Bremen here: https://seaexcursion.itch.io/bremenIn this episode, we relive:The time the band performed at a celebrity birthdayThe time Cat and Hound first metThe time Hound lost her mojoThe time Hound got offered another gigThe time Cockerel started a fight at the bar...And we lose our first band-mate.Plus: Sue has a top that should be in an art gallery.Black Armada DiscordWe would like to invite our listeners to join the Black Armada discord, where you can hang out with the podcast crew. MPF Discussion with Alan RhodeBuilding Success Through Setbacks with Alan RhodeAbout AlanAlan was born in Genoa, a chilled out town on the north-west coast of Italy. He spent many years working as a lawyer in the more hectic Milan, before moving to London in 2015. After three failed e-commerce start-ups Alan founded tax and legal consultancy, Taxmen, which as it flourished allowed him time to write. Although Alan did not embark on writing his book until his 40s, he reminds himself he is in good company with very established authors such as Umberto Eco, Isabella Allende and William Golding also starting later in life. Alan is an accomplished speaker who regularly presents and delivers workshops. When he has a spare moment, which is rare, between running his business, writing and spending time with his young family, Alan enjoys watching vintage movies and playing tennis. He juggles a lot but manages it without stress. The word ‘stress' does not belong in Alan's living dictionary as he considers life to be too precious. Alan is currently working on his second book after the completion of his first book, The Eagle and the Cockerel. From lawyer to entrepreneur to published author, Alan Rhode's career path is anything but linear. On this episode of My Perfect Failure, Alan explains why he sees setbacks as crucial steps toward growth. He opens up about his transition from law, the lessons he learned as a rookie entrepreneur, and why ambition always trumps fear for him. Alan's belief that “you have to be brave to inspire” rings through his journey. Tune in to hear how he built his company Taxmen and carved out time to write The Eagle and the Cockerel — and why he's determined to live a life full of diverse experiences and passions.Key Insights:•How ambition outshines the fear of failure.•We discuss Alan's book “The Eagle and the Cockerel.”•The value of starting late and pursuing big dreams.•How setbacks shape a resilient, adaptable mindset.•The power of daydreaming and creating multiple passions.•Strategies to turn lessons learned into lasting success.Social Links to AlanAlan's website: http://alan-rhode.com/Order your copy of: The Eagle and the Cockerel: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eagle-Cockerel-thrilling-political-treachery/dp/1916797415/ref=pd_ci_mcx_mh_mcx_views_0_image?pd_rd_w Subscribe to Alan's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ALANRHODE-gl8vd Please Leave A ReviewLike this show? Naším hostem je textilní výtvarnice a módní návrhářka Lenka Kohoutová, která stojí za značkou Cockerel. Značka Cockerel byla založena na podzim roku 2011, jako osobní projekt návrhářky Lenky Kohoutové. Odstartovala expozicí v Centru současného umění DOX v Praze, kde prezentovala kolekci pánských a dámských ručně pletených svetrů a doplňků reagujících na silné tendence současného českého skla a porcelánu. Alan Rhode is a busy man. Working as a lawyer, with a full family, he's recently self-published his first novel. It's called 'The Eagle and the Cockerel', and was shortlisted for a 2024 Selfie Award. We discuss why Alan was so keen to become a published author, and he is very open about his reasons for wanting to be a novel, and what his ambitions are in the next few years. You can hear why concentration is subjective, why nature helps his writing, and why writing in a second language can make things tricky and a bit slow.'The Eagle and the Cockerel' is a political thriller based on a true story, of a plan to unite Germany and France after WWI, and create a new European superpower. We discuss the birth of the idea, how it grew, and what inspired him in the political thriller genre. This episode is sponsored by Faber Academy. Their flagship, 'Writing a Novel' course, is starting in October in person or remotely, and you can find out more at faberacademy.com/writing-a-novelSupport the show at patreon.com/writersroutine@writerspodwritersroutine.com Hosted on Acast. Now you might think we've lost it (and it's possible) but this week we're cueing up something really special for you all! The next few weeks are going to focus on one of the most common things Ellie and Sam hear when coaching... 'Why am I so f*cked up', 'I'm never gonna figure this out' (or words to that effect), and what better way to do that than a story about a cockerel? Intrigued? You should be!
