This podcast is being released as part of our content take-over week, to access more visit: Digital Transformation Week.  The positive impact of digital transformation on charities is unmistakable. Throughout the sector, you can find so many examples of best practices, learnings and success stories. But we rarely address the challenges that get charities to this point. Whilst a positive mindset is always important, we can't forget that digital progress is built off the challenges we've had to overcome... so we need to talk about what these are! Whilst digital changes are amazing, they aren't always easy. They require bravery. The transformation journey to get your charity to a point of digital success is just as important as the success itself. As a sector, we need to foster working in the open...so others can learn from the challenges of peers and like-minded organisations. By sharing stories of our own digital transformation challenges, we can help make those of other charities smoother.   That's why we've bought together a selection of charity speakers, each willing to share the challenges they face on their ongoing digital transformation journeys. Chris Hall, Head of Marketing at Charity Digital, is joined by Sorcha Dallas, Custodian at the Alasdair Gray Archive; Janine Woodward-Grant, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Carers' Centre Bath and North East Somerset; and Dave Grant, Head of Products Charities at Torchbox. In the episode, we discuss each speaker's experience, what they would do differently looking back, the role of charity leaders in transformation, the risks involved, and so much more. We also talk about why the sector is so reticent to discuss the fears and challenges involved in digital transformation, as well as the necessity of a digital culture shift.

Is A Statement Of Work The "Same Page" Government Officials and Contractors Need To Get On?

I See What You Mean

The government's solicitation is its best attempt to define a problem. A contractor's proposal is its best attempt to define a solution. When faithfully executed, both should combine to meet a mission requirement. But can they? Contracts of even moderate complexity can obligate contractors to meet scores of requirements performed in dozens of activities over a 1 to 5 year period. Issues, priorities, budgets, personnel and conditions will change. So how can executing a statement of work written 12-18 months before work even began, meet a mission requirement? Greg Giddens says the answer is performance management. Not in the HR sense but as a broad framework for conversation about how contract acquisition, program management and change management work together - or don't - to meet the intent of a statement of work. To meet the business objective or, in government terms, the mission requirement of the contract. Greg and his business partner at Potomac Ridge Consulting, Dave Grant, should know. After careers in project and program management, change management and procurement in multiple Federal government cabinet departments, they know what works and what doesn't to get government and contracting officials on the same page. Greg joins me for this episode, and here are some of my favorite aah-ha! moments: 7:36 - Federal contracting is conceived as a partnership with the private sector 10:50 - Federal contracts, marriage contracts, and the meaning of relationship 11:45 - Using performance management from Step One - the contract kickoff 21:29 - When buying a microwave isn't what you think, or how changing the conversation changed a contracting officer's understanding of the problem 29:17 - Performance management creates transparency 40:05 - Performance management lines up means and ends to the desired outcome 47:43 - How changing the conversation creates a same page from multiple "own pages" 54:00 - But what if it doesn't work? What do we do if we can't get on the same page?

Dave shares how he accidentally found himself in the world of financial planning and how he overcame various obstacles that led him to create his company. Dave begins this episode by sharing with listeners how his services started out heavily geared toward Illinois based teachers and slowly grew his clientele with a focus on retirement planning. Dave states, “I rebranded and then became more of a retirement income specialist. And then three years after that, this is where we sit today.” Chip describes a recent article written by Dave where he details how at 37 years old, he is considered semi-retired. Dave clarifies that while he is still heavily involved with his clients, he has been able to tailor his business around his life, and not the other way around. “I was really trying to understand, how do I want to build a practice that supports my life versus building a job?” Dave continues to explain why he hasn’t taken on more clients and how some financial advisors question his decision. “Some of them are like, you're crazy. Why would you not want to earn more money? Like, well, that's you, that’s fine. If you want to earn more money, that's great. Just realizing what you may be giving up for it.” Dave points out, “it's more important to have the time than the dollars.” Chip and Dave end the segment by discussing the importance of advisors being able to identify their weaknesses. Dave closes by encouraging listeners, “You got to focus on your weaknesses, that is going to help you grow in the future.” The goal of this show is to develop a community of advisors who are focused on being better advisors, better business owners, and better people. Welcome to another episode of the N+1 Lowlands Cycling podcast. We are your hosts Geoff and Gerry. Today we talk with Dave Grant a top level cyclist who traveled to the Netherlands in the early 90's to live and race his bike over there. Of course we are very interested in how he ended up in the Netherlands, how it was racing  for the Sauna Diana team and what he's up to nowadays racing Road, Track, Cyclocross, and Mountain Bike, and how he will never do a Zwift race. Dave also discusses how training has changed under Covid 19, what new technology he's really excited about, and what his goals will be once the racing season returns. The Sauna Diana team was the very first team who actually had a coach-bus (English Doubledecker bus) for their riders.  After the double decker bus they acquired a coach bus which the lent to the TVM pro cycling team during the Tour de France. In those days the pro team didn't have the luxurious coach busses they have today, and the riders had to get changed sitting in the back of the team car.https://www.activeyards.com/https://www.road-results.com/team/35651https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/https://www.lowlandscycling.comhttps://cyclinginflanders.cc/bucket-lists Cyclo Sportive's in Belgiumhttps://youtu.be/5osKi5Z184I The Move - Best of Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Dave Grant returns for another episode… or two? Dave is one of my good friends and founder of Retirement Matters. One of the things I most appreciate about Dave is his willingness to open up and share all sides of his experience as an RIA owner.  Today we’ll dive into his backstory and “the numbers” so I hope you enjoy the episode. We had a really good discussion and had to break it into two episodes. There was so much good stuff that we didn’t want to leave anything out. If “ownership” is something you’ve grown tired of or it’s something you’re tired of wanting… don’t miss this episode! “I was very much on cloud nine at that point and it gradually got down to cloud three and cloud minus nine. It did not stay up there. Client acquisition was hard. I was still trying to get my foot in the door of this niche…. I knew the market was there and I knew they needed help.”   The First Year: The Diary of a New RIA Owner FPA NexGen NAPFA Genesis Our previous episode with Dave: Episode 9 – Listener Letter “Feeling Stuck”

Today we're talking about some topics that don't often get discussed in the financial planning space: how your mental health and business are related, and what happens when you struggle with them both. Dave Grant, now the head of Retirement Matters, shares his journey as a financial planner and entrepreneur, and opens up about his recent experience with depression. Dave Grant is an internationally known planner from the Chicago-land area and in this episode he helps us to respond to an e-mail from Kristen, a financial advisor and listener.  She shared with us her story and struggles with feeling lost in the industry. I know there are far more people in financial planning that can relate to her, and her questions, than we might think.  This is a hard profession to break into, but it is worth it. Thank you, Kristen, for the e-mail.  I hope you know that you are not alone and that you find your place in the profession. “In our day and age.. you see everyone’s good parts. You don’t see the struggle that people have gone through.”   “The dark side of becoming an RIA owner” Finance for Teachers Finance for Teachers Network Fox Financial Planning Network

Dan and Scott interview Dave Grant, a Certified Financial Planner who specializes in working with teachers. Dave grew up in England and came to the United States because of a girl — a teacher — who is now his wife. Dave talks about his business model, working with teachers, and a new financial initiative he just launched called: The Finance for Teachers Network (FFTN). The goal of the network is to bring educator-focused financial advisors from across the United States into one place to learn best practices from each other, understand how to further their skills in working with K-12 and college educators, and get coaching in how to serve more educators than they currently are.  Beer Dan drinks a Bosque Lager from Bosque Brewing of Albuquerque, NM.; Scott drinks an Arrogant Bastard Ale from Stone Brewing of San Diego, CA.
