For the past several months, Kathleen Ganley, Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse, Sarah Hoffman and Naheed Nenshi have been battling it out to see who will replace Rachel Notley as leader of Alberta's NDP. Each leadership candidate faced an entrance fee of $60,000 and a spending limit of $500,000. Initially, David Shepherd registered his candidacy early, but did not pursue it further. Rakhi Pancholi also announced her candidacy early, but withdrew from the leadership race shortly after Naheed Nenshi entered the race. She then endorsed Nenshi. Gil McGowan also announced his candidacy later in the campaign, but withdrew for financial reasons. Our speaker will elaborate on the leadership campaign and speculate on the influence, power and support from within, the new Alberta NDP leader will be able to muster. Paris is Full Professor of Software Engineering at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. We talk about peer review, journal editing, and scientific writing. Paris Avgeriou : "I actually think that authoring and reviewing are very close to one another, because when you review a paper, you actually start thinking how to improve it — what the strong points are and also what the points for improvement are. So, by getting into this sort of mentality — that is, by noticing what is wrong with the paper and how to make it better — this makes you a better author, because when you review other people's work, you start to understand what makes a paper strong and what needs revising to make it stronger. And so, when someone who reviews regularly goes to write their own papers, they automatically start thinking about these things. So, in fact, reviewing other people's work makes you a better author yourself." Links Journal of Systems and Software The New Reddit Journal of Science Learn more about your ad choices. The David Alliance   TDAgiantslayer@Gmail.com    It would be hard for you to impress me… whoa whoa whoa… hold on - not for any reason you may think… in fact thats the point… if you want to impress me, its probably by something most of the world over looks.   If you have been following the podcast for any period of time, or even maybe from the beginning you realize that this podcast was based on research I did over the course of a few months and the three things I found out about men..  - Men are incredibly lonely  - Men only change when there is trauma  - Masculinity is in short supply due to the lack of fathers in the last 60 years.   It is the perfect recipe for disaster… men don't have fathers to turn to… they have not been taught how to have deep meaningful relationships with other men BECAUSE they have not had a Dad -role model this for them, they have become emasculated by the media and overbearing women AND…. they can't change without major catastrophic trauma… and even then they most of the times choose not to change. Again this is why I have said to men for years… you choose your trauma while you can, or it will choose you. It seems almost too late to do anything about it… but again there is God!  David Shepherd boy, warrior, King… was a forgotten son. He was the youngest of seven brothers… his father was not a good father… and in fact when studying the story you might say Davids father was almost completely absent from his life. He had no close relationships growing up as evident by his brothers response when he came to battle.. so what did David do in order to become an amazing Manly man… yes a poor husband… but still a man used by God.   Well David had time on his hands watching those sheep. What did he do in that time alone? Here is the stripped down bare bones outline slash work out for being a man.  He journaled, he prayed, he worshiped and he challenged himself by taking on bears and lions and he took on his meaningless job with purpose and focus as if serving God himself.  I will state this again… he journaled, he prayed, he worshiped, he challenged himself (Bears and Lions is definitely choosing your own trauma) and he worked a meaningless job as if God depended on it. And he became a man… what would have happened if he had not done that and stood in front of Goliath… Im not sure, but I think it would have been ugly. No great plan, no great science behind it… just daily disciplines and all for a God he knew. Consistency was the factor that made it happen, it was what God noticed you might say… so you sit here and you listen to the podcast and you think Im not going anywhere special, and Im not anyone special, I have no great annointing, I am not the first name that someone would mention is a Mans man or a man of God… - but what you may have, what I hope you have is consistency… consistency in what matters. Reading, praying, obeying and choosing your own trauma… 1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” God is telling Samuel “hey you see all the dudes on instagram, tik tok, facebook, twitter and the like… the ones with the sweet ride, stacks of cash, 6 pack abs, hot flashy women, guitar wizards, rock stars, or even those with the big flashy ministry and churches, seemingly great marriage… God says I don't look at that. I look at the heart… is the heart consistently going after me. God is saying I am more impressed by the guy who seeks me, loves me and consistently chooses my way over any other guy out there that might grab the worlds attention.  What impresses you? I bet it doesn't impress God… and maybe what impresses God doesn't impress you.

Highlights from Talking History

In this episode of Talking History, we're looking at the life, legend and legacy of King David and we'll be finding out how the boy who killed Goliath became one of the most important figures in the Bible and an inspiration to later generations. Joining Patrick Geoghegan to discuss this is:Dr David Shepherd, Professor in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, Trinity College Senior Lecturer and Director, Trinity Centre for Biblical Studies; Dr Tobias Winright, Professor of Moral Theology, St. Patrick's Pontifical University, Maynooth University; Dr. Bridget Martin, Teaching Fellow, School of Classics, UCD; and Prof Ruth Karras, Lecky Professor Of History at TCD, whose current research focuses on King David as a figure of masculinity in medieval Christian and Jewish culture, drawing on a variety of sources from across Europe.

Episode 139 - The Power NLP 2.0 and Hawaiian Huna with David Shephard   Make It Happen with Will Polston is a weekly podcast that consists of a combination of episodes with Mindset Strategist Will Polston and episodes with Will's guests from around the world providing you with insights on how you can transform your excuses into results to benefit yourself, your family, your friends, your community, society, humanity and the universe, what he calls - The Ripple Effect.   For almost 30 years, David Shepherd has been empowering people to make significant changes in their own lives, with his biggest focus being on helping get people the results they want fast.   As the founder and owner of one of the world's leading NLP, NLP Coaching, Time Line Therapy®, Hypnosis and Huna coaching companies, he's helped thousands of people improve their career, health and relationships. Our mission statement is simple, “to make the seemingly impossible, possible” – and his clients experience just that.   Coming from an engineering background, David's mission has been to precisely distil the science and application of NLP, Time Line Therapy, Hypnosis and other powerful mental technologies into a “business in a box”. He was fortunate enough to be mentored for almost a decade by some of the most respected individuals in the empowerment world.   As opposed to many other trainers, who teach the theory without the benefits of having experienced it in action themselves, David's trainings go beyond simply equipping people with the knowledge of what to do. His experience of using these technologies in action with people from all walks of life in many countries over many years allows him to provide people with both the experience and confidence to make their sessions work, regardless of what happens in the room.   In this episode, Will has David as his guest and they talk about:   What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and NLP 2.0? How he started on NLP and his journey as a practitioner How to get rid of your limiting beliefs using ‘Timeline Therapy' What is Hawaiian ‘Huna'? The relationship between NLP and Hawaiian ‘Huna'   Join David's free Facebook group to learn more about NLP 2.0, Huna and avail his free masterclass here.   To avail David's NLP class at home, click here.   To find more about David and his teachings, click here.   Join the free Make It Happen Community Facebook group by clicking here.   Take the 5-Minute Quiz that Reveals What's Preventing You from Living a Purposeful, Inspired and Energised Life You Love by clicking here.

Based on his examination and analysis of 100s of successful interior design practices (small and large) David Shepherd has identified a single "magic number" that can predict success...or trouble! This number will never be presented by your CPA or bookkeeper, nor can it be found in financial statements or reports. To calculate it, you'll need a P&L Statement...and a pencil and a Post-it-Note. Once this simple step is complete, you'll also be able to calculate your breakeven point which will enable you to not only "right-size" your firm, but plan for any level of profit your heart desires!

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, up to 70 million people have been affected by digestive issues, which resulted in over 50 million visits to physicians and hospitals, in 2016 alone. What many of us don't know is that these issues, whether it's occasional bloating, gas, or problems with irregularity, maybe your body's warning signs to make positive changes for your long-term health. Subsequently, the problem is that too often people resort to laxatives and quick fix measures to aid in their problems without adequately getting to the root cause of the situation. And as symptoms reappear, people increase their consumption of over the counter digestive aids, potentially making the problem worse. The good news is that NeoLife addresses the underlying issue within the digestive tract, not just the symptoms. Dial in to hear NeoLife Scientific Advisory Board member, Dr. David Shepherd share the science behind NeoLife nutritionals that can ease occasional digestive discomfort, and support complete digestion to maximize nutrient absorption from food.
