Questions about how God could be perfect if he regrets something he did, whether there's a difference between God's sovereignty and God's providence, and what Nehemiah meant when he said God “put it into his heart” to do certain things.   Does Genesis 6:6 mean God made a mistake since it says he regretted that he had made humans? How could God be perfect if he regrets something he did? Is there a difference between God's sovereignty and God's providence? When Nehemiah says in 2:12 and 7:5 that God “put it into his heart” to do certain things, is this just another way of describing God's guidance?

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?”… 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14 The Lord God said to the serpent,“Because you have done this,     cursed are you above all livestock     and above all beasts of the field… 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman,     and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head,     and you shall bruise his heel.” 16 To the woman he said,“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;     in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband,     but he shall rule over you.” 17 And to Adam he said,“…cursed is the ground because of you;     in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;     and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face     you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground,     for out of it you were taken; for you are dust,     and to dust you shall return.” 20 The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them. 22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever--” 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.1.     Do you walk around thinking your life ought to work well? 462 - To Be Human - Part Thirteen: Dust to Dust. Today, on the Voxology Podcast, Mike and Tim further discuss the creation account in Genesis 1 and 2. They explore the themes of cosmic order, the role of humans as image bearers, and the significance of the Garden of Eden. They also examine the relationship between Genesis 1 and 2, arguing that Genesis 2 is a sequel to Genesis 1, focusing on the creation of the already existing land and the selection of Adam and Eve as representative priests. Mike and Tim highlight the theological implications of these accounts and challenge the idea of humans being created perfect and then falling, exploring the themes of sacred space, the creation of a mountain temple garden, the role of humanity, and the distortion of God's ideals in Genesis 2 and 3. Does Genesis 1 describe the creation of general humanity, distinct from Adam and Eve's creation in Genesis 2? What is the significance of land in the Old Testament and the presence of other beings opposing God's work in the world? As always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue. If things couldn't get more backward in California, here is another thing for that list.  Hector and Mike discuss that 18 California kids (under 18 years of age) are suing the Environmental Protection Agency, claiming that their “constitutional rights” were not protected because of the impact of climate change on their lives. https://www.npr.org/2023/12/11/1218499186/18-california-children-are-suing-the-epa-over-climate-change  A 17-year-old Long Beach resident called Genesis B (minor) says that with the increasingly extreme heat days, Genesis is unable to stay cool in her home during the day - "On many days, Genesis must wait until the evening to do schoolwork when temperatures cool down enough for her to be able to focus” It should be noted that Genesis' parent can't afford air conditioning.  What about going to the library or staying in school to finish the work? Does Genesis of these other 17 kids have a cell phone, sneakers, walk on roads, or use a mop or umbrella, play sports, or wear clothes? If they say yes, they are using petroleum-based products. Get rid of these petroleum-based items before filing a lawsuit.  Or is this another ploy to have the government agency settle out of court to help fund the environmental groups behind this lawsuit?  What about the pollution from importing oil from foreign countries? Should we sue those countries?  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hectorandmikeexperience/support

PT 2 Wendy's Words for HIM 31 followers Follow 20 Comments Share Embed 3 months ago 154 Aliens, Nephilim & Genesis Chapter 6. Does Genesis 6 Refer to Angel-Human Hybrids Like Aliens? PT 2 Some pastors and teachers explain alien phenomenon by not only pointing to demonic spirits & their activity, but they also suggest that these beings are a banished breed of hybrid humans, they believe are the Nephilim referred to in Genesis 6. Many churches that otherwise teach sound, biblical doctrine, accept this teaching that the unique and murky description of events in Gen 6 actually refer a time when fallen angels rebelliously "took wives" of human women, had sex with them, and the result was a hybrid race of giants, called Nephilim. And so this video is going to use clear Biblical evidence to dispel this dark doctrine. We will look at the context and description in Genesis 6, other patterns in the Bible, as well as other clear Bible verses. We will explore the question of whether “Sons of God” refers to fallen angels, and if the giants referred to in Genesis 6 (Nephilim in Hebrew), are the hybrid, immortal offspring of Fallen Angels and humans. Today we'll begin to consider interpretive options for the first chapter of Genesis. We'll see three main groupings of theories, including those that propose a young earth of only thousands of years, those that see the earth as old (billions of years), and those that are compatible with either. After introducing the main options, Will Barlow goes on to explore young-earth creationism. He presents the advantages and disadvantages of this approach. Lastly, he shows why the "appearance of age" hypothesis fails to convince him. Who is Sean Finnegan?  Read his bio here —— Notes —— What have we seen so far? Genesis was written to a group of ancient people coming out of slavery The questions that they were asking of the text are different than the questions that we ask How can we read Genesis 1? Does Genesis 1 begin with a continuous narrative or is there an initial creation in verse 1 followed by a “re-creation” or “reconstitution”? “Gap” theory says the latter Most other views take the former How can we read Genesis 1? How do we read the word day? Is a day a literal 24-hour period of time? Or is it something else? YEC and “gap” theory view the word “day” as a literal 24 hour period Most other views either don't require a day to be a specific length of time or say it is a longer period of time How can we read Genesis 1? Is Genesis 1 meant to be a description of creation itself? Or is it meant to describe how God ascribed function to already existing systems? “Modified gap” theory and Walton's “Temple” theory both focus on Genesis 1 describing function, not creation Most other views take Genesis 1 to be describing creation How can we read Genesis 1? How importantly should we weigh the scientific evidence? Walton's “Temple” theory does not care about modern science The mainline YEC view has an alternate view of the scientific evidence All other views rely on the scientific evidence Many views of Genesis 1 Perhaps the easiest way to divide them is: Young-earth views Old-earth views Views compatible with either Young-Earth Views Mainline YEC view - Answers in Genesis, Ken Ham, Institute for Creation Research (ICR) The “Appearance of Age” view Old-Earth Views “Day-Age” and modified “Day-Age”— Hugh Ross, Gerald Schroeder “Theistic Evolution” — Francis Collins Gap and modified gap — Scofield Bible Views Compatible with Either The “God's Temple” interpretation — John Walton Any non-literal interpretation that does not involve evolution Young-Earth Creationism Genesis 1:1-3   In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. Genesis 1:4-5   And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Positives of Young-Earth Creationism You can read Genesis 1 without importing any other ideas as a complete narrative Then, using the genealogies from other parts of the Bible, you get roughly 6,000 years of history Nothing in the Bible absolutely contradicts it Negatives of Young-Earth Creationism Some of the strongest arguments against YEC come from science. However: AIG and ICR have answers to basically any scientific question Both do a great job of attacking science at the weakest spot — assumptions and counterexamples Young-Earth Creationism Biblical questions about YEC: Would the original audience have cared about the age of the Earth? Are we sure that the genealogies are without gaps? Is Genesis 1 about creation or function? Is there really enough time for Satan to rebel (if you hold this view)? Scientific challenges to YEC: Basically all scientists view the Universe as old and the Earth as old Faraway stars appear to age the Universe at 13 billion years There is no reason to believe that the speed of light has changed over time Appearance of Age View This view accepts the scientific evidence and says that “God made the Universe appear old to test us.” I believe that God gave us our heads to think with. God does test us, but He is not a deceiver.

Behind The Curtain: Mysteries of the Past and Present with Josh and Ryan

In this episode, we break the ice on the topic of Genesis 6, the sons of God, and the nephilim. A mere eight verses - such a small portion of the Bible - may have one of the biggest secrets. Does Genesis 6 hold the key to explaining the existence of evil and corruption in the world? Could Jesus' mission to save humanity be connected to these events? To find out, we will have to examine Genesis 4 and 5 in its ancient context. There are some REALLY important debates about Genesis 1-3 and what they say about God's ideal for men and women and their relationships. Today I'm going DEEP on those issues. Here's a small sample of what we'll get into: Does Genesis 1 giving dominion over the Earth to women as well as men mean that egalitarians are right in their contention that no authority differences based on gender should exist? Does Genesis 2 have indications that before the fall, Adam had a leadership role in his relationship with Eve? Lots of debate on this issue! Does Genesis 3:16, which says the husband will rule over his wife, actually mean that he will have control of her sexual desires? Dr. Linda Belleville argues for this. Can we say that male leadership in a marriage is only the result of the fall, and we should therefore try to overturn it as much as possible just like we try to overturn other elements of the curse? Was Adam a sexless being until after Eve was made? Dr. Phyllis Trible thinks so. Does Adam show leadership of Eve by giving her a name? Why is Adam made before Eve? Why does Satan tempt Eve first? Why does Adam seem to bear greater responsibility and consequences for the fall? Was Eve meant to be Adam's "savior" and not his "helper"? Today's video will be longer than usual, but I'm going to plow through a ton of content and I think it will give you simple clarity at the end, so don't feel overwhelmed by all the issues and debates. I'm going to do my best to make it as clear as I can and help you walk away with solid understanding of the nature of men and women in the image of God and their relationship to each other, both before and after the fall. Darwin VS. Moses, The Origin Of Man VS. The Book of Genesis, Science VS. Faith. Most people seem to think that you've got to have one or the other. If one is right the other is wrong. As we've seen in Evan Minton's series on Genesis, this is not true regarding the first chapter of Genesis, but what about the second chapter? Does Genesis 2 present a view of human origins that is hopelessly at odds with what we know from biology, genetics, paleontology and anthropology? How can someone accept The Bible and science at the same time if the scientific evidence seems to favor a view of human origins The Bible contradicts? Should we reject science or should we reject The Bible? In this podcast episode, Mr. Minton's answer is: NEITHER! You neither have to deny the truth of Genesis 2 nor reject what science says. The two, when properly understood, are compatible. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/evan-minton/support

What are some core books you would suggest to supplement a read-through of the whole Bible? Since Genesis 5 begins with the line, "This is the book of the generations of Adam," might this chapter have once been its own book? Does Genesis 5 offer a third creation story, or perhaps an alternative continuation of the second creation account that ignores the Cain and Abel story? Are there more extrabiblical stories of Seth out there, similar to the various apocrypha and apocalypses centered around Adam? I s there is any etymological connection between the Biblical character of Seth and the Egyptian god Set? Could canonical Luke be later than John? Suggestions on numerological coded messages re Mary Magdalene, Jesus, David, etc. How common is the error of thinking that "Lord of Hosts" refers to communion wafers? Can you offer any insight into Stoicism and its presence in the Bible? Might the Parable of the Shrewd Manager be Gnostic meaning that "Even if you don't have the gnosis, at least go ahead with ecclesiastical Christianity, because that's better than nothing"? What's your interpretation of the story of David and Goliath? What is the proper pronunciation of erudite/erudition? Could you expand on your theory that Hegesippus is actually just Josephus? What do you think of theories that Josephusâ??s work was reworked or even commissioned by a cabal within the Flavian household and instrumental in the creation of Christianity?
